For the person that's struggling with their own body:
As Kurtis said, it is a journey. But it doesn't have to be a journey of changing your body - but one of self-acceptance. If your body isn't in the right place, you'll always find things to worry about, even if you get your "ideal body" or "perfect face". I struggle with the same things but I'm learning to love myself, love my body, my face, and everything. It's hard, but it can be done. At the end of the day people will love you for who you are on the inside, the same way you should love people, and the same way you should love yourself.
But loving yourself doedn't mean that you need to keep your body as it is. It means being nicer to yourself, by taking care of your body, or just loving it the way it is, or both. See your body as a tool that helps you live life, as a canvas that shows your scars and battles. It's not who you are, but what carries it. I started working out and eating better but because I wanted to feel better, physically (I'm getting old so everything hurts lol). If at the end of the day I get a "better" body, good. If not, good as well.
Maybe some therapy can help, maybe stop hanging out with people that care about the looks and nothing else. Also stop looking at social media at face value, because trust me, even models photoshop their pictures after makeup and a lot of things on top. Even models and influencers have body image issues.

Yeah coming from a fellow girl lol - if you’re literally crying when you see your face and other people are telling you how pretty you are it’s actually really important to consider therapy. If it’s at the point where you don’t want to do things because you think you’re “too gross” or something, I’ve been there and you need to consider looking into body dysmorphic disorder. Even if you’re fat (like me lol) you shouldn’t feel this much hatred towards yourself. You don’t have to be starving yourself to have body dysmorphia either. Please get some counseling because this sounds like something that I didn’t get over until I started Zoloft lol. Even though I’m currently at my heaviest, I just bought some summer clothes that I’m excited about, I’ve been taking more pictures of myself, I’ve started to explore fashion a little more. This doesn’t mean that I’ve given up on getting healthier (I don’t have the best habits), it just means that I’m not paralyzed by insecurity and self-hatred. This was only something I could do once I started therapy.
@@amyrorok You're 100% right. I've been kinda dating a guy who's a gym instructor, and one day he said I was fat but as a joke. I was like "hey, not cool dude". And he looked at me and said "it was a joke... you know you're not fat, right?". I said "no, I AM fat", and he became like worried because I was looking at myself as a fat person.
Like all my life I saw myself as that - and I still do. So I told my mom about that and she gave me the same worried look "you're not fat.." - Now I actually want to check if I have some type of body dysmorphia. Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT skinny. But I usually see myself 100 times worse than I should.
It's a real thing. Therapy sometimes is the best answer :)
I agree with all of this!! Something that helped me was deflecting intrusive thoughts about my appearance. So when my brain said “you’re the ugliest person alive” I would respond “ok so what if I am? Why does it matter?” It forced my brain to realize how irrational it was to care only about appearances. Now I’m able to look at myself and truly believe I look good. It took awhile and I did go to therapy but it was worth it in the end!

and like... IRL, one person in a relationship can ask another person to bring them stuff. To the 18 year old with the body image issues, I’m sorry you’re going through that. I grew up in a similar situation and couldn’t look at a mirror without cringing. It’s a hard mindset to crack and there’s no magic words that’ll fix it. But I hope one day, you can look into a mirror and go “huh. Neat!”

I am an artist and was looking into NFTs bc I thought the same thing as you about crypto but after seeing discourse and reading up on it, I realized it was Not It for me. Cambridge University has a good study on it! Highly recommend the MSNBC article abt the study.

for the person who's planning on moving in w their friends: really, really consider communication styles, how you've resolved conflicts with them in the past, etc. bc you care about your friends' feelings, it can be really difficult to live w someone you're besties with versus a rando--you have to be okay with bringing up concerns to them to find solutions, and they do too, but when you're close friends it's easy to not want to make them upset. also in my personal experience people you're really close to are either the best roommates ever or the absolute worst, no in between
also, you're all going to change SO much after high school, which might change how you feel about rooming with them or just your friendship in general. the most obvious thing i can think of is like alcohol & drug use, & how people have diff comfort levels with that that change a lot in young adulthood, but there's other things
Not to mention, even if you move in with your closest high school friends, LIVING WITH THEM IS A LOT DIFFERENT.
As an example; I had a life long school friend who moved in with me when I moved out. She quickly went out of control and acted very poorly. She even threatened to put one of my KITTEN’s head through a wall, until I said not if I do yours first. She didn’t mouth off to me again as she knows I can, and have, absolutely laid her flat before. I ended up moving out on her for all the animal and psychological abuse she put me, my pets and my then partner through and telling her “Don’t even think about trying to even talk to me again”. She ended up moving in with another school friend and going off the rails on hard drugs and almost game ended her own puppy out of negligence and anger issues. So yeah. Choose your roomies REALLY carefully.

