I want to add some nuance and say that although the movie wasn't amazing, I'm glad he chose to end the movie the way he did. It completes a doomsday cabin trifecta. Cabin In The Woods shows what happens when they don't complete the ritual. Knock at the Cabin shows what happens when they do complete the ritual. The novel leaves it ambiguous in a novelly way.
I'm one of the only people that defend Lady In The Water. I turn into a blubbering mess during the healing scene and Paul's monologue. But yes, he means well, but sometimes the execution falls flat. Even his 'bad' films are entertaining.
I want to say that I am so impressed that you guys interact and actually read your fans' comments. It makes you guys REAL to me. And that is A LOT. You both have moved up to real respect, to me. And you guys are my favorite critics!!!
A great Shyamalan movie, which I've watched 3 or 4 times, is "Devil" (the group trapped in the elevator). The caveat to that movie is he wrote it, but did not direct it.
I saw this in the movie theater today with my & daughter. Wasn’t aware of the book, but I had a feeling and told my lovely family no thanks to seeing a gay couple killed off. You put us on the big screen, which is rare, and we’re killed off. However, decided to give it a chance. In the ending the entire theater was quiet. We all ask ourselves what did we just watch. It was really messed up in the end how population was chilling at the diner. I told my wife that if that was us we’re taking a chance and not sacrificing ourselves, because it is still a what if.
Here’s my issue I didn’t feel the severity of them needing to die every time the family said no , like they made it seem like they only had visions and no one clearly spoke to them or anything they all said they don’t quite understand so it’s like how u just know how necessary it is for u to put on hang white head cover and die like it just didn’t connect with me
I wish they would have shown the dark creatures that they hinted a couple times (drawings in the opening credits and one of the dads thinking he saw one of them in the mirror). M. Night could have made it much creepier if he handled it like in Signs, and if these creatures were the last part of the apocalypse (darkness descends upon humanity). I wish they would have shown that just a bit before one of them sacrificed the other and stopped it.
Goddammit, Shyamalan! The book was brilliant and there were so many things you could've done with it! Why not keep it the same until the last possible moment when the father's decide to sacrifice each other which revives Wen who goes off with the last surviving woman into an uncertain future. This sucks! This was a great video, guys, and I look forward to more!
I also enjoy your interactions with each other... always something new and often funny! I love how your two different personalities compliment one another
Yes I agree and they both of their zodiac signs are of Scorpio..I hope that they have many many married years together and that they keep their subtle eye rolls and light banter in their videos…it makes for great TV..I mean UA-cam. 🤗
Yes, thank you! You guys really articulated what I was feeling about the movie but unable to really pinpoint. I agree that the lack of ambiguity hurt the film in a lot ways. I didn't dislike the film, just felt like it was missing a layer or something and you guys really nailed it.
I liked Sixth Sense, The Visit (love the twist ending when crazy grandparents chase the kids), Unbreakable, and Signs. Great review guys! I might stream this when it’s free, certainly not rent it or in theater. The ending seems oddly underwhelming. Love Joseph’s eyes 👀 and reactions haha. Fish jelly you made my morning!
Yes I agree with your movie likes as well. I also notice that not only is Nick’s icy blue eyes BEAUTIFUL, but he truly does speak with them without saying a word. LMAO.
I went into this movie with really low expectations and I’m happy to say the movie met those expectations so I wasn’t disappointed since I wasn’t expecting much from this movie to begin with.
Great post! I am once again motivated to see this movie! Luckily for me I can pick up on twist endings so there is no way you two can truly spoil a movie for me because its about how they get the twist ending is what counts!
I often watch a lot of your videos in its entirety months late due to spoilers. I love hearing your initial thoughts, and if its good, I may check it out myself before I finish your video. But also, if I try to watch a movie and I don't like it, I will just turn the movie off and watch your review instead. That's what I did with this movie. I just couldn't take it seriously and thought it was kind of thin and goofy. But I loved your review of it! 🙂
Shymalan = Steven king when it comes to movies. Premise is usually solid but everything else seems lacking. Though every once in awhile he can hit a homerun, hearing this is his 15th film is kinda crazy, he’s putting together a pretty solid run
Awesome review as always love the shirts and love you guys! I'm happy to know what I'm about to spend my money on now and sounds fun enough haha Thanks for this!
