The only bolts you take out for the valve body are the ones marked with a "7". The other unmarked bolts hold the actual valve body it's self together. Helpful tip
You sir are THE MAN.. I used all of your videos to teardown my blown up 2003 Nissan Murano tranaxle. I then bought used parts and put it all back together. It is running driving and works better than it ever did.. Thank you so much.... Hal
I agree totally about "You sir are THE MAN". For "question3" sounds honest as the day is long. And his knowledge is far above average. May our Lord richly bless this fine man always.
Hello, pls help. My 2005 Nissan Murano with 150k miles has stopped rolling back and forward. But the engine runs smoothly with no other noises. A shop told me was the transmission and a new one would cost $4800. Could it be something else?
I have an 05 Murano and the manual valve linkage (8:21) has broken off from the top due to an accident. The part that has the bolt broke off with the top part of the sleeve. Is it possible to remove the pan and remove the bottom bolts on the valve linkage and then pull the whole linkage out from the bottom?
+klf186 I cannot give you a proper answer to this question because I have not been faced with this situation. My advice is to try to take it out. What do you have to loose? Take the valvebody down then see if you can pull the manual valve up and out. If you can, then you do not have to drop the whole transmission.
+questioning3 I got the tranny out and I am having a hard time finding a core to pull the shift lever shaft I was wondering if you had a core with a shaft in it that I can buy from you?
2007 Nissan Murano S 3.5L AWD- Took a trip to Utah about a week ago and as soon as we were pulling back into the city we live in, I started hearing a clicking sound. The faster I went, as did the clicking sound. The next day, I decided to jack it up and get under it. I didn't notice anything wrong off underneath. At this point I assumed it was a CV axel. Get a little more than half way across town and my car felt like it was pulling to accelerate (almost like the timing belt/chain skipped a tooth) as I continue to my destination, I pull to a stop sign. As I push the accelerator pedal, I get nothing. I'm moving, but less than what Idle speed normally is. Shortly after, the check engine light comes on and reads code P0746. "Pressure line control solenoid A not functioning properly or stuck off." I cleared the code after the car had sat in the same position for over an hour. Turned it on and drove it to my destination (about 4 or 5 blocks away). Everything, but the clicking sound, was fine. Not slipping or anything noticeable relative to transmission problems. Drove the car a total of 12 blocks upon discovering the code and found that it was almost dry of transmission fluid. A friend of mine and I are going to replace the solenoid and change the transmission fluid and get it back to normal. Like I said the transmission doesn't feel like its done for. He said it should be okay once we replace the solenoid and get new fluid in it and fill it up. Would you agree?
With all of the research that I have done based upon symptoms of a bad line pressure solenoid, is having low fluid or dirty fluid, and the car may be stuck in neutral. Seems to be exactly what was happening and then BOOM, I get that code.
No, I would not agree. I don't wishful think. I try things and see what happens! So, you have your starting point. If it works then you know what it was. If it doesn't, then you know what it wasn't. If the transmission was low, then why do the solenoid need changing?
I have 2007 maxima and need your help, when engine is cool reverse engages immediately but drive delays between 1-2 minutes.when engine is hot reverse delays like same above sometimes less.I have a fluid leak and code P0868 and when internal filter is dirty I have P0746.will servicing the valve body, sealing and fluid change fix this issue.thanks
Hi Urban Adventures. I am pleased as punch that you now completely "rebuild" Nissan CVT's. Here is why: In the fall of 2007, I purchased a brand new 2007 Nissan Maxima with CVT, of course. I have had a terrible experience; in that the transmission from day ONE vibrates the entire car; at low speeds. The dealer, "Gwinnett Place Nissan" in Duluth, Ga; has told me repeatedly there is NO cure for that very "common" problem. So I hate it, but I deal with that, but I really do NOT believe them. Anyway: The car has only 30,000 miles on it and looks like a brand new car, believe it or not; and I am scared to death that my transmission is going to fail; and I will not be able to get mine repaired; without spending thousands of dollars for a rebuilt transmission, that may not work or at lest for very long . There is a 120,000 mile and/or a 10 yr warranty on my transmission. IN September the 10 yrs is up. Thus the 120K then is of NO use, since it was "120K or 10 yr's; which ever comes first". I hope that since your company will now rebuild them; that this means other dealers will rebuild AND/OR repair them also What are your thoughts? Also do you agree that there is NO cure for the vibration at slow speeds (up to 30 MPH); which MANY are complaining about on this model Nissan? Thanks
I have an 05 murano. Driving it one day i heard a loud bang and the car would not move. When it is in gear on the ground the vehicle sometimes does not move and sometimes does. On the lift in gear there is a horrible noise from the tranmission. I think either the bearing or the differential has gone. Any thoughts? Car has 58,000 mls on it.
