I think many missed the Arverni archers stationed on the wall who had a nice angle on Spartans. Good teamplay. Lusitani player managed to pull off the classic tactic of making the opponent commit most of the forces into an indecisive stand off and then slowly whittling them down with a fire superiority. Maybe with more aggressive playstyle the situation could've been salvaged by the Spartans.
I think the Lusitani Scorpion helped as well
Yeah. They concetrated fire on the heavy Spartan units. I find it hard to believe that few slingers and a light cavalry flanking would demolish Spartan units like that.
Arverni Archers from the walls and the scorpions that was brought outside went out all against Sparta.
We came to the decision we we weren't satisfied with the gate selections, so we made our own back gate 🤣🤣

Seeing hastati and armoured legionaries side by side hurts my soul. How dare they cross the timelines! Also the combat in this game is so much better to watch than warhammer fights. Just actual matched combat animations.
I used to use a flip phone a few years ago and i felt like a hastati surrounded by legionaires (smart phones)
Lusitani is actually a pretty decent faction for a sally out usually especially if combined with another cav faction, they got javs on all their units and they are a glass cannon faction meaning high atk and melee stats and low armor which would be mostly irrelevant in a sally out

The Lusitani are my favorite barbarian faction, for someone inexperienced it may seem like a weak civilization due to the low armor of its units (in this case the Arevacis are a more balanced faction and with more options), but at the same time they have the best melee combat statistics of the game, with an attack that surpasses most of the elite units, added to his guerrilla skills; That is why it is spectacular to see veterans like in this repetition using the Lusitani, because in expert hands it is the best faction to beat the most popular civilizations in the game.
On the other hand, I think you are underestimating the Iberian Slingers, especially the Balearic ones, because they are the best slinger units in the game and there is no archer that can beat them (added to the fact that they destroy units with a lot of armor); so when you play against the Arevacis and Lusitani, the best countermeasure is to take out slingers too or even cheaper archers, so you can beat them by outnumbering them, since in a confrontation between two projectiles units against each one of Iberian slingers, you can win relatively easily (using expensive archers against them is suicide, as was shown against Sparta). =D
Doesn't help Sparta when they shoot at the swordswomen instead of the slingers.
0:31 yea no. Greeks, whom Romans admired to no end, definitely weren't barbarians in Roman eyes, so in this match up Spartans certainly and Bactrians conditionally (leaders, soldiers of Greek origin) would be considered civilized by Romans (officers at least.)

Yeah Sparta should have been the first in the city attacking and just holding defending as there ally's pored in... Sparta very hard faction to attack with especially in the cell open field... you have to rush your men in there and start fighting... crazy 4slingers

If romans full charged their brawlomaniac madlads to lusitani and not giving any chance to their slingers to sit back and spraying their pebbles, while sparta and baktria taking on the other two it would have much better chance for attackers

Those balearic slingers do alot of damage. And they get rediculois with rank. In a 1v1 they have enough ammo to sling the whole battle. Yall all just witnessed proper use of high tier slingers.
UA-cam's algorithm finally gave me a notification and I'm glad it did. Was an awesome battle replay being narrated by you Apollo. Been a little while since I got any notifications though and so busy I haven't been able to sit down and really watch.
Those are high tier slingers with Lusitani: shields to deflect arrows and high AP to bust through armored infantry. It would have been better for Sparta to attack the sally out and force the lesser armored Lusitani to retreat inside.
Greeks considered everyone else a Barbarian, we just let Romans into the club.
They most definately didnt think of us as Barbarians, quite the opposite i believe.

In the beginning the spartan cretan archers should have keep on shooting those slingers ! those slingers decimated the spartan hoplites . In history on one point the greek city states invested more and more on peltasts because they ruind all hoplites .
Those slingers have shields - excellent anti-archers.
Technically the Romans also considered the Greeks to not be barbarians.

That Spartan army got wrecked... TBH tho not much they could've done without help. They were out gunned by missiles. Honestly what I would've done is wait till the Lusitani sallied out, then gather all my cav on the far right to flank, then rush forward with the hoplite units to pin them down. The cav would be able to mop up the slingers easily. Sparta needed help. Better yet, should've swapped positions with Rome. It all went to shit once someone shot that section of wall down...

Its because the spartan player has no idea what he's doing he put none of his hoplites into phalanx formation so they got shredded by the archers so embarrassing
The Spartans definitely got Miss played. They should have Advanced rather than standing around play Target dummies for the stone throwers.
They should have pulverized the sortying army with elements from all three elements and then focused their assault along the walls after the 3rd army has been destroyed or forced back into the city

It wasn't really like Romans considered every other nation barbaric, the word "barbarus" comes from Greek (oryginalny "barbaros") and refered to all non-greek speakers who sounded like "bar-bar" to the Greeks. Romans adopted the word and always considered Greeks as civilised, but not always the other way around, at the start Romans as an conglomerate of Latins, Samnites, Etruscans etc. were considerd barbaros up until the Roman conquest of Magna Grecia in 3rd century BC

the attacking force looked like a complete $hit show. once Sparta got deleted they shoulda called it a day. you almost need a re replay of the sally out and crushing of the Spartans.
