I honestly think jk Rowling contradicted herself on this point cause she says albus and gellert are more or less equal in power but yet she called Voldemort the most powerful dark wizard. If it was true Voldemort was more powerful than Grindelwald he would in turn be as powerful if not more than dumbeldore which really isn’t true also Grindelwald conquered more land. I love the Harry Potter and fantastic beasts franchise but Rowling contradicted herself on this.

Power isn’t everything in a wand duel but skill with a wand is, even if Voldemort is more powerful he isn’t nearly as skilled Voldemort is a hammer while Grindelwald is a quick sword Grindelwald is a far better duellist if Voldemort had no horcrux’s there would be more people capable of defeating him when enraged Voldemort is predictable, but gellert remains calm throughout a fight and that makes him harder to read.

In the books, Dumbledore completely controlled the fight he had with Voldemort in the ministry. When Dumbledore and Grindelwald fought, it was said to be among the greatest wizarding duels in history and lasted a full day…. and Dumbledore was in his prime. That says all you need to know
Does it? What about the most powerful Magic wand ever made? Grindelwald had that in his fight with Dumbledore and he still lost. While Voldemort was facing a Dumbledore who was WIELDING such wand. I don't think it's that simple.
@@DeadlyNifesorry. I didn't understand your comment that well. but well: it's not that simple but not the way you think. yes Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald with the Elder Wand and lost, but it wasn't such an easy fight after all it wouldn't be considered the greatest fight of all time if Dumbledore had won so easily. One thing that some people don't understand is that the wand doesn't make its owner invincible it """just""" channels magic at a much higher level. Dumbledore had difficulties (great difficulties) against Grindelwald in his prime while Voldemort faced him as an old man, and it is worth remembering that Dumbledore could have killed him at any time but he did not because he knew it would be useless and he would come back later somehow. Voldemort: are you trying to kill me? Dumbledore: I have no interest in your death (at the moment anyway) and of course many wizards who don't even have to be Dumbledore have faced Voldemort and come out alive. lilian and Thiago did this 3 times and came out unharmed all 3 times. imagine grindewald in his prime that only dumbledore could face would do to the tone?
That’s only because Grindelwald had by then already repented of his past actions, had nothing left to lose, and accepted death. That doesn’t mean he cold have taken Voldemort in a fight. If Voldemort was about to kill Grindelwald in his prime, when Grindelwald had all these resources and all these goals and aspirations that he wanted to achieve, then he be much more afraid of being killed by Voldemort.
@kyoichishido4913 Calling someone a kiddo with laughing emoji's just makes you look childish, which is ironic because you're the one calling greaterscope the kid. I'm more likely to believe Greaterscope for the fact that you're trying to belittle him rather then actually trying to have a reason otherwise.
I dont think grindelwal is afraid of voldemort because if he is on his prime he would kill voldemort without blinking his eye ( thats if voldemort didnt have horcrox) and grindelwals subordinates are loyal to enough to sacrifice their life for him unlike voldemorts subordinates that work for their fear for him (Bella and robert jr are just mentlly ill)
We can't compare someone who went toe-to-toe with prime Albus freaking Dumbledore for an entire day to someone who couldn't outpower a 126-year old weakened Dumbledore. Grindelwald nearly conquered Europe, Voldemort lost to a high school.
So Grindelwald loved Albus, as in love love, so i can imagine their fight not really be that hatred filled and with murderer intentions (which is crucial for attacking spells/curses). A 126 dumbledore with elder wand equals a kid with an AK 47 against a tiger with smooth edged claws. Grindelwald was a mesmerizing politician on top of his raw power (hitler type). Voldie lost to Lily many moons ago so he just can't beat plot writing, everything else he can. Harry should have died multiples times throughout the series, but didn't solely due to Lily's charm and plot. Grindelwald is harder to blame plot writing to his demise, given the equal stand with Dumbledore and overall emotional content. Grindelwand was human in nature, even feeling resentment, while Tom, without any feelings, had that extra edge of raw power, and therefore, real world menace.
Albus wasn't 'weaker' due to age. Wizards don't work that way. If anything he would be stronger, more time to hone his skill's and learn more magic after all.
Why would a younger, lest experience version of Dumbledore be weaker than an older version of himself that got more time to practice?it’s not like Dumbledore or Voldemort are punching each other. Dumbledore is stronger as he got older.

