Great video. Power shifting is so cool. Remember roaring around in a buddy's 440 6-pack 4-speed Cuda many years ago. Had the pistol grip shifter. So much fun to power shift thru the gears.
Looking forward to the next episode Ed. 😉 I had the Liberty Pro-shift T5 in mine long ago. Man, that thing was aces to drive and shift. 10.78 @122 on nitrous. Blast to drive with the stick.
Great video. I tore into my buddies 4+1 4 times. The case is the weak point for them and spreads as the gears climb each other. When that happens..teeth go missing. Usually it was 2nd gear that went. I'll have to try liberty? The trans needs some parts to be perfect. It still can't handle more that 450ftlbs though. It's the street version obviously. The motor in the car makes well over that, so that has alot to do with it.
@@The_Performance_Laboratory What do you thin about the following. I leave 1st with synchro... 2nd 3rd and 4th are dog engagement, 5 and 6 are synchro. I will be using this on the street so 1st should be very convenient normal and cruising in 5th and 6th will be also stock feeling. but most pulls and launches are shifting into 2 3 and 4. and by the end of 4th I am way over the speed that I should be going I think this is very reasonable, what do you think? cheers.
@@The_Performance_Laboratory did you notice a difference in the clunk sound when you go on/off throttle between the proshift and the dog engagement? I know dog engagement clunk a lot in street driving due to the large gap between the teeth when you go of throttle, but does the proshift also do that? because it has smaller gap
What kind of prices are you getting from Liberty? I have an old DN4+1 and its nearly impossible to find NOS parts for it (Richmond carried some for a while - no longer). At what point do you bite the bullet and buy a G-Force or Liberty 5 speed? Since your running stock eliminator, you have to keep the 5 forward gears right?
As far as I can find, Liberty's is the only game in town for replacement Doug Nash (race) trans parts, and their prices are typical for this kind of racing stuff. If you have a street Nash 5 spd, I don't know anywhere to get parts. Converting the rest of my gears to face plate, and fixing any other breakages (several times over), will still be much cheaper than buying a complete LSC5000 or GF5R. But at some point, I might have to. And I don't run the car in NHRA class anymore, but yes I could run 5 forward gears since the original T5 had 5. You can run less though, so 4 speeds are common in Stock and SuperStock cars that were originally 5 speeds.
I started with a Ford Motorsport clutch upgrade, but went through a whole bunch of different things as I learned (the hard way) about clutches. Video on clutches coming up hopefully next...
I have an opportunity to purchase a pro shifted doug nash 5 speed with dog rings and straight cut gears for my drift car. Im curious as to the street driveability / downshift capability if i have it face plated? Not much info out there on the web.
You won't notice much difference between Pro-Shifted vs Face Plated on the street. Both are unsynchronized, so they're both going to be very harsh on the street, and require driver skill for rev matching on downshifts. For upshifting with minimal harshness, double clutch the upshifts too.
Good question. It was legal when I raced in NHRA classes in the '90s and '00s. Not sure now, but since I'm not running in class anymore, and the car doesn't go quicker than 11.49, it's not a problem.

my knowledge is pretty small on stick transmissions. This was a GREAT video man, answered questions I didn't know I had haha

Thanks for the excellent info! Love your content. Very informative : )
It was the Old-School Fox content that popped the Interest. I just Subscribed. :)
Great presentation!
I'm feeling the power shifting withdrawal too!
Good stuff keep it up bud.
Thanks man ! That was awesome
Nicely done.

Cool video! One minor point, on an upshift the sychros are having to slow the next gear/input shaft down, not speed them up.
You're right. Not sure where my head was there.

@@FirstLast-tx3yj yeah, that's a great plan. The "backup" trans for my GTO still has a synchro in 1st, and pro-shifted 2-4.

@@The_Performance_Laboratory, sweet thanks bud. I think with your channel you have a lot of insight and experience that normal Joe's are looking for.

@@The_Performance_Laboratory Thank you Sir.
Ideally in the right direction 😂
Hope you're doing good man. It's racing season. Lol. Haven't seen a vid or update.
I'm still here (thanks for asking), just battling other problems. Hopefully the next video will be done in a few weeks.
@@The_Performance_Laboratory I know you mentioned health problems before.. glad to hear you're still around. Lol
Looks kinda like a Harley Davison transmission face tooth .
Very similar to how the bikes do it.
Face tooth fever. (-:
