I have seen "X" a million times, as far back as when I was 14 & my big Sister would go up to L.A. & she would (reluctantly) let her 'little Bro' tag along to the all ages shows. BUT!!, I have never seen them at The Troubadour, and tomorrow,...that dream is gonna come true! Can't even wait!! All Hail "X"!
Thrilled to discover this clip. Saw X so many times throughout my life I lost count. Their marriage of punk aesthetic, patriotism and pure L-O-V-E is one of those things that captures your attention when you're young and your heart as you age. And though we age, this music never gets old. Thanks for posting this.
Aww, Dick Clark, he liked them a lot, you can tell. What a great guy and a super duper great band. My Punk+ Band X. Timeless and I want that energy back again, always.
Yup, Dick was always receptive to new sounds. Didn't matter what genre they were in, if it rocked he liked it. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves for introducing music to the world. When this took place you've got to remember it was close to 30 years after he was introducing rock n roll to the and he was still enthusiastic.
If the city of Los Angeles could be personified in a single band, it would definitely be X. A very long list of great bands, musicians, and songwriters have emerged from the city of angels over the years and decades, too many to narrow it down to one single “greatest ever” band, but there’s no question that X has represented everything the city is about, warts and all. To me they *ARE* Los Angeles, like some Raymond Chandler novel come to life and put to music. Long may they reign.
I love X, but never got to see them live. Those who have seen their concerts are lucky. Tomorrow being the 4th of July, you know what I will be listening to before the fireworks!
I became a belated fan of The Blasters by the 1990's ... who, eventually had a connection with X when brother Dave Alvin had left the Blasters in '86 eventually joining X, briefly. Dave then made an album (2 actually) with John Doe and Exene and Jonny Ray Bartel (The Red Devils) as the band The Knitters (by 2005). The older Knitters channeled a country-punk-rock vibe.
I once saw Billy Zoom and John Doe eating breakfast at the Vagabond restaurant in Ventura, CA . They were in town for a show. I was too shy to go over and say hi, though.
Always loved X since I was in high school in the 80’s but never got to see them until July 3 of 2019 and then for the second time last month. If you get a chance to see them live it’s definitely worth it. They put on a great show.
Dick Clark slapping another man's hand away and teaching him how to properly hold and kiss a woman's hand is probably the most bizarre thing they ever had on "American Bandstand." 😂
Saw them on AB twice, four times live in Vancouver. Love Exene’s tiara. How tight and always rocking righteously they always are. Probably the most makeup she ever had on.
Man I miss them! Saw them in Austin Texas a few years ago and they still kick ass! Everything went to shit in America after "whats his name" . They were so right!
I feel like a pint of Martini and Rossi on the rocks right now. It's downright upright to help me to relax whenever I'm feeling inside out and backwards. I invented punkrock ~ I invented aids ~ I invented everything darling ~ I'm the ace of spades ~ bury my heart at wounded knee~ I'll bury my fist in the face of the man~ his hopeless struggle has scoured my last nerve ~ besides he's a level three perve~ c'mon take a walk with me ~ it's time ~ the angels are calling for ~ more senseless crimes~ devil dolls wrapped up in bad dreams with broken arms ~ Sadie Mae cut their hearts out ~ back of the line.~ x12 fade out with a generic guitar scratching that you wish had never been born ♡
Saw these folks in the 80's at the Dinwoodie lounge in Edmonton. Exene was quite pregnant when they did their set. Pretty low key band but had some good tunes.
So: (a) yeah - Dick Clark's thing w/ the audience member/kissing the hand was uber-creepy -- and (b) why in hell couldn't they get a light on Billy Zoom (guitarist) when he was playing and the camera was ON him - and he was in total darkness and impossible to see? Director-malpractice. >;-)
Honestly the internet is mostly used for garbage. Social media bullshit and people posting stupid fuck pictures of their spawn. However the fact you are able to find obscure clips of bands that heavily influenced rock and roll. It makes the internet redeemable.
I can't believe she was in HEART. I heard that barracuda was about how she used to beat the piss out of, not only Jan and Fancy Wilstone but the other limp wristed synth players who were in that band. I think she has given everyone what they deserve. A HEART attack. Hahahahahaha
X was always friendly and vaguely threatening at the same time.

Just saw em' play Alex's Bar in Long Beach and they tore the roof off the joint! STILL bringing the 🔥 fire.. 44yrs later!!

