And follow my IG to know before UA-cam @bybtim

And dont buy flooded r8s😂😂😂
I really hope you won and I lost . Good luck .I think the car will start the garage looked good no water line and I think I messed up.
My thoughts... this car was stolen and stripped in Panama.. someone recovered/bought it slapped some door and interior panels (that didn't match so they were reupholstered) and seats in it then shipped it to the US to wash the title.
Too detailed
Yup! Something. I’m wondering why this car has “miles” and not “kilometers” if it’s from another country!
Usually in these audis you can change from miles to km from the bord computer menu.
a mule car?
@@denistrendafilov770 very true. I didn’t think about it being digital. Thank you
If the changed the cluster to drop the mileage it will cause the car not to start. The ecu and cluster are linked.
I think copart or someone working there maybe had a friend who helped themselves with this car before it was advertised
Tim, you need to fully mount the ECU's back to the frame of the car. The ECU's get part of their grounding system from being mounted much like Ferrari's and Lambo's.
Bump
Tim's neighbor Sam has shown us that a few times with his Ferraris. Funny how something so simple, and easy to overlook, can throw a wrench in the works.
bump !
The easiest fix always seems to be the last thing we look at.
The guy you spoke to knows what really happened. He made up a story to the insurance company to get paid out which he had to stick to when you messaged him.
THIS.
!!!!
Facts
He went and found a shitty r8 in Panama, insured it for triple what he paid, claimed it was flooded and got paid out?
But why would the insurance company total it if there was no water visible damage
@@johnnychimpo7539 because nobody could get inside the car
The format of these episodes is starting to take the old shape again where u brought us to explore the problem with you and think of solutions together. Love it! ….. though we don’t contribute much financially
A comment, a like and a share would be plenty 🙏 a financial contribution is a mega bonus 🙏
It seems more like an “insurance job” than a flooded car. 👀
Check your ground connections under the carpet ! I bought a 335i from Florida also flooded recently and shipped it to Germany. It had a low flood line and was nearly dry (but some mold). First everything worked, but over night, complete can bus system made errors. There were four ground connectors in the drivers and passenger footwells, that were corroded … now everything’s fine !
Your leather on the door panels may have shrinked because of condensation, and so did the stitching … had this on some dashboards when flooded …
Greetings from Munich 😉
Will definitely check!!
just courious, how much did you pay to register the car in germany? or was it for parts only?
@@juangouveia8098 to register the car in Germany you need a data sheet, ~300€, (first) roadworthy proof §21, ~ 360€ and finally registration ~80€. Of course if you have to replace defective parts or need to replace headlights or taillights due to EU regulations, this may add up.
You know you’re frustrated when you call a project ‘stupid’ 😂
The computers in the engine bay you have them hanging around you must put the screws back on because that'll make ground and make the computers and all of it work. That's the same thing with Ferraris and a few Lamborghinis. The computers have to be screwed on to the frame in order to work that way it makes ground so put the computers back. How do you found them then try the whole procedure a
Use Carly to check the milage, it will read them from all the modules possible and will tell you if has some difference between them.
This might be a long shot. Samcrac has two Ferraris the cars wouldn’t start without the ECUs being mounted to the frame solid. It looks like your ECUs mount in the same place as they did on his Ferraris, might check that out.
BackYardboyz this is the video I’m mentioning. Best of luck!
ua-cam.com/video/hHDJ63du7hk/v-deo.html
Ive seen that vid and thats well thought of! Could explain why the immobiliser keeps coming in and out of being recognised.
I own a Audi R8 V10 plus and I will ask my pro mechanic about your problem, maybe he can help you 😢
Did you considered to just visit Audi dealership with this car and let them do inspection check what actually does work and what doesn't? Won't it be faster way to do it? Just an idea. It will cost some bucks but it will be fraction of what you invest into this car in your time. They have original diagnostic tools so they will see everything that is wrong with this car. And then you can start fixing all addressed problems.
I'm going to guess that after the car was reported to the insurance company someone swapped out the low milage parts for high milage parts. I bet the prevous owner has a friend with a high milage R8.