@@anastasiawatson8262 I have a 05 maurno also an its losing power going up hill we have put a few things on it thinking that would help but it didn't idk what's going on with it
@@Brandi_nicole84 i rebuilt my trans with the help of a co worker. Am a mechanic. Found the primary and secondary pulley bearings bad. I replaced those along with the rear cover since that was damaged by the bad bearings. Also did friction clutches. Fit every thing back today and drives like a dream. Sold it shortly after though as i am a bmw girl at heart
I just changed out the valve body in a 2011 Murano. Not it’s like it’s hung in low gear. In drive it will only run about 35mph at 4k rpm’s . Could I have not installed it right or do you think the reman valve body is defective? Thanks
I have a 2012 Nissan Murano and the only code showing up is Transmission Valve Body Assembly so would I need to remove transmission in order to replace?
I have a question. I have not viewed all the videos yet in this series of CVT repair (but I am surely going to); but so far I have not seen a "planetary gear" in any video that I have seen so far. Is it not true that on a CVT transmission; there is ONLY one Planetary gear set; and its ONLY purpose is to put the transmission in reverse. Am I correct in this; and if yes, where is this Planetary gear set? Thanking you kind sir in advance.
+chris123church Ha ha, we have one in the shop now. They is no best way, there is only one way, and that way is going to take you probably one day and a half because you are not familiar with the process. You are going to have to take things loose from the top. Then you are going to have to chain the motor then take loose things from the bottom. All of this is best shown on a video. However, the video will be long. I have not the time to do this yet.
You only have to take the transmission out. You will have to disconnect things from the top first. Then you will have to chain the motor so that it will not fall out when you remove the frame on the bottom.
+questioning3 Thanks so much I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I bought a used transmission from a wreck vehicle that I'm gonna install into my vehicle. Wish I could fix my old one (wasn't going in any gear) for just in case purposes. But at any rate, I'll keep you posted. I am a pastor of a church and not a mechanic. Just trying to save money and learn at the same time. Again thanks for your free advice. You're a blessing to more people than you'll know. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
I have an 05 murano, the car drives fine, however, when I started to drive, it makes noise,it sounds like a bearing noise, it makes that “ra,ra noise. I checked it, it’s from inside the transmission. Is there a bearing/bearings that can be replaced ? Thanks
There are bearings in the transmission. There is a bearing kit that can be bought. However, the transmission has to come out of the vehicle and disassembled to change the bearings. At that point, might as well do the other modifications.
Hope you can help me I have a 2003 nissan murano with aproxitemly 140 k miles on it when I drive freeway car runs fine only to about 50 miles on hour it does go past just takes a. While . The RPMS Don't Climb Just Sits their, I Restart The Car And Works Fine for a little while until I get on freeway. I have a 05 murano in drive or reverse it moves very slowly even less than 1 mile per hour at 4000 rmp and the cvt slipping, on park or neutral the engine rev normal the murano have 77k miles, no check engine light or codes. What would need to be fixed first?
Hello.. I have an Altima 2009, is the same transmission.. I have a question.. for change the internal oil filter only I need remove all the screws? Or is it past screws? Thanks in advance
Sunbelt is right about the square box. If you don't switch it to the new valve body you may have to have it programmed. I put a Nissan murano transmission in a vehicle and got lucky. Did not need to have it programmed.
I got a 2004 murano with 220k on it and just lately i had it die on me in the winter when it was cold and i ended up replacing the battery and didn't have issues for a few months. Then lately ive had two occasions where once i was sitting outside a buddys talking for a bit with the car idling and when i went to leave it slowly backed out i was thinking it was a lil odd then when i put it in drive nothing was happening i wasnt getting any rpms, if i put it in neutral or park it revved fine. I sat for a minute and shut it on and off it still did it then i revved it up for a lil in park and neutral and slammed it quick and it crept the kicked in power all of a sudden and drove fine, then i just had another occasion today which is like 3 days since the first it cut out when i was at a stoplight late at night goodthing no one was around. And mind you all my power to everything else stays on when this happens, i almost thought i was having alternator problems but idont know since everything else stays powered fine, and ive had a code since ive gotten the car for a catalytic converter but i think im gunna leave it at 230k now, id really appreciate some input and help thanks for your time
hillybillymitch this is a long shot, but I have heard that some have solved problems by changing filters on this transmission. there are two filters. there is one in the bottom of the pan but the one you really want to get to is a small canister type of filter in the side of the transmission. aside from trying this I have limited knowledge on this transmission when it has so many miles. if it was in my shop I would take it apart and look inside for damage. then I would go from there.
Okay thanks for the help, and funny thing is i read the code through the system the other day and all it came back with through the flashes on the dash was code p0000 which means nothing detected.. lol but a week ago i had always had a catalytic converter light on my dash
I have a 2005 murano that just start giving me transmission problems at 149,000 miles, Im just now learning about cvt transmissions and based on the mechanics up here they give me strange looks when i tell them i have a cvt transmission, i will done paying on my car next year in march my question is, is it worth getting fix or just trade it in bcz all im seeing and reading are bad results about cvts
I recently purchased a 2007 Nissan Murano with 182k miles. I do not have any check engine lights on. With the engine in park, I can rev the engine up without problems. When driving, the engine starts to sputter and have some obvious jerking over 2500 RPMs. Does this sound like a CVT issue? If it is CVT related, what are the first steps you would take to pinpoint the problem? (Change fluid/flush, have TCM scanned, ect...) I appreciate any help you are willing to give.