Discovered X when i was 14 years old, saw them live about 15 times, I'm 56 years old now & they're still one of my favorites!
I just saw them again last night! Go see them!! on tour this summer! was an amazing show. Billy played the sax last night!
Aww, Dick Clark, he liked them a lot, you can tell. What a great guy and a super duper great band. My Punk+ Band X. Timeless and I want that energy back again, always.
He taught the entire world.
How to be effemanate Squirrel squirrel gotcha nuts. Did you also enjoy Mork

Best band to ever come out of L.A. Period.
They are awesome but Los Lobos is still my favorite L.A. band
Absolutely!
Los Lobos, Black Flag and the Byrds.
The Blasters
Doors, van halen
"The New World" is such a great song!!!
Saw them at the Roxy this past December, they were soooooo good. Tight and love that harmony.
Yup. Great, truly great👍

Van Halen was a far better representation of TRUE LA. Roth was the beach. Eddie and Alex were the Valley. Michael Anthony was the drunk tourist
Saw them in Nashville about 7 years ago. They were AMAZING!!! Firing on all cylinders!
LOVE X, It reminds me all the fun my friends has in LA in the 80's y 90's.
Saw them in Cleveland early 80s Replacements opened...xhanged my life
Now that is a show
Unique and unforgettable. A band for the ages ❤
Wish we heard all of "True Love pt. 2" That;s some good funk-punk that only X could pull off!!!
I love X, but never got to see them live. Those who have seen their concerts are lucky. Tomorrow being the 4th of July, you know what I will be listening to before the fireworks!
I can't believe they were ever on AB!
Must have been right after the Pistols or Circle Jerks? Ha!
more than once !!! Dick Clark LOVED X !!
@@stevenfitzpatrick5800 He loved Exene!
Damn straight, Boston loved X!

THE BEST!!!

Pride and Joy of the City of Angels and the new album kills.

I saw X with the AVENGERS for free last summer here in SF 😂🎉.
How come no spotlight for Billy Zoom? Other than that real good version.
Billy could really use a spot light
Lighting guy forgot there were two other players!
Man I miss them! Saw them in Austin Texas a few years ago and they still kick ass! Everything went to shit in America after "whats his name" . They were so right!
Could they only afford 2 follow spots? Poor ol Billy pulling all his best moves in the dark....
I started busting up when I read this
I know this album isn't everyone's favorite but i dig it from beginning to end, not a bad song imo..
Boston punk era. Hell yeah.
WTF! Put the spotlight on Billy!
Audience totally deprived of the Billy Zoom Killer Smile.
She's adorable.
Bonebrake does 16th notes on one hand because hes GOOD
Caustic lyrics with a smiling rockabilly great guitarist. Somehow it works.
This is like the coolest band ever, basically.
John Doe had a part in Roadhouse.
I forget how high-toned (and this is not a complaint) they were before Dave Alvin joined and brought his earthy sound.

Who wrote that? ❣️
X on dick clark? I had no idea
Fantastic band
I want to marry Exene as well...or maybe I just want to be her..
I saw them back in 1868 in Jamestown completely naked. They opened up for the Gracejonestown massacre. It was insane.
Was it you or the band that was naked? Confused
What song were they singing in the begining of this video? "skip to my lou my darling...."
True Love Part 2...not sure why they did this one, True Love Part 1 is great compared to this disco experiment (I guess that worked for Blondie)
Day after election day, 2024. Same as it ever was
No,you never force a kiss on a lady,nor anyone
When you or she offer to shake hands, the handshake is all you give
Saw these folks in the 80's at the Dinwoodie lounge in Edmonton. Exene was quite pregnant when they did their set. Pretty low key band but had some good tunes.
I saw them at the Big Game Concert at U.C. Berkeley around the same time. This was in November 1987, about two months before Henry was born.
20 or 30 pounds of potatoes or 20 or 30 beers.
🔥❤️🔥🔥

There's a difference between artists and entertainers
Dick Clark, who never looked like he was more than 40 even when he was like 90.
soooo weird what a bizarre crossover
So: (a) yeah - Dick Clark's thing w/ the audience member/kissing the hand was uber-creepy -- and (b) why in hell couldn't they get a light on Billy Zoom (guitarist) when he was playing and the camera was ON him - and he was in total darkness and impossible to see? Director-malpractice. >;-)

I think Dick has a bit of a crush.
its just a roll of quarters
100%
What’s with the poor lighting? Billy and DJ are in the dark!
Billy 👀
Billy Zoom is terribly Under-Rated.

@@HisboiLRoi Baffling isn't it?
Huh?
Say what?
lmao
Dick Clark sort of comes across as a creep.
Is there anyone creepier and more lame than Dick Clark?
Probably the bands lowest moment.
Their lowest moment would be “Ain’t Love Grand”!
I completely disagree with that, See How We Are is the lowest moment. This is actually good 👍.
