I literally screamed in frustration when I saw the Spartan player pull his general back like that. It would have been better to send up other units to solidify that battle line; falling him back? Without support? That was just stupid.

@@panthercombo7263 That's fair, Warscape really punishes unsupported retreats when compared to other Total War engines. Hopefully, he's learned from that.

I thought that must have been a mis-click. But then again, his micro wasn't quite there, those 2 units of hoplites by the wall stood out their entire fights after Macedon attacked him.

There is no other computer war game i know , were the players have so little idea about military tactics than RTW2 . Nice commentary !

Most war games are truly about the metas of the game, not as much of the realistic military tactics as they may not be as good as they were irl in a computer game

41:04 damn that animation charge dive of one Thorax Swordsman on the lower left camera to the pikeman is one of the best animation of total war. Cant understanf why Rome 2 is such a hated game
Rome 2 had two critical hills to overcome. The first was the atrocious launch. The game was considerably buggy when it was first released, and that earned the ire of the Total War community.
The second hill was comprised of the people who played Rome 1 back in the day and couldn't shake off their nostalgia for the original.
Don't get me wrong, Rome 1 was great for its time. However, Rome 2 improved on it in every way (once all the bugs were fixed of course).
That was a great battle. I learn a lot watching these replays. Plus I like your analysis of the games. Nice stuff Apollo.
Honestly, this was the most hilarious video that you ever posted, Apollo, in my opinion. Reasons are that both your commentary and the actions of the players were just very funny to listen to.

Awesome as always, Rome 2 was probably my favourite in the entire series.
its funny how Apollo has said many times before that Spartans don't have killing capability when almost all the spartan units had over 200 kills
You gotta remember, arverni may have lost 20% of its troops, but so did baktria and you can not face down macedon with a weakened force.
The difference is that Arverni lost Archers, losing cav inst as bad in a Siege
@@PixelatedApollo1 vety true, plus baktria had spartans at their back to reinforce.
This is one of the most exciting battles ive ever seen. Hats off to Egypt and Athens on a great game

I love 3v3 s. So many different ways games could go. I recall a 1212ad game where a player won on a flank but got recked pretty hard yet tried to be as much of a nuisance as possible to prevent his ally in the center from getting overrun.
Once in a siege battle, me and 3 rookie players had to defend the city. I played sparta and the other three played epirus,seleucids and macedon. But they were so inexperienced that we barely won.the reason why we won is because the attackers ran out of time since there were literally eight units of pikemen(two per faction) on the field of battle

Honestly that was a such a big mistake by the Athenean player to send in that picked hoplites unit at 45:00, could've cost the defenders the game whilst having it in the pocket.

Little bit older video I know, but I'm watching it now and commenting because I knew it to be pointless throwing several units into a chokepoint, but I didn't know the troops actually exhausted even when they're not engaged in the fighting. That thought never crossed my mind, so thank you for making me slightly better at Total War lol
