Stoicism reminds us that the key to a better life lies not in controlling external circumstances, but in mastering our own minds and choosing how we react to them. Focus on what's within your control and let go of what isn't.
“Don’t hope that events will turn out the way you want, welcome events in whichever way they happen: this is the path to peace.” - Epictetus I love this quote, because it links two of my favorite concepts: the dichotomy of control and amor fati. I agree. I teach yoga and invite my students to make the most out of this moment. To make a break with the past and welcome this opportunity to be themselves no matter how it feels. You can choose to be happy. Life is a gift. Don’t live in your head.
“What matters is that you get back up. What matter is that more often than not you stick to it.” 4:18 We will always be imperfect, but we can always choose to keep taking steps towards our goals.
Ryan, how have you gained so much wisdom in such a short life! You're not even 40 yet! I was always told I had to get older to gain wisdom through living.
Thank you Ryan from the bottom of my heart. You were the one whom which I discovered stoicism through and it is truly life changing. It has taught me to seek happiness from within myself and not externally, and so many more lessons that I am incredibly greatful to have discovered at such a young age thanks to the internet and amazing people such as yourself.
This is beautiful. Marcus Aurelius sounds a bit like Jesus actually, in the way he advocated compassion for every person and the community as a whole. Lovely.
Thank you for sharing these insightful stoic quotes, Ryan! As a member of the Stoic community, I appreciate the reminder to focus on what's within our control and to treat our bodies with rigor to strengthen our minds. It's refreshing to see philosophy being applied to real-life situations, especially in today's world where we can easily get caught up in things that are out of our control. I also appreciate the emphasis on caring for other human beings and the common good, which is something we can all strive towards. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to more stoic wisdom from you! 🙌 #stoicism #motivation #philosophy

You said something about if you can't control it, don't spend your time on it. I think I just really heard that. I was trying to decide whether to mark a load of books (which I find truly pointless) or whether to look for universities that do research on artificial intelligence on marking books in education. Now, I'm going to go for a walk with my dog. It's a spring evening in the UK. You just made my day happier. Thanks :)

Ryan reuses and talks alot about the same ideas in his videos, just maybe in a different order. But yet I find myself constantly coming back often to listen to these while I'm working out or just have some personal time where I'm just chilling and wanna think about life. It's a nice constant reminder of the virtues that I try to uphold daily.
Reminds me of how Marcus Aurelius constantly reminds himself to do the same action, but uses a different experience to illustrate why the action is the one he should take.
Great video and content as always, Ryan. I discovered stoicism about five years ago and found you during the pandemic has helped my life immensely. Thank you again I have all your books as well.
Great video, specially made me think that I should actually care more about others, or at least a bit more than I do now. They say that you get what you give, even a smile. Thanks, Ryan!

Hey Ryan I have been watching your channel for a long time now and I am a huge fan! And I am subscribed to the daily stoic email and I love reading it everyday can u make a video talking about the logos?

Hi Guys, i would like to ask your suggestions for something. I have been trying to do somthing that scares/ makes me uncomforteble every day. This really helps me confront my anxiety and makes me feel i concurred something today. I have done things like "Jump in the cold Ocean" "Say hello to someone that I don't feel like talking to" Taking the bike for a long trip instead of the car" "Read those government e-mails that i postponed way to long" "Going to try out new sports" "Going to social events alone" Can you guys help me come up with some more things to do for myself? I watched so much Daily Stoic I couldn't click on political stories any more, "No complaints" is only possible if you really do focus 'only' on what you can control. When I quit clicking on them, they quit showing up. I hardly ever see one now... and of course, I don't click.

I'm currently reading "Stillness is the key". i just wondered, why are there so many big and difficult words? English is not my first language but still I could tell you could have explained some things in a much clearer way. Hope you do it on purpose to deliver your message clearly rather than being pretentious (not to be offensive and annoying here, just trying to give feedback).
Ryan, have you read or listened to Robin Homer’s summary of the meditations? I find it quite useful. Since it is so short, I have time to listen to it all the way through before starting my day. I am starting to study and memorize parts of it. If you have happened to have read it, do you have an opinion on the accuracy of his interpretation and on how well he captures the essence of the original?
Any reason why you are always so stressed out, so alarming, does stoicism make you like this, do you ever have and ice cream or a donut, drink a couple of beers, spend a day or a weekend doing absolutely nothing ???
Hey dude, whenever you work towards a goal with discipline, you would regret wasting a day which you could've used. Spending the day taking you closer to your goal will make you happier.
