21 Stoic Quotes That Will Change Your Life
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 чер 2024
- As long as man has been alive, he has been collecting little sayings about how to live.
We find them carved in the rock of the Temple of Apollo and etched as graffiti on the walls of Pompeii. They appear in the plays of Shakespeare, the commonplace book of H. P. Lovecraft, the collected proverbs of Erasmus, and the ceiling beams of Montaigne’s study. Today, they’re recorded on iPhones and in Evernote.
But whatever generation is doing it, whether they’re written by scribes in China or commoners in some European dungeon or simply passed along by a kindly grandfather, these little epigrams of life advice have taught essential lessons. How to respond to adversity. How to think about money. How to meditate on our mortality. How to have courage.
These are 21 quotes that will change you into a better person gathered by bestselling author Ryan Holiday. Each one is worth remembering, having queued in your brain for one of life’s crossroads or to drop at the perfect moment in conversation.

Great, I will add only one more by Stig H. Johansson: *"All those days that came and went, little did I know that they were life"*
Thank you Ryan
My favorite one is there is beauty everywhere if only we look at it. Practice meditation and yoga.
Don’t be overheard complaining about life at court. Not even to yourself--Marcus Aurelius
Just bought your book.
Thank you for everything!
Keep feeding me Ryan...and may I be forever hungry.
Stoicism has changed my life for the better. BE A STOIC!
I can say the same!
Me too. I feel like a new person. My mind has been opened. Also see his 50 rules to live by.
Look into Jordan Peterson, his philosophy goes hand and hand with the stoics
@@kennymccormick6366 Parts of it. Not all.
Can everyone here describe how Stoicism changed his life, maybe there are some inspirational stories ☘️
"Receive without pride, let go without attachment." 🖤
In a difficult time in my life, mentally and physically, I came across Stoicism by chance.
Introduced by Ryan Holiday, I started reading and listening to him and other individuals to grasp as much as possible in the shortest time.
Stoicism made me a better man, dad, husband and employee. Thanks for keeping Marcus, Epictetus, Seneca and Zeno alive (hope I didn’t forget anyone).
YOU made you a "better man", Stoicism only provides a possible path and some wisdom, YOU did/do the work... which is the point of this (and other) videos.
@@BubbaSmurft well in a way we are both right. Stoicism is now part of me. That part of me makes me a better man.
Keep up the good work!
„Warmth, warmth, more warmth! for we are dying of cold and not of darkness. It is not the night that kills, but the frost.“

"Most of us have a toxic media diet" absolutely and thank you for contributing to the positive media out there!!

