The perfect character that you left out: BISHOP. He's been in two of the cartoons and the IDW comics, he's strong enough and skilled enough to fight the rest of the roster, and in a roster that's mostly mutants, aliens, ninjas, and robots, there's nothing weirder than a normal-looking guy in a suit.

Definitely. I feel like this roster was lacking at least one 2003 rep since that was also a beloved installment which has its fans, arguably revived the series and had one of its series co-creators collaborating on the show. Maybe if this game got one more season (4 is a magic number to TMNT), I'd say add him along with Hun (Utrom Shredder's former right hand man and leader of the Purple Dragons), Aska (another iconic Tournament Fighter original who was going to be Mitsu IIRC) and Venus (whether it be the IDW or maybe a reimagining of The Next Mutation version to serve as a character no one expected or wanted outside of memes).
Bishop was so badass and his fights were very well choreographed.

OK but the "we're absolutely not including Venus de Milo" joke actually makes a very good case for why Venus would be a fantastic pick. She's a decades-old punching bag, the first lame attempt at shoehorning in a fifth turtle, probably the most infamous character in the entire franchise.
In other words, she's the perfect wtf pick. You want to turn heads? You don't do that with a semi-obscure villain with a weird gimmick, you do it with the most notorious meme in the franchise.
Well, he’s said it in the video, Venus doesn’t have a lot they could pull from and at the time of the video, Venus has had very few appearances in the IDW series

@daleketchup7434 Venus did have something going for her: "Ninja magic". Basically, while the original four Turtles were at least kind of realistic martial artists, Venus might as well have been a _Naruto_ character.
The reason why she is hated so much is not because she was the 5th or a female Turtle, but because she was a damn Mary Sue. The first thing she did in The Next Mutation was to one-shot Shredder with the equivalent of a genjutsu!
Her concept was kind of ridiculous, but this is TMNT we're talking about after all. The real issue wasn't that concept of a female supernatural Ninja Turtle, but that it had been implemented in the worst possible way.
@RokuroCarisu Plus, her personality was inconsistent. One minute, she's joking around with the boys, the next she's overly serious and dramatic.
Honestly if they just got Tee Lopes to make the soundtrack just like he did for Shredders Revenge then the game is a 10/10 right there.
Tee's work on Mighty Fight Federation is also underrated.

I would go with the music designers behind Mutants In Manhattan. That games soundtrack was incredible.
I'll be honest, I thought Usagi was just a TMNT character. So at the end I was thinking how disappointing it was he didnt appear after yiu saif the last character was a guest. So when you said he WAS the guest character I was caught off guard and learned something new.
That’s my experience exactly, I thought Usagi was so cool, he looked like a prominent character if not a fan favorite one, so I anticipated him the entire video and also gave up hope at the end, right before he appeared.

It's why I was surprised at the Netflix show, as it's the first adaptation of his comic (as far as I know) that isn't a TMNT crossover.
Man, Sonic the Hedgehog has a lot in common with Ninja Turtles, even down to having a weird Archie run and a great IDW run. I think a hypothetical Sonic the Fighters or Sonic Battle 2 would be a good video.

Great roster! I really do like everything you chosen. But if you were to add one more season of DLC, there is 1 character who needs to be added, and that being the Michelangelo from the post apocolyptic future, simply known as the Last Ronin.
Since well, he is arguably the face of the IDW comics at this point. Plus the Turtles are no strangers to crossing over with differerent versions of themselves who come from alternate universes. And how heartbreaking would it be to see him fight this universe's versions of the Ninja Turtles and Splinter, because he thinks that they're just "another hallucination"
I imagine in terms of playstyle he would be a perfect blend of the four turtles and how they fight. For example Mikey still possesses his incredible speed, but now has the power of Raph, the range of Doni, and the well rounded skillset of Leo. Being a true jack of all trades, he would be able to cover their strengths but wouldn't be able to do it as well as they could on their own.
For example while he could have a shoto-like moveset, he would be more like Akuma to Leo's Ryu with slower but more powerful attacks. He'd also be a lot more reckless meaning he's also a sorta glass cannon, fitting the Akuma comparison. He's described as "desperate and determined at the same time, as evidenced by the risks ready to take to achieve it and having difficulty in moving forward and continuing to the point of committing suicide."
So basically he'd be fighting with a lot more offense but still well rounded enough to have some defensive options like a potential reversal Shoryuken type move using Raph's Sais.
Alternatively he's a stance character who swaps between 4 different stances, each using a different weapon of the 4 turtles. Fitting each of their archetypes but being not as strong in them to compensate as well as the general difficulty stance characters often bring.
Also he'd have slightly different skills from the 4 base roster Turtles that still have a bit of his personality shining through the cracks even if it's a lot more cold and hardened than regular Mikey.
Alternatively alternatively if this was a 4 button fighter like the original then we could map each weapon to a specific button where it fits like Mikey's nunchucks are light punch, Leo's swords are light kick, Raph's Sais are heavy punch, and Doni's staff is heavy kick. With each light and heavy move having their own special moves.
Honestly there are plenty of potential ways to tackle the Last Ronin in terms of playstyle and such but the main general concept would be a turtle with the weapons of all 4 turtles meaning he has plenty of different potential tools to work with but would most likely be tricky to master. Also you'd have to get the cold, distant, and suicidal part of the character across as well to truly best represent this darker timeline version of Michelangelo.

