I will NEVER buy a vehicle from manufacturers who use the subscription model. That should be OUTLAWED. If I spend $65k for a car with navigation, I should be able to use it for the life of the car without having to pay a monthly fee. These days, it pays to ask if a car has any features that require a subscription. Corporate greed makes me sick.
The "Subscription Payment System" (like Leasing/Renting an Appartment Unit at a Section 8 Appartment Complex) is what the powers that (shouldn't) be wants to become the "International Standard" as it is part of their "You will own nothing and be happy, and eat ze bugz" New World Order agenda.
Tom Petty wrote a song that said, in part, "As we celebrate mediocrity, all the boys upstairs want to see......is how much you'll pay for what you used to get for free" (from the Last DJ album).
@legros731 I use Google maps exclusively anyways. But there are some companies making other features on a car a subscription service, other than navigation. It's disgusting and there is NO reason for it other than to extract even more money from consumers.
I have said that since I heard Gates and Schwab say it, as soon as they came up with that idea I looked at all the software and Hardware that they control everything is going to be theirs we are living in their world

Chrysler does the same thing. My Ford came with it. I paid for the car and it all worked. Chrysler wants $300/year. Of course the salesperson never said a word about it being a subscription thing. I didn't know Toyota does that. Thanks for the warning.
My Hyundai did that too. 200/year after the first year. I just do without the auto start. Makes me go and start the car and get more steps in myself lol there are other awesome options that come with that as well but I never used them. The anti theft is the best though with being able to turn off my vehicle from anywhere and have the police locate it with GPS. I like that but thank God live in a great neighborhood so not worried about theft.
I worked in OEM radio design and testing till about 2019, the people making these decisions are young and arrogant designers/salesmen at the OEM. People do know better at Toyota and even GM, but too many people don't think long term and they ignore the older guys
@@jesusfer7795 These companies having problems aren't any big secret or revelation. You're practically talking about lost causes and the folks still buying from them get what they deserve to an extent, especially where Ford and GM are concerned. There's years of his videos where he chronicles problem after problem for them. And Tesla owners are practically cult members now if they stick with those cars from that company while that ijit of a techbro is running it. It's far more newsworthy when you see a company like Toyota or Honda falling down, because when they're no different than the rest then you have no good choices and it doesn't matter how much Ford or GM suck then, now does it, Mr. Caps Lock.
Get this! She thinks it’s “worth it” Look did you know I can install a nice aftermarket radio on something like a 2018 Sequoia and get better features and it’d have no subscription or strings? And likely sound better? With a bigger screen? Likely be more reliable too? Ah wait, doesn’t have a warranty…oh well, can’t save everyone from themselves
I understand, it was unthinkable for us too. Someone pulled out in front of my wife on highway in our beautiful '97 corolla (all modernized with the latest gps, cams, led lights, etc.) last year, fortunately the airbags behaved like champs...we were blessed to replace it with an '07 civic and an '09 camry, now all upgraded with the latest gps and cams and such. So there is life beyond corolla too. The '07 civic is our favorite to drive and has a lot more power than corolla despite getting 7 mpg better.
We looked at getting the corolla last year. Has a cvt. Also looked at the mazda 3 hatchback, similar price. Mazda comes with more bells & whistles, feels more solid compared to the corolla, and has automatic trans. And built in Japan.
@@debl9957 good call...rock solid automatic transmission was the whole point of owning the gutless corollas...if you wanted more power and mpg the stick shifts were an almost as reliable option...cvt is a head scratcher - toyota violated the "if it aint broke doctrine".
Scotty isn’t afraid to say things others wouldn’t. That’s why I keep coming back to watch your videos. Happy New Years America from your neighbours up north 😀