@T O You're wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These little mantras help so much when I’m tempted to act in anger or haste or self-pity. Stoicism is the way people are meant to live.
This is the way
Some of my favorite quotes...
"Where I am is alright because it is the beginning of where I am going." - Abraham Hicks
"Be a student not a follower." - Jim Rohn
"Don't let yesterday use up too much of today." - Cherokee Saying
"The boats do not sink by the water that surrounds them, they sink by the water that enters them. Do not let what happens around you get inside you and sink you." - Author Unknown
Now collected in my Commonplace Book 📖.
I LOVE that cherokee saying!! "Don't let yesterday use op too much of today."
That's beautifully poetic and true! Thank you! I'll save that one ❤
Ryan, you are like the father I never had. Listening to you is like listening to a fater. Thank you for everything you do, you are making the world a better place. Marcus Aurelius would be proud of you. I'll be sure to pay it forward man
My ptsd is going bye bye just from your videos it's amazing I am finally controlling my anger and issues. Can't thank you enough God bless happy holidays
Same...lower anxiety for sure
Same. I have PTSD from living with a veteran who denies his PTSD .
Since I discovered Stoicism, my life changed. Thank you Ryan
I like the twist on responsibility and problems I heard Will Smith say: it is not your fault, but it's still your responsibility to deal with the problem.
I like that much better than "not your responsibility but still your problem"
I like to award that to the difference between responsibility and accountability. Everything that happens to you was not your responsibility, rather you didn't have dominion over what happened to you. However you do still have to take accountability or ownership over them so that they are yours to resolve.
@@skylerhuston8766 however we cut it the idea is sometimes things happen to us or around us without our previous involvement. But as grown ups we are to decide how we play. This approach takes the blame and fault away from the equation, and many people blame themselves for such events. At leats that's how I understand it. Best regards!
*"In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety."*
Each day you have 2 options evolve or repeat
Stoicism is something that is so simple and practical and that it seems so easy that I never did it, but when I did I slowly changed it was painful but it was a good pain, something I'm willing to go through over and over again to become better.
Thank you Stoics and Thank you Ryan
I like to continually watch your videos because they not only have made me a better person but, going back over older videos, I usually look at what you're saying differently. This is because I'm growing, and my perspective has changed. It's just an endless cycle, and I love it. Keep making these videos!
Thanks for watching!
I was living by some inner rules (be kind, don't harm, do the right thing, protect the weak etc..) and when I've discovered stoicism it felt like home ^^
Found this site recently. I love it. It has helped me daily to keep my mind straight . Thank you 😊
Of the many motivational channels that exist, definitely find this to be perhaps the best suited for me. Was faced with unfavorable circumstances, my business is doing badly, to make up for it in order to literally survive and not lose my place chose to revert back to work I did not want to ever do again- leaf removal. For myself, using my Subaru and husky bags. Had finally built a viable online business that had starting earning enough to live from and reinvest and grow, but the platform I use made changes to the algorithm. Sales have fallen dramatically. Bad. Thus, back to hard and dirty physical work but instead of walking away and experiencing mental defeat followed not long after with more hardship, I chose to follow through and now have many leaf removals lined up. The principles herein have helped me, thanks for great content.
Some great quotes here. Thank you Ryan. Thank you Daily Stoic!
Thank you so much Ryan. You're doing one of the greatest things one could do in society.
🔥 "You're better off not giving the small things more time than they deserve."
-Marcus Aurelius

I read about stoicism in a newsletter. After that I wanted to look up more about it and got to your channel. And dude, I only „practiced“ being stoic for few weeks, but anxiety is already at the lowest point this year and self esteem grew a lot. Just wanted to thank you man, you’re great!

Remarkable wisdom - listening for the second time and it’s even better
Thank you Ryan 🙏🏾
As someone who didn’t have a present father figure growing up, I realized I’ve been drifting and wanting to focus my thoughts, stoicism has become my anchor to each day and be more aware within the positive aspects of life, not just dwelling in the negatives. Thank you!
I am so happy for Ryan Holiday’s immediate circles, and especially his family. Imagining if it is available to find videos of my father, speaking in terms of making life better, his struggles, his findings. To then rally it all up with a community around stoicism. Aspiring. Thank you all.
So great! Thanks for all your wonderful work!
Ryan Holiday, and stoic Philosophy has changed my life like no other I love you guys thank you so much!!!!
Thank you for serving up these great truths in easily digestible chunks. I listen to the videos over and over in hope of inculcating them deeply within my heart and life. I happened upon stoicism through one of these videos during a sorrowful and challenging time. Stoicism, Buddhism, other philosophies have my solace.
Thanks Ryan, this has helped a lot.

Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm - WINSTON CHURCHILL
Wow it’s definitely cool that here a lot of us, stoics 👍
'A Man In Full', by Tom Wolfe, is a great novel which - in its way - extols the idea of stoicism. It's also a brilliant read.
It’s better to burn out than fade away
We die a thousand times and are reborn, in our minds.
11:17 Detaching your interests from what you can't control. WISDOM!
I remember one day in the trenches of motherhood, postpartum with my second, feeling sorry for myself. I was sleep deprived, with so much to do and not enough time to do it----- Finally told myself to toughen up. I remember thinking Nanny McPhee is not gonna walk through the door and save you. It is amazing how different things looked and how much more I was able to accomplish once I told myself the truth. The truth was I always had the time and energy to do the next thing.
should deserve much more views
Can you make the fonts you use larger and bold and not compact. It’s hard to read on the phone. I listen to you in the morning and driving sometimes and the fonts are difficult to read. Otherwise, love your message and content. Thank you.