As for what is wrong with it, you might need to pull and check the wire harness to see if any water has gotten into it. My BMW X5 has intermitten issue like that only to find the wiring harness in the back was sitting in a pool of water.
You got great deal in the end of the day. Only Panama export record was my issue. I guess its maybe rental there or somewhere, and people could easily destroy rental in 5k miles. Miles should be legit. Check immobilizer itself, can bus(possibly one of the modules shutting whole system down). Even door module could shut whole can bus..In worst case scenario u can buy brains/bcu/immo/key etc. But im sure one of the modules corroded inside and thats why. You only gotta find out which one
Bring it to super mario diagnostics in florida to diagnose it for you, dude is a pro
This car is extremely intriguing
I’m right there with you!
Ground straps on the engine, grounds at the modules in the “rear seat” area.
Just like on old Honda’s there was one ground on the harness that was for way too many items.
For this Audi , I would use jumper cables and ground the body to the engine. I’d for sure make sure you grounded your ECUs PROPERLY, not laying on the frame.
I kid you not ! I’ll find a video showing issues like this for lambos.
Reach out to Samcrac , he dealt with a guy who reprogrammed his ecu and keys on a Ferrari. Or look thru his videos
Good Luck with this one .Is there any signs of water in the Engine oil or the Trans oil ? Watch JR.Go worked on one of these for a long time before he was able to resolve his issue ,maybe he has some hints for ya ???
Why you do not use an oscilloscope and check the cam communication between one module and another?
You can see the 2 (can hi and can low ) frequencies and see if they have any kind of disturbance.
After that just by pass one module at a time and find the bad one.
Very easy 👍
Get that thing fixed and sold brother 😂
Check the VINs on the chassis and engine to see if they match. Odds are they do not.
Maybe the previous owner jumped the battery backwards……. Could have lightly smoked any can module. Someone did this to me on my VW.
That cluster should be lighting up red on the left hand side with key on even without it being married/paired looks like locksmith cooked the cluster. This is all an OBD job should not be pulling anything out except possibly for engine computer read. Can get 6 of 7 CS password bytes out of either engine computer, and then “sniff” the 7th byte from ignition switch but the way that cluster is looking not going to happen. Also immobilizer delete is possible if you do it on both ecus and can start vehicle without a working cluster or programmed key. Too bad your in Florida if you were in California I could have knocked this one out in an hour.
Its just another insurance scam.
Maybe the car was stolen and someone switched off the immobilizer, but he did it wrong. Read the pin code from the instrument cluster and encode the key and try to start.
No way 5k miles is correct. I thought that all the different ECU’s/modules are supposed to record the mileage so can you not use a scan tool to check all the modules and make sure they all match. Maybe they’ve been swapped out from another car?
Contact Sam Crac he had same issues with another car . Make sure all computers are bolted back in so they are grounded.
keep up the good work!
Tim please keep it up not just with this project with UA-cam and car world in general you deserve a lot and you’ll be a big big one,one day! Good luck
do collab on this car with samcrac he is in florida too.
2 things:
1. If it’s from another country, wouldn’t the speedo and mileage be in kilometers and not miles? If so doesn’t that mean it’s even less than 5600 miles, but 5600KM?
2. What’s the chance that the reason you’re having these issues is because somebody tried swapping computers and making it look like this was a low mile car even though it’s not and that’s why there’s all the issues coming up??!
Hmmm, have you checked the Pyro?
Something tells me that someone could've put a front end on that car.
Please remove that RS3 badge and stop telling it is R8 RS3 :) :)
Hi from Vancouver 🇨🇦 Glad to see your videos again Tim. Love your videos and keep then coming. This Audi has an interesting story and will only get more interesting so looking forward to the progress.
In shop we had a problem that a4 b8 that didn’t start, nothing was working, only showed life on cluster some lights. It seemed like gateway was dead. After checking all that, changing gateway, cluster and etc nothing helped. What fixed car was audi dealer connected i think ODIS scanner and did some reset of gateway or adaptation(they did not said exactly what they did…). It took maybe 1 or 2 mins and it started working like usual.