I think Bebop and Rocksteady should be a tag-team kind of character. It'd also help to bring variety to a game with so many huge bruisers who punch hard (you know, if the game was to be real anyway).
Make them like ARIA from Killer Instinct;
You can freely swap between them and they have special moves that call upon each other for MvC style assists but they each have only a little under two thirds the health of a normal fighter, and when one dies you lose all of your assist specials so you're left with a fighter who has almost no special moves of their own and just a few command normals if any at all.

@@lucasmartin9069 I feel like that could work other then they'd have different weapons and moves. Maybe make it so that all light attacks or "punches" are Bebop and all heavy attavks or "kicks" or whatever are Rocksteady?

I'd like to think that Super Shredder would incorporate some features from the overtly supernatural Shredders from over the years like the Tengu Shredder from 2003, the Ghost Shredder from IDW, or the straight up Demon Shredder from Rise
Demon shredder from rise should be an unlockable boss character that could utilize his live action, 87 etc into his own move list even his own from the show
I love Rise and freakin adore the 2012 reboot, also have a lot of memories with the 2003 version, good to see them all getting attention they deserve
Uh...not really, the 2003 Cartoon didn't have a single original. Of the four ideas I tossed out, I'd have gone with Bishop.

Maybe someone like Silver Sentry, Quarry, The Ancient One, The Ultimate Ninja, Drako, an amalgamation of the 4 Elite Ninjas and so on and so forth.
Hell, it wasn't just 2003 that got shafted.
Pretty much no exclusive character from Mirage, Archie _or_ '87 got in.
_Maybe_ there's a case to be made as to why Archie's originals didn't make it in sense it's probably the most obscure out of the most famous interpretations, but Mirage and '87?

Handsome haul, even if you remove the obvious 8. 87 Cartoon Originals? 7 reps. Just as much non obvious reps as the original comics debuts. IDW Comics Originals? 5 Reps. 2012 Cartoon Originals? 2 Reps. Rise of the TMNT Originals? 2 Reps. 90s Movies Originals? 1 Rep. Video Game Originals? 1 Rep. Long Term Guest? 1 Rep. 2003 Originals? Nothing! Absolutely Nothing! (And, yes, I KNOW that UHF joke is...dated.)

Fun fact: Hot Head actually inspired another character from the 2012 cartoon; a demon dragon and ruler of the underworld called Kavaxas...in fact, Mikey even outright CALLS him Hot Head
I love this roster. It is nearly flawless. The only things are:
-Muckman (not a big deal though)
-it feels weird having Wingnut and not Screwloose to me.
I'd also bring up the lack of Agent Bishop. And maybe Aska.
Agreed on Screwloose. They're a package deal to me. You could probably just throw in some attacks where Screwloose flies out and does something.
I feel like a character that is sorely missing is Aska. Sure, there are characters that are mostly known for appearing in Tournament Fighter but she is THE character that is unique to Tournament fighter and nowhere else in TMNT mythos. Other obvious picks would be Agent Bishop and Hun. And if I were to selfishly pick a character for my own sake and ignore anyone else's opinion, I'd go with Slashuur from TMNT2: Battle Nexus (a video game based on the 2003 series), his design is too raw and badass to be contained to a single game and never touched again.
Thank you! I felt I was the only one who felt like Aska was a major glaring omission. Bishop too being such a major part of the 2K3 series and it would've been nice if it got some more representation.
Another character that would've been fun to have is Pizza Face, who in the 2k12 cartoon is an actual living pizza man, as in a man that literally made of pizza.
Yeah, I feel like Aska and Sisyphus got done dirty here, as Sisyphus/Musha Beetle is also an original character.