I did flooring in the mid-2000s before the recession of 08 and was properly trained by someone who did flooring for 40 years. And took that trade with me doing side jobs on top of my experience in automotive repair thanks to my dad teaching me when I was 12, and reading all the car magazines and Shop manuals while in Junior High. Do not ever give a job to somebody just because of whatever race they are. I don't know how in the world that started but absolutely agree with you Scotty that it must end because it's absolutely unfair for anybody who can't get the job that they're qualified for. I keep it old school!! "Nothing in life is for free and nothing is giving to you just because". And I hate to say this but it is definitely a generational situation of laziness an unwillingness to work hard for anything in life.
I didn't subscribe for the navigation on my Toyota, I use the navigation from my cell phone. I can use Google maps or Waze. Why pay for another service, when I already it on my cellphone, and it ties to my info system.
@@SK-fq1by3977 I hear you there, Google maps has shown my location on the opposite side of the city where I live. I had to tell Google twice that it is the wrong location. So much for AI, when it can't read a map.
@dustincollins16 exactly. Bc no one will know how to use a map Take phone lines you used to be able to install them yourself. Use debit/credit no charge.. but give it time you will always be charged for convenience. Getting charged for bags at stores now they used to be free.
His rant about dei is true. Imagine being trapped in a burning building and the firefighter hired to save you cant do their job because they're severely out of shape and only got it because they "ticked the right minority/diversity box"
Man, you are 100% correct one should not rise to the top because of who they are but mainly because they deserve to rise to the top. Because they can make a better product or do a better job It seems pretty clear cut and simple.
Thank you for telling it like it is, @Scotty Kilmer; Bringer of TRUTH! I'd much rather buy an older vehicle that has less electronic bells and whistles because Less IS More! I LOVE my older Toyota Tacoma and enjoy using my cellphone's GPS if I need electronic directions. Life is far less complicated with a vehicle that was made far better than recent models.
Prices of new cars and trucks have just gone to stupid levels. Inflation combined with material and supply shortages have just caused a lot of people to be priced out of the market.
My 2003 toyota still runs like a clock, no rust, simple to work on. Some car company could make a fortune by bringing back the 2003 Toyota lineup. I would buy one. I can't force myself to buy a 2025.
What about the fact that all the tundras now have tailgates that open and close with a push of a button now that’s just a disgrace to all capable men in my opinion
My 1981 Huffy 10-speed still going like a charm and gets around 20 miles per granola bar and water before needing some rest, mainly just used as a grocery getter and around town, which is all the transporation I need now.
I cannot buy another Toyota because I'm seeing prices go way up, quality slipping, and now subscription service for something that doesn't need to be just to shake us down financially.
I saw a battery Jag that died last week trying to pull into a gas station. It had to sit half in traffic because it couldn’t be pushed up the incline to the parking lot.
Toyota did that to my 23 tacoma. They shut off my auto start feature with the keyfob. They want you to either pay or download the Toyota app and agree to monitoring. I wonder what they do with that info? Sell it to insurance companies or just the highest bidder .
@@StanTheObserver-lo8rx Trust me I know that Stan, I was curious because I can tell his rav4 is going to last a long time compared to other Crossover suvs. But I just asked because it kinda had nothing to do with the Toyota app problems

I’m was looking to buy a Toyota or Lexus but thanks to Toyota for putting 4 cylinder turbocharged engines and subscriptions they just lost a big sale! I think my next option will be Acura or Mazda! I need to do some research on these manufacturers
I also agree with Scotty, however I believe that the diversity hires are Americas “chickens coming home to roost”. Let me explain…we all know that that this country has held back qualified people because of their gender and/or race and this stems from government all the way to individual companies and now because of that, they are being forced to create and/or accept laws of inclusion because they need more diversity regardless if a person is qualified or not so they have to hire for a more diverse atmosphere within the company, whereas if they would’ve put their prejudices aside and did what was best for the company and the country we wouldn’t be in this position. The rabbit hole goes a lot deeper and thats another conversation but, I believe a lot of this stems from government and companies past decisions.
Ford did similar to me. Scotty, can you use your popularity to get the word out, "politicians stop businesses from unilaterally changing terms after the sale."
I walk out with one of my 'spare keys' and start my vehicle then lock it up. When warm I go out and unlock it with another key and move on down the road. Really hard to do huh? As a note, its not just greedy companies. Its lazy consumers.
If you have a phone you don’t need navigation. We pay for phone service with access to navigation through Apple Car Play or Android Auto. We don’t need navigation in our cars!
That’s the problem with all these new cars they come with all these technological features that if something goes wrong, the whole entire car stops working for example, a simple car key used to be cheap to replace now because of all the electronics involved in the keys and the key fobs replacing a simple car key could cost $300 minimum Replacing a windshield on a car can cost $1000 for a simple windshield replacement used to only cost at the most $150 why because they have to calibrate all the sensors as far as I’m concerned, they can take all those sensors and feature technology and stick them where the sun don’t shineIt’s like they make cars for dummies now just give me an old-school car and I’m cool.