Perhaps you already answer this , But Did you scan it with a VAGCOM/VCSD scanner ?Or Vas System , as llong as i can remember those are the only scanner to surely code and pair anything VAG.
is it possible that the second key is used by a compagny wich turn back the miles? so they can get more money on the auction. Because the owner did get a way less for it maybe because of the higher miles?. Here in Holland we always can find a history of maintainace, and then there is always a miles noted. Or it is floaded and they try to fixed it and didnt make it. Because they change hardware wich isnt original. Men you have bought a ghost R8, but!! this is car is gonna start...
also.. ground those ECU's! lack of start and intermittent data communication / codes?... bolt them back in to get good ground. .worth a shot😊
Call samcrac 😂
The fact that the previous owner says that nobody could open it, already tells something about the car being broke while the keys where still there. So now you probably programmed the key correctly, but the result is the same as with the original keys.
Cant you see the mileage if you scan the gearbox? Atleast you can on bmw zf gearboxes.
My Audi A5 has over 70.000 miles, several owners and the interior looks a lot better than this R8!
If you want to be sure for mileage check gearbox ecu they can't touch it that's the only to know real mileage if you can check it with scanner or something do it
I've seen on some Audi's you can scan the gearbox ECU to verify mileage driven ( it'll normally show it in KM regardless of market). Hope you get it sorted 🤞🏻🙏🏻
Get this awesome machine running Tim! 💪🏼
You should use a better tool to diagnose it and code keys. ODIS is the proper tool for this.
Alternative problem could be that hazards need to be on, to keep the systems awake when coding keys.

I think it is an abused low mileage but there is no such thing as an R8 Rs3, RS3 is another audi model and someone has stuck the badge on there which is a strange thing to do
RIGHT! I just posted the comment that there is no such thing as an R8 RS3! Even amateur Audi fans know the model designations!
Nice content again, but these early R8 cars were not built to top standards. In U.K. there are a variety of faults as openly discussed by specialists. Yours has some of them. Interior looks home made and swapped for the OEM original? 🇬🇧
I’m number 5k like 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I realise it’s not going the way you want, but the Sherlock Holmes mystery on this one has me checking you tube every day for an update, loving the series.
💪🏼💪🏼 same hahaha
Excellent episode. Would be great to see what's was wrong. Seems like a loose wire. Getting repair shop manual should help to check voltages and signals on interfaces. Will probably sell overseas because of cert. of destr. title
Drain the oil to see if it’s flooded
I had something weird with me vehicle before. What happened was that someone installed an after-market remote vehicle starter. Eventually the main computer control unit wasn’t reading my car key as it’s own. After being taken to several shops and not knowing how to start it.(lights and everything else turn on). one mechanic took it apart and found that after market starter that messed with the code.
Replaced the control unit so that it would read the key. I don’t know much of the details, but maybe it’s a fresh idea if there’s something interfering or blocking that communication from starting.
Ignition barrel or dashboard cluster
Any key can be hung on a door mirror......
Any wire in a canbus network can be cut..to stop modules communicating..
any car from a flood area...can claim to be flooded..
any car claimed to be flooded can have previous blown engine....
dont you just love floods....
love the vids...hope you get it sorted...sorry for the negative vibes
N x
First, it's an R8. RS3 has NOTHING to do with the model. I don't know why there is an RS3 badge. It's simply an Audi R8.
A V8 R8 'RS3'? I dont think that's a thing. we know this is just some random sticker on the car yeah? a very odd car all round. lol but you probably know that already. None the less love following along with the mystery, im sure all the BS hassle will be worth it in the end
i think you should mount the ecus correctly in order to get proper ground
7:18 what do you mean according to the website? EVERY tire has the week and year like this...
Can you say how you are going to get a title for a certificate of destruction car? I'm looking @ flood cars too, but am hearing a CoD car is not possible to title + register. Much Appreciation.
Te sigo hace varios años y siempre me he preguntado si Alguna probabilidad que puedas tener alguna vez los capítulos con subtitulos en español?
I have been following you for several years and you have always asked me if there is any chance that you can ever have the chapters with Spanish subtitles?
Grettings!