Lauren Cooper changing fluid want help. First, you need to take it to a muffler shop and see if the exhaust is ok, not plugged. If it is determined that the exhaust is not restricted, then romove the transmission pan and see if there is any metal in the pan.
+nemo lopez What kind of oil are you speaking of? Are you talking about the transmission? If you are talking about the cvt transmission oil, use Nissan cvt fluid or any cvt fluid that is compatible. On ebay, their are cvt fluids that you can use.
Bought an 05 Murano back in 2013 with about 70k miles on it. the transmission has recently gone bad at 130k miles. Mechanic says it unrepairable. They're ordering a brand new transmission from Nissan and it cost 3195. The symptoms I had were: the car shook violently when driving at low speeds. The car jumped when shifting between drive and reverse. And when I drive at higher speeds the shaking goes away but the noise turned into a buzz
Hello! awesome video! I have an 2006 murano with P1777, it is supposed to be the step motor, what may cause this step motor to stop working?? the car has 110k miles, it has the P1777 and P1700, would yo be so kind to give some advice? thanks a lot!
You can try to change the step motor. I have seen nissan murano with problems with the pulleys. The step motor is attached to something that follows the drive pulley up and down. If the pulley does not move up and down then the step motor will not do its job. I have seen problems like this. However, this involve taking the transmission out the vehicle and disassembling the transmission.

Hi I've got an '06 Nissan Murano S AWD and had it diagnosed recently. It pulled a code called P1778 and it needs a part called a transmission reverse ip circuit. Can anyone tell me where to find that part or what kind of problem my car has and how much the labor will be to fix it? Thanks!
that description isn't really a part per se. its talking about a literal electrical circuit the system uses. it probably has an "open" or "short" and needs further investigation. what that code means is the car needs to be checked out further in that area to find the circuit problem to repair the circuit. unfortunately what that means is there isn't just some specific part to just buy and replace with a specific dollar amount to handle the problem. you have to have a qualified mechanic check it out further to even know what its going to take specifically to fix it.
I just bought my 2005 Nissan Murano and not even had a month. It was driving fine. Than I went to leave my in laws and it wouldn't move. Once I can it going it will than start to shift and go faster. Is it in limp mode. Do I need a new cvt
questioning3 my 07 nissan versa cvt transmission loss reverse gear what do you think I changed all the solenoid and I still have the same issue I'm thinking about the step motor
+chris123church I don't rebuild this transmission. I only repair it. Now, the reason I tell customers that I repair only is that I cannot get every part of this transmission new, new solenoids, reman valvebodies. If I could get everything new like I wanted to then I would call it a rebuilt unit. Right now, the aftermarket is trying to make some things available, however, they are still slow. As a result, I only repair to get the vehicle running again.
I have a 2002 Nissan Sylphy with Hyper CVT M6 transmission. It has 140k on ODO. This transmission uses Nissan NS-1 fluid and since it's rare, can we use NS-2?
+Got DJi Phantom I will see how much a good used one will cost then I will tell you. Second, a repair will probably be around $3000-$5000 depending on who you are getting it from. I will let you know.
Dear sir, I have nissan murano (year 2006, 90000 miles), and some cvt problems. When the car is cold it works ok, but when you drive it for some time (especially uphill, when transmission gets a bit warmer) it starts to make problems, it doesn't shift gears and it seems to me like it will stop, but when you turn downhill, and the transmission gets colder it gets better, and when you let the car to cool him self completely, it works ok again. As I mostly drive car on short distances, I noticed this problem a few days ago when I went on a longer trip, but the problem maybe exists for a longer period of time. I changed transmission fluid, but the problem remains. Could it be some cooling issues? The car has been tested in official dealer shop and it shows that everything is ok. They said that problem is mechanical and they can only install completely new gearbox. Can I do something or new box is only option? I would be very grateful for any advice.
+SuperTiana85 I take things apart and look at them. The dealer does not do this. It is a waste of time to them. If I find something damaged, then I try to repair it. If you have no service engine light on, then diagnosis is difficult and time consuming. However, I would first have your exhaust system checked. A restricted exhaust can slow your vehicle down. If the exhaust is not the problem, and it is indeed the transmission, the only choices you have are the dealer or and aftermarket shop, if the aftermarket shop wants to take this project on. But remember, the parts are hard to get.
well, the p0725 appears to be a crank position sensor code. You can try to change the sensor, if you do not want to have it diagnosed at a shop. However, you will need a sensor locating diagram to show you where it is located on the vehicle. The p0420 is an emissions related code.
questioning3, so those 3 codes appeared on the diagnostic device when i plugged to my car. do i have to fix all three?? autozone employee said thats for catalytic converter/oxygen sensor, tcm, & crankshaft sensor. he even told me to change the least expensive first which is the crankshaft and he said sometimes it'll solve the problem instead buying a new catalytic converter. is that true?? pls help
no its not. but that's what a free code scan is worth i guess. bad ckp can leave you somewhere needing a tow. tcm could be interesting. why don't you find a competent shop you can trust and ask them?
