From a narrative standpoint, Childe is a parallel / foil for the Traveller and you see their similarities. Able to wield more than one element, opposite color palette in their designs, understand the importance of family to the MC's reason to find their sibling and have deep connections with the Abyss. However, their differences are their ideals, Traveller and Chide will be at odds at each others due their respective alliance.
Childe being morally complex is a more accurate explanation of his character I didn't understand when people labeled him as morally grey by their logic morally dark characters should only be portrayed as one dimensional and not have any moments that make them look human. that's basically being one dimensioned not morally dark
when i saw in ur community poll that u we're gonna talk abt childe, i got super excited and u didn't disappoint i love ur take, tartagiggles is my fav character like ever and one of the reasons i like him is BECAUSE he's a villain. a lot of childe fans say things like "oh he's not a villain!! he's just misunderstood!!" which ngl feels like undermining his character. hes the GOAT because of his moral complexity as u stated.
"Morally complex" really is the perfect way to describe Childe. His loyalty to the Tsaritsa sets him apart from some of the Harbingers, but there’s so much more to him than that. Sure, it’s easy to say Childe caused chaos in Liyue, but he genuinely believed Rex Lapis would step in to protect the city. He thought his plan to get the Gnosis would work without anyone getting hurt. Malicious? Not intentionally. Reckless and overconfident? Absolutely. Plus, let’s not forget that summoning Osial was actually part of Zhongli’s larger plan-but that’s a story for another time. What makes Childe so interesting is how HoYoverse lets him shine in his interactions with other characters. Whether it’s Zhongli, Yoimiya, Xinyan, Neuvillette, or Arlecchino, we get to see different sides of him in each moment. And despite everything that happened in Liyue, he and Zhongli are still friends, which says a lot about his character. Even his relationship with the Traveler is fascinating. I don’t always find the Traveler or their interactions with others all that compelling, but this weird thing they have going with Childe is one if the few I find believable. Both are driven by their love for family, and that shared value could create a level of mutual respect (and even understanding.) Childe’s interest in the Traveler-whether it’s his need for strong opponents or what we see in his Story Quest-adds even more layers to his character. Speaking of his Story Quest, it’s one of the best ones out there. After the events in Liyue, I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about Childe, but his bond with Teucer changed that for me. He’s not just being a protective brother-he’s fighting to preserve Teucer’s innocence. As an older sister, I can’t help but feel for him. Childe really earned my respect.
This is probably one of your best videos. -Thank you for making the distinction between "morally complex" and "morally ambigous". It is an important distinction which isn't often used when discussing villains and one that not many people are aware of (myself included up until this video; so thank you for teaching it to me) -I really like your interpretation of the meaning of Childe's, or should I say Ajax's fall into the Abyss. It's unique and it makes a lot of sense. To add upon this interpretation, Ajax's rise to a harbinger might represent an adult young man finding a job and climbing the corporate ladder to have a higher social standing. This interpretation I have comes from the interaction between him and Arlecchino who talk about them as collegues. Also the two youngest harbingers (as we know so far) trashtalking their older collegues behind their back can be relatable to young workers who don't approve of their older collegues'action but can do little to stop them. -Also I would like to point out that Traveler and Paimon aren't really super chill with Childe, even after his story quest. In the limited event of 2.2 "Labyrinth Warriors", the Traveler, Paimon, Xinyan and an Origami dude enter a dangerous domain. When they realize Tartaglia is there, Paimon wrongly accuses him of being responsible for the trouble created in said domain and while Tartaglia introduces himself to Xinyan, Paimon interrupts him saying to Xinyan that Childe is someone who shows up before bad things happen. The Traveler doesn't say much (as per usual) but as soon as they see his shadow, they are on guard. Even in Fontaine, the Traveler esplicitely states that they want to stay away from what Tartaglia finds interesting; so I'd say that they still have their guard high when he is present.
@@ziephel-6780Rightttt…”they’re so enemies to lovers” no offense but please pick up an actual piece of literature and realize relationships aren’t just 2D romance but complex layers 😭
@@xoxox.o The Traveler is consistent on who they trust and who they don't. Only problem is that their story is so... slow and barely reached anywhere for the past four nations until Natlan.
We know what he does in his down time, he has people he unconditionally loves, and has an interesting question attached: “Who would he choose between the Fatui or his family?” He also has a fun personality and the jiggle physics That’s why we like him
Eh he fits the role of an antagonist as well because of the dynamic with the main character ``a person who actively opposes or is hostile to someone or something; an adversary.``- especially since Childe is treated as a main rival I also have my own take about his abyss falling. While i think it definetely has a lot to do with young boys struggles- i think instead of puberty its toxic mascunilinity and survival Childe had a 180 personality change from before and after abyss- reason being you need to be a warrior to survive in the abyss But most importantly its stated SKIRK bred the chaotic nature of him deep down. He was essentially experiemented(for reasons still unknown) by Skirk and Surtalogi to create a weapon Its also where his dehuminzation comes in and how he sees himself as Tsaritas weapon
What I love about Tartaglia's story quest is that they obviously cannot spoil his lore since he lives in Snezhnaya, the region we will be getting next year and since he's a character released back in v 1.1and is locked behind Fontaine and Snezhnaya archon quests. Also his story quest revolves around an npc (Teucer) just like Venti, Arlecchino, Tighnari, Furina, Neuvillette, Ayato and Nilou. What the former six succeed while the latter two fail as a story is that it either enhances their character a lot since they plausibly can't do it in the archon quest (Childe, Arlecchino), make a compelling story that can show the perspective of the 5 star character (Furina, Neuvillette, Tighnari) or a character that is the direct parallel to the npc (Venti) and the coincidence is that the six good story quests I mentioned is that they didn't spoil their lore until the time is right (only Furina's was revealed in the archon quest). It SHOULD suck like Ayato's and Nilou's, it should be bad cus it's not about their lore. Tighnari's origins are locked behind Cyno's second story quest ffs and the other will be revealed in the endgame. Sure, there's that anime back story of Arlecchino but her Khaenriah origins are not there, but that enhances Arlecchino as someone who is willing to do the most excessive things just for her "children" to be safer even if they are child soldiers in a shady organisation and there's nothing she can do about changing the system much without completely removing the violence and the harsh environment they live in
Gotta be honest, I just HATE characters who unalive others, but tartagila is otherwise I like him, I like MOST of all fatui folks, like Alrecchino is boring for me, Signora is ok, Dottore, GET OU-
I don't like what HoYo makes with the Fatui. They always try to «bleach» villains. The only successful example (more or less) is The Balladeer. For instance, Arlecchino has been got very clunky treatment with stupid plot holes: one example, there was an agent in Inazuma, Efim Snezhevich, who suddenly became one of Crucabena «minions» (after years of her death, in Fontaine Chapter, yet still working on «Arlecchino»). Tartaglia is also an example of bad plot treatment, imho. Especially, funny that Snezhnaya paid for all his fck ups. It's so out of blue that I can only talk about plot holes and bad storytelling once again. It's typical for Genshin: there are bunch of narrators (one more examples here - out of character Lyney's behaviour in Meropid Arc).

I don’t really like childe but as a character he’s so well written so thanks for highlighting him
I hate child idk why girls f@ckibg love child but he is just bad
“Girls” it’s not about gender it’s about character story lore and complex
@Genshintipscozy nah mostly girls are simping for him ( understandable).
His lore I agree is good not as good as others like even keaya
Tbh(and as I mention only 3 minutes in) I don’t really like childe either, but I think he’s objectively really well written.
You’re voice is not clear stop eating words 👍
Bro they have a speech impediment
I agree
