This video couldn't have come at a better time! I am doing this same job on my Volvo. Using scrap vinyl to keep certain areas from sticking is something I hadn't even considered. Very smart! Going to try my luck tomorrow. Your videos are awesome and super helpful! Thank you!!!
This is the video I have been searching for. Bought the vinyl today for my BMW E36 door panel inserts. Looks very hard must take a long time to get good at this. I bought enough vinyl to do it over several times, lol. Wish me luck. Great video and craftsmanship.
Tips: If the door panel is slightly curved at this junction line then the material (vinyl or leather) should be stretched just along this line to help the wrapping process. It could be from the center of this line to one side first then to the other side. ua-cam.com/video/BPle8GB9keA/v-deo.htmlsi=KrHv23q_Iv8ckmCw&t=236 To ease the process the vinyl material could be alone stretched over the table beforehand pulling it to the sides several times. It helps to loosen the material giving the desired shape. Just this lower line as mentioned lines above provided it is concave curved. Good luck my friend!!! You are gonna do it!!! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025!!!

@@Cechaflo I cannot thank you enough for responding to me. Thanks for the further advice on my upholstery job. The vinyl stretches some in one direction more than the other. @@jeffreywin584 Interesting concern. The stretch side of vinyl should be laid breadthwise across the panel (Horizontal). The stretch of a 2 way upholstery stretch vinyl is due to the backing cloth that is on its reverse side. It is an elastic mesh/scrim that stretches breadthwise. There are 4 way stretch vinyls which are much easier to handle because they can be pulled in 4 directions. I was just told at a shop that vinyl can’t be applied to a curvy headliner. I know that I’ve seen it done before completed and you’ve just shown the process.
Vinyls are synthetic materials that regularly have a layer of polyurethane on top and a stretch fabric on its reverse side as backing or reinforcement. Vinyls are easier to handle than leather materials. If I use some heat over them they become very elastic. Of course in one direction because the fabric on the reverse stretches breadthwise. There are 4 way street vinyls because the fabric on the reverse stretches in 4 directions.Leather is a natural byproduct from cow hides, harder than vinyls. It also has stretch sides that should be detected in order to place it and cut it, in a correct position for an upholstery project.ua-cam.com/video/dhmCJFpOs_0/v-deo.html In conclusion vinyls are easier to manipulate and give shape. Leathers are harder to handle than vinyls unless we follow certain techniques to stretch it. The heat shrinks the leather material in case of erasing some wrinkles. it is an error that by applying heat the leather would stretch.