+Stephanson Tieu You have 3 options. One, put in a dealer reman unit. Two, Repair yours. Three, put in a used one that has low miles, if you can find one with low miles.
Hey I have a 2012 maxima the RPMS over Rev from 2000 to 4000 rpms when I try and pass a car up going 60 mph . .Once it over revs it only goes back down 2000rpms once I let go of the gas for a couple of secs how ever sometimes it stay over rev for the whole ride as in im going 60mph and the rpms are at 4000-5000 instead of 2000rpm any advice? it also over revs when I try to gas the car to make a quick turn or run it for while . . .However if I pick it up slowly I can go up to 65 miles for a while until it over revs on its own maybe 20- 30 min drive or so . help!!
I have a 2012 Nissan Altima, when cruising and acceleration the car a bit slows down and pushes again for two or three times but not heavily, only I notice it cause I drive it. that's one two, when I remove my foot on the pedal but in low speed (30-40 kph) I feel like the car breaks and stops itself but it doesn't happen when I shift to N but happens while it's on D. changed its hydraulic yet the problem persists :/ what could be the problem? thanks
+Soran Mohammed First things first, do you have a check engine light on? If you do, then you need to have the vehicle scanned. There is no guessing with new vehicles there is testing. When people come into the shop I tell them, I don't guess, I test. Let the testing lead you to a problem. So, scan the vehicle first to see if the computer has seen something. Also, how many miles are on the vehicle?
Sorry, I have not experienced this sort of situation before. My suggestion would be to take it somewhere to have a mechanic scan the computer system to check for codes. Also, you may want to see it the braking system is malfunctioning.
Hi all, looking for some opinions on CVT noise - high pitched, whining noise after 30min driving or so. The car was inveloved in rear end accident - quite strong one. I have stopped on the lights and then car hit me from the back at around 40km/h... also i was on the full break as I just stopped - the car was pushed about 1 meter in front. since then the high pitched, whining noise started. Now the insurance company questions this and suggesting wear and tear... is there any thing connecting and disconnecting when the car is stopped and can this mechanism be damaged by heavy impact (rattle like) in the accident? thanks m
That is hard to answer here. Noises need to be hear by the ear of a mechanic. It is best for you to take it to a shop the the mechanic can do a test drive. You may have to leave it for a day.
Wil C Let me tell you something,,again. The dealers that I know of do NOT sell parts for this transmission! They (the dealers) have very little knowledge on how this transmission operates. Therefore, you will not just be able to shop for parts for this transmission as you would others. I try to make this clear. Now question, how many miles are on your vehicle?
Wil C Not many have focused strictly on this transmission (or any cvts for that matter). Welcome, and join the adventure. I will not even began to lie to you and make you think that I am a master of this transmission. However, I am willing to share my experiences and problems and fixes that I have encountered along the way. With this transmission, there is going to be a lot of trial and errors. So, having said this, how would I approach this in the shop? Hmm, I know the code is a pressure code. Furthermore, I also know that problems with pressure that I have experienced have been internal with the pulleys, drums, and bearings, all around 155,000 miles. I have yet to experience one that had a solenoid or a valvebody problem like many other transmissions that I am working on. I guess the easy steps are trying a solenoid or a valvebody (if you can get one) but forever keeping it in the back of your mind that you may need to fix or replace the transmission itself.
Wil C If one can to the shop with 177,000 miles on this transmission, I would not hesitate to do a full transmission disassembly based on what I have seen at 155,000 miles. What prices are you getting for used ones, good used ones with low miles?
This is a vehicle speed sensor code it seems like. However, this is something that will have to be taken to a shop because testing with wiring diagrams, scanners and meters will come into play for diagnosis.
All transmission fail. I don't think there is nothing wrong with the cvt transmission. It works, it will get over 100,000 miles. The problem is when it breaks, no new parts by design of the auto manufactures.
+Tan Er No, I do not. However, this looks like a Nissan murano. It is made by Nissan, I checked. This vehicle is in Europe or in the middle east from what I have read. However, if it was here, I would disassemble it anyway. Look, there are a lot of transmissions made. However, you must realize this important fact, they are all similar in construction. Why, because the principle and physics of what makes a transmission a transmission. As a result, if you fix one, you will be able to fix the other. Just see what is similar when you tear it apart. Now, by this qashqai being a Nissan, it will probably not vary to much from how Nissan makes its cvts.
@@thisisyourtransmission I think Jatco makes their CVT transmissions. Im having P0746 code on 2012 Nissan Altima. +irfan shah On the murano, there are some speed sensors. I would first try replacing the output speed sensor. If you have a scantool, then, you can drive the vehicle with the scantool connected to see if there is a reading.
