    -----------------------------
Upholstery webbing elastic straps are mostly used in furniture. They are fastened to a wood frame by using staples.
They have come to replace zig-zag and coil springs to a certain extent because the fastening process is really faster.
Its usefulness has spread to the automotive field. Regularly these straps are fastened to the car seat metal frame by using an additional square U shape whose ends go into holes all around the metal frame.
These clips should be made out of hard steel.
As I did not have those clips at hand I have found a practical way of attaching the webbing straps. A steel wire goes inside the bags which were sewn previously. The strap ends were fastened with truss head screws.
The straps should be cut shorter (3 to 5 cmm less)than the real measure between the frame tube sides.
If this strap is stretched too much there is the risk of tearing if somebody sits over the seat abruptly. A close weaving of webbing is advisable and a layer of trunk carpet or jute over to even the springing process.
I had to resort to this procedure because the original base support was a rubber panel fastened to the metal frame with metal clips. This panel was thoroughly torn and useless to be repaired. BTW this seat belongs to a MG vintage car.
I hope this information I share is useful for you who watch our educational videos!

A great solution with a metal rod! If I had seen this video a little earlier, I would have repaired the chair using this technology. Many thanks to you for simple but very effective solutions.

Rivets would’ve been far superior than those screws in my opinion and cheaper.😮I think it would’ve been better to melt through your Nylon strapping instead of punching. Less chance of fraying. 😅Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge with me.😊
