The Funky Chicken was my favorite! Even did the FC with Rufus Thomas!
I wanna time machine to go back to feel the essence of the crowd
Get around some old folks. They'll show you what's up
Soul Train should be a Course in African American Studies. It's definitely Black History!
✌
Agreed!
Undisputed.
Hell Yeah
Yes. It should be. I loved watching Soul Train on Saturday mornings. Just to see classy, sassy ladies and oh so cool dudes getting down with the dance moves was alright. Its funny because people still do the soul train line at parties.
Rufus was a plumb fool! My mama had those old Stax records!
I 💘 being black. 💖💖💖💖
Right on Right on
It's a beautiful thing! it's a beautiful thing! (Keith Murray's voice).
Like James Brown said,, Say it loud I'm Black and I'm Proud (Right On)
"Ain't I'm cleannnn?!" Rufus was the best scene on Wattstaxx
Soul Train was the Best Dance Show of all Times 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Yes it was! It was truly the hippest trip in America!
RIP Don Cornelius and RIP to the world's oldest teenager aka Rufus Thomas, you gained a new fan!!! Rest in heaven. I can't wait for the premiere to drop in one week!!!
@YES I SAID IT!! Put it in its place and time. There was a time when you would find 30, 40 and 50 year old men with teenage and 20 year old women and people didnt blink and please know, older women in their 30s and 40s often kept company with guys in their teens and 20s as well. This was common in black communities as in others. Society only pretended to care when young white girls would show interest in older black male celebrities like Chuck Berry or Sam Cooke.
That was Bobby Brown playing Rufus Thomas i loved it💯
My cousin Rufus RIP...he did a free concert for us when I was little back then...so much fun.
Tia Simmons he’s actually your cousin?
@@jakobdinerman3838 yes. He was my grandmothers 1st cousin.
I love my black people we just so beautiful them black were so beautiful back in 70s I wish I was born back than I love the clothes and dancing 😍❤️❤️😍
Rufus was the man! Proven that age was nothing but a number !! He was funky and a man of dance!! Soul Train had it going on back in those days!! Glad I grew up back then!!♥️😍☺️
Junior High Schoolers were dancing furiously to this record in '72…and Rufus was close to 55!!! With the exception of James Brown with "Static", This feat may never be duplicated again
Was that Bobby. Playing Rufus😂😂
Yep..😂😂
Yes Kudos To The Makeup Artist Bobby Looked Like Rufus To a Tee
That jumpsuit had me dead 🤣🤣🤣!
😂😂
That jumpsuit reminded me of mustard bottle and Bobby’s head look like James Evans.
We Will Never Ever See Another Celebrity, Like MR. Rufus Thomas, Being Introduced, By None Other Than The Late, Extraordinaire, Mr. Don Corneilious.................
will always remember his daughter Carla Thomas and her classic songs Gee Whiz(Look At His Eyes) and B_A_B_Y
@@lajas46😲 THAT'S His Daughter? WOW NEVER KNEW That!!!
The 71-75 period was the greatest hands down!!! It looks like a house party!! @2:45 🔥✊
I ❤ it!!! The70's the best decade hands down!! Rufus was the truth!! He was in his 50's getting down! Pure SOUL came out of the 70's 🎙🎼❤🎹🎸🎷📻🎧🎺🎺🥁🕺🏽💃🏽

#American Soul The Soul Train Movie Brought me here😊
Me too😂😂
I wanted to see if that female dancer got on stage, like on the mini series...
Kwame sampled this track. “It’s the man we all know and love” in the late 80’s
and the grain by ghost face killah
R.I.P Don Cornelius!
He was badd dude!!
It's crazy how all the dancers are in sync with each other!!! My pops was lucky as hell to be around during them days!! He said the late 60's and throughout the 70's were his best years as a teen/young adult. He had alot of fun!
You're father is right. I absolutely loved growing up in the 60s & 70s.
YES, I WAS THERE, BLACK PEOPLE BACK THEN WERE IN SYNC BECAUSE THAT WAS THE WAY OF OUR CULTURE BACK THE IN THE ( 60S AND 70S ), PROUD TO BE BLACK, DANCED TOGETHER AS ( ONE ). LOL, LOOK AT THE CULTURE ( TODAY ), WHO LIVES AND WHO WILL DIE😀😀😀
Eazy E sampled Rufus Thomas's the break down on his song Eazy duz it..bad beat..love it
That's Dr Dre sample and production but you are right about it on Eazy Duz It
Rufus Thomas is so funky even the Soul Train sign was movin to the groovin especially at 2:24 ! Great performance by the grandfather of funk, Rufus has proven you're never too old to be funky and he certainly cut a lot of real cool funky dance grooves during his career!
Had the pleasure of seeing this man mr. Rufus Thomas at the Watts s t a x 1972 what a time we had he put on a great performance rest in heaven mr. Rufus Thomas
I wish I could have been there. I have the Wattstax DVD (and it is amazing) but it does the actual festival no real justice.
He switched from entertainment to crowd control in a heart beat. I noticed in a few of his performances he was always scanning the crowd. I think he's just a natural father.
I don't remember Thomas at all however Bobby Brown did an awesome job recreating "Rufus Thomas" 🤣🤣😂😂
A day later and I’m still walking the penguin! People still had common sense back then! It will be a Plum pleasing pleasure and a positive pretty privilege to perform for you! Gon witcha bad self Rufus!!!!
Bobby as Rufus Thomas Academy Award goes to Bobby Brown 🏆👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😄👍well done Bobby
I was born in 1964 soul train come out in 71 i believe. I was 7 bby Soul train was our heaven!!
Back when Soul Train actually had soul!💞. Also, older artists were respected and acknowledged; a practice that desperately needs to be reinstated, because today they are relying on these awful kids, manufactured by Disney and talentless hack producers! That's why music today sucks so bad! Soul Train is a classic, and its legacy will outlive us all.🎶🎙🎶📻.
Rufus was a party we did all the dances to his songs Funky Chicken and Break Down were tops for me 😂
First Played On Soul Train On October 23 1971
I cant wait too see bobby brown as rufus Thomas boy is that gonna be funny
You missed it
Just noticed how Rufus had some great alliteration going on😍
Sounds soooooooo good. The live version of breakdown is INCREDIBLE.
I watched Soul train faithfully every Saturday morning , as a little girl, I learned how to dance from this show, so many good memories.
Slowly black people were pulled apart. We help each other more. As a 6 year old kid I was lost playing outside the area the neighborhood got together and looked for me. I still remember that.
I sure wish it was like that now.But those days are long and gone sadly
Ced Bigby we are still alive and well
I'm a white 55-year-old, soon 56, and I constantly point out that when I was a kid growing up in the 70s, people looked out for one another. Not now... It's a mad, mad, mad, world that's so cutthroat. I just wasn't raised that way.
Love his spirit and he loved us as kids and had us having a good time.
Unlike American Bandstand (which I did love), EVERYONE had the beat on Soul Train !!!!!!!!!!!!
The 70's was the best of the best yrs.... 💐RIP Rufus Thomas💐

If it wasn’t for the fact that everyone was doing the same moves and too choreographed, I would’ve thought it was a real Soul Train episode!
This is the real Rufus Thomas.
