first things first, excellent dissemble and reassemble. secondly really nice video editing too. Designing a headset with a external battery would reduce weight, thereby increase user comfort and also heat issues arising from battery discharge further loading battery consumption to fans. Must be the reason why they are designing it this way, keep heat source away from the circuit board. By putting the battery out front, dramatically increases the wieght load on the users nose, which could be overcome by tighting the headband causing stress headaches. Solution, remove battery altogether, add a usb c port to a redsigned faceplate with air vents easily manufactured on a 3d printer. Attach battery to a belt, back pack.

Wait, you call your screwdrivers things?!? I just eyeball it, and it works!” Anyway that’s all I had and I thought it was funny that there are actually names for the screws. 2:04
damn the insides looks pog, although it also looks like a huge mess like when a 100 wires tangle up together and have to untangle them be like. Well great job, thats all the best i could offer you
It will mutilate the headset, but one could cut open the case where the battery is located and save a lot of work. Someone who's taking apart everything could take some very accurate measurements of the battery location so people will know exactly where they should cut open the case. A Dremel drill type tool or a heated knife tool could be used to cut the case open. The cut-out part with the new battery installed could be glued or taped back in place.

no the oculus is a good headset to have fun in note that i own one its not the best vr headset to get lost in but it is the best for games and other stuff but if you want some other stuff in a headset others got that if you dont have a pc oculus is good to go but META STUPID ASS PIECES OF SHITS been making bad descions btw he might be talking about the fan in the oculus cuz thats what the arrow is pointing to its fine i dont play big games but if you add a new face plate the has more holes in it the fan should be fan hoped this helped
I got the quest 2 and the pico 4.
Wait for the quest 3. Trust me, it'll be way better, and with better cooling.
Hopefully Meta improves on the headstraps for the Quest 3. The design frankly sucks and the Elite Strap for my Quest 2 has hairline fractures less than a month after buying it.
@@farhanzulkiflee6598 The design is improved, and frankly even if they didt improve it, the point is that there will be many aftermarket straps to choose from that can suit your needs and desires.
That's why its good that the strap is removable, which is impossible with a rear mounted battery.
@@umbratherios5614 still got a quest 2 lol
Nice fix dude! And a free fin to boot? Can't go wrong with that! 😉
Question, do you ever forget where the screws go and have to rewatch your video just to see where it goes?
So I'm not the only one who punches the ref in Thrill of the Fight. Nice repair job. That looked brutal.
What one tho? The 2?
As shown in the photo it may be the oculus quest 2
Well it's in the title and it's pretty easy to tell
i am glad this is possible, even if a bit tedious, i just got 2 quest 2's used for my kids, and am glad that it does look good, because i can't afford to replace these if they were not replaceable.
they aren't, Unless you can figure out how to repair them your self, No one is going to charge you less then a few hundred bucks for a job like this, the amount of hours and effort involved are enough to warent buying a new device just to replace the battery.
@@yamiomo7392 obviously i would do it myself.
It’s not really their fault it is incredibly difficult to fit all components into a space that small while maintaining accessibility. Not to mention the problem of structural integrity to protect said components.
You raise some valid points, but what does years worth of structural integrity matter when the whole thing needs chucking because the batteries died in under a year?
@@theninjascientist689 you also need to remember that the thing needs to be as efficient as possible. Also just get it repaired by a professional or you can wing it any way you look at it you can fix it with a few days of time and energy.
It's on the outside, it literally could have been removable by a hatch. It's just asshole design to make people throw it away and by a Quest 3.
@@luketorpedo you still have to wire the battery also a hatch on the front of a headset you sweat while wearing which leads to a lithium battery that is a brilliant idea.