I read the book first and as soon as I saw the first frame of the trailer, I knew what it was. Sad that they changed the ending because much of the tension in the book is not knowing whether the strangers are telling the truth or not.
I liked The Village more the second time I watched it in a hotel room where there was nothing else on the TV and actually realized on the second watch that it was a pretty good movie.
I was intrigued by the trailer...when you said Shyamalan I instantly deflated lol. The fervour with which Nick says he doesn't like The Happening, is like the tip of the iceberg of disdain I feel for his atrocious adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Glad to hear Bautista is getting more roles, he seems to be interested in his craft and not just being a muscly meathead. Thanks for saving me my movie ticket fare :)
You answered many 'questions' with a great review! The trailers for this had me curious! Weirdly, not for *if* Mr M.Night had (finally) done a 'fitting/logical end' to a plot. But more for Dave Bautista's portrayal in this lead role! Imo, WWE's Stone Cold Steve Austin 'acting' was terrible as villain in Expendables. John Cena is doing 'something' of it I guess! Wondering if Bautista's 'acting chops' make the role(s) memorable.😊
I like your review on this movie (I haven’t seen it yet)…also is it Nick’s (every now and then Joseph will throw in a few) job to use BIG words to confuse the viewers? Instead of fully enjoying the videos, I find myself having to pause the video each time he uses a word like rudimentary, dystopic, etc…I used to watch the entire video and as the BIG words would come spewing out I’d write them down and then when the video was over I’d google the words to find out the meaning or other words that have the same meaning, but then I’d find myself having to go back and watch the video again because I couldn’t remember in what context the BIG word was used (smart way to get extra views by the way), but now I just pause the movie, google the BIG word(s) and start the video back up. Anyway and as ALWAYS thanks for watching the movies (so we don’t necessarily have to), and telling us your thoughts🤗🤓
I thought this movie was so bland, no twist happened, nothing. I think it would have been a better ending if the apocalypse was fake and so Andrew killed Eric for nothing. That would have been a much more powerful ending imo
Saw this yesterday. I think the movie should have started with the couple and their daughter riding to the cabin in the woods because that's what they showed in the trailer. I'm confused as to one minute they were talking about preventing an apocalypse from happening to plagues happening. But they only seem to happen after one of the visitors was sacrificed. It kinda reminds me of Moses with the let my people go or else. And why was the family confined to the cabin? I thought the visitors were supposed to deliver the message only. And why did the visitors slash the couple's tires? And you guys forgot to mention the 4 virtues that each character represented. And one last thing, the guy called Redman was probably his nickname after all he did have red hair😆
just watched this tonight and actually really enjoyed it! my partner and i liked it much more than old, and we both liked the ending. our 5 year old was supposed to stay the night at her grandparents and as we were leaving the theater she called and told us she wanted to come home. after that ending we were already missing her and were more than happy to go pick her up! love your guys reviews! i listen to the podcast all the time and love to hear your discussions!💗
The lil girl was in Raven’s Home. Even tho I watched this & other spoiler reviews, I still plan on watching it in theaters for the LGBT representations 🏳️🌈
A real twist ending was just lettin all four of the strangers die and then it’s revealed that they literally were all delusional. That no one is worth stopping the apocalypse. The book did a better job at trying to define what it meant to end the word. Either the literal world or the world as the parents knew it. Regardless, I would have said screw the world and give me my kid and husband. The REAL and TRUE gay experience would be denying my family to anyone that will spread a literal plague just to stop us existing. We LGBTs been around since the Dawn of time. Just cuz we never had children doesn’t mean we cannot make a family or stop existing all on our own. Honestly the true ending would be the family survive and these 4Chan members bite the dust.
I wish I had seen your review before going to see this movie. 1. The trailers gave away way too much. 2. I waited for the M. Night Shyalaman twist that never happened. 3. At no point of the movie did I doubt the validity of the four visitors so I never had that WTF feeling.
I thought the trailer looked dumb but I still gave it a shot. Alas, it *was* dumb. I felt like the pacing was off and there was loose ends that lead to nowhere. Like why did they have to make their weapons a certain way and did Rupert Grint know that was the same couple he did a hate crime to? What was the online forum they all met on? What was the point of all of the flashbacks besides making Andrew look angry? It was just all over the place lol
M. Knight Shamalamadingdong makes you appreciate what a great film-maker and Director Steven Spielberg is and he disappoints me every fucking time. THAT being said your discussion feels like you liked "KNOCK AT THE CABIN" more than you say, ha. I will say that I love the "Servant" series.
