    Interesting video, thanks. I replaced the shower head on my 8 year old Mira Play some time ago but only recently realised that this head had an off switch in addition to narrow and wide. Seemed like a good idea as more convenient than switching the whole unit off and on when using it to clean the shower cubicle. However when I did switch the head off the hose got very hot and the combi-boiler reported a problem and switched off. I reset the Worcester 4000 boiler (easy) but then the shower unit would not heat water at all. Turns out a unit component (thermostat?) blew. Mira service was great, choice of replace the component or replace with a complete new unit. I chose the latter. Mira only cost £100 in labour - much cheaper than finding a local plumber - though the new unit from Mira was a little more expensive than from e.g. Screwfix.
    Lesson learned - do not use an "Off" option on a shower head with an electric shower; a gravity shower unit should be OK though.

    thanks James, one of the things i always see listed is the rate of flow against the pressure of the water, how does this relate to the kW of the shower itself?

    cool video, one thing I'd like to know though is what one is just as good as or just as powerful as a mains mixer shower? one that actually matches a good mixer shower, would it be that first one you pointed out, the power shower electric? nothing worse when someone is like, "yeh great shower same as a mains mixer" then it's just worlds apart with not much force coming out like a caravan effort lol.

    Thanks for all that information. My shower still works but the case has broken away from the wall, it's a 10 year old mira. So unfortunately I've got to have a whole new placement shower but looking at your video they have all changed/ improved. Good to learn about the importance of the cable size. When they fitted my old one the cable overheated ( from a reputable plumbing company too )😮 which are better mira or triton? Thanks great video.

    Did you miss mains cold feed or did I? I have a 0.6 bar pressure on mains feed cold. Can I use a pumped electric shower on that or is it tank only?

    • @plumbworldYT
      @plumbworldYT  8 місяців тому

      Thank you for your question! Pumped electric showers aren't suitable for connecting directly to a cold mains feed. You can use a standard electric shower with a pump though, providing you're not using a combi boiler. If you do have a combi boiler then a higher kilowatt rating of electric shower may well give you a bit of a boost as it'll be able to heat more water faster, but you would need to be mindful of the electrical cable that's being run to it. Too high of a kilowatt may result in overheating of the cables which is dangerous.
      The only other advice we can offer is the potential to upgrade your boiler. Conventional and system boilers are compatible with power showers which use a built-in pump for higher pressure.
      In situations like this, we would always advise that you speak with a qualified installer who can take a look at your setup. They'll then be able to advise on the best course of action for your particular situation.

    My electric shower has stopped working which was in the house when we bought it. Never had an electric shower before so I’m not 100% what sort I should be looking for. I have a cold water tank in the loft and boiler with separate hot water cylinder so I’m taking it that I have a low pressure gravity fed system. The water pressure downstairs is great, upstairs not so good but ok. Now do I just need a normal electric shower or a pumped electric shower?

    • @plumbworldYT
      @plumbworldYT  Рік тому

      Thank you for your message. From your description, it sounds like you might have a gravity system which means you should be able to install most shower types (mixer, digital, electric, or power showers). We would, however, recommend checking our website and speaking to a qualified installer about specific models as compatibility varies between brands.

      A shower should well exceed 4 years. I wouldn't be going for the same brand if I'd had to replace the previous one within the first 7 years. My Mira advance is 8 years old, I have a wife and 3 girls so trust me when I say it gets well used.