First , thank you for this best video post .. I have a Nissan Rogue 2008 , which somebody wrongfully diagnosed and told me i need a new transmission . and i ended up buying a new transmission from a Nissan dealer , how ever the funny part is, my car didn't do any better even after the transmission swap . still have same problem . later i took it back to the dealer and they found out the TCM is bad , so my question is 1. HOW COULD I TEST THE CVT THAT CAME OUT OF MY CAR , if it's good or bad with out installing it in a car? 2. do you think just because i switched a new transmission , i have to change a TCM?
First, the best test was in the vehicle. The transmission was changed and the problem was the same. The tcm was changed and the problem was fixed. Therefore, I would hypothesize that the transmission that came out of our vehicle originally was ok. Second, sometimes both have to be switched, depending on the situation. I had an audi that had a bad transmission. It had no reverse. After, changing the transmission, it had reverse but it would not shift. The tcm was bad. However, in this situation, the tcm went bad first and the customer kept driving in failsafe mode until the transmission went bad. In you case, I am not sure if yours was like this situation. This can only be determined by the one who fixes your vehicle. The only way to see if your previous transmission is working is to install it in a vehicle that has a good tcm. If it works, then it was ok.
El problema es que yo le cambie la barilla de cambio del interior de la transmission y ahora cuando se calienta lengo la reverza y no acciona ocea no camina
I have a 2004 Nissan Murano with a cvt transmission an it has gone bad I was offered a 2007 transmisión to replace it.. The mechanic tells me it is a match so just want to be sure and buy the transmission as the donar car has low miles on it.
FREDERICK VON BELTRÁN you need to call an auto salvage yard and ask this question. They will tell you what will fit year to year. They have a book for this.
rkgsd Hello, yes this is a transmission shop. We are in Cleveland Ohio. As far as "knowing my stuff" , well, according to some of the warranty inspectors who come into the shop, not to many shops deal with the cvt transmission. However, I will get into any transmission that is made if it comes my way. Other shops will have to follow because cvts are not going anywhere! The only thing that we will have to start doing is protesting against the auto manufactures for keeping the parts so that aftermarket shops cannot repair these units. The parts not being available is the main issue that drives the price to repair high.
rkgsd Also, I may add, to the transmission rebuilding industry, cvt transmission are relatively new, more so here in America ,although not in Europe. As a result, problems that will make themselves known have yet to do so. Things like valve body issues have yet to be see. However, when they do, valves will have to be made to address the issues. Right now the only thing that we can do is change the whole valve body with a good used one, if we can find one. This leads to chasing used parts. Therefore, I guess that I am one of the few pioneers and pioneers who came into this country had to clear the land, in other words I expect to face hard-to-solve problems in the future!
questioning3 Thanks for the detailed reply.Well guess I'll have to pass on the 2016 Nissan Murano since CVT is the only choice. They can only hold on to it for so long. If they want to survive as a company, it has to go 3rd party repair eventually just like standard trannys. I can't wait until all the long time owners start showing up needing repairs only to find out the dealer has a lock on repairs. That's when the customer feedback will really start to hit them hard.
rkgsd To tell you the truth rkgsd, the car manufactures do not care and since the dealerships are an extension of them, the dealerships do not car also. What is going to have to happen is, people are going to have to stop buying vehicles with these transmission in them. When this happens on a large scale, then they will start to release parts. There are people who are suppose to fight for the aftermarket, I think ASA. However, they are not effective because they go to dinner with the enemy too much. I have a long battle but my goal is to touch as many people as I can about this problem, and help those who are already involved. Throw-away-vehicles is what the manufactures would like to have, and this is exactly what some are doing when part are not available.

Gentlemen: Murano ECVT parts are here. Depending on year-model split. First generation '02~'07 an second generation 08~09 JATCO "JF010E" Xtronic hard parts, rebuild kits and filters are just a Google search away folks. :D My first gen '02's still rolling hard an strong on it's original ECVT. Fluids and filters folks, fluids and filters = CHEAP insurance. (177K+ Miles and not a single Hiccup) You're still SOL on newer generations however. If your third/fourth gen Murano's got a clunky, shuddery, chattering, whining ECVT - better hope it's still under manufacturer's warranty. :/ It will be the only way to get it fixed.
I watched the video to the point that the CVT pulleys were removed. I was waiting to hear: "here is why the CVT failed" and point out severe wear of parts or failed belt, pulley seized on shaft etc. Was pump pressure tested? Was valve body tested? computer? As a casual viewer, I am trying to understand how you were absolutely certain it was the variable assembly as opposed to anything else.
+newjerseybt Ok, let me answer all of your questions. Then, I am going to tell you why I put this video on youtube. First, was pump pressure tested? No. Second, was valve body tested?,No. Third, was computer tested? No. Lastly, you were trying to understand how I was absolutely certain that it was the variable assembly as opposed to anything else. I was not certain. Now, why did I put this video on youtube. I put this video on youtube so that people (including you) can see how to disassemble this transmission. This transmission is new to a lot of rebuilders, some ( and I get this from Insurance/warranty companies) will not touch this transmission. Therefore, I am (and others like me who are not afraid to take this unit apart and make mistakes) a pioneer. As a result of being a pioneer, their are somethings that I will not know, like a lot of answers to your questions. As to the question of how I knew that the variators were the problem with this transmission, when I fixed the variators (only) the transmission worked, and it is still working right now. This is how I know that nothing else was the problem. Now as for me, I am not afraid to take a transmission out to disassemble it, even if it is ok. Therefore allow my pioneering spirit to pave a smooth path for you.
