They are really singing with a background track. Edna adding some sauce on it. Love it! Rest in peace Edna.
I noticed that
When talent was real talent
They were singing for real.
RIP Edna Wright, thank you for entertaining us so beautifully. What a voice and what a talent!!!
What an amazing voice gifted by God. R.I.P, Edna Wright
Edna wright had/had a famous sister, Darlene Love
@@davidrichman8468 damn that makes a hella lot of sense!!! I was trying who Ms Wright sound likened to. Of course, Ms Love they have similar soul stirring ,gospel flavoured, gritty, rounded voices
I'm not going to lie this song is lowkey fire 🔥🔥🔥
High key my dude
High key indeed🙋♂️
I use to break my Mothers needle on her record player when she left playing this song
firrrreeeeee
Absolutely high key!
They used to play the mess out of this song on the radio! I was maybe 6 or 7 and remember it well. We used to sing "extra, extra, read all about it, young, single and free". Great memories!🤗
My childhood! This (with American Bandstand) what we had before MTV, BET & VH1. It was required part of a kid's Saturday tv viewing after your favorite cartoons, eating your favorite cereal in front of the tv, occasionally pausing to get up and dance your little legs off 😂
Three foxy and talented ladies! Artists of today and of the future - hit the replay button and take lots of notes!!!
This Is When Music🎶Really Meant Somethin Unlike 2day(Back Then U Couldn't Control Da🕺🏾Soul!!!!🎵)
Nowadays most kids have no soul! So sad

R.I.P to R&B legend Edna Wright. Her music will live on in the hearts and minds of us who enjoyed her soulful sounds.
I have this on my45 I was a little girl when this came out I was living in HARLEM back in the good Ol'days 1969/1971 this song flew to#1
I remember hearing my mom talk about soul train can't wait to see the 🎥
You wii.like it😊💃🏽
Her facial expressions got me tears lol
That little dance break gave me everything I needed!!! 🙌🏾😍
Edna Wright singing LIVE go on Girl......tearin' it uo! DM
One of my favorite songs to sing at karaoke!!!
Its crazy......I heard this song as a child all the time ....but I just heard it today 40 yrs later.....this is so dope
Wanted young man Sngle & Free"....Oh Yes I could relate to that back in the day!
Can't wait for American Soul
Don Cornelius, life story
Remember the song, a great, catchy pop tune, and what a voice -- was not a regular viewer, but used to watch Soul Train occasionally -- fun show -- great memories -- unfortunately that America no longer exists
Yes I’m an old soul 23 years old. IDC THIS SONG WILL ALWAYS BE FIRE🔥🔥🔥Grew up on it since childhood
I have this on my soul train DVD my dad out me on to them my favorite song is STICK UP (HIGHWAY ROBBERY) omg luv it......HEARTBREAK IN THE FIRST DEGREEEEEE
I'm mad they deadass made the beautiful dark skinned one in the middle, lightskinned for the series. First Kelly, with her "Glee" version of 'Midnight Train to Georgia'. Now this. Y'all have one more strike BET. Lol
yep she was beautiful and dark, no reason to alter that.... 0_____0
Who is the light skin actress who played the dark skinned lady?
That pissed me off, l stopped watching after 3 or 4 episodes, it was truly pathetic how they WHITEWASHED EVERY THANG
B.E.T. = BULLSHYT, EVERY TYME!!!!!!😔🤮🤬
oh my goodness Mary Mary has a gospel song out that has the same beat and some of the same runs in it I knew it sound familiar all of the new music is just old music remix
Deserae Ward yesssss finally somebody agrees
Yep! I was in the car with my Dad listening to Sirius XM radio and he had it on a old school station and this song came on. It was my first time ever hearing it, but I felt like I knew it. Then it hit me! Mary Mary sampled Honey Cone for Heaven (one of my favorite MM songs). They even had the lead singer in the video! I love both these songs now as if I grew up with Honey Cone AND Mary Mary lol
YES on their 3rd cd HEAVEN is the title of the song by Mary Mary. DM (Clairton,PA. @ Pgh,PA.)
That’s because MaryMary’s “Heaven”samples this song
There is no real new music these days, at least on the radio.
Edna Wright... Gutsy, gritty slept on vocalist. I've always enjoyed Honey Cone.
Grew up watching Soul Train from it’s inception
RIP Edna Wright 🌹🕯️🌹
Cuffing season been going on
Love this ,make’s you. remember the good old day’s when we were young! Now we are old and gray ! Just remembering how we used to feel when we were younger!!!😊😢❤❤
Classic
There was a lot of Soul in the Early 70s. Thanks to Don Cornelius with Soul Train, those Soulsters and the Dancers gave off the Culture of Our People.
Alright now throw in the Group 3 Degrees
The fine brown skin sister in the middle, is played by a light skin woman when they recreated the performance for _American Soul_ just saying. I'm still gonna watch. Two weeks to go!!!
Yes I seen that, that irks me cause I'm sure they are plenty of brown skinned singers they could gave found for the role but I digress I hope it's still good and the lady in the middle her name is Carolyn Willis she was a fine one Indeed
Wow. Black women continues to be disrespected, I'm disgusted by this.
Charisse w she’s still black just lightskinned chill the lead singer is yellow as hell and y’all don’t say shit
@@saintjay8058 your comment doesn't even make sense. Why would the complaint be about the actual lead singer skin tone? They're talking about the erasure of the Carolyn Willis' dark skin in the TV show. Representation of dark skin women is just as important as anyone else's.
@@Musicblue22 Was Carolyn Willis the one who had been in the Ikettes before this?
THAT VOICE! Edna! This sounds like it might’ve been live. (not super common for Soul Train.)
Of course it was
The lead singer reminds me of Dorinda Clark.... voice and looks.
She does!!!
WOW...I was 10yo when this was released...great memories of family gatherings dancin to this jam!!! ✊🏾💕💕
This is live singing rare for the first performances on Soul Train love it
Live performances on ST weren’t rare
@@dchi2012 them singing live and not lip syncing was rare there is a soul train documentary that said the same thing
I’ve seen the documentary and they said they had the option of either sing live to be different from American Bandstand. I can easily name 10 performance during the first 6 seasons they were either live vocals or a full band
Oh wow.I was just 11 years old when these beautiful people performed bit I listened to even when I turned 16!
The lead singer was Erica & Tina, aka Mary Mary aunt..When she passed recently Erica mentioned on her IG page that this is the beat they sampled for Heaven.
I love this song!
I’m puttin in my want Ads for 2022
Great song and group..