My two cents. They made the main characters gay because they are almost automatically instilled with the “us against the world” mentality. In the end that was their greatest obstacle (?). To stop being so angry at a world that judged them and and alienated them. The little girl was awesome and that line at the end in the treehouse “did daddy Eric save everyone?” Made me legit tear up.
Oh Lord . I can't. While acknowledging. and LOVE you both. Am such a die hard fan of M. Knight? First time in my life......stopped at 2:01. Can't hear the Spoilers/the rest. Co's' Truth is? : Had you both had this channel when The Sixth Sense hit?! In my humble opinion : Would have TORN it to pieces. Given it a 1.5 rating. No? .....kinda think - YES. So shall love you and leave you. Check out this movie on my own. If shit? Will come back in here n say so. Trust n believe xoxoxoxo
Thank you so much! Because none of the reviews are addressing the fact that ole boy had the opportunity to shoot Leonard, and he didn't take it. Not only that, but was a completely nincompoop, for believing that Leonard's 300lb body was gonna fit thru that tiny window!
Why does M. Night have to ruin his creations almost similar to how Ryan Murphy has trouble sticking his landings a lot of times. I was holding out hope for this one. Thank you both for the review!
That is a very good way to put it!! "Ruined creations" is like the creators of Lost and Once Upon a Time: really good ideas that start out strong then go in a million directions with lots of loose ends lol
@@reallifein3d Hi, i liked the acting in Knock film but the ending wasnt great.. maybe because the film wasn't true to the book that caused issues .. my fave M Night films are Signs, Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense..only ones I feel didnt really disappoint me..
I actually really appreciated that it was exactly what it said it was. I kept waiting for a twist but I was kind of happy there wasn’t one. A la “the mist” and sure it could’ve been darker, but then it would’ve been full blown horror.
Per usual the trailers gave way too much away. But I like that it was a "happy" ending. We don't need all that gloom and doom in every movie. I loved it. M. Night movies are typically a hit or miss. This was a surprising 'hit'. Remember time was moving differently so in the diner scene at the end they were calm because many hours had passed They've probably been gathered for hours watching the same news footage over and over so that's why everyone wasn't panicking.
I saw this Monday night at a screening and HATED it. I read the book a year ago in anticipation and hated it so much BUT the changes made to the film made me actually appreciate the book more because at least the book took risks. This film is POINTLESS because the whole mystique of the story is “is the apocalypse really looming?” and the film tells you it’s really happening halfway through thus making the rest of the film futile. The book left you ambiguous and this tells you up front, hell, it shows you it’s real. HATED IT.
yeah I think youre right with who should have directed it the ppl youre naming by the movies they made, they probably woulda made it look a little ..bit better like a little more open I dont know how to explain if I am even making any sense but I liked it
I hated this movie. It was so boring and I hate the whole idea of aliens/gods using us as just some crazy experiment. I didn't care for it in a Stephen King novel (don't want to spoil the book if you haven't read it yet, if you have you know what I'm talking about) and I didn't care for it in this movie. The book was fantastic in both cases
I don't think Baptista's character tricked the guy into thinking he climbed through the window because the guy shot at the shower curtain so I think he believed he was hiding in the bath. Baptista might of thrown him off because he didn't scream out after he was shot.
My ending: The girl and her dad drive off. They reach the highway... and are immediately in a massive crash with an 18-wheeler. CUT TO BLACK 😈 Awesome review as ever lads!
The book sounds so much better. Feels more realistic to the couple. I'm a straight male and I was rooting for the men. I felt like they gave in at the end. I didn't see the intruders as the 4 horsemen, I saw them as invaders. Agents of society trying to impose themselves on a family they had no right imposing themselves on. The book sounds more like how i would have liked the movie to end. love your review guys!
Are you there God, it's me, Abraham? So there were NO RAMS ANYWHERE that we could haggle a maiming and 4 goats to maybe keep 50% of the population? ( I am sorry Mama for this joke)...my wine has fully kicked in. I'm going to be silent now.
just saw it today and i liked it especially the twist to it. i keep thinking ron weasley was getting back at the two dads for the bar brawl that happened.
