    I ran into a recent Moore/Maker trapper NEW. Nicely made and I
    Like the fact that (Who Ever) Moore/Maker has them produced it’s not in China.
    I got the sheath/box and knife brand new.
    I’m impressed with what looks to be A WELL BUILT slip joint trapper… I’ve gotten away from the newer pocket clip folders from practically everyone… just liking the old school knives more these days. Thanks for informational vid.. well done.

    That’s a great sheath! Mooremaker sells a decent knife although they contract the actual manufacture out to other companies. They don’t make knives in Matador, Tx.

      @@foretell6819Case makes them. W.R. Case and Sons Cutlery, in Bradford, PA. I might get the nice HD leather sheath, but already have Case and Boker Trappers to fit it.

    Nice sheath! I already have a couple similar ones though, one brown basketweave and one in brown and tan from R. Sullivan leather, but the leather on your Ranchlands sheath does look a little thicker.
    They’re meant to mount on the right side of your body with about a 20 degree forward tilt. I already have a large collection of Case and Boker Trappers, so don’t need another Trapper, but that Moore Maker is a very nice version of the Trapper. This is a great daily belt combo, and I also usually carry a SAK in a fifth jeans pocket just for scissors, awl, saw, etc., often along with a locking folding knife like a Spyderco, ZT, or Boker Auto. (It’s good to have options!) Thanks for sharing! 👍

    I see Ranchlands also makes a scout carry Trapper knife sheath you can carry on your left, that’s more useful to me, already have a bunch of stuff on the strong side. Nice design!

    I inherited my dads mooremaker when he passed away and was going through his stuff and found a Moore maker machete and leather sheath. I hate to say it but it’s too expensive to use. A definite family heirloom wall hanger lol.

    They make a really good fixed knife sheath as well.

      Sorry man, probably too late now, but the Trapper only comes in two sizes, the standard (large) and the mini. The OAL of the large closed is 4 1/8” with 3 1/4” blades and that’s what we’ve got here it looks to me. The small is only 3.5” overall length with 2 3/4” blades, and is small enough most carry it loose in the pocket or maybe in a pocket slip; it would be lost in this sheath.
      One nice thing, I have four or five trapper sheaths, but this sheath lets the knife sit deeper than all of them, very secure.

    Good video. That knife ain't made in Texas, but it is USA made. You can call Moore maker yourself to verify. They only make knippers themselves. I got one on my hip now...

    Is that the right way to put the knife or is it backwards??

    • @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo
      @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo Рік тому

      It’s either way you want it, but also depends on how secure it is in the leather. On my slightly thinner leather sheaths of the same exact design I wrapped the knife with Saran Wrap, and soaked the sheath in hot water, then forced the knife down in fat end first, then put a towel and 20 pounds of lead birdshot on it and waited a week. The leather perfectly conformed to the knife, leaving a hollow for the fat butt end of the knife, so when you slide it down it “pops” into place. It won’t do that as well skinny end first IMO. I don’t go skinny end of the Trapper knife in first because it comes out a bit easier and I want it more secure, but with this thicker leather Ranchlands sheath it’s probably locked in there really good.

    What size is this knife?

    • @BarrettHouser
      @BarrettHouser  2 роки тому +1

      Not sure. Ranch lands only offers two sizes when you purchase the sheath

    • @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo
      @E.L.RipleyAtNostromo Рік тому

      It’s the same as a standard Case Trapper (what Ranchlands calls “large”), 4 1/8” overall length, with a 3 1/4” clip blade and 3 1/4” Spey blade, a slip joint design. I see Moore Maker also offers trappers with back lock and liner lock options for more $, but not sure what they have in stock.
      As mentioned in another post, the knives are made by Case in Bradford, PA. They have some unique shields and some unique handle materials, and their blades are all 1095 carbon, while Case models also offer Tru Sharp stainless. I like the white bone one shown here, and might snag one, they still have a few in stock, or one with a unique shield instead.