@@PotatosAreTheMostVersitleFood removable batteries that don't need disconnection of connectors isn't new at all and can be low profile (see phones and laptops before user replacement went extinct). That much sweat I think is unlikely and even if it is, a gasket seal isn't impossible either. Both reasons you've given counter I think are pretty bad, don't give companies like this an excuse.
just wanted to say that me and my brother really really love your video
Thank you! tell your brother I say hello
@@PhoneRepairGuru i will
I am wondering If you could fulfill a request from me: build a laptop that works, it would be an interesting video. (I love your vids btw, I always rush to watch your vids whenever a new one comes out.)
he fixes stuff he doesn't build stuff he prob cant build anything even if he did tho that would cost alot of money there's a difference between electrical engineer and a Phone technicians so he prob lacks in the knowledge and training to build a laptop srry i don't think he can
@@Unkown_Error9279I know what he does, I’m saying that it would be interesting to try it. He doesn’t do phone mods yet he makes videos on it, he can try build a laptop and if it’s successful it will be a very interesting video. And if he is a “phone technician” then why does he fix laptops and PlayStation, etc, he also fixed a oculus quest 2 in this video.
Your making me play the oculus 😊
Never thought I'd prefer Apple's solution of just having a battery hanging outside with a wire attached to it.
Hopefully the Quest 3 puts the battery conveniently
honestly I think the software is the worst part of the quest 2 since I keep on having issues related to software after every update, never had a problem when it wasn't owned by "meta"
that's part of the zuckification, another part is that now the cameras stream 24/7 to meta so facebook and threads can show you more personalized ads
@@vnc.t Just shut down the device with each use. Its sleep mode is absolutely trash. Probably because if it really sleeps it can't collect my personal information.
Yeah, I admit, having my Quest 2 since launch, the most frequent issues I run into have always been software related. Every update breaks something.
@@DiamondDepthYT i never experienced any issues with software maybe because i update it when power it on like 2 days a week so every bug has been patchout already
Meta owned Oculus before even the DK2 was released.
Edit: DK2
every vr tech youtuber's titles:
Here's a reminder that there was absolutely no reason, except for pure greed, the designer couldn't site the battery in a more accessible position.
i had to take one of these things apart at work for the same reason a few weeks ago and bro there is nothing that i have hated more than taking apart the oculus
Mark zuckerburger
What???
The fact you did this is crazy. I take apart quest 2 controllers and that is a massive pain, so i can only imagine doing a Q2.
YIPPE first comment!
you were 😭 i scrolled all the way down the newest comments and you're actually first
@@Oknoimgonnaokbye nice!
personally i use the bobovr m2 battery back, they clip in and out and no need to even take off the headset, i always have 2 charging and one on the headset, the battery inside my quest is pretty much done for but does not make a different with the bobovr setup
Dang, what a crazy side quest
(Pun intended) 😈
Looks like what we are seeing is that the intake port is pulling from the user mounted side and the exhaust port is recirculating air back over the board. Nothing wrong with a bit of preventative maintenance modification. It's like flipping the intake lid on an old V8, lol! I just bought one and don't have even have 15 minutes on it. I know exactly what to do now.
On the plus side, missing the default head strap is no real issue. Basically everyone replaced them immediately.
That board is looks next level.
first things first, excellent dissemble and reassemble. secondly really nice video editing too.
Attach battery to a belt, back pack.
is the headset still usable if you leave it plugged in
That looks so cool on the inside
I like to work on computers, and fix things myself, instead of getting them repaired, like opening it up and replace whatever thing needs to be replaced with a part that I got from savers or something. And so I was drawn to this video because I have an oculus quest that I want to replace a part with and I haven’t gotten around to opening it up so I decided I would watch a video where someone apparently does that which happened to be your video and now I see you opening this app and you say right off the bat T7 screw, and in my brain, my mental model, and goes a little bit like this: “Yeah, it’s pretty obvious that you should takeoff the padding first. Wait, you call your screwdrivers things?!? I just eyeball it, and it works!” Anyway that’s all I had and I thought it was funny that there are actually names for the screws. 2:04
im impressed you managed to take apart and put an oculus without damaging it in any way.
(ps, i thought jmancurly was learning how to repair oculus's)
"CONNECTIRSECTION" that's even a word?😂😂
I’m excited for the video 👍🏼
damn the insides looks pog, although it also looks like a huge mess like when a 100 wires tangle up together and have to untangle them be like.
Well great job, thats all the best i could offer you
I see we finally got that SAO DreamCast Update!
the minecraft chest sound fx is a nice touch
"Unscrew"
_"I hate my life"_
*well that escalated quickly*
That video is exceptional. I heard Unscrew more than 5 times!!
Hats off man, I did one of these in mid april and thought I was going to have to buy it from them. took 3 and a half days. NO, just NO.
