4:58-5:01 I will always love that the Black Templar knowingly break the codex’s rule on chapter size, but nobody can do anything since they’re (unknowingly I think) using a loop hole that lets them ignore that rule if they are on crusade and they are never not on crusade.
The reason I love this channel is that its really entertaining but you are also a brilliant painter, in fact its actually surprising just how good your paint jobs are as you dont really aim to be a pure painting channel. Anyway these look fantastic!
Love this. Getting comfy in a chair and popping in my headphones to watch one of these feels like curling up with a blanket and a warm cup of soup in the winter.
Jay you are an inspiration. As someone who is lucky to finish a single marine in a week, seeing you complete so many minis to the standard you deliver so quickly really inspires me to keep going. Mini painting god over here!! Never stop Jay.
Just a quick tip - when painting the flames on candles, the gradient should be reversed; yellow/white at the centre where its hottest and then gradually getting more red as the flame gets 'colder' or further from the source
A buddy of mine did a lot of the army painting on the warhammer world dioramas. He swears by batch painting in 4s to maximize speed but also for fatigue/getting results done
There was a math error, it's not one terminator every "1h 25min" it's one every 1h 15 min. 600/8=75. Besides that as always AMAZING WORK my man it's a pure pleasure to listen to your voice and watch how you paint. 10/10 would recommend to everyone.
incredible outcome, great talent and artistry, high detail and quality in short time, and great production quality video. Your videos are some of the most enjoyable ones to watch.
Have you guys put out a tutorial for how you achieve such nice Battlefield debris bases, I've got to a point where my painting is good but my bases are lackluster
I think the community needs to challenge Jay to try a true black scheme one last time. Juan Hidalgo has an amazing one that's just a bit of slapchop with Vallejo black lotus
It kills me how fast you do this and how good it looks. Takes me 6 hours for 1 guy to looks 1/2 as good. I am going to have to start doing some of these on my BTs
Sweet Jay!.. love your enthusiasm man. I still have an original metal box set of the first ever Terminators from like 40 years ago nearly.. some of them unpainted.. I feel ur skinny legs comment
You've got this paint scheme down, it looks great. The face came out good too. I don't do time challenges, but I will set goals and time targets. Similar but no clock ticking, that isn't a bad idea really! I've only got 20 models left of my 125 models TYRANID army I bought and goal to finish this year, I'm hoping to finish by the end of September. I'll probably beat that date.
Great video, I've been thinking about terminators lately since starting a space marine army but I'm still not sure how I feel about the sculpt. I think the CSM ones look better but your painting really makes the loyalists shine so maybe the paint will make the model.
I think it's the general youtube effect of only showing little parts of steps, when really he's working on every model and waiting for paint to dry the whole time
Damn Jay, you are speed :D. And the quality does not diminish, love them. But I do wonder about the putty thing protecting the plastic, I never had any issues glueing painted things on painted things, but then again I never tried to remove lets say an arm or any other pice of a miniature X)
10:48 It me be "unreasonable" to be helmet-less in Terminator armor, but IMO it matches the Black Templar's vibe. They seem like they would want to look their enemy in the eye unimpeded by eye lens glass while they stab them to death with a power sword.
Batch painting is (was?) the only way i can get through my tau troops... TBH, I was never big on kroot, so when the new big box came out I ate it up. I'm only now getting it done, but 4 at once on the carnivores is making it go quick, thanks for something to watch while I get it all done!
While painting nearly a whole lot of Space Marines in a day is impressive at your level, I *really* want to see how Jay handles painting a kit of Terminators with only using Normal Acrylics, no Contrasts, Shades, Speed paints, washes, metallics or dry brushing, I encourage anyone who wants to step up their painting skills to do this It does take longer, but it really makes you think about your precision and control, it's the only way I like to paint my minis
After your last video talking about your ten man squad of terminators I went in printed myself a ten man squad plus one each of the special weapons and ancient in terminator armor. As well as a sergeant or might run him as a captain for my Flesh Tearers! So that’s 12 models I batch painted and god did I hate it. I Spent like a week painting them granted only maybe an hour or two a day not counting weekends where I can paint at my leisure. I really should have done your method of small assembly line painting because by the end I hated doing anything on them. But they did come out looking good so there is that.
A little late but i get the feeling, i just assembled a squad of cadians in one sitting the other night, and painted them all in about 7 hours, did the same thing but every figure one by one one color at a time to not waste time opening the tricky pots lol good for guard to get a large pile of sprues into the army
I know this would go against the grain, but it could also be interesting to see a "one regular model in 10 hours" kind of challenge. I think it would give confidence to a lot of painters that they see you struggle to keep going when you feel it is finished and that sometimes good enough is good enough. You could then refer to this video where you get a lot more done with the same amount of time and talk about time investment vs. getting on the table happy.
How do you avoid brush strokes with the contrast paints? I was trying to copy your black armor recipe but gave up and just airbrushed my marines black because I wasn't able to avoid brush strokes, maybe it's just my brush I was using
Anyone have any advice for getting the smooth coats of contrast paint that Jay gets? Mine always ends up patchy on smooth surfaces like armor. I'm thinking probably not enough contrast medium?
Do you have a beginner guide to painting black templars? I used my new Leviathan box to make ultramarines because I'm brand new, so I made the default chapter. But I want to paint some competitive racists! Any video recommendations or general tips?
the issue in starting again or just starting is not having everything u need. when i started a few months ago I was mising some paints and tried to improvise, I did not quit but getting the courage to continue after my first minis were kind of bad bc i improvised with not enough knowledge was kind of a hard bummer for my motivation tbh...
I've just built 5 of the new Terminators for my Ultramarines, brilliant kit as well went together beautifully, and I've gotten my Ultramarines painting down pretty well now, I could maybe paint them in 5 hours, well probs not I am very slow and methodical but why not
Im building 27 black templars right now... I hate it lmfao. My god the sprues with all the numbers, going back and forth between book... Mold lines etc. But my god do I love them and cannot wait to paint them all up.
Awesome job and beautifully painted minis. My biggest issue on all my armies is the fact I’m never satisfied with the base armor color. What’s the aspect ratio of the contrast paints? Is it 5x2x5? (5x black templat contrast, 2x leviadon blue, 5x lahmian?) I recently started Black Templars and alredy stripped the color twice on my testing unit :/ The smooth black is pretty difficult to achieve. Thank you!
How you paint this quick is beyond me most models take me anywhere from 3-8 hours each to paint depending on amount of details (and I only do them to battle ready apart from power swords and lenses)