Another reason Tiger Claw fits is because he and Alopex have beef in the cartoon. I know she's based off the comic in this scenario, but it still works. And she'd HAVE to have a skin based off the 2012 show. Also, Mutagen Man, while not exactly a go-to pick, STILL doesn't feel like an oddball. That just goes to show you how nutty TMNT is at its core.
Still, a franchise that was big in the 90's that's currently decades old with multiple incarnations that had an old fighting game in the day that has a great modern day comic book by IDW. I'm sorry, but this description also fits someone else who could use a solid modern day fighter: Sonic the Hedgehog.
I'm nominating Build the Roster for Sonic the Fighters 2...assuming the fan game Sonic Smackdown doesn't disqualify it from consideration.
Very good roster with a lot of good variety picks. The only stand-out characters that are missing to me are Agent Bishop and Hun. Both are big parts of TMNT 2003 and have made appearances in the other shows and comics too (though not as large ones).
Hun would be a big bruiser character (which we admittedly have way too much of), but he could also have his rocket launcher from the TMNT 2007 GBA game (yes he was in that game but not the movie itself) and could swing it around as a physical weapon akin to a staff.
Bishop would be a sort of basic fighter. Aside from his immortality, he's basically a normal human that just happens to be really good at fighting. I'd make him a counter based character or at least a technical one since while he is an excellent fighter in the cartoon, he usually has to fight uphill battles since he's usually against mutants or ninjas. Hard to play but very rewarding. Plus, he uses his _tie_ as a weapon. What's not to love?
Plus, I'd throw in Aska from SNES Tournament Fighters too. She's one of the OCs from the game, so it'd be cool to include her.
Also holy crap I cannot believe the TMNT x Justice League MUGEN game got Nona to do artwork. Pixel artwork and drawings of TMNT and Justice League characters done in the KOF style is absolutely insane to me, never imagined I'd see that. In fact the entire project has some insane talent behind it. Multiple SNK composers, a TMNT artist from the 80s, multiple old-school artists working from the SNES days, literally such a crazy project.
The only character I'd add to this list is Fugitoid. Partially because he's one of my favourite tmnt characters and partially because he's been a mainstay for SO long and could have a lot of potential with his kit
Edit: Maybe to avoid Leo becoming a total Ryu he could do something with his portal sword from Rise?
Idk. Being a Ryu character isn't a bad thing since Leo can be a character most folks can get used to.
With that said, I'd like to see Honeycutt in if there was a Season 4 along with Bishop and Aska.
Nah, Leo is definitely gotta be a Shoto-type character with decent normals.
Fugitoid would be a great narrator character, but was useless in a fight, so probably not great for the main roster.
But get David Tennant to voice him like they did in the cartoon and >chef's kiss< !
Let’s face it, if Miyamoto Usagi ends up appearing in the new Rise movie, then we have him in every iteration.
He wouldn't have made sense for that story, but I'd be *really* interested to see what kind of design Rise would give him.
Short of somehow including the Last Ronin, this roster is perfect. Props especially on Miyamoto Usagi and Old Hob.

There's just 3 things i want in a tmnt fighting game:
-alopex with a sexy design
-splinter with a sexy design
-Casey shouting goongala every other line
I appreciate the dedication to the plan of creating a new continuity, but good god were the RISE incarnation was tailor made to become a fighting game. The variety in their designs were off putting to die hards, but their silhouettes tell you everything about their playstyles. Also the fighting of that series is God tier Arc System Works

It's less anime fighter than the rise turtles
If I were to do a fourth season of DLC, this would be my list for DLC characters. Agent Bishop (zoner with guns and bombs as well as using his staff). Turtle X (from the future Cody Jones piloting a mecha which roughly resembles Casey Jones and a turtle). Nobody (generic Batman clone). And The Uthrom Shreader, who fights as a combination of Krang and Shreader, but without the grow stuff.
As one of the biggest TMNT fanatics out there, I’ve been super excited waiting for this video. I also LOVE that you kept dipping back into the IDW comics. Alopex, Jennika, Old Hob, etc. are all so SO good. And ending it off with Usagi as a guest character is the single most perfect move to make. Just one teensy, itsy bitsy thing…

Heck, my weird pick for one of these kinds of TMNT franchise fighter games usually ends up being Bugman from that one-off episode of the 90s cartoon.

this came at the perfect time, I just finished rewatching the 2003 tmnt cartoon with my family since they havent seen it before and it made me think "damn I wonder what a tournament fighters 2 would be like"
Usagi is definitely the one crossover character to add, but you bringing up Battle for the Grid just leaves the door open to bring up Power Rangers as well. Or at least just costumes based on the comic miniseries. Green Ranger Shredder and Pink Ranger April would be worth it alone.