I mean, the car obviously should be working. However, none of the features you describes as having issues are essential to the car. Remote start not working? Just turn the car on yourself! Navigation not working? Just buy yourself a handsfree phone holder and read you map like everyone else!
Honestly.... i dont really want a new car. I have a 2017 tacoma, which is pretty new to me. Besides the reliability of newer cars, touch screens are getting too big and everything is on them. Im 25 but i like the knobs way better
I think my buddies 2025 Chevy Tahoe comes with a five year free subscription to their remote start. Toyota better get their act together, cause I may be leaving them after several years of being a loyal customer. Keep up the good work, Scotty!
The other thing that you should know is that Toyota App keeps track of the car….LITERALLY EVERYTHING THE CAR DOES💯Speed, stops, starts, signals, location, revs, turns….EVERYTHING!
I bought a new Rav4 in 2021 and have always had to pay for the remote start subscription after year 1. Not everyone needs this; I do. My car sits in a cold parking lot all day, Nov-April, when I'm at work. It's $89/yr. Not a big deal.

Does not her Toyota Highlander have android auto or apple car play when you plug your phone into the ubs c plug to use infotainment system to get your phone apps on the infotainment system screen to use for navigation Google Maps and Apple Map and to answer incoming calls or place outgoing calls?
Mr. Scotty, don't believe everything these people write. A woman got an app on her phone with free access for 2 years. If she had paid to install the remote start from key OPTION, she wouldn't have had to pay a subscription for it! People have no idea what they're buying, and then they complain. Learn to read contracts and know what you need! The same woman can connect her phone to her car and use the navigation from her phone, but of course she has to think a little, and it's easier to complain.
There is a thing called to much Technology.!! Pick up a Map and learn how to navigate the old way .! People today are frigging lazy .! We don’t need all of this technology to drive a car or a truck just give us an automobile that runs on gas with the old gears and mechanics.!!
My girlfriend has lived in our city for 8 years and still doesn't know street names and where she is unless her phone GPS is running perfectly. I tried to get her to look at a map, draw a picture of where we are, then where she's going. Look at the street names. If she did that about 2 months she'd know how to never get lost when her GPS makes mistakes. People who were raised with too much technology are struggling. Then again: She can buy stuff on the internet and manage her bank account without going anywhere. I'll probably never trust the computers that much. Buy local, shop local.
I recently went to a Toyota dealer as I was truck shopping. It was kind of surreal. I happened on this dealer I wasn't even looking for as I was driving a couple of hours to look at another lot. The surreal part was it was a very large dealership in what I'd call the middle of nowhere. It dawned on me that they must be selling an inordinate amount of vehicles to support this out-sized dealership, so I stopped. The first thing I noticed was compared to all the other full-size truck makers these were not being overtly discounted. I did bother to sit down and we worked out their best price on one I might consider if I lowered my expectations which I wasn't keen to do since it's a third vehicle I didn't truly need. There were things that gave me pause not the least of which it didn't aesthetically look as good as most RAMS, GMS, and Fords. After I listened to Scotty about how this new motor is a bag of hurt I wondered what is going on at Toyota and how will they move all of the many trucks I saw on this dealership...especially because they were in no way aggressively discounting their was over-inflated sticker prices. When I drove off that lot I had a thought that such a big dealership in the middle of nowhere probably built their house on the old Toyota that made the best and kicked 'em out the door at truly reasonable prices and that such a large scale operation in a limited populated area was going to be heading into a new era that, unless the prices get realistic, is unsustainable. Still looking and hoping to find the right full-size truck.
you can still use the key fob for remote start without a fee. If you use the app, which allows you to start from any distance, you pay a fee because it is a network service and costs Toyota money.
Yes, that’s true. I had a 2021 RAV4 hybrid…it came with a one year free trial for the roadside assistance and other remote features. I decided to pay the monthly fee after the trial. I recently traded it in for a 2025 model…it comes with a 3 year free trial, thank you Toyota.
Thanks for yelling me about Toyota. I was thinking about buying a Camery. I think I will put some money in to my Buick. I test drove an Accord but it rides like crap. My Buick Verano rides great an I can get as good at 38 mpg with good driving conditions.
I am a white male. 29 years ago I graduated from a historically black college with an engineering degree. It took me one year to find someone to hire me. I graduated magna cum laude but I was last in line to be hired. Many of my classmates had multiple job options before they even graduated! Hiring based on anything other than merit only perpetuates negative stereotyping.
Who is primarily in control of the government and many of these corporations. You all do the most complaining about not getting hired when it’s your demographic who is in charge. So basically what I’m hearing is anyone who is non-white is hired based on skin color alone regardless of any experience they may have that you are unaware of. Everyone race makes mistakes. Every race of people has idiots. There are plenty of times my mom has taken her car to white mechanics, and I had to fix their mistakes.
I only have older great running and driving domestic vehicles so no worries here. Never had a non domestic and never will. Never going to buy any brand new or newer vehicle at the prices nowadays. Maybe in 6 to 10 years I might buy from a local individual when they are dirt cheap because those who own them have no clue how to fix them or how to remove the silly electronic stuff like cameras and such. Keep buying new people as we are waiting for a dirt cheap deal at you all's expense
There is a means of still remote starting my 2023 Tacoma even though I didn't renew the Toyota Connected services that you are referring to. Push the top button twice quick and then on the third push hold it until the vehicle starts.