He couldve easily killed them. The reason he ran is because he was keeping his reincarnation secret, and because Cornelius Fudge was so scared of him that altough he knew he was 100% back, he just tried to think that hes not. Voldemort managed to stay a secret two years, until he was finally found out and decided not to fight.
grindelwald just fought with fodder aurors + newt and still got restrained at the end. Voldemort was throwing hands with the most powerful wizard in history when the aurors came to support dumbledore, AND he wanted to keep his return a secret. He'd need to be a geniune idiot to not run away in that situation.
I thought about some odd theory about who is the most powerful dark wizard of all time. J.K Rowling claims that Voldemort is the most powerful dark wizard, and I think that's true. But what if we claim that Grindelwald wasn't actually a dark wizard? He wasn't about vicious killing people, robbing them, and he wasn't trying to become a tyrant. It was in Voldemort's nature to do that things, instead Grindelwald had a much more meaningful purpose. He was about to share his idea and to actually free wizards from being hidden from muggols. We cannot neglect that Grindelwald actions killed many people, but it wasn't about killing, it was about proving a point, making his ideas come true. Dark wizards were about dominating other wizards with their power, Grindelwald was about creating some sort of new peace. That's why I consider Grindelwald the most powerful wizard of all time next to Dumbledore because of his abilities, unquestionable huge amount of knowledge, genius tactical mind and ability of manipulation and to convince other people, but Voldemort was the most powerful dark wizard because of his magical potential, abilities, and mostly the fear which he was generating. Grindelwald wasn't so feared as Voldemort, because he didn't even tried to be such a person, but Voldemort? For sure, he made even his name something that was feared, he achieved what every dark wizard before him would love to get. In conclusion I would consider Grindelwald and Dumbledore on the first place, and right beneath them there would be Voldemort, because even if he had such a great power, he still lacked everything that Dumbledore and Grindelwald had, i mean: knowledge, charisma, more sophisticated purposes than just killing people etc.
I wouldn’t consider grindlewald evil tbh did he have a flawed mind but he never was Voldemort evil like when it came down he played fair he in most duels
Merlin a former Slitherin student is the greatest and stronguest Wizard of all time, he didn't even needed the Wand of Wands to trash Grindewald or Dumbledore on a 1v1. There is also the 4 creators of Hogwarts, other wizards from other magic schools that aren't even known about. We have our focus entirely on the main story and don't see other points of view. But there are things that are sure: 1-Voldemort is the most feared.dark wizard of all time and top 1 or 2 of the stronguest alongside Grindewald. 2- the 4 creators of Hogwarts were the 4 stronguest wizards of their time (at least on Europe) 3- Dumbledore was the stronguest wizard for over 50 years. 4- Merlin is said to be the greatest ever and hence his name is given to an order.of.extremly powerful and important wizard. Sadly we don't know too much about the great wizards of other magic schools just a few. Particularly the african school that seems extremly powerful
While Voldemort is more powerful. Grindelwald is still the scariest. He made the ENTIRE world fear him. And his followers were truly loyal till the end. Most of the Death Eaters stayed with Voldermort out of fear they wouldn't die for him like Grindelwalds followers would.

Grindelwald was about 116 years old at the time of his death and Voldermort was only about 70 years old which is sad since he devoted his life to living forever.
Дамблдор в битве с Гриндевальдом был на пике своих сил, в их расцвете. А при Волан-де-Морте он был уже весьма стар и более слаб, чем в молодости. Так что Гриндевальд явно сильнее

