I recently replaced both transmission filters and the fluid on my 2012 Murano with 57,000 original miles. This fixed the slight slipping problem I was having on one specific hill. After driving 200 miles I drained and refilled the fluid again, which should leave me with about 75% new fluid, since a drain and fill only gets about half the fluid.
I used Amsoil CVT fluid, which is both superior to the Nissan OEM fluid and less expensive, to boot. It protects the warranty (exceeds factory specs).
It now responds quicker and no longer slips on that particular hill.

      That’s awesome
That’s all they need if you take good care of these transmission and service them properly they will last a long time.

I Got a used transmission and installed it and its leaking fluid where the engine and trans bolt together. Could this be the torque convertor or the torque convertor seal ? If it's the seal is there a inner and outter seal ? I Cant find alot of information about this thing . Any advice would help. Thanks

I just picked up a 2013 Pathfinder with 163k miles on it,, has the code of "death' so I took a chance on it. Drove it 100 miles home and you could feel it dragging. Did two spill & fills and added two bottles of "Jil-Cat" 100 miles later & car has improved so much I may keep it. By pass the built in Trans Cooler in the Radiator & added a small external cooler. Castrol CVT Fluid seems to work well. I am also installing a inline filter after the cooler. App called CVTz50 allows you to monitor several pids with the CVT, AWD & Engine.

Great upload! I didn't realize there was an internal tranny filter, just the external one. I have changed the external filter a few times already, quite easy. Going to change the internal filter as soon as weather warms up here. My 2010 Maxima currently has 209K miles on the clock. If anyone can change motor oil you can also change cvt fluid too! Easier than changing motor oil. Do a three drain and fill is the rule to changing tranny fluid. Your tranny will thank you!

Yes he's right, 31397-1XE0A is called a gasket -oil pan. Its a two n one gasket with a 10 section filter. Only move that if u feel that that gasket is done not the the filter. That's what BG Transmission Quick Clean is for. Now for that ext filter, yes change it. But if I use a impact gun with 1000-1500 ft-lbs on ya wheel nuts, ur nissan is done. The Nissan Altima changed the body style in 2016 as well. so, there is a big chance the 2016 cvt will fit your 2011 maxima. look at the sensors see if they are the same and sensor locations, also look at the main plug and count the pins in it.

The Nissan Sentra seems to be the weakest transmission. They are smaller and can’t take too much abuse they will go out very quickly. If you look at your manual it calls for fluid change every 30k miles I believe. If you don’t follow the maintenance guide it will go out. The maxima seem to be able to take more abuse and can go a lot longer without fluid changed but it’s recommended to follow maintenance intervals
