    Paul Hogan basically exploded on the world stage with this film. It was a huge hit. Paul was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for this film, and he also received a Best Actor Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy, and BAFTA nominations for Screenplay and Actor. Linda Kozlowski (Sue) was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe.
    Paul and Linda married in 1990 and divorced in 2014. Together they made 2 more Crocodile Dundee movies and one other film called Almost An Angel.
    Linda has only a handful of film credits, due mainly to the types of roles that she was either offered or would audition for. She felt they weren't challenging and didn't have enough going for them. So after Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (CD3), she retired from acting in 2001. Ironically, she was a graduate of one of the most prestigious drama schools in the world, The Julliard School's Acting Program. That program has only 20 candidates a year, and many are not invited back after each year with 2 year MFA or 4 year BFA programs. She was in the same class as Val Kilmer, Group 10. A list of graduates of the program is beyond impressive, even those who didn't graduate is stellar.

    when Wally picked them up he was pretty much asking Mick in a non-verbal way did he have any sex and i guess Mick wasn't going to kiss and tell

  • @TrentRidley
    @TrentRidley 2 місяці тому +6

    Fun Fact 1: The big finale scene where Mick walks on people's heads and shoulders to get to Sue was inspired by the way Australian sheepdogs run across the backs of sheep when they're all packed tightly together after being herded into their holding pens to await shearing or medical treatments.
    Fun Fact 2: You may have noticed that the signage on Wally's truck read, "Never Never Tours." Never never is another term for outback, usually used to refer to the most remote and inhospitable parts of the outback. Using it in a sentence you might say something like, "I'm heading out into the never never on a camping trip next weekend."
    Fun Fact 3: "Sheila" just means woman or girl. It's not derogatory in and of itself, though just like woman or girl it does at times get used in a derogatory/sexist manner. For example, a girl/woman might have a man tell her she can't do something because, "You're just a sheila," or a man might say to another man something like, "Stop complaining, you sound like a big sheila." But yeah, it's not derogatory unless used in that typically sexist/derogatory way in which the terms "girl" and "woman" sometimes are.
    Fun Fact 4: Today, all Australian native animals are protected by law. There are two species of crocodile in Australia, the smaller freshwater crocodile and the massive (tourist-eating, haha) saltwater crocodile. During the middle of the 20th century they were hunted to near extinction across their Australian range which saw the relevant States and Territories pass legislation to protect them throughout the early and mid 1970's. Since then their numbers have recovered strongly, with an estimated 100 000 freshwater and 100 000 - 200 000 saltwater croc's currently prowling the waterways of the Australian tropics. There are now commercial crocodile farms where croc's are grown and harvested for their skins and meat. A limited number of licenses are issued each year for said farms to collect a quota of eggs from the wild to help restock the farms (some breeding occurs within the farming system also). Similarly, kangaroos and wallabies were extensively hunted across Australia until protected a few decades ago. They were never hunted to the extremely low numbers that croc's were, but since protection their numbers have bounced back to something like pre-hunting levels also. Today there are a limited number of commercial kangaroo hunting licenses issued with set quotas, allowing wild 'roos to be harvested for their meat and fur.

    Dundee's attitude towards the world and people is something that we had decades ago and is what the world needs now to right itself. People need to treat each other better. This movie was perfect!

    • @billparrish4385
      @billparrish4385 2 місяці тому

      We didn't just lose that by accident, but through the very astute efforts of people who divide and corrupt for their own profit -- the advocacy and activist classes. The ones seeking to politicize everything that we used to reach across party lines, or not even notice party lines, to enjoy with each other.
      Unity's bad for business, to these types, and they know just the slick, seductive lines to use to entice people into a victimized, helpless, stressed mentality, with the only 'out' being their ideological prescriptions (i.e., 'lies').
      When we've gone in the past from "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it," to hating and canceling someone, trying to ruin them, for not being 'doctrinally perfect', it's far from conspiracy-mongering to suggest 'follow the money'. Societal upheaval on a scale like what we've seen in just a few decades doesn't just happen.
      How to combat it? Focus on being our best, to ourselves and to each other. Bypass online platforms, get out, and socialize in person. Consider faith, which was the root of all those good old traditional behaviors we've lost.