Old Dumbledore, in the books, destroy Voldy when they fight in the Ministry. I Think Grindelwald is stronger in power, but Voldy has is soul split in seven parts. By the way, Grindelwald fought Dumbeldore in his prime. Big difference.
You need to go read that book again. Voldemort had Dumbledore dead if Fawkes hadn't jumped in front of the killing curse that he couldn't defend against.
Voldemort isn't actually necessarily more powerful. The books only describe him as being the "greatest dark wizard", sometimes specifically referring to the UK alone. And it's an epithet which could be referring to the extent of his depravity; he was, after all, fine with killing babies and doing god knows what to achieve power. Even if it does refer to power, that's pretty much a non-point. Dumbledore, Grindelwald and Voldemort are all in such a high realm of power that the difference would be negligible. What counts most at that level is duelling skill. In the last book, Dumbledore states the reason he won was because he was a "shade more *skilled*" than Grindelwald, implying it was a very tight duel. Indeed, onlookers described it as one of the greatest duels in history. By contrast, Dumbledore vs. Voldemort in the books is (mostly) in Dumbledore's favour, and finishes with Dumbledore's victory, because it states that Voldemort "decided to flee". And that's with Dumbledore being around 114 years old, and having to protect Harry and restrain Bellatrix at the same time. Grindelwald was able to take on Dumbledore in his prime, without any known distractions dividing his attention.
Because Hogwarts was protected by Albus fucking Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. If you watch MovieFlame's video on top 20 strongest wizards dumbledore is #1. ALthough this is fanmade MovieFlame is the biggest Potterhead I know. The other reason voldemort couldn't take down hogwarts is cause it had many protective enchantments. Plus, Harry is one OF the most strongest wizards because he killed Voldemort and got rid of all 7 horcruxes INCLUDING himself. Harry didn't fear death and tha sacrifical protection he applied by his friends when he supposedly protected Hogwarts by coming to the Forbidden Forest to kill himself like Voldemort asked. That sacrifical protection put protection of himself + Hogwarts. Clearly, you didn't read the books or watch the movies. I know this is 'Voldemort was the most feared wizard in history in the 1990s but he couldn't take down a highschool' thing is a joke, I just wanted to explain WHY Voldemort is more powerful. Don't take this personally or take any offense please.
Durability to Voldemort Iq to Grindelwald Battle iq is arguable but I’d say Grindelwald. Voldemort had a lot of book smarts, but wasn’t actually that smart and lost in the end because of his blindness.
People compare him to Grindelwald in movies. I preferer Voldemort for the most part. The movies showed him in some ways more powerful than in books. He is more intelligent in most ways, used more powerful magic, invented his own spells, finished Hogwards, never been captured ànd managed to avoid defeat from the hands of Dumbledore despite the latter having the elder wand. Voldemort was in his 70s during second Wizarding war. Grindelwald was defeated in his 50s. Tom Riddle hid his crimes way better as a student and didn't get expelled compare to Grindelwald. Wisdom, divination and magical knowledge go to Grindelwald. Grindelwald was able to shield his mind from Voldemort later in life, despite being imprisoned for over 50 years, knew more about the world and could see the future to some extent. Voldemort failed to properly intercept the prophesy, and got confused over the ownership of the Elder Wand. Due to him being a seer, Grindelwald can be aware of certain things ahead of the time, as well as having a greater intuition and perception. "There is so, so much you do not understand," Grindelwald told him in books. I am 1000% sure he knew Voldemort's horcruxes. Grindelwald choose to be for the people, rather than for himself. I am pretty sure Grindelwald choose Hallows over Horcruxes, mainly because he never sought immortality, and wasn't like Voldemort. Grindelwald definitely knew about this piece of dark magic, and what it does to a person, but never pursued it; he wanted to enjoy life... Grindelwald was the most powerful dark wizard before Voldemort, but I have a feeling that he peaked magically by his own desire, not by talent limitations, since books don't say much about him. Voldemort is more powerful, both in books and movies, due to him being the main antagonist. The Dark Lord is very underrated here on UA-cam. Some statements about him in books: The greatest dark wizard of all time COS The most feared dark Wizard for a hundred years POA The most powerful dark wizard in a century GOF The most powerful dark wizard of all time HBP The most dangerous dark wizard of all time HBP #1 on the list of most dangerous dark wizards of all time DH The most powerful dark wizard of all time Pottermore. Also on screen, Voldy performs more advanced magic. Black smoke out of his manuers, flying, his multiple ways of apparating and dissaparating, surviving water orb, destroying windows in the ministry and knocking Dumbledore out, not being hurt by glass in the ministry, how he possessed Harry and then became invisible, dissiparating out of ministry, surviving electricity shock while flying in Deathly Hallows 1, destroying the protective shield around Hogwards, getting into multiple wizards' minds at once. As far as we can tell, Grindelwald doesn't actually posses Legilemecy in movies, since he needed help from Quinee. Speaking of the shield around Hogwards, that is the most powerful feat of any wizard in movies. ( Voldy doesn't actually say a spell and him not even being the true master of the Elder Wand. Not to mention all of the protective charms that were placed, both by the Harry’s allies and the four Hogwards' founders. That was the nuke of all spells.) Grindelwald feats of magic that impressed me were healing Credence, showing his vision of the future and controlling the blue fire circle inside before it he let it out. ( Protego diabolica of course. The most powerful part about it was controlling it when it was circling around right before he dissaparated and unleased the fiendfire.) Books never give us enough about Grindelwald's magical accomplishments. But overall, we could say that Grindelwald is the most powerful entity in HP universe due to his massive following. Politically, he is the most successful person in HP for sure. In all out war, he could win against Voldemort or Dumbledore really. If it came to down to the overall war between the two, ( in their prime) I believe Grindelwald would have gone a great job hunting for Horcruxes completely by himself even better than Dumbledore, due to having access to his own precognition, skills in black magic, overall knowledge and other intuitive abilities of his own. Just by looking at Voldemort and knowing how his name translates to French, it will be obvious to Grindelwald. Oh, thanks for all the likes!
If voldemort had IQ, he wouldn't waste his lifetime worrying about horcrux all the time cuz without any dark magic Dumbledore lived more than voldemort. And Grindelwald never waste his lifetime, he was focused on the development (Now i remember a dialogue from POC " it's not important how long you live ,but the history needs to speak about you") its not the exact words cuz i saw the film in dubbed version
True. Plus if Voldemort had IQ he would have just polyjuiced into a student at Hogwarts and killed an unsuspecting Dumbledore or Harry in a corridor or at the start of the year feast in the great hall but nah he chose the difficult way out.
Grindelwald only wins because we have better cgi today that can showcase his magical abilities. If they make a movie about Voldemort and the first wizarding war today, we will see how truly powerful he is.

