@@zekecolgate yes Trocadero that's right changed it.. never got to see Jane's but did see Navarro with the Chilli Peppers at Cow Palace earlier that year and got to see Perry + Steve with PfP
I saw that tour! At Irving Plaza in NYC. Cornershop opening for Porno For Pyros. Great show! I was too young to see Jane's the first time around, so I was psyched to catch Porno For Pyros. I did catch Jane's Halloween show in 1997 or 1998 at the Hammersmith in NYC, but it would've been way cooler to catch them in their prime.
Heh, only in Florida would someone willingly accept a counterfeit $100 bill for payment at Denny's. Considering it was likely late night/post concert, the server was probably stoned and didn't give a shit! And of course it wouldn't be a Perry Farrell project without controversial artwork!
The problem was that Perry negotiated a contract for himself of 50% off the top, and then 25% of the remaining 50%. So Dave, Eric and Stephen ended up making 12.5% of the money generated from Jane's Addiction. Obviously this is gonna cause tensions. Perry was pretty Disingenuous about the whole thing. No wonder Eric never really wanted anything to do with Perry & Jane's again.
@@Thatguy55595 He came back because Trent Reznor is someone he respected. Trent was trying to be a bridge to get the original band back together. Eric's understanding was that it would be a new creative venture, but after doing some studio recordings of "Whores" and "Chip Away" with Trent producing and then a small tour with NIN, Eric realized that it was ultimately just another Perry venture for money with no real desire to make good new Jane's Addiction material. So we all got a shit album with Duff McKagan later. Eric has done better music since the original band broke up. Deconstruction, the Polar Bear projects and "Help Wanted" are much better than what Perry has done since. Perry was the face of Jane's, but Eric was the musical backbone.
@@LegendoftheDragonSword he might have been the backbone but without Perry Eric would be a nobody. Perry wrote all the lyrics and melodies and came up with the art and aesthetic with Casey

Basically, Porno for Pyros were Jane´s Addiction with different guitar and bass players. Good God Urge is still one of my favorite 90s albums until this day.
Mike Watt was also a mainstay on Los Angeles-based pirate radio station, KBLT, AND Perry Farrell reportedly attended a benefit concert thrown for the station in its heyday, around 1998.
After the Minutemen, Watt had a band called Firehose that was one of those early college radio/proto-alternative groups like early Jane's. Ragin' Full On is a great album.
You're partly correct (and I also had some time DJing on KBLT myself) but it had to be earlier - late '96? - because P4P broke up in 1998. I know this for sure, because I was their co-manager at the time. I'm even playing the devil here -- ua-cam.com/video/tr6U5aLSqdc/v-deo.html
Hey bro - I dig your stories and a couple of clarifications for everyone. Jane's had 3 albums with the first being self titled on Triple X records and they are all good to great. Then the Porno for Pyros song that Navarro and Flea were on is Hardcharger. It's is the most Jane's Addiction feeling song that P4P ever put out in my opinion.
@@RestrainingHollywood I saw the P4P show before they did the first Jane's reunion tour. I think it was the first time that Navarro had played live with Perry since. It was noticed on the fan email list and 3 friends and I went. We showed up early and met Flea, Perry, Dave and Stephen out back where they come in. Flea jumped in on conga drums with a kid busking on the street. Word must have gotten out because it was a small club in NYC and all kinds of hollywood and music people in the mostly standing room venue. They did some P4P and some Jane's songs. When they played "Then She Did" with Dave on acoustic, he broke down crying. It's a powerful song and he must have had a felt a wave of emotion with most of his old band on stage...
I loved Porno for Pyros at Woodstock 94... I think my favorite part is for years after I could find out how a person really felt by playing the show.. on my video tapes.. One guy in particular showed himself when he thought the show was great.. mainly when the girls were making out... but when it was Perry and the Clown... he got up and left... he wasnt the only person I saw with that reaction.. and I understood that they probably should go to any real art shows at all..
Perry also put together a music festival in the late 90's called the Enit Festival, with free vegetarian food, and an even more eclectic bill of artists than Lollapalooza. Lemme see, there were Rabbit In The Moon, Lady Miss Kier, Meat Beat Manifesto, Porno For Pyros obviously, and I can't quite remember the rest. I went to it in Jersey and tripped out.
It's wild that DiStefano was just some random guy Farrell met - that first _PFP_ album is perfection & Navarro is a tough act to follow. Aside from the underrated "Tahitian Moon", _Good God's Urge_ was a weird disappointment in '96 - being slower & more experimental - but it's aged well.
Some random guy who is a looker and can allegedly play the guitar too? I've heard that story several times as well and wouldn't bet my house on that being the truth. I've learned a lot about the industry over the years and have also learned that most of it is fake and so too are their stories about how they get together. I'm sure agents were involved during and before their match made in heaven when the dust of deception clears.
Anybody else see them in L.A. at Scream, before they had a record. Those were great shows. The whole band would get on the floor in front of the stage and play drums on buckets. It was fantastic!