Saludos!!!
Drug smugglers car, small cars going through boarder/customs likely to go through without in-depth search as there’s not much cavity space.
You know you can check if the mileage of this car from a good obd2 computer
obvisouly it was not flooded
its an insurrance scam, thats why the guy was hiding lol
your issue with the module is a ground issue not flooding
Smart guy for never saying 100% not flooded 👍
VCDS should of been a start... Plug a genuine one in and check the codes.
early gen r8s in hot sun and hot climates, the door card glue would always losen and melt leaving a lot of the stuff saging so that's all normal
Get it to an Audi service center for a diag They'll charge you a lot, but you already have a lot invested.
No hate to the original owner, but this car seems to be insurance fraud. The car is obviously not flooded. Was probably parked near a flood on purpose, insurance company didn’t look into the claim and it was deemed flooded. OG owner got paid well and is telling you a story to not get into trouble
If you don’t know what it is it’s the ecu becuase it’s not reading them right also all the sensors needs to be replaced I’ve worked on Audis before
What’s this R8 RS3 business? RS3 is it’s own model and I’ve never seen an R8 with a similar sub designation.
*This car has more stories than a wicked novel love it* 😳😂
Yes certainly does not look like flood damage but interior door card condition is definitely not consistent with dash mileage, maybe they have been repaired after blown air bags. Insurance loss adjusters take the easy option - doesn't respond to the the key, its been in store in a flood zone, must have water damage - pay out. You need to get clean connectivity into ECUs. Strip and check all connections with contact cleaner even open up ECUs to check for water ingress/damage. Mileage is hidden and recorded in multiple ECUs - check for consistency. Maybe someone has been trying to hack the immobiliser while in storage? As you say things just do not stack up.
I hope rebuilding this shit won't cost as much as an used R8.
If you use VCDS, the ECU will display stored mileage. Pretty hard to cheat that unless it was fully swapped, I'd take a look
Subscribed liked and shared ❤
I did some research and I found a video of your car while it was been sold in Panama, the name of the channel that submitted the video is @supercarpty and it was being sold by universal motors in Panama and on the video it shows it has 5k kilometers which would be around 3k miles. Greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽
😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
I love those cars but not sure I’ve seen anyone be successful fixing them. I hoping the best for you guys and welcome to Florida
As far as the interior door panels. You were trying to pry the doors open from the inside. 🤷🏽♂️
Dude stop making the Same video over And over again.
With the Same information over And over again
Could have a very good ghost immobiliser stopping the key to match without the ghost immobiliser key
I’m having a feeling this might be it. How does a ghost immo act?
@@BackYardBoyz yep hopefully
It is an immobiliser that you have to press certain buttons inside the car I.e the window switches twice or things like buttons on the steering wheel which is like putting in a password to unlock ecus or full pumps but if the ignition turns on you would then enter the code by pressing the buttons.or it may need an immobiliser key to recognise anything.
@@BackYardBoyz forgot to tag you in my comment
Fam some things need to stay where they at… u know win some lose some that’s copart name I have bin tru the same thing 😢😢
stolen exported found crashed r8 with a new vin imported with new vin then insurance claim then you
my guess is someone at coparts or insurer swapped out some vital electronics, keys and interior with some junk they had in their car.
Run the vin on car vertical. It seems to find stuff that car fax can't.
Get the entire starter kit from a different R8 (Keys/ECU's/Cluster/Door Barrel).
I´ll be honest here i prefer the style of ur old videos way more, but i understand u gotta work ur way around youtube algorithms!
Hi Tim that’s a really good mystery story should it should really galvanise the imagination of your viewers and get more likes! - Nice ploy buddy !!👍
What happened to your other builds? RS5? and the other two GTR's?
How Audi dealership can't help you?! What a awful service!
Drain the oil…. Check for water
It could be where your key goes in, it could be the key starter in the key holder, I had the same problem the car stopped working fixed that it worked perfectly 👌
It's on sale on marketplace right now
Might want to contact freddie tavarish to check if someone has swapped the ecu on the r8. Might be something simple
This car super sketchy 5,000miles I don't think so!!
