Meta Quest 2 Not Pairing After Factory Reset Finally Fixed

- Meta quest 2, it's a great device. I've had one for about 2 years now. I'm going to tell you my story and I have to say there is some top secret information here...
Why? Because well I figured it out on my own and don't think anyone knows about this fix yet. I spent a week trying suggestions from reddit, the community forums, even Meta Support and all I learned was that this seems to be a common problem and there are a lot of frustrated users out there and I hope it works for you and gets you back online.
Now just a quick disclaimer that anything I say here you can do at your own risk. I'm not responsible for any damage.
First, my headset would no longer allow me to purchase anything from the Meta Store. It was getting a "timeout resolving device scoped access token".
Second, it was no longer connecting with the Meta Quest app on my phone.
This led me to perform the frequently suggested factory reset from the headset itself. I was thinking this was going to solve my problem. Was I wrong...
After the factory reset, my phone was still showing the headset but still could not connect. Now the headset was acting like it was brand new and would let me get all the way through the initial configuration all the way to the screen saying it needed to be paired. The code was there but every time I tried to pair then the app would say unable to connect to your headset. To make matters worse there was no way of deleting the headset from the mobile app or even the meta quest devices page due to an unknown error that kept popping up.
So now not only couldn't I buy any apps, I was left with an expensive paperweight. I tried everything... All those suggestions you see out there NOTHING worked for me. I must have factory reset and seen that welcome animation 50 times.
After taking some much needed breaks to cool off... and we are talking days here. I told myself I'm not going to give up. There has to be a way.
It turns out there is some software you can download called Meta Quest Developer Hub that works on Windows or Mac. You need to have a computer with Bluetooth for this fix. Another thing is you should sign in with the same account that you had linked to your quest, that's how I did it. I also had to create a developer organization as requested by the software, but compared to everything else, that was a piece of cake.
When you install this software and setup your headset, it will pair with the headset and get the headset functional again. I'm guessing the software has a more robust pairing feature than the phone app and is able to bypass whatever hiccup was preventing the pairing.

AMAZING!! This worked perfectly. I had tried all the other steps of factory reset, sideload booting to flash firmware, pairing with multiple devices, etc. and nothing worked. Loaded developer hub and our Quest 2 was working again within a few minutes. You're awesome!

This works! Phenomenal that you beat my 4 different quest support chats to a solution. Meta's final solution was for me to return the quest, 7 days before my warranty expires. I still plan to do the warranty return, but this got me a few days of extra use. Others aren't as lucky and have had to pay Meta for another quest. I hope this video keeps saving people time and money
Definitely get it changed under warranty because the in-app purchases still won't work with this workaround. Maybe they do but I'm not sure how.

i bought my second hand and tried this method but i still cant get it to work. it wont show up on my devices and when i select connect to your organization on the quest and try to generate the code, it just shows an error. if you have any idea at all on how to fix it, i would greatly appreciate it

Glad it worked for you! Some have commented that it doesn't work but I think you just have to try a few times and also turn Bluetooth off and on a few times on the computer.

Thanks, it works for me. But at the cost of the headset saying that it's not setup while purchasing something and it not appearing on the meta quest account devices list. Also phone pairing doesn't work in any way, so MQDH is useful to atleast get the headset not being a total paperweight.
is there a workaround for this or did it work for you with the device present on the account management?
The only way I've found to buy apps after this is to buy them on the meta web store. Then it will allow you to download the app in the headset. I'm currently giving this another look to see if I can fix the root of the problem but I really think it's caused by corrupt data in the meta database.

Hey, first off - Thank you! I have tried soo many different things, and to highlight this and to make sure people save time and just follow your video, i'll list them below.
- uninstalling the app and doing this on multiple phones
- I have reset my Quest prob around 10 times and still no phone will pair.
- I tried mobile roaming on both phones incase
- Tried turning off and on Bluetooth
- Tried restarting router multiple times

Lucky UA-cam brought me here. But i have a question. I am still within my warranty and have been offered to send it for repairs/replacement. My concern is this - Seeing how common this seems to be, would it be better to keep it or go down the road of repair/replacement. Because no one at support suggested what you did.
I'm trying to work out logically if it's the phone app to blame or the Quest. I have tried the Quest app on the phone using a APK from 2023 but the problem is still there.
I may try a 2022 version of the app.

Been struggling for a month! Did the factory reset several times and was messing with Meta support for a while until they basically said, warranty expired out of luck - buy a new or refurbished one. Really? Somebody needs to tell these dummies about this. Once I created my account I did have to search for the download as I couldn't find it intuitively. Then I was able to get it and BOOM, pairing solved!

This works amazing thank you. Sadly when i tried to remove my headset on the devices page it worked, but my headset still wouldnt pair, now i get a device indentity errror when trying to add accounts and i cant make calls with people app, only whatsapp vr and messenger vr. Hopefully they fix this pairing issue soon.

@@joeshummeroffroad hopefully, ive tried contacting meta support and i was offered a replacement however my vr still works fine so i declined. I think when the pairing error gets fixed my issues in headset will go as my headset will be added back to my account
I have this same problem, detail to detail, I’m going to use this method in a while, But since the only pc that had Bluetooth in the house is my brother and we’re not really on good terms so hopefully I can convince him.