I feel like durability goes to Voldemort simply because of the horcruxes. Ability to take literally any curse/spell/injury and come back… eventually. Also sheer power. I think Grindelwald still wins though.
Imagine if Dumbledore continued down the "Greater Good" path and became a world dominator. He was the only one that could have done it successfully, yet he chose the good side. Having a horcrux in fawks is overpowered. Elder wand allegiance. A masterfully brilliant wizard combined with massive power is what makes a truly terrifying villain. But yeah, grindelwald is better than voldemort.
I know in the books, they say Tom was more powerful, but I always found that hard to believe, especially now that we've seen Grindelwald in action. Grindelwald didn't need to remind everyone he had power, it was easy to see that he was Dumbledores nearpeer, not always thinking with his wand, but instead being able to charm anyone into joining him, including A LITERAL MIND READER. Voldemort meanwhile, just seemed like the insecure head of a fraternity that lasted to long in comparison. Also, Grindelwald didn't have to use a made up name to make up for his daddy issues

Lets be honest here, the *"GREAT"* wizarding war sounds more better than the second wizarding war. Grindelwald made both the Ministries of Magic of the US and Britain tremble in fear. Grindelwald had way too much power in his prime with followers globally, his massive army could easily smash the death eaters multiplied by x10 While granted that Death Eaters have shown more skill, the followers of Grindelwald would outnumber each normal death eater 3 to 1, making them impossible to counter with Voldemort's numbers I don't know why durability was given to Grindelwald instead of Voldemort but I am pretty sure the creator thought of this in how hard it was to defeat the two men, Voldemort could be defeated in duels pretty easily by EXTREMELY powerful wizards like Dumbledore but even Dumbledore had trouble with Grindelwald.
Lol that’s so not true grindelwald made the English and British ministry tremble in fear?😂 A guy who wasn’t even associated with the ministry took grindelwald down. Meanwhile dumbledore knew he couldn’t kill voldemort since he couldn’t get all the horcruxes on his own.
@@OtterVR628 Yeah that "guy" was the most powerful wizard in the world lol. Even if Dumbledore wanted to "kill Voldemort" he can't because that goes against his morals. Voldemort knows that so hes not gonna bother if he gets defeated by Dumbledore in a setpiece duel.
Grindelwald is like a universal genius or more correctly, a polymath. Knows too much about lots of things, not being a master in one specific subject but knowing far beyond the average knowledge. Voldemort is just like a specialized genius. He know too much about a few things. In a battle, both would be too tight but I think a polymath ends up winning. Not all the battles, tho. I think if they fight 100 times, the scorer would be something like 48-52.
If Grindelwald would want to kill baby Harry, because of his vast knowledge he definitely would found a way even after Harry's mother magical protection. Voldy, by those days, simply knew to throw Avadas here and there.
To everyone who says "Grindelwald lost to dumbledore with the Elder Wand though": he didn't actually lose. He just couldn't go against Dumbledore with full ambition because the two used to be a couple and he still had feelings for Dumbledore.
For the people who say Voldemort should win, i don't really think so. They both were really powerful wizards, but a really big difference between them is that Grindelwald excepted his defeat. He didn't rule as much like Voldemort, he was there a shorter amount of time, while the Dark Lord was there YEARS. Experience is important, but cause Gellert ruled less then Voldemort that doesn't mean he's weeker I'm kinda sure if Gellert Grindelwald didn't accept his defeat Voldemort wouldn't even be a thing
How are you so sure about the last part? Voldemort had a twisted mind before he even knew Grindelwald existed. He didn't have any recollection of Love as his mother tricked the boy she loved with a love potion, and in this period, Voldemorts mother became pregnant with Tom. She thought that all this time the muggle she was in love with trully fell in love with her, but she was wrong. And when the love potion ran out he confronted her and left her along with the child. Voldemort cannot feel love, thus why he became like this. Im pretty sure if Gellert Grindelwald wouldn't of accepted his defeat, they we're most likely going to join forces, as both believed Wizard-kind is superior to human-kind.