To the person who sent the second email (or anyone struggling with insecurities), I used to be insecure with my body and face (there are still small things I don’t like but overall I’m much happier). What I found helped was looking at myself and finding things I didn’t like, then telling myself why I should like it! After repeating it it really helped, as dumb as it may sound. Also drawing characters I like with those insecurities or common insecurities others have as well. Seeing those things on beloved characters honestly helped me see just how beautiful different features are. I’m not sure if these things will help everyone but I suppose they’re worth a shot! Just know that your features are beautiful and make you, you! As cheesy as all that might be it’s true. 💗💗

to the person struggling with body issues , i have struggled with it too and what i found helped was whenever i felt “unsatisfactory” in the mirror i looked away. if i thought i looked particularly bad that day i looked away. This won’t work for everyone but it helped me

I don't know which thing I'm more worried about: that it's a scam/everyone who invested loses their money, or that it becomes the new economic thing and we all have to get into it (like with retirement plans and the stock market), and it fucks up the environment even more on top of making personal finance even more complicated and furthering income inequality.

@@sophiae3018 even totally "pretend" NFTs like bitcoin and dogecoin rely on server farms that take a ton of energy (and are usually run with electricity, which at least in the US and a lot of places means coal, AKA fossil fuel/carbon). So they're all pretty bad for the environment, but for all I know ethereum could be even worse.

So how is your day going?
Something that might help anyone with negative body image is remembering that before you can get to "self love" you have to get to "self neutrality." Instead of feeling like you have to look at yourself and say "my body is gorgeous" you can look at yourself and say "my body is keeping me alive. It's letting me enjoy things like the vrg podcast." Try stating facts that are from a nonjudgmental objective angle, because it's often easier to say objective neutral statements when starting from a negative place than it is to say super positive stuff. It's a process. Just about no one can go straight from low self esteem to high self esteem, it's low, a tiny bit less low, neutral, low, neutral, fine, neutral, slightly up, low, neutral (etc) it's rarely a consistent path, but you can get to a general destination eventually. Y'all got this!!!

Kurtis!!! Since you brought it up again and probably didn't see my comment last time; I highly suggest trying Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo. It's not something you replace your normal products with, it's more of a treatment. After only a few treatments I haven't had dandruff since. I've read some people use it for treating dry facial skin/break outs too.

Mowed lawns are ugly and disgusting, not to mention they are incredibly shitty for the environment, mowers arent regulated and actually produce more carbon than cars do, and the monoculture that is grass provides absolutely no nutrients to the surrounding environment. If you want a good looking lawn and want to be good for the environment, get native wild flower seeds and let them grow as wild as possible,, not only does it look absolutely stunning, but it feeds an abundance of wild life, i hate mowed lawns,, they actually anger me because truly, they are only a product of the once very wealthy, they are only considered nice because of share holders that work within the weed killer industry, most "weeds" are actually very beneficial and native plants.. i unironically hate monoculture lawns, please,, plant wildflowers in your lawns instead of having a mowed monoculture,, it requires far less work and is 100x better for our earth.. the only weeds that exist are invasive species, dandelions have been naturalized, you dont need to fight them so hard, they are good things, they pull up nutrients from deep soil and feed native pollinators, "weeds" are a myth, unless we are talking about truly harmful species.

They still make the old-fashioned lawnmowers without motors where it's just a circle of grass-cutting blades with a handle that you push; my mom has one. Obviously depending on your health/body that may not be accessible, but for people who can physically use a push-mower/manual mower, it's a good idea environmentally.
The only time you really should weed something is if it’s choking out your garden, but you just pull them out, no chemicals required. Weeding a lawn is weird, like, it’s all green so what’s the problem?
Also can I just say, raking leaves up before the first snow is terrible for your lawn? The fallen leaves literally protect the grass from snow damage and it’s like every boomer doesn’t know that.

@@GreenAndGoth basically instead of providing a good public website for us to get appointements they decided to rely first on a private website (that was already popular) but then a engineer created an app on which you could follow the evolution of the pandemic and vaccination. And now this app tells you if there is a appointement available near you... thankfully you don't have to pay to use their services but yeah government did absolutely nothing but mistakes again and again.