I've been thinking about that. With the right framing device you could have anyone. What if in game it WAS just a fighting game, full of weird anachronisms, Soul Calibur Style? Boom now you can have Padme AND Leia.
He used Bardock in the “oops all Goku” part when he could have used base Goku.
The TMNT Franchise has always been and will forever be a part of my Childhood, next to Power Rangers and DC Comics.
I'm kind of hoping for a 2012 version of Rahzar to be in the roster. That version of the character was just so cool. I loved how he shot out his own skeleton structure as blades.

I actually came up with a great idea for the next Build the Roster. Back in 2015, Netherrealm made a WWE fighting game that was exclusive to mobile. It played like the mobile version of Injustice, but featured crazy fantasy versions of WWE wrestlers. Roman Reigns was a centurion, John Cena was a superhero, Randy Orton was a snake-man, The Rock was made of stone, and it actually featured Johnny Cage as a guest character. Now, this mobile game was delisted back in 2019, but what if WWE and Netherrealm partnered up again, this time to make a full blown WWE Immortals for consoles and PC? Taking wrestlers, both from the past and present, and turning them into superhuman fighters! Imagine taking a zombified Undertaker into battle against mob boss Tony D'Angelo, or pitting King Xavier Woods against the Scottish warrior Drew McIntyre. Plus, you could also put in Logan Paul, and IMAGINE how many copies you would sell if you could beat him up in game!

I'm seeing this as like a Hyrule Warriors situation where like the Mainstay characters like link and Zelda were new versions of those characters but then all the returning fan favorites were just the original characters
Oh dang. You know after I saw your other build the roster videos I made my own roster for a hypothetical TMNT fighting game. Never got around to making the actual video about it though. Can't wait to see yours.
EDIT: Okay that's wild not only did we have same idea to use an original continuity, but to use the IDW comics as our base inspiration. I think my roster is different enough so now I should really make a video too.
Honestly with them bringing back Tournament Fighters in the Cowabunga Collection, the time to announce that TF2 is at least in the works is pretty much now.
I'm pretty sure that game has been out for a looooooong time. It was in the Orange Box!
One of the characters I might have included would have been Sh'Okanabo from the 2003 series; tying him into the Time Travel arc as a DLC character where he escapes from the Future to infect the past. He'd be a Status Fighter with a splash of Zoner, kind of like Arakune from BlazBlue. He could also morph into his goo form for some surprising level of mobility. His Ultimate Attack, if successful, would have a dynamic win screen where he converts his opponent into a Kanabo Drone.
Come to think of it, he'd actually be a pretty decent contender with Rat King for Final Boss status as you could include Kanabo versions of the various characters...
Edit: Going with the Boss Route, he could have a mechanic where the player has to fight him without letting a special meter build up or else he can unleash an Insta-Kill.

If Hob wasn't a Ginyu style character who summons other mutants I'd almost say the opposite... Thorgi really went ham with those IDW picks, literally no 2003 characters got in that didn't appear in the 90s cartoon first! If Tiger Claw really had to go maybe Dog Pound/Rahzar instead? We could just do Razhar as even Thorgi admitted this roster was bustling with big heavy types or make him akin to Tung Fue Rue in the original Fatal Fury; right before he loses or after he loses a stock Dog Pound smashes a canister of Mutagen to turn into Rahzar for a last ditch effort blitz on the opponent.

Tiger Claw would fight differently. Dude has heat laser gun, freeze laser gun and a jet pack.
OMG, can you image the DLC costumes for this? Every single Playmates toy variation could be it's own costume. The Japanese Super Turtles. The Archie Intergalactic Wrestling Outfits. The Future Old Men Turtles. "Uk Approved" Turtles with no weapons.
You could have a entire crossover DLC pack: Cerebus the Aardvark (VERY unlikely), Savage Dragon (as a nod to the time Mikey dated someone from his cast), The Ghostbusters, Sonic the Hedghog (as a nod to the Archie run), MMPR Green Ranger, and Batman (they made a movie of the comic, it could happen).
I'd like to bring in Null. They'd actually be a decent surprise end-boss. Give them attacks based on the Four Horsemen from the Archie Comics, and make them into a indistinct energy being. Like a Darkstalkers final boss.
Also, April got turned into a "Fifth turtle" for a issue in the Archie comics, too.
Guess I'll be waiting for that King of FIghters retrospective part 4 for another few months, though...sigh...

As my tenth rewatch I just realized how much he describes characters abilities as flipping zipping and dipping.