Voldemort created an army of inferi somthing both Grindlewald and Dumbledore thot was impossible to even create one of. He also was stated to be the greatest in both legilimency and occlimency the world had ever seen, so he could probably just destroy Grindlewald's mind before or read his thoughts. He was also the first Wizard to break the laws of physics and fly without any means of transportation, and he was stated to be the greatest dark lord to have ever lived.
When Dumbledore was old means during the time period of voldemort's reign he was afraid to conduct a ceremony of dark wizards at the time when there was light but Grindelwald just casually summons all the dark wizards with him during Dumbledore's prime and voldemort's army was much impressive than Grindelwald's people i strongly believe Grindelwald is stronger than voldemort with or without the elder wand but i can also give out the argument of Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald while he had the elder wand but he kinda struggled against voldemort in the movies but in the books it's a different scenario You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?' called Voldemort, his scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. 'Above such brutality, are you?' 'We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom,' Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk towards Voldemort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. “Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit -' 'There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!' snarled Voldemort. 'You are quite wrong,' said Dumbledore, still closing in upon Voldemort and speaking as lightly as though they were discussing the matter over drinks. 'Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness'
u kind of miss the point friend! durable means they can withstand downfalls or avoid them! no one could practically lay a hand on grindelwald except albus! calculate the odds dude! albus feared facing him and soo he could terrorize almost whole europe! while in case of voldy, anyone who would know of his horcruxes and had brains or manpower would be able to destroy voldy, they wouldn't need exceptional wizard, his odds are much higher, calculate the probability bruhh!!!
Dumbledore vs. grindelwald in the book was the most epic wizard duels ever. Dumbledore was prime. His duel with voldemort he made light work in movie and book. Grindelwald all day
Voldemort is said to be the strongest dark wizard of his time, but that only counts for the British wizards honestly. Voldemort achieved nothing, outside of Britain, whereas Grindelwald obviously did. You also have to consider, that voldemort, was somewhere equal or only a bit superior to Dumbledore. He didn’t kill him and all of their fights or exchanges and whatsoever, there was never a clear victory for voldemort. While dumbledore had the elder wand, he was way past his prime, way past it. Too many contradictions, but the fact remains, voldemort achieved nothing, except for starting and losing a civil war. Grindelwald obviously also started a war and also lost it, but while voldemort only fought in Britain, grindelwald walked around Europe… If you actually watched grindelwald’s fighting scenes or read about them, then you would consider him stronger. He had a shield, able to block the killing curse and his blue flames had to be stopped by the combined power of 40 Aurors. Grindelwald was pretty much a one man army. Would be awesome to see voldemort feats during the first war, where most probably his “full power” would have been showcased, where he obviously was very feared etc… I mean, did we ever see his real power? The guy died, due to a mistake with his wand, not because Harry Potter was more powerful, which is kinda sad
Attack potency gets Voldemort he use more avada kedavra and only way to protect from that spell is having elder wand or same wand but grinderwald stomps
If Rowling said grinderwald was more or less equal to dumbledore, it already says he is more powerful than voldemort or at least almost equal him in full power, so the list should be: 1) voldemort 2) grinderwald 3) dumbledore