They used this for a commercial recently. If you don’t know this song you would miss it. Love this song and music period!
No autotune needed - singers singing! 💯
I like it
I deadass read the title wrong smh 😂😂
😂😂😂 right
The title is bad, it's not just you lol. Quotations around "Want Ads" would've been helpful!
I REMEMBER 🔆THE HONEY🍯CONE💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾🔆

Live Singing
How dare you eat me
This is where Mary Mary got their song from I want to go to heaven
Yes indeed
R.i.p Edna Wright
I wasn't even though of still in Paradise
Most ignored vocalist I can think of. Her vocals on their hits were amazing. I put her up there with Tammi Terrel, and that's a small group.
Beautiful black women all natural
Mary Mary sampled this for their song Heaven
Edna Wright 1944- 2020
First like
So UK soul train got the live singing ?
Interestingly distinct like Texas very own Destinys Child
Aw stop with that destiny child really?
Classy and Sexy... These singers today feel they have to show their bodies. So much insecurities in this world today.
Mary Mary sample this song
⚡️⚡️✨️🕊✨️⚡️⚡️
👉🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Women were real back then
She's more talented than the clown women today
All for the cheaters
Where are the back up singers and dancers? Yeah! they didn't need them!
Do y'all black folks have this much energy in real life "fighting for ya rights" in the streets as y'all have here?? Or do y'all JUST save it for UA-cam....and then move on to the next video? 🤔😁😂
We so lazy nowadays shit we would not be able to keep up with these girls in 1971.
I like it
RIP Edna.