An addition I would request is that Alopex include a bonus skin that mkes her Ninjara from the Archie comics. They are essentilly the same character, only Ninjara came first. The rights to her are lost in some legal limbo between her creators, Archie Publishing, and Nickelodeon, which is why Alopex was created to supplant her. But you can't beat the original, IMO.
Solid choices here in my opinion. I like that you went pretty "out-there" with some of these picks, but it wasn't just weird for the sake of being weird. I got a kick seeing Mutagen Man here, Renet and Rat King were cool picks I didn't expect to see, and I've only just been reading Usagi Yojimbo comics so I was happy to see Miyamoto here too. My only suggestions would've been to put in someone like Hun, Bishop, or maybe even something like the Foot Mystics as a "four-in-one" character (they could represent the "elemental mage" archetype) to rep the 2003 side of TMNT a little more.
Only character I would have included is Hun. That’s mostly because I grew up with the 2003 series where he was introduced. I can see why you would leave him out though, you’ve got quite a few grapplers and tanks already. But I do like the idea of a villain who is just some guy. Not a ninja, not a martial artist, not a mad scientist, and not a mutant or alien. he’s just really big and really strong, granted in the IDW comics he IS a mutant technically because he exposed himself to the mutagen but with no animal DNA he just became a super soldier. But in the show? He’s just really strong. I also think he would be interesting to include because of his backstory in the comics and how he connects to Casey Jones

This is a perfect roster honestly. I didnt know that Usagi had his own comic. I saw him in the 2003 show and never forgot him but I would proudly be a splinter and Usagi main.

In terms of “Taking a kid’s show and making it dark,” IDW also did that with Transformers, though the exact quality of the execution is up for debate, as with other long-time series. Side-note, would love to see you do a Transformers BtR.

And maybe, for the Final Wave of DLC Fighters, I felt like either using Sakura Kinomoto or Hikaru Shidou would be the perfect Guest Star because what Company owns Sailor Moon, Rayearth and Cardcaptor Sakura? Kodansha via well, Nakayoshi, obviously.
Though the original Mirage TMNT comics could be dark at times too.

Leonardo: Uses his ROTTMNT powers making numerous portals around his enemies quickly appearing and disappearing all the while he slowly chipping away the enemies life until final strike.
Raph: He tackles the enemy towards the ground then starts savagely punching them to the point he cracks the pavement and the final hit he jumps high in the air and summon a giant energy fist (he used against Shredder in the show) destroying the ground.
Donatello: Launchs the opponent up in the air then summons all his gadgets and Tech to blow away his enemies until one huge fireworks of his face appears.
Michelangelo: Raps his opponents up with his chains that starts spinning and dragging them around at one point he begins to breakdance then final slamming them face first in the pavement.
Splinter: Hakumen's Astal Finish but with the Sato Oshi Strike.
Shredder: He uses a smoke bomb to blind you the being mercilessly beating you from within the shadows and delivers the final blow with a final overhead strike. (Like Diavolo or what Shredder did to 2012 Leo after was getting jumped by the Foot Clan)
Casey Jones: Knocks you out then ties you up in a hockey goal and beings to shot pucks and his opponent and the final puck is a bomb that explosion in their face.
April: She runs up to the opponent and takes their photo point blank which makes them confuse and in that confusion she makes them sign some documents that sends them to jail.
Karai: She does the Ragnarok.
Krang: Summons the Technodrome and fires.
Baxter Stockman: Summons a swarm then does a Mad Scientist on you.
Bebop & RockSteady: Summon each other to brutally beat up up and it ends the a chainsaw or sledgehammer to the back.
Leatherhead: Would go make with bloodlust and starts beating and clawing at you until he opens his mouth and closes it.
Slash: He grabs you throws you into a wall and starts beating you into said wall until he punches you so hard you get sent flying throw a building.
MetalHead: Grabs on to his opponent then starts counting down until he explodes.
Hod: A Team Combo attack involving all the Mutant Animals.
Armagon: Back flips you into water then does his best Jaws Impression.
WingNut: Batman's Injustice 2 super
Alopex: Omae Wa Mou Shindeiru
TigerClaw: Summons a big ass laser gun and fires at you.
Mutangen Man: Grabs his opponent then starts pouring his liquid on them and starts melting his opponent away.