@@grahamhill676 How do we know that that was Dumbledore's Prime? Wizards can live up to 200 years old, and Dumbledore was around 116 in OotP. He had MUCH more experience and the Elder Wand.
Voldemort was able to fight Albus dumbledore whilst Albus had the elder wand. If Voldemort had truly owned the elder wand, he would’ve been unstoppable. He is the heir to Salazar Slytherin. There was a time, in his prime, when he had a fully grown basilisk, 6 horcruxes and a powerful wizard army that controlled the government (ministry of magic). Gellert struggles to fight the system, it ends in all out war as people were willing to fight the fanatic. People were less inclined to fight the psychopathic Voldemort. He killed without reason or sympathy, including babies just like gellerts worst feat seen on film surely. Realistically, grindelwald and Voldemort have the same goal, to stomp on muggles, but Voldemort got much much further, had much purer magical blood, was incredibly intelligent and manipulative even as a boy, and as a parseltongue with the basilisk he was essentially a much scarier grindelwald. Even dumbledore said so, many times. -“Did you know sir” -“Did I know then, that I’d just met the most powerful dark wizard of all time? No, if I had I might’ve….”
IQ definitely doesn't go to Voldemort. Voldemort had no plan--he was all carnal, impulsive and desire driven (his mind was subservient to his wants). Grindelwald created a global movement.
This man Grindelwald was MUCH more of a problem when he was alive than I thought. I’d heard about him, but dude is TERRIFYINGLY skilled and calculated.
I’m sorry but Voldemort wins. Grindlewald lost to dumbledore with the elder wand while Voldemort was on par with dumbledore while dumbledore had the elder wand
I dont ever remember Voldemort being on par with Dumbledore besides injuring his hand. Also Dumbledore was towards the end of his life when he dueled Voldemort and was only trying to buy Harry time from what I recall. Grindlewald gave Dumbledore the closest fight of his life while both were in their prime
@@panther6961 dumbledore was trying to save Harry not buy him time. And Voldemort was in his prime during the first wizarding war when some of his horcruxes wasn’t destroyed
Dumbledore was not fighting voldemort with the intention of killing. He was only buying time and in the books Dumbledore was easily in control of the fight unlike the movie where both were made equal. Voldemort feared Dumbledore whereas Grindelwald was Dumbledore's equal.
@@johnhw398 Yeah Grindelwald had the elder wand for most of his life and he was it s true owner, so when I speak of Grindelwald I am including the fact that he owns the elder wand bcuz the elder wand is rightfully his
While Grindelwald had no wand. Voldemort is a coward. Even in the books Voldemort could not overpower Dumbledore. Dumbledore and Grindelwald are the strongest period. Voldemort is a powerful DARK wizard. That's it. Voldemort would be dead on his feet again if he managed the courage to fight Grindelwald 1v1
@johnroberts1849 I'll concede that Grindelwald was a more powerful spellcaster, but Dumbledore himself refers to Voldemort as "the most dangerous Dark wizard of all time". How is Grindelwald not a dark wizard? He definitely is. Voldemort's capacity for evil was higher due to his reckless nature and partial immunity. Grindelwald was more skilled and cunning. I think that's as far as I can concede.
@@christianpurvis2830 I'm not saying Grindelwald is not a dark wizard... I'm saying the the sequel sucks compared to the original. Dumbledore and Grindelwald called him Tom. Hence why he's not as dark as Tom Riddle Jr. Grindelwald is Dumbledore's equal. He acknowledges this in a humble manner in the books.
Gellert slaps that bald with his nose missing, Voldemort even struggles to fight Dumbledore at his old age while Grindelwald can fight Albus for days even stated that he and Albus is almost identically equal
Actually grindlewald admits Voldemort is stronger when he went to him while he was locked away in the tower to ask about the elder wand. Voldmeort didn't lose his duel with Dumbledore, it was cut short. He knew the Aurors were on their way and wanted to avoid being discovered. At that time, the ministry was still denying that Voldemort had returned, which gave him a strategic advantage. That duel very well could have lasted an entire day if the circumstances were different.
In the harry potter universe, a wizards main strength is based on how much 'magic' they could produce. Hence why some wizards were nuts about blood purity (because they thought it produced stronger wizards, which it didnt) This also led to having some wizards being considered 'talented' because they could draw out alot of magic, that produced extremely potent, and powerful spells. Good examples of talented wizards are: - Founders of hogwarts - Dumbledor - voldemort - grindlewald - Harry - merlin etc In the books, Harry and Voldemort had the same talent in producing magic, but had different potencies in magic simply down to technique in casting, and practice. Grindlewald was slightly more talented than Dumbledor, but dumbledor focussed more on perfecting technique rather than learning alot of spells (like grindlewald). If you were to rank the four in terms of talent in producing magic it would probably go: 1. Voldemort / Harry (the same) 2. Grindlewald (only slightly less than voldemort and Harry, but remember he had the elder wand which focussed his magic into a more potent form) 3. Dumbledor (remember he struggled against voldemort in order of the phoenix, and he had the elder wand) Then ranking the technique: 1. Dumbledor 2. Grindlewald 3. Harry 4. Voldemort (he never really bothered in practicing spells he didnt think he needed, very arrogant) Then ranking diversity of spells: 1. Grindlewald 2. Dumbledor 3. Voldemort 4. Harry (simply because he is young, and never really learnt spells outside of the corriculum)

Old and defenseless grindelwald wasn't afraid of voldemort anyway, he just laughed in his face!
That’s only because Grindelwald had by then already repented of his past actions, had nothing left to lose, and accepted death. That doesn’t mean he cold have taken Voldemort in a fight.