Hmmm.. Have you factory reset the headset? Each time I've done this the headset has been in the initial setup mode before starting. Was having trouble connecting when doing it again the other day and found that turning Bluetooth off and on and also connected the headset to the PC with USB c allowed me to complete the pairing.

I’ve been stuck on the screen that says, “In-Headset Setup Required” “Please go through all of the prompts in your headset, after your headset reboots come back here to complete the flow. Please do not close this window.” I factory reset it again, multiple times, I have usb c connected to my computer-headset. Bluetooth on and off nothing seems to be working.
I did this days ago and it got me back and and running, "BUT", it still will not pair to the mobile app. So, although this gets your headset up and running again, it does not fix the bluetooth pairing issue to the mobile app. When I did this fix I used a USB cable, and ADB, worked without issue, but like I stated, the bluetooh pairing to mobile is still a issue. Just read your reply to the other poster, I see your experiencing the same.👍
Thanks for your reply. In my case not even ADB and the USB cable were working for me. This was the only way I could get the headset back to working. As far as the meta store being fixed, I can wait for that since there is a workaround of buying the app through the web and then installing on the headset.

Does developer mode have to be enabled before u factory reset?
I did not have developer mode enabled. After you gain control of the device again it might be a good idea to enable it though. For next time... It seems like developer mode gives more access to the device.

I had the same issue and did the same solution but that just got me back to square one where I can’t access the store or play online games. I can at least use air link and run stuff on Steam. Did that completely fix the store for you?
I just noticed that it didn't fix the store when using the headset, but I did find a way to add new apps. First, I had to purchase them on the web based app store. Then I was able to go into the headset and install the app that was already purchased.
Not sure about the online games part as everything we typically use like Gorilla Tag is working.
Hopefully Meta will release a fix for the store problem because it seem to be cloud related with the syncing between the headset and the store. Also, I am still unable to connect to the mobile app so those two things might be related.

I cant turn on developer mode because I have to pair my headset first. It says I need dev mode to pair it. Do you know any way I can fix this?
If you follow the steps you will pair the headset with the computer. I think you can enable developer mode after that. It's been a while so I don't exactly remember.
@@joeshummeroffroad I've done these steps: Open the dev hub. Add new headset. Once I got to that tab, it said finding headset. There were no headsets loading in. I even waited about 10 minutes.

@@real_uncertifieddummy your computer needs to have Bluetooth and be enabled. Some have mentioned connecting the headset with a USB c cable but not sure.

Mine is weird it connects to my phone on the app but when i log into my quest account on safari it says i have no device connected so im stuck on the pairing screen with the code anyone know a fix?

thank you my friend broke his controller and he was trying to setup a meta quest profile so he borrowed my brothers right controller then it happend to my brother and he doesnt know but this saved not onlly one quest but 2 because my other brother got itt too

Question how do I get the headset to make sure it's Bluetooth settings I'm only able to see the Oculus website and the pairing code
The pairing code is for Bluetooth so if you see it then Bluetooth is on but you also need Bluetooth enabled on the PC.
I tried the developers hub and everything.
Heres my story.
One day my fb was gettick hacked so i changed the password to my fb account and signed out of every device that had my fb account signed into
(Was probably my ex gf getting into my fb and being a nuisannce).
Well after that happened a few days later i turn my headset on.
It took me to the pairing screen.
Couldnt reconnect my meta account to app. At all.
Even when i turn bluetooth on my phone and try to pair it to the headset the headset doesnt exist.
It doesnt even get picked up when trying to bt pair it to my phone or laptop.
Nothing pops up at all.
So now im stuck.
I cant even pair it using the developers hub. I had a developers account and everything before all this stuff happened.
And now even this video doesnt help.
I even tried a link found in reddit which took me to youtube basically explaining everything you just said but with more detail and it didnt work idk what to do anymore honestly.
What would really help is a video explaining how to turn bluetooth on. (On the headset) while your stuck in the pairing number screen.
I tried factory resetting the headset and deleting the meta app and reinstalling it. Nothings working even sidequest.
Unfortunately didn't work for me, guess we're back to the drawing board. I'm stuck with the same scenario with my phone showing it but not connecting after I did the factory reset that was recommended. Damn paper weight...
Were you able to follow the process? It should let you use the headset even though you can't pair it with the phone. Hope you get online again soon!

If it's not working when you try the first time then try turning Bluetooth on the computer off and on. Also try plugging the headset to the computer with USB c cable. I've seen it not working but then you try this and it works.

You could try turning Bluetooth off and back on in your computer. Also, try using a USB cable to plug the headset into the PC. Also it seems like sometimes you have to do it a few times before it works. Good luck!

@@Pdrdashel you can't enable developer mode until you pair the headset. Does your computer have Bluetooth? You can pair Bluetooth without developer mode.

Don't give up. This is working for a lot of people every day. You don't need developer mode to pair the headset.
Factory reset your headset and go through the setup until it gets to the pairing code. Then try to connect it to the developer hub. Sometimes it doesn't work the first time. Sometimes you need to try a few times and reset Bluetooth or connect the cable. Maybe it's a timing issue. It happened to me the other day and on the 4th try it worked.

The video tells you what you need to do. It works on Windows 10 for sure. Install the software and pair the headset with the software. Your computer will need to have Bluetooth for this.

Sadly this fix only works with a PC. I really couldn't bring myself up to buy another device after knowing it was only unusable due to a software issue. Wish they would just fix the root problem.