Rat King: He starts to cover you in rats and starts rhyming to you when this happens until it fades to black.
Chrome Dome: Grows to the size of a skyscrapers and then starts charging his laser then fires.
Hot Head: Grows giant then does a Shin Godzilla.
Sally Pride: Punk Tactics
Baron Draxxon: Ties you up and them let his gaint golem crush.
Super Shredder: Sends a power lighting attack eviscerating his opponent.
Jennike: Creates an illusion of the opponents greatest foe/fear then quickly strikes them down before they realize.
Big Mama: Wraps you up, knocks them out and feeds them to her pet.
Zog: Teleports to his spaceship and then fires a gaint laser at the city.
Koya: Grabs the opponent and flies them high up in the air and then dive bomb the opponent to the ground.
Usagi: NUNS4 Mifune's Ultimate
Good picks. Only thing I would change is a 24 character starting roster, with the inclusion of Bishop and Razaar+Fishface or Toka. Bishop could be based on a mixture of his 2003 design with a 2012 cyborg twist. As for Razaar, make him fight on his own, but he can switch stances to fight with Fishface for quick attacks, or Toka for slower attacks from a range that stop approaches.
The ultimate fan service addition to this would be alt costumes for the main turtles and side characters that represent each of the main cartoon versions, along with new voice lines by the original cartoon VAs. Movesets can be copied across all versions, but it could mean you could have a turtles fighting game based around your personal favorite series or none of them whatsoever.
Some more DLC that would be cool could be:
Cerebus the Aardvark as a guest character
Albearto the evil animatronic from Rise of TMNT
I friggin' love this roster vid. Each vid you drop gets better and better, and I appreciate how well you hybrid each iteration of the turtles into this vid!! Great choice to close the video Miyamoto Usagi because the whole video I was going in my head "Where's Usagi?"
If I were to throw a DLC pack out I'd add
- Fugitoid (Classic Mirage era character, that would become a recurring part of the TMNT mythos. I see him as like MvC 2 Jill but instead of running from Zombies he's on the run from the Federation.)
- Nobody (The TMNT-Verse's Batman/Punisher hybrid, another Mirage era character that really got defined in 2003 era. With his grapple hook gauntlets I can see him being a rushdown heavy brawler that's hard to shake off grappling himself to the opponent, or bringing them in.)
- Nano ( A 2003 original. An era I don't think really gets a lot of love. So I'd like to bring in one weirdo that has pretty much only been in that iteration to bring out their potential. It's a collection of childlike Nanobots that usually get larger and more unstoppable as an episode progresses. So I'm thinking something completely unique where the better you do in a match, or the more prerequisites you meet the stronger they get. Think like the gougi system in FEXL where you gradually unlocked perks as the match progressed, now it gets reflected visually as your standard sized fighter eventually grows into Aganos from KI)
- The Last Ronin (The IDW comic is amazing, been reading it on and off since the first issue dropped. But they're recent elseworlds-esque alternate future story with a grizzled beaten down Michelangelo has been a highlight of this past year of comics. I imagine him being kind of like Chameleon in MK Armageddon or Seth in Street Fighter. Where he shares a few common moves from each pre-existing turtle, but wields them all together, so you can combo from Katana to Sai to Nunchuk, to Bo Staff. But then story wise imagine how sweet and heart felt it would be to see this grim alternate future Mikey reunite with his brothers in an arcade ending or story.)
Honorable mentions go to Hun, and Bishop like I said I love the 2003 series and these two were definitely the most reoccurring, but I feel like when you include too many human characters in a TMNT game it starts to feel oversaturated. There's a line you gotta ride, which ultimately I think is part of what this video does well.
(Also fun fact: that Animated Alopex design was inspired by Ninjara a female fox Ninja from the Archie era of comics. The guys who made her kept the rights for awhile once he left Archie, so when the IDW comics were first being made they created Alopex. Since Ninjara's usage rights were nebulous at the time. Anyway I'm done for the night, g'night)

(This is the longshot but both series have had comics published by IDW and are peek 90s vibes, they'd probably be resized (Optimus) and maybe out of place (Sonic) but it'd be a great ode to IDW)

I really love the roster here. But if I had to make one tiny addition, 2012 Rahzar. With the rushdown playstyle, he could play like Sabrewulf from Killer Instinct not to mention that his design, is just so cool. Like how can you not love a werewolf with all his bones showing.
I think the only big missing characters for me are the Fugitoid, who’s maybe not much of a fighter, but is a really major character, and Angel in her Nobody persona, who’d be really unique in the roster.