"I hate batch painting!" Later: "Behold *assembly line painting.* It's totally different than batch painting."🤣😆🤣
I think maybe he was thinking about sub-assembly - painting the arms and weapons separate etc
He says that he hates it but will do it anyway, then he goes through his process of making it more tolerable for himself.
“I enjoy the girth” - Jay, 2024
Looks like there was more than miniatures in the closet 😅
I mean he’s openly gay…
@@skylarsmith1220 Doesn't take away from the innuendo
Jay's a based king then.

I'm entirely sure helbrecht is petty enough to read the entire codex astartes simply to break every rule he dislikes.

10 models in 10 hours, now that's soldiering!
8 models technically even though those last 2 are pretty much done haha
Real trooper.
Love this. Getting comfy in a chair and popping in my headphones to watch one of these feels like curling up with a blanket and a warm cup of soup in the winter.

Normally I skip the ads. Glad I was in the other room to here “ my Hands might not be extra large but I enjoy the girth”. Ha ha ha! Gold
They look great! But the number eight is ... well, don't tell the Reclusiarch. Ever.
Just a quick tip - when painting the flames on candles, the gradient should be reversed; yellow/white at the centre where its hottest and then gradually getting more red as the flame gets 'colder' or further from the source
I’m not really a Warhammer modeller but Terminators are the one of the few kits I have, they’re over the top and I love them.
Finishing that many Terminators in a day a painting, to that level of quality, is amazing. Well done Jay.
A buddy of mine did a lot of the army painting on the warhammer world dioramas. He swears by batch painting in 4s to maximize speed but also for fatigue/getting results done
Man his paint setup for Templars looks damn cool.
Well done. Very inspired to hit my Guard again for more detail!
They look stunning. Shows the power of having a well thought out recipe. The contrast recipe for black is one to remember.

The question isn't can one paint ten Terminators in ten hours.
But, will Jay allow himself to paint ten Terminators in ten hours.
Your videos have inspired me to always try something new with every batch of marines I work on. Keep it going man.
I actually really like the old power fist effect at 0:57! Do you have any vidoes showcasing how you did it?
This is awesome. I love the way they look. I am hoping to grow my Deathwing to at least 50 termies strong excluding terminator characters.
incredible outcome, great talent and artistry, high detail and quality in short time, and great production quality video. Your videos are some of the most enjoyable ones to watch.
I have been repeating this scheme and they look great on the table!
Love the lanky thin and long licks of flame on the power fists, very old school Warhammer 40K style! 😁
Your channel inspires me to get paint on models more than sny other. Thank you.
I always wanted to see you paiting some termies ! You did so many BT marines but never termies recently, so hyped for this !!
Hairdryer hammock!!!!! Thanks gents!! fantastic as always!!!

I agree, they look great but they ain't black.

Heres a secret, most blacks are shades of grey ;)
Those candles really sell the BT look. Another Fantastic job!
So freakin' cool. You've got one of the coolest styles I've seen and it keeps getting better. What's the retro game tune @4:15?

“God i hope so, i’m hoping to paint 10 Chaos Terminators from the Veterans box this weekend.”

My time challenges are more in the vein of: I'll finish this squad in 1 month and I still struggle to meet the deadline!
I have the 5 from Leviathan, with Captain and Librarian that I have been "working on" since Feburary.

Painting this fast with this quality is phenomenal! Congrats!
The speed that those terminators are coming together!😮 wicked!

The jumping between both pronunciations of decals was pretty funny.
You always make painting at such a high quality look so easy
I think it's the general youtube effect of only showing little parts of steps, when really he's working on every model and waiting for paint to dry the whole time
Perfect video to watch while painting goblin cave terrain

Is Lamian Medium how you keep the contrast paint consistent over large panels? It’s always splotchy for me and I need a fix.

What was your final black templar recipe? Thinking of doing a new army and I like your look.

what does the hairdryer on the contrast paint do?