In conclusion
I would consider Grindelwald and Dumbledore on the first place, and right beneath them there would be Voldemort, because even if he had such a great power, he still lacked everything that Dumbledore and Grindelwald had, i mean: knowledge, charisma, more sophisticated purposes than just killing people etc.
I wouldn’t consider grindlewald evil tbh did he have a flawed mind but he never was Voldemort evil like when it came down he played fair he in most duels

@@voldemort008true but I think he just got a bit cocky and let his guard slip
Grindelwald literally almost took over the entire wizarding world. Voldemort couldn’t beat Hogwarts
Durability to Voldemort
Iq to Grindelwald
Battle iq is arguable but I’d say Grindelwald.
Voldemort had a lot of book smarts, but wasn’t actually that smart and lost in the end because of his blindness.
True
Some statements about him in books:
The greatest dark wizard of all time COS
The most feared dark Wizard for a hundred years POA
The most powerful dark wizard in a century GOF
The most powerful dark wizard of all time HBP
The most dangerous dark wizard of all time HBP
#1 on the list of most dangerous dark wizards of all time DH

That was the nuke of all spells.)
Grindelwald feats of magic that impressed me were healing Credence, showing his vision of the future and controlling the blue fire circle inside before it he let it out. ( Protego diabolica of course. The most powerful part about it was controlling it when it was circling around right before he dissaparated and unleased the fiendfire.)
Books never give us enough about Grindelwald's magical accomplishments.

Grindelwald was most powerful villain in wizarding world, he comes after dumbledore
Grindelwald only wins because we have better cgi today that can showcase his magical abilities. If they make a movie about Voldemort and the first wizarding war today, we will see how truly powerful he is.

Voldemort has the hocruxes meaning he's basically "unkillable".
Grindelwald has more magical talent and knowledge but fighting voldemort is like fighting someone with maxed out durability
That shit decreases durability imo
Grindewald got killed by voldemort lmao
No, Voldemort's magic actually deserves more recognition. One example : the despair potion and the whole cave defense system he created requires a lot of delicate and old magic, that dumbledore himself couldn't undo. The potion is extremely powerful and it's all Voldy's creation
@@MaLexTIdE Voldemort kills an old, depowered mocking Grindelwald. Not truly a great feat. Plus, Voldemort, an accomplished Legimens was unable to get the location of the Elder Wand from Grindelwald.
No. Voldemort doesn't keep his hocruxes all in one spot. So, if you kill him, he retreats to the next horocrux after having lost each time he's defeated. Grindelwald can just kill Voldemort however many times he has hocruxes.
I would also like to award a point to Grindelwald for knowing the power of love unlike voldy
Voldy is stated to be the most powerful dark wizard, depp feels more intimating but Voldy is stronger
I know it’s hard for you softies to understand. Voldemort had followers around the world . Persuaded dementors , killed over millions , was basically un stoppable thanks to the horxrucxs, no one can speak his name . Was a powerful leginamist . And no he didn’t want to take over a a school . That wasn’t his plan . And not daddy issues he barely even knew his father .
Crimes of Grindelwald is actually such an underrated film. It is a super atmospheric and visually interesting picture.
No, Perhaps it is overlooked that Voldemort succeeds, despite even bringing his physical and spiritual essence to collapse, dividing into 7 parts, a monstrous power. Imagine without how much energy he would have released.
There Is reason why He called the dark lord
And everyone fear just by saying His name