Awesome video! Some of my DLC characters I would add would be fugutoid, Agent Bishop, Last Ronin, Angel (Nobody), Lord Dreg, and Hun
This was a really fun episode. TMNT Tournament Fighters 2 is always one fighting game I really want to see. This roster was really creative and the DLC picks were inventive.
Now, I can't wait to see the X - Men fighting game pick.
So this video is over a year old now, so I'd like to say this; there should have been 4 seasons of DLC. Four turtles, four characters per season, four seasons total. As for the ones who should be there, here's what I seem to see the comments agreeing on.
Hun. No duh. If it weren't for the fact that we had so many bruisers in the roster already, it probably would have been more obvious. However, he's played a major role in a variety of TMNT media, and is always pretty intimidating, even though he's not a mutant animal.
Bishop. Another interesting pick for the odd pick, though Mutagen Man was definitely the best for that role. Still, in a game with mutant animals, nothing is weirder than just a guy in a suit. Not to mention how important he's been in multiple stories.
The Last Ronin. No spoilers (the comments did that for me), but he's an interesting character to play around with. For those who don't know, the Last Ronin is one of the turtles who lives in an apocalyptic world where his brothers all died. 'Nuff said.
As for the last one, I hope it's been long enough that Franken-Venus has had enough time in the IDW comics to play a bigger role to warrant a place in a game like this. No spoilers, please, as I haven't gotten that far in the comics yet, because I am a poor college student, and while comics are great, they are also pricy when trying to get big bundle packs, since I read through comics WAY too fast. The point is, we bring in Venus as the last member.
I would love it if the guest character was one of the Battletoads (most likely Rash). A long shot, I know, but having a well-known TMNT rip-off in an official TMNT video game would be insane.
I now know that basically anything can happen on build the roster! This is such a fun show!

I actually though of a DC character getting into this video but seeing it being Miyamoto Usagi I can see how many other crossover characters are in the Turtles series.
Mutagen Man's story used to be one of my favorite episodes of the 2012 show growing up! He's honestly the perfect weird pick for a game like this if you know about him.
This video was excellent. Every pick was perfect, and everyone who I thought was missing from the initial roster made it into the DLC. Well done. This was a lot of fun.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, and learned a ton about the TMNT that I never knew about, so most of the characters were completely unfamiliar and interesting. I had thought Venus was the sole female Turtle across the franchise continuity, until I saw Jennika. Why is she not in more TMNT media?!?!?!
As a random idea for a future Build the Roster video, I have been thinking of this idea since the start of the year, but a Ben 10 fighting game with NetherRealm Studios as the dream dev team would be cool to see. And guest characters for this game would be a mix of 80's, 90's, and '00s cartoon heroes (to fit in with NRS's guest character theme of 80's pop culture icons, but extend the idea to the next 20 years of cartoon heroes/superheroes to include some really fun picks).
Speaking of IDW, would you be willing to a Build The Roster video of the transformers series? Like TMNT there’s dozens of different continuities/shows to go with!
It’s also probably got the most potential of any series for costumes and reskins to make different characters to please more people. In street fighter, Ryu has things like a blue robe, a black robe, etc but they’re all still ryu. With transformers, I mean, take Optimus Prime and that’s one character but simply changing the colours gets you about half a dozen others: make him black and it’s Scourge, make him bright green and it’s toxitron or just invert the red and blue and make Powered Convoy and so, so many more. And that’s just Optimus.
You can take someone like Starscream, change nothing but the name, colours and voice lines and you can legitimately make 10 more characters out of him, and that’s just palette swaps alone, with 5 or more others added to that by simply changing the heads and wing models.
Plus also there’s another doctor type character in transformers voiced by Jeffery Combs who also happens to have the start of his name begin with “Rat”. Not important but funny at the very least I think
EDIT: and also they have a character also called chromedome….neat
Venus de milo and Bishop could be the pre-order bonuses for the game but, if we're including Armaggon, we have to give him alternate costumes based on The Street sharks, there's just too much overlap. We could have four alternate costumes for each character and even more as DLC, such as dressing Rocksteady up as Gennosuke from Usagi Yojimbo. I hope I spelled their names right but I'm sorry if I didn't.
If Meatsweats from Rise would be in this roster, I could see that he will have a move that absorbs one of a opponents moves similar to Seth from Street Fighter or Kirby from Smash Bros.

If I picked a rise character it would be Meat sweats because I like the concept of the character, a crazy pig chef that captures and cooks mutants to absorb their powers, plus he has a wierd tentacles arm.

Alopex is basically Ninjara from the Archie comic...well her origin was that. I'd probably would make a Mona Lisa myself; maybe a mix being faster than Donny but less fragile than Baxter using lizard agility and tech weapons at her disposal.
I'd imagine Building a Roster of a new Sailor Moon fighting game would be like this in that like half roster the Sailor Scouts plus Tuxedo Mask, then everyone else being a mix of main villains, generals, and couple most notable monsters of the week. Like my weird pick, that cat girl monster of the week made up of puzzle pieces from the heart crystal season. Make Sailor Galaxia or Queen Beryl final boss, the one not used DLC.
Assuming it's a roster of 22, and half the roster is taken up by the Senshi and Tuxedo Mask, my picks for the remaining 11:
Kunzite, easily the most intimidating and memorable of Beryl's generals
Beryl, playable boss. Super move as in install that turns her into the Metallia fusion
Rubeus, as a Zoner
Kaolinite, because boobs
Mistress 9. How can she and Saturn both be in the game? Who knows!
Tiger Eye, but he calls our Fish Eye and Hawk Eye as assists.
Zirconia as the "oddball" pick
Lead Crow and Aluminum Siren, so we have another Sapphic duo
Last two will go to monsters. The puzzle piece cat is an interesting pick so we'll go with that. For the other it'll be one of the DD Girls, who could have some illusion moves as the "tricky" character.
DLC could include Galaxia and Sailor Star Fighter, one of the Weird Sisters from R, one of the Witches 5 from S, and Sailor Cosmos.