+newjerseybt oK, after contemplation of your questions here is the video that I think that you did not see on this transmission. ua-cam.com/video/LmkIzIbTEAk/v-deo.html . It is the video of the Nissan pulley in this transmission. In this video set, I show what happened to the pulley system.
Great Video, I subscribed, getting ready to work on 2006 Nissan Murano CVT Transmission as well, it’s making a whining noice and sometimes won’t even drive and sometimes it does, I am thinking possibly low on Fluid, I would say it needs an oil cooler but it does not have time to get hot because it’s happening on cold start, I bought it like this, I normally work on my Mercedes Transmission but this will be something different
I never thought much of the idea of a CVT in a vehicle as heavy and powerful as an automobile. They are fine in snowmobile but didn't think they would hold up in a car. Which has been the case. The manufacturers went to them because of cost to make. When they break the repair costs pretty much means the vehicle is scrap. Repair parts unavailable. This is planned obsolescence . Will never buy a car with a CVT.
This code indicates that the secondary pressure is down. It could be bad sensor or pressure lost in the transmission. How many miles are on the vehicle?
@@thisisyourtransmission brother.. Do u think a dodge Caliber transmission will fit the Murano.. Coz my friend had a Murano 2005 and we are about the change the transmission unit next week.. Also pls suggest me which other vehicles transmission or gear assembly will fit the Murano..
Racist car dealerships in Los Angeles only hire Mexicans. After taking Nissan Sentra car to Nissan in Universal City for Warranty engine work, Nissan keeps your car for 6 weeks! Wanted to keep your car for 7 weeks! Air Conditioner worked and radio worked. Got your car out of the shop and neither worked! Nissan makes you pay $550 for a air conditioner part! When asked why your radio does not work, Nissan wants to charge you up to $900! Suspicious, you ask to allow the mechanic to show you your radio. Mechanic opens up the radio compartment and you find out the mechanic unplugged your radio! Mechanic plugged in the radio and it worked! Beware!!!
+Patricia McAllister good and bad people all exist in the same world. The best that one can do is keep an open mind (for the good people) and as much knowledge as one can to ward off the bad.
Nissan took a dump when Renault got involved. CVT's are only one of the many issues. I bet this Murano also suffers from oil consumption, had the timing chain tensioner issue, had cam and crankshaft sensors go bad, had the alternator go bad, motor mounts crap out, transfer case fail, and the engine subframe rust. Nissan makes some good looking cars, the problem is french management sourced junked-out parts from the lowest bidder and these cars become money pits as a result. STAY AWAY!! Carlos Ghson is the CEO of Renault who is now the CEO of Nissan. They will continue to produce junk until people wise up and stop buying junk.
+TruAgape1234 The longevity of the Nissan Murano cvt is not bad. It is the same as I see in other transmissions. The dealer for Chrysler, Honda, Caddilac, gives no more than 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty on their new cars. If A cvt last for 100,000 to 150,000 miles, it has done its job. That is 8 to 12 years of service if one drives 12,000 miles a year. The BIG PROBLEM IS when it breaks, there are no new parts to get to fix it!!! This is by design to make it a throw away vehicle. For this reason, I tell people to not buy a vehicle with a cvt until the parts are there to fix it.
100,000-150,000 miles for a cvt is setting the bar low. Many Toyotas and older Maximas rack up over 200,000 miles on the same transmission. I expect a higher level of reliability, and thankfully their are manufactures that deliver on those higher expectations.
Bills automatic transmissions in Cleveland Ohio. Regarding cvts, these transmissions are relatively new in the market for rebuilders. Although they are simple to repair, the parts are not always available (on purpose by the manufactures) to repair them adequately to be called a rebuilt transmission. As a result, I only consider it a repair. Furthermore, I only repair those that have low mileage. We have yet to understand what wears on these units at very high mileage, I mean parts that are not easily seen (valvebodies) or easy to get (electronics-solenoids and stepper motors).
The CVT is an abomination and should be erased from existence. If I ever get a time machine, I will make sure they don't come to be. Hopefully that time machine doesn't use a CVT otherwise we may have a mess on our hands.
Quentyn73 Not true. Cvt is a good transmission if it is used within its ability. However, the manufactures are hogging all of the parts. This is what makes the situation bad. And because of the manufactures purposely hiding the parts, it is best to stay away from cvts. When people start doing this, they will stop their games.