It would go to the top 20 just because of Perry Farrell but compared to Jean's addiction it was a flop to to their debut, in fact by the time that came out they were on the crest of breaking up and didn't even tour much for that album. 🤘
Went to see Porno for Pyros at Trocadero in San Francisco... was great loved it. They made us wait for hours after Cornershop, but when they came on, they rocked. I think Mike Watt was on bass. Looking forward to their new album if they release it...
I was there as well, but it was at Trocadero Transfer, not Slim's. Great show.
@@zekecolgate yes Trocadero that's right changed it.. never got to see Jane's but did see Navarro with the Chilli Peppers at Cow Palace earlier that year and got to see Perry + Steve with PfP
@@glennaldosf I saw Janes at first lollapalooza in Shoreline. So good. Man, we're old! Also saw PfP at the Warfield.
Love this band and so glad to hear they are working on new material. I was at the infamous counterfeit money show.
Heh, only in Florida would someone willingly accept a counterfeit $100 bill for payment at Denny's. Considering it was likely late night/post concert, the server was probably stoned and didn't give a shit!
And of course it wouldn't be a Perry Farrell project without controversial artwork!
I actually discovered these guys before Janes Addiction and both bands are just the best
When i was growing in Poland in 90s PFP was one of my favourite bands, love their show on Woodstock
3:50 Perry Farrel HAS become the old guy doing the duck walk. And punching the other, cooler ducks.
Their first album is one of the best albums ever written. Hands down.
But he came back for like a year or two around 2010 look it up guess he needed money
Yup, and most of the riffs were written around Eric's bass lines.
@@williamjosephdunn5879 Indeed. And the Deconstruction album was great. No question.
I was so lucky to see them last weekend in Rockville man did they impress me. I didn't hear one note of any song until that day. Needless to say I went home and I heard the albums and they're so awesome. Now I want those vinyls.....
I really liked PFP back in the day. I'll check out their new music when it comes out.
Hardcharger & Freeway directed the guys to get JA back together minus Avery.
The opening song to their Woodstock set “new rising sun” might be my all time fav song of anything and every type
One of my favorite groups from the 90s. Awesome video, love this, thanks for putting it together.
I love the idea that people got so mad or uncomfortable they actually got up and left lol 😆
They are NEST FRIENDS!
Nothing happened to Porno for Pyros, I just saw their show an hour ago in Denver.
Very underrated band and singer perry is amazing
Greatest orphans from Jane's Addiction ,one of most important bands in history!!!! 2 albums but how great !!!!
Good God's Urge, my all time summer surfing album.

PFP used to cover My Time from Janes quite often in various live shows
Makes perfect sense. My time incorporated harmonica, and Prono for Pyro's first album incorporated harmonica throughout.
@2:27 That’s not Martyn LeNoble. That’s Billy Morrison playing with The Cult. LeNoble briefly played with The Cult. But that ain’t him in that photo.
I saw Jane’s Addiction on Lollapolooza in 1991. Saw Porno for Pyros in 1993. Both great! It was the end of Jane’s and a new beginning for Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins in Porno for Pyros!
Woodstock "94" the pasty incident lol, loved it.
Just saw PFP a few weeks ago in NYC. They were great!
This channel and Full in Bloom are my go to for anything rock. Thanks for doing these brother. Glad you appreciate good music. We need more young folks like you
Great video as always, you should do the NYC duo Suicide next!
I'd def check that out
They announced this a.m. that they are working on new material!!!!
Got to see them at Lollapalooza. Great band and great music.
It was 100% inspired by the riots, guys I grew up with were also recording at the same studio at the time and had the same producer Matt Hyde, got to meet them after they played a show at the Bomb Factory in Dallas, interesting story lol, very cool guys.
Good video. Small detail: 3rd night of the first PFP tour was rescheduled for funeral, not second. They had 3 nights in Frisko at the Warfield. They played first 2, cancelled 3rd night.
I didn't hate my parents...they were awesome!
I loved Jane's Addiction n The Gift was amazing ..I got The Porno for Pyros cd too .I really liked it .My favorite Jane's song is "Three days",so beautiful..
I respect the Chuck Berry analogy and moving on from past hits and rehashing old tunes.
Then the money gets tight and Jane Says is busted out for all to enjoy$$$$$$
KaChiiing!!! Perry Always about the money , and yoko too..
I think the guy was probably the greatest rock front man of all-time in his heyday, but I've never seen anyone more clueless to their own behavior since.
Just saw Jane's Addiction last night, and while it was an incredible show, I was hoping they would've done some PFP songs.
janes addiction will never do porno songs live. period
Please tell me where I can watch the MTV clip of Perry at 7:18 btw great video man. You did some great research.
Correction: best friends not nest friends
Thanks for this video, i’ve been waiting for this, PFP is one of my favourite bands, i discover this band the last year and changed my life, porno for pyros are the best
Story suggestion: how about how Vincent Furnier legally changed his name to Alice Cooper to avoid paying his former bandmates royalties on future songs released under that name after he went solo.
Smart guy that Alice!
Why should they get royalties on stuff they don't write?
Wtf are you on about?