Lexus has connect for years. However the remote start works without it. When I did have connect it was cool because you spoke to a live person who was usually a help. But after the free two years my computer phone is just as good.
The only way to stop them from doing this is to stop (or at least put off) buying a new car. The problem is that too many of us are children who have to have the newest shiny jingly thing. Would work for a lot of other stuff as well.
ES250 folks hate on for weak engine, but I love it cause it starts with keyfob, Apple Car Play for Waze Navigation, great on regular gas, and AWD when needed. Used with plenty left on manufacture warranty for $30k, and I drive like a grandpa anyway, screw it😂

The "Subscription Payment System" (like Leasing/Renting an Appartment Unit at a Section 8 Appartment Complex) is what the powers that (shouldn't) be wants to become the "International Standard" as it is part of their "You will own nothing and be happy, and eat ze bugz" New World Order agenda.
and they've bribed politicians hard to make it illegal to fix/upgrade your own car because most people would just install a better OS and apps
Tom Petty wrote a song that said, in part, "As we celebrate mediocrity, all the boys upstairs want to see......is how much you'll pay for what you used to get for free" (from the Last DJ album).
Hint for you it's free on your phone
@legros731 I use Google maps exclusively anyways. But there are some companies making other features on a car a subscription service, other than navigation. It's disgusting and there is NO reason for it other than to extract even more money from consumers.
Subscriptions are the way into renting everything - "You will own nothing and be happy"
Thanks Scotty for being a voice of reason.
I have said that since I heard Gates and Schwab say it, as soon as they came up with that idea I looked at all the software and Hardware that they control everything is going to be theirs we are living in their world
If Toyota is trying to get people to pay to use their key every month they are so screwed
Nah people are just idiots. They can use remote start from the key fob.
No one should need a subscription to go from point A to point B. Right-on Scotty !!!

I worked in OEM radio design and testing till about 2019, the people making these decisions are young and arrogant designers/salesmen at the OEM. People do know better at Toyota and even GM, but too many people don't think long term and they ignore the older guys
It's an upside down situation if young, arrogant people are overruling older, experienced people.

Caps Lock.

Why would anyone want or pay for a navigation system on a car when there's a better one updated frequently on every cell phone?
Every cell phone? You sure?
@DarkForce2024 he was talking Google Maps
Its not just that.. its like a dozen of things you can do on the app.
I use car navigation when traveling because your phone dosent have service then navigation dosent work. But the car one will still work.

My 2000 Corolla is running great. I don't know what I'll get when the time comes. I don't want to even think about it .
Maintain it and the time will never come.
My time came two weeks ago. (R.I.p my 2004) Dad helped me get the new Corolla hatchback

I agree with you 💯 % Scotty about hiring the right person for the job, it should go by qualifications, not gender or race
Absolutely 💯 agree
I agree. It's ridiculous.
You know nothing about the car buisness.

Ram truck is the best deal right now. And they have a good finance deal.
you can still use the key fob for remote start without a fee.