Quentyn73"cvts will be gone soon". It Is best to live in the now then to speculate about an unknown future. Right now, we have a 2007 Nissan sentra in the shop that needs a transmission, and it is a cvt. So far manufactures are putting them in the later vehicles. So, it is best to be familiar with them and try to master them since they are here.
questioning3 There's no way to master a broken piece of metal. I learned than from "mastering" scooters which have the same exact principle. It reaches a point where you just have to replace everything - pulleys, belt, tension pulleys, bearings, etc. The design of a CVT is to work for no more than 120,000 miles. You can try to master it, it is your choice how you spend your time. I'm just saying that this entire gearbox needs replacing around that time or less. This is going to happen more and more often, and it will be easier to just scrap it all and put a new one right in. But not right now. Maybe after a decade of people like you who would try to master and salvage what's usable and left behind.
Quentyn73 Hmmm, I have seen a lot of cvt lasting 155,000 miles. The cvt although the same in principle as the scooter is not the same in complete design. Bearings are no different in the cvt as in any other transmission. Furthermore, a cvt is simple to fix! There is not many moving parts, clutches, planets, sungears, bands, etc to worry about. This is why the auto industry is keeping the parts hidden. If the parts were available and cheap, everyone would be on the road in no time. Chrysler's warranty is 35,000miles for a new vehicle, and a lot more manufactures have this low warranty. If a cvt will get 100,000 miles, they don't care how you feel. Therefore, master them and make them better.
questioning3 Lasting but at what cost? Servicing every 20,000, being driven on highways only. Nissan extended their warranty to 120,000 but who can say that a NYC tax has 155,000 miles on their cvt. Right now there are some running over 250 with a few trans oil changes and that's it.
Hi, I have a 2006 a S Nissan Murano and it only runs up to 35 miles and about 3.5 rpm and it doesn’t shift up. I took it to autozone to have it scanned but there are no codes and the check light isn’t on. What do you think the problem could be?
Most of the time, 98% of the time, the transmission is bad, if it has a CVT transmission. However, don't trust AutoZone scanner, take it to a transmission shop and have them do a diagnostic.
Hello I just bought an 09 murano. the car when I press on the has will not make the car go faster than 20 miles an hour at 3500 to 4000 rpm. So I quit driving it right away. I took it to auto zone and it came up with some codes. indicating Its the valve body. I was wondering is pressing on gas and getting no gear changing past first a symptom of a bad throttle body.
The p0507 has something to do with the engine. You probably need to have this checked at a quality mechanic shop. The p1777 is a code directed at the transmissions stepper motor, not so sure if they both set at the same time or one after the other. However, the one for the stepper motor means that the computer cannot see any variator movement. It could be the motor or it could be bad variator. It the balls are bad in the variator, then it will throw a stepper motor code. Most change the motor first, then they go the next step, which is removing the transmission. How many miles on the vehicle?
The computer at autozone and a transmission specialist both said it's the item you removed in the video. right now I put some lucas oil stop slip into the tranny to see if it could losen up any of the solenoids and allow fluid to pass through to allow the change to the next gear. right now Its still won't go past 20 to 25 at 4000 rpms with me pushing it which I don't do but to test what I put in it to see if it will change for me. when I start it cold and shift to drive nothing happens at all until a short time later then I would feel the kick of the tranny.I tried it on low gear and still the same thing. I do know if it were anything else besides what you show in the video I would gear noises from the tranny. But right now Its pretty much silent. So I'm going to have somebody take it out and put a volt meter to each solenoid to test if they are giving out the proper voltage. As for the motor. Its fine and in great condition.
The only bolts you take out for the valve body are the ones marked with a "7". The other unmarked bolts hold the actual valve body it's self together. Helpful tip

very welcome
400 miles and great so far
I agree totally about "You sir are THE MAN".
For "question3" sounds honest as the day is long. And his knowledge is far above average.
May our Lord richly bless this fine man always.
Hello, pls help. My 2005 Nissan Murano with 150k miles has stopped rolling back and forward. But the engine runs smoothly with no other noises. A shop told me was the transmission and a new one would cost $4800. Could it be something else?
You probably need a transmission. What are you looking for, a cheaper price?
I have an 05 Murano and the manual valve linkage (8:21) has broken off from the top due to an accident. The part that has the bolt broke off with the top part of the sleeve. Is it possible to remove the pan and remove the bottom bolts on the valve linkage and then pull the whole linkage out from the bottom?
+klf186 I cannot give you a proper answer to this question because I have not been faced with this situation. My advice is to try to take it out. What do you have to loose? Take the valvebody down then see if you can pull the manual valve up and out. If you can, then you do not have to drop the whole transmission.
Thanks I removed the valve body but the manual valve is still connected above it. I guess I might have to drop the whole tranny.
+questioning3 I got the tranny out and I am having a hard time finding a core to pull the shift lever shaft I was wondering if you had a core with a shaft in it that I can buy from you?
are you still working on your transmission?
didn't I tell you the parts are hard to get!
THIS IS YOUR TRANSMISSION my friend just suggested it would be a good idea. I already have the solenoid.