Interesting story! What a long and winding road it's been.
Love this channel.been a fan for a long time
They released three albums. (Janes Addiction prior to the breakup)
What a damn lineup chili peppers ,primus, fishbone and porno holy shit.
'Pets', 'Packin' 25' & 'Orgasm' are three of the finest songs PF's been involved with...
Cursed female was a classic.
One of only 5 albums I bought on release in 90's. Only Janes addiction similarity is Farrell sang in both groups.
One small correction: Jane's had released three albums prior to their breakup. Their self-titled album on XXX Records, Nothing's Shocking, and Ritual De Lo Habitual.
(Also, you spelled "best friends" as "nest friends" in the video. You might want to fix that.)
I hope they rerelease their self titled debut album on vinyl! I know it’s approaching it’s 30th anniversary
I just paid $80 for the original copy on vinyl. Totally worth it!
@@RestrainingHollywood I paid $2.99 back in the mid 90's, but, vinyl was thought to be dead then. Not so dead now, huh?
It was always hard to embrace Porno for Pyros because I loved Jane's Addiction so much. Over the years I've really grown fond of the first album. God's good urge is pretty good as well. I hope they put out new music
Please do a segment on whatever happened to "Rusted Root". I loved that band. Laugh As The Sun was an awesome album
Pets is a great song. Listening to it always brings me back to a better time.
I moved to the Seattle area in late 1988.. and to Everett in early 89... My neighbor had 'Nothings Shocking' on a cassette and we spent all spring and summer having that in the constant circulation of music thru the house turned into apartments.. I loved the album and the outsideness of Janes... My neighbor and friends all saw Janes in Seattle at a couple of shows I missed because of work..
I missed a weekend of work in 94 when the Woodstock 94 show was shown on MTV... I stayed awake almost the entire weekend, recording the shows on my beta max video machine.. It was so cool. I think I missed about 6 minutes over that weekend and I still have the tapes... but finding a Betamax machine is too expensive if they can be found at all..
Which Seattle show(s) did you go to? The Paramount 1988? The Moore 1989? The Arena 1990?
@@Fakename70 saw Little Feat at the Paramount in 89.... and saw Robben Ford among others at the Moore in the mid 90's... saw John Lee Hooker I cant remember where that was... Never seen a show at the Arena saw McCartney at the Kingdome in 89 and the Who at the Tacoma dome in 89...

2019 me and my band mate driving around the city listening to porno for Pyros . One of the few bands of the past we love and influence us highly
I personally heard Farrell’s say that the name came from him seeing some people looking at a fireworks magazine, at the time he commented that it was “Porno for Pyros”
Perry’s earlier stuff with Psi Com was pretty legit, surprised it wasn’t mentioned here.
First time I watched Jane says I was hooked love it 💓
Love your channel . I always watch your videos to relax before going to sleep .. can you do more punk bands . Circle one , germs , plasmatics ,minutemen . Dead Kennedy’s or Johnny thunders. I saw the gg Allin video you did

Warner Brothers were worried that the Porno For Pyros debut album artwork would be construed as anti-Semitic?! Did they not realize that Perry Farrell - real name Peretz Bernstein - is Jewish?! 🤣
Good video. Lots of questions were answered. 🙂 As for Jane's Addiction, I saw them in 2003 headlining Lollapalooza and they all seemed to get-along really well. Both Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro were pumped, and it showed!! Great show!!
anything on The Jesus Lizard?
Porno's 2 Albums are Magnificent, different from Jane's. Love Jane's Addiction!!!
Great!! Absolutely, great!!
Martin the bassist of P4P didn’t “leave”-who would leave a hit band with lots of money to be laid-he was arrested and in jail, preventing him from participating for an extended period of time. “leave” was the official BS explanation given to the media.
A little about new groups, also in the video. Let us know about new groups !!! ...
Porno For Pyros was the hippie Jane's Addiction. I love it.
Stephen Perkins is a great musician
Porno for Pyros debut album is still my all time favorite "bass" album eventhough Mike Watt played on the album instead of my beloved Eric Avery.
Get the feeling this guy doesn't really do his research well? Jane's Addiction produced 4 albums. The first album was self-titled. A self-portrait of Perris on the cover. Am I missing something? Nothing shocking, ritual to the habitual, Kettle whistle
No, you're right. Also watched this guy cover "What happened to Pavement. He completely omitted Watery Domestic. So yeah, dude doesn't really do his research.
I remember seeing them twice in one weekend in Melbourne in 96
Does anyone else keep seeing blurred out footage for seemingly no reason?
Perry reformed Janes Addiction after disappointing album sales. That’s what really happened ✌️.