    About the "Bushman Trick"... A story that happened in my family. During World War II, while my grandfather was in the field, a hawker showed up at my grandmother's house, who was living alone in her house with my mother. She was a very petite but determined woman. My grandfather knew his family was in good hands because we had always owned very well-trained German Shepherd dogs. This dealer was harassing my grandmother and my grandmother threatened to set the dog on him if he didn't leave. He just laughed and promised to "show off" her dog when the opportunity arose and then left. A few months later, he showed up again and surprised my grandmother and my still toddler mother in their kitchen, with the completely inactive dog in tow, trotting behind him as if he were my grandfather. He approached my grandmother and mockingly asked what was wrong with the dog. My grandmother, first turned white as a sheet and then bright red with anger. . She became a fury, grabbed a large kitchen knife and chased him out of the house and chased him out into the street. He never showed up again. The dog was never disobedient again. My grandfather returned shortly after the end of the war after escaping French captivity by jumping into a river while crossing a bridge and he was gone. He just didn't feel like working in a French coal mine...

My wife and I saw it when it came out and it was a blockbuster - very had to get into screenings, as it was so popular. Paul Hogan was a maintenance worker on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and what you see in the film is just him. He was a bit of a joker and his friends encouraged him to go on a local TV talent show in 1970. From that, he appeared on a current affairs show and then had his own comedy show. You didn't mention recognizing Reginald Velljohnson(the limo driver). He is probably best known for "Family Matters" and as Al Powell in "Die Hard." I last saw him in "The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee" a few years ago, in which he and Paul Hogan played versions of themselves.

    The character of Mick/Crocodile Dundee is inspired by a combination of several real people. Who were outback adventures and some really lived with aboriginal tribes.

    I watched this SO MUCH as an Aussie kiddo, and I didn't think it was going to hold up, but ya know what, it did. Sure, there's a few thing we probably wouldn't film now-days, but the comedy still hits. I'm pleasantly surprised. Def have to do the sequel. 👍

    When this movie was made, "I Love Lucy" reruns were on TV several times a day. It would be as if, today, someone said they haven't watched TV in ten years, turns on the set and a "Big Bang Theory" rerun comes on, and they say, "Yep, that's what I saw."

    the end scene where he climbs over people is a reference to, in Australia, when a sheep dog is penned in by a thick heard of sheep in a yard, the sheep dog will jump onto a sheep and run across the sheeps backs to get where the farmer wants him...

    A lot of people miss the fact that Mick walking over the heads of the crowd is a reference to the popular image of Australian sheep station workers (and their dogs) walking across the backs of thousands of tightly penned sheep.

    Mic's walking on people's heads in the subway comes from sheep dogs in Australia when herding sheep - to get from one end of the flock to the other they jump on the sheeps' backs and run across them to get where they want to be.

    Back of the skull is a vunerable spot on a crocodile. Some big cats (Jaguars/Panthers) have learned they can instantly kill with one bite in the right spot. Not sure but I believe Jaguars hunt Caymens.

      Every animal with a spinal cord has that weak spot. It's the connection of the brain and the spinal cord. If you sever the spinal cord from the brain, it kills the animal instantly.

    "Never never" has a meaning thats hard to translate for non-Australians but it, basically, refers to a place where no-one is where you go for spiritual reasons - although a lot of people just mistake it for the outback. So Mick Dundee mocking "Never Never Tours" as meaning "never go out with us or you'll never come back' is very funny. But its a joke most foreigners will miss and even the newer generations of Australians, who werent raised on the old stories, will likely miss that.
    And, just to be clear, if you see a water buffalo in Australia, DONT try to hypnotise it, because it will probably kill you. It may surprise you to know that quite a bit of your burger meat comes from these guys.

    My Great Grandma T had her neighbors bull convinced she was bigger than him. She was maybe 4’10” and used a hunk of wood as a walking stick. My mom told me that one day a group of guys couldn’t get the bull in a trailer for a vet visit, so the neighbor had to ask my great grandma for help… she walked over, grabbed its nose ring, looked it in the eyes, and dragged it to the trailer. She was an intense lady. I remember being only 8 or 9 the first time I walked through the bull’s pen … her chicken coup was through a couple gates. Even though that bull would on the far side, I hated it! But my gg T would tell me to stop whining and get it done 😳 … so yeah, I kinda believe someone could do that to bull.