They only changes that i would do would be to include mikey last Ronin persona, and include either one of the original mighty morphin power rangers (either jason or tommy) or Andros from in space with his level 3 super being his battlelizer.

Armaggon is my boy on TMNT tournament Fighters, my brothers and friends hated that I picked him so I got Mikey or chrome Dome when I hit that piledriver, that's actually my most favorite TMNT game that I still play on my SNES

It's so weird that there hasn't been a full-fledged crossover between TMNT and Sonic, especially since both properties have an IDW comic run right now.

I have ideas for a fourth wave of DLC characters.
1.Bishop. Bishop is a staple character to the franchise even if he isn't as big as Shredder or Krang.
2. Hun. Hun is another staple character in the franchise.
3. Walkabout. Walkabout is a character that only appeared in the toy-line, so I think making an appearance in a TMNT fighting game would be a great way to both reintroduce and reimagine him.
4. Aska. Aska is a character from the SNES version of Tournament Fighters, so adding her would add more Tournament Fighters representation.
The Triceraton being Traximus would be a good way to represent the 2003 series and even out the hero/villain ratio that season.
all in all super strong roster, but personally I'd have to give Big Mama a base roster spot. If she could show up in a piece of media with more traction than Rise, she could be a fan favorite, plus she'd make for a perfect main antagonist.
I think other then IDW Rat King she's kinda the only justifyable antagonist lol. She literally runs an underground fighting ring she forces people to fight in... That is a fighting game plot waiting to happen.
Especially since the Battle Nexus is kind of a staple across multiple iterations.
For a potential 4th season, I think we need Last Ronin, Fugitoid (weird enough he wasn't mentioned at all in this video), another Rise character and a more obscure pick - maybe pick a character who only ever appeared as a toy for instance, or maybe an Archie character like Dreadmon.
Senor Hueso would be a fun pick for Rise.

A Rise of the TMNT game with Arc System is a no brainer
Some clarification on TMNT X Justice League. Only the original vanilla release was on Mugen. The update/sequel, TMNT X Justice League Turbo, was made using the Ikemen Go engine. This engine is an open source clone of Mugen that can run the same files, but is vastly superior and gives developers a lot more freedom and options to work with, making the games feel more like legit fighting games. Rollback Netcode is being worked on for the Ikemen Go engine, and will be added to the next TMNT X Justice League update, something that would never have been possible with Mugen.
Never would I have ever expect a MUGEN project like Justice League X TMNT to get exclusive official art done. Mind Blowned!

Great video. I think all choices are logical and interresting but, for me at least, there's one character that's missing and that's really important in the Turtle's history, because without him, the Ninja Turtles wouldn't exist: I'm talking about Fugitoid, the character that was the first comic of the TMNT creators and that brought them together. He even became a regular TMNT character. The only thing I can't develop with him is his moveset, because I'm really bad in fighting games. So I don't know what would be his fighting style (I know he can fight in some continuities so that's not a problem).

I feel like a way to fix the which series of turtles should we use issue is to make them costumes, so one costume could be the 2003 version and another could 2012 and so on for each turtle and then it could be for everyone
Very good roster. A lot of ppl brought up good suggestions like Hun, Fugitoid, and agent bishop. One change I would personally make is maybe make Bebop and Rockstead like Zelda and Sheik since they are usually seen together. Would have loved an original take on kirby from you. For a personal pick, the ultimate ninja from 2003 mainly because it stuck out to me as a kid and I would want a more mystical side of the mythos. Other characters I thought of were Scumbug, Tempestra, and Lita.
I probably would have made a few original boss character, like a full on mech suit baxter stockman from 03, a giant Tokka to reference Gamera and 2012, and giant krang from the upcoming movie looks really cool.
Also the thumbnail made me think you were gonna choose one turtle from each incarnation originally.

I think that the Power ranger would of been a good pic for the guest character, because of the rivalry between the TMNT and the power rangers, plus A Ninja Turtle’s appeared in a power rangers fighting game