I might check this out but I'm always let down after watching a M. Night Shyamalan film. The Sixth Sense was the only Shyamalan movie that I really enjoyed.
I hated that ending, if murdering a loved one is the way to stop Apocalypse I agree with book's Andrew. Fuck it and entity that inflicts choices like that on people.
I read the novel this was based on….it did have a much more ambiguous end! Yeah seems like some big differences …I actually thought the book was also odd in its premise. I mean I would never consider killing. A.Loved One because a bunch of whack. Jobs show up to say that nonsense idea…, what would some idea of “ saving humanity “ mean if you can’t save your most loved ones .a lot of detail with the young adopted daughter and the grasshoppers sounds identical to the book though. I would like to see it when it gets to streaming.
The only M Night movie I liked was Unbreakable. It seems like he's always trying to do this magical realism thing, but it just comes off as campy, absurd, and awkward. Unbreakable was the only movie where he actually kind of pulled it off.
I feel like Shyamalan has great ideas but his execution is hit or miss. Maybe if he stuck more closely to the book, the movie would have been better.
@@hydra4370 i agree. I did prefer the ending of this film to the book.
He learned from "The Mist" ending lol ...not very positive feedback from choosing that ending .

These reviews be more entertaining than the movies i swear 😂
Let's be honest. No major American studio would give $20 million to fund a movie where the kid dies under the circumstances described in the novel.
I want to say that I am so impressed that you guys interact and actually read your fans' comments. It makes you guys REAL to me. And that is A LOT. You both have moved up to real respect, to me. And you guys are my favorite critics!!!

Nick what did you think of "The Sixth Sense"? I did enjoy that film. Although "Signs" was not my favorite by a long shot.
As I was watching, I kept thinking “I wish Ari aster directed this”
Per usual the trailers gave way too much away. But I like that it was a "happy" ending. We don't need all that gloom and doom in every movie. I loved it. M. Night movies are typically a hit or miss. This was a surprising 'hit'.
Remember time was moving differently so in the diner scene at the end they were calm because many hours had passed
They've probably been gathered for hours watching the same news footage over and over so that's why everyone wasn't panicking.
question - did ANYONE like the Happening?? 😆
It’s fun to make fun of 🤷🏻♀️
I did. It's silly funny
Similar to The Seventh Sign
Seriously, how does he still get funding for movies? The Left Behind series I'm sure is better.
I’m wondering why his magazine wasn’t loaded. Certainly he wasn’t prepared.
I adored the Sixth Sense, and I can't wait to see Knock At The Cabin. Not all films are gems.
I liked the movie but like always the book is much better. Also I think I would let the world burn if I was in the couple's shoes.
I don't think Baptista's character tricked the guy into thinking he climbed through the window because the guy shot at the shower curtain so I think he believed he was hiding in the bath. Baptista might of thrown him off because he didn't scream out after he was shot.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Shyamalan movies!
My ending:
The girl and her dad drive off.
They reach the highway...
and are immediately in a massive crash with an 18-wheeler.
CUT TO BLACK
😈
Awesome review as ever lads!
I was seriously sort of expecting that
I never saw the movie nor heard of the book, but by just seeing the title of the movie, I skipped even wanting to find out what that was about :)
Loved the film. Glad I seen it in theaters
You should be a comedy writer. I will pay for the wine! 😉
The dad's pissed me off leaving their daughter in the front yard while they were on the back porch
The Sixth Sense still the #1 movie I enjoyed from M Night S….
I liked it cause it reminded me of The Seventh Sign
Ditto. Thought the Seventh Sign was better though.
just saw it today and i liked it especially the twist to it. i keep thinking ron weasley was getting back at the two dads for the bar brawl that happened.
You said a mouthful! Welcome to “faith” aka “religion”.... what a joke right!?
@@darkdemonqueen yes, being born in a country where they force catholicism on you, I sincerely hate it.
It was just very slow between the plagues… like even watching the tv was kind of slow
Oh okay, thank u
The only M Night movie I liked was Unbreakable. It seems like he's always trying to do this magical realism thing, but it just comes off as campy, absurd, and awkward. Unbreakable was the only movie where he actually kind of pulled it off.
I love Unbreakable