Lets be honest here, the *"GREAT"* wizarding war sounds more better than the second wizarding war. Grindelwald made both the Ministries of Magic of the US and Britain tremble in fear.
Grindelwald had way too much power in his prime with followers globally, his massive army could easily smash the death eaters multiplied by x10
While granted that Death Eaters have shown more skill, the followers of Grindelwald would outnumber each normal death eater 3 to 1, making them impossible to counter with Voldemort's numbers
I don't know why durability was given to Grindelwald instead of Voldemort but I am pretty sure the creator thought of this in how hard it was to defeat the two men, Voldemort could be defeated in duels pretty easily by EXTREMELY powerful wizards like Dumbledore but even Dumbledore had trouble with Grindelwald.
Not true jk Rowling said that Harry’s love protection would last forever.
Experience is important, but cause Gellert ruled less then Voldemort that doesn't mean he's weeker
I'm kinda sure if Gellert Grindelwald didn't accept his defeat Voldemort wouldn't even be a thing
Grindelwald is more powerful than voldy cuz he's got nose...No cap
Voldemort created an army of inferi somthing both Grindlewald and Dumbledore thot was impossible to even create one of. He also was stated to be the greatest in both legilimency and occlimency the world had ever seen, so he could probably just destroy Grindlewald's mind before or read his thoughts. He was also the first Wizard to break the laws of physics and fly without any means of transportation, and he was stated to be the greatest dark lord to have ever lived.
Voldemort is weirder. I mean even his looks. 👌
Lo que lo detiene al Voldemort es su miedo a morir y Grindelwald no lo tiene
When Dumbledore was old means during the time period of voldemort's reign he was afraid to conduct a ceremony of dark wizards at the time when there was light but Grindelwald just casually summons all the dark wizards with him during Dumbledore's prime and voldemort's army was much impressive than Grindelwald's people i strongly believe Grindelwald is stronger than voldemort with or without the elder wand but i can also give out the argument of Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald while he had the elder wand but he kinda struggled against voldemort in the movies but in the books it's a different scenario
You do not seek to kill me, Dumbledore?' called Voldemort, his scarlet eyes narrowed over the top of the shield. 'Above such brutality, are you?'
'We both know that there are other ways of destroying a man, Tom,' Dumbledore said calmly, continuing to walk towards Voldemort as though he had not a fear in the world, as though nothing had happened to interrupt his stroll up the hall. “Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit -'
'There is nothing worse than death, Dumbledore!' snarled Voldemort.
'You are quite wrong,' said Dumbledore, still closing in upon Voldemort and speaking as lightly as though they were discussing the matter over drinks. 'Indeed, your failure to understand that there are things much worse than death has always been your greatest weakness'
durability-let's not pick the guy who became fudging immortal💀
u kind of miss the point friend! durable means they can withstand downfalls or avoid them! no one could practically lay a hand on grindelwald except albus! calculate the odds dude! albus feared facing him and soo he could terrorize almost whole europe! while in case of voldy, anyone who would know of his horcruxes and had brains or manpower would be able to destroy voldy, they wouldn't need exceptional wizard, his odds are much higher, calculate the probability bruhh!!!
And he still died when he was 70 while Grindelwald died when he was 116.
Vold was put into a coma despite being “immortal’ and died in a few years
Dumbledore vs. grindelwald in the book was the most epic wizard duels ever. Dumbledore was prime. His duel with voldemort he made light work in movie and book. Grindelwald all day
I think a healthy Grindlewald gets him.
Grindelwald obviously also started a war and also lost it, but while voldemort only fought in Britain, grindelwald walked around Europe…
If you actually watched grindelwald’s fighting scenes or read about them, then you would consider him stronger. He had a shield, able to block the killing curse and his blue flames had to be stopped by the combined power of 40 Aurors. Grindelwald was pretty much a one man army.
Would be awesome to see voldemort feats during the first war, where most probably his “full power” would have been showcased, where he obviously was very feared etc…
I mean, did we ever see his real power? The guy died, due to a mistake with his wand, not because Harry Potter was more powerful, which is kinda sad
ik we all aren’t forgetting how easy grindelwald summoned blue flame circle and used it to incinerate anyone in his way
Attack potency gets Voldemort he use more avada kedavra and only way to protect from that spell is having elder wand or same wand but grinderwald stomps
He had the elder wand before he got imprisoned
Voldemort in the whole Harry Potter movies : Aaavraa ka Davraa

If Rowling said grinderwald was more or less equal to dumbledore, it already says he is more powerful than voldemort or at least almost equal him in full power, so the list should be:
1) voldemort 2) grinderwald 3) dumbledore
Voldemort failed to kill a baby, then the same baby at seventeen years of age killed him by a simple disarming spell.
bro pay attention
what actually happened, is that the elder wand belonged to harry, so the killing curse reflected on voldemort because the wand didnt want to harm its true master, its literally mentioned in the books and in the movie voldemort's arm starts to get more black when the curse is coming more towards him

In the harry potter universe, a wizards main strength is based on how much 'magic' they could produce.
Hence why some wizards were nuts about blood purity (because they thought it produced stronger wizards, which it didnt)
This also led to having some wizards being considered 'talented' because they could draw out alot of magic, that produced extremely potent, and powerful spells.
Good examples of talented wizards are:
- Founders of hogwarts
- Dumbledor
- voldemort
- grindlewald
- Harry
- merlin etc
In the books, Harry and Voldemort had the same talent in producing magic, but had different potencies in magic simply down to technique in casting, and practice.
Grindlewald was slightly more talented than Dumbledor, but dumbledor focussed more on perfecting technique rather than learning alot of spells (like grindlewald).
If you were to rank the four in terms of talent in producing magic it would probably go:
1. Voldemort / Harry (the same)
2. Grindlewald (only slightly less than voldemort and Harry, but remember he had the elder wand which focussed his magic into a more potent form)
3. Dumbledor (remember he struggled against voldemort in order of the phoenix, and he had the elder wand)
Then ranking the technique:
1. Dumbledor
2. Grindlewald
3. Harry
4. Voldemort (he never really bothered in practicing spells he didnt think he needed, very arrogant)
Then ranking diversity of spells:
1. Grindlewald
2. Dumbledor
3. Voldemort
4. Harry (simply because he is young, and never really learnt spells outside of the corriculum)