I'm a nissan tech. As of may 2nd instead of R&r cvts we now rebuild them. So now you can by the "sub assembly" and completely rebuild it.
Hi Urban Adventures.
I am pleased as punch that you now completely "rebuild" Nissan CVT's. Here is why:
In the fall of 2007, I purchased a brand new 2007 Nissan Maxima with CVT, of course. Anyway:
The car has only 30,000 miles on it and looks like a brand new car, believe it or not; and I am scared to death that my transmission is going to fail; and I will not be able to get mine repaired; without spending thousands of dollars for a rebuilt transmission, that may not work or at lest for very long . There is a 120,000 mile and/or a 10 yr warranty on my transmission. IN September the 10 yrs is up. Thus the 120K then is of NO use, since it was "120K or 10 yr's; which ever comes first".
I hope that since your company will now rebuild them; that this means other dealers will rebuild AND/OR repair them also
What are your thoughts?
Also do you agree that there is NO cure for the vibration at slow speeds (up to 30 MPH); which MANY are complaining about on this model Nissan?
Thanks
Urban Adventures
I'm in Northern CA and they're not rebuilding them near me.
I have an 05 murano. Driving it one day i heard a loud bang and the car would not move. When it is in gear on the ground the vehicle sometimes does not move and sometimes does. I just changed out the valve body in a 2011 Murano. Not it’s like it’s hung in low gear. In drive it will only run about 35mph at 4k rpm’s . Could I have not installed it right or do you think the reman valve body is defective? Thanks
Why did you change the valve body?
I have a 2012 Nissan Murano and the only code showing up is Transmission Valve Body Assembly so would I need to remove transmission in order to replace?
The transmission does not have to be removed to replace the valve body
I have a question.
I have not viewed all the videos yet in this series of CVT repair (but I am surely going to); but so far I have not seen a "planetary gear" in any video that I have seen so far.
Is it not true that on a CVT transmission; there is ONLY one Planetary gear set; and its ONLY purpose is to put the transmission in reverse.
Am I correct in this; and if yes, where is this Planetary gear set?
Thanking you kind sir in advance.
Why don't you tell us the millage those transmission have on them.
Thanks for sharing. What is the "best" way to removal my 2003 Nissan Murano AWD transmission?
+chris123church Ha ha, we have one in the shop now. They is no best way, there is only one way, and that way is going to take you probably one day and a half because you are not familiar with the process. You are going to have to take things loose from the top. Then you are going to have to chain the motor then take loose things from the bottom. All of this is best shown on a video. However, the video will be long. I have not the time to do this yet.
+questioning3 Thanks so much for your professionalism in this painstaking process.
Where is the vehicle speed sensor located on the 2005 Nissan Murano transmission
Great clip, but seeing it and reading the replies there is no way I would ever buy a murano, was thinking about it but not now.
+James Calley good observation.
+questioning3 you mean a cvt
Why you did not remove the pan and filter when transmission was in the car ? A lot of bad fluid will run out , now that fluid it is transmission....
alot of times a trans guy will have a bench with a big trough or gutter that catches alot of that fluid and drains it into a bucket or something.
Say brother, what would be the problem if while traveling down the freeway it starts to shutter if I put it in manual it doesn't do it.

the v6 cvt is very different than the cvts in the 4 cylinder. therefore, the caliber has a different cvt. although they are both built by jatco.
I'm no expert at cvts, but in most cases if it's not variating it's usually the step motor on the valve body that the only needs to be replaced.

Hello.. I have an Altima 2009, is the same transmission.. I have a question..
for change the internal oil filter only I need remove all the screws? Or is it past screws?
Thanks in advance
when replacing the valve body alone should you remove any components from the old one to the new one?
That is a choice that is not mandatory
you should switch over the little black box on the valve body also known as the ROM ( read only memory)
Sunbelt is right about the square box. If you don't switch it to the new valve body you may have to have it programmed. I put a Nissan murano transmission in a vehicle and got lucky. Did not need to have it programmed.
Have you figured out why these fail so often? When I tear mine down is there certain parts I should replace whether good or not regardless?
On this model year, there are some things to look at. I many videos on this transmission that address parts in this transmission.

Get rid of it. These things get worse with time rather quickly. Get a used Lexus or a Toyota. New if u can afford it.
If it is determined that the exhaust is not restricted, then romove the transmission pan and see if there is any metal in the pan.
hello i have a murano 06 can i take another oil than the original ? I put castrol and i feel that it is heated.
And when I drive at higher speeds the shaking goes away but the noise turned into a buzz
there are good used transmissions out there with low miles that are cheaper.

Hello! awesome video!
I have a 07 Nissan Altima the car still drives but only in reverse... do u know what needs to be changed in the transmission to get it back driving?
if you cannot move forward, then the forward clutches are probably bad. Out with the transmission

when changing the engine oil, put some lucas oil stabilizer in the engine. If the noise quiets down, you need engine work.
Thanks!
that description isn't really a part per se. its talking about a literal electrical circuit the system uses. it probably has an "open" or "short" and needs further investigation. what that code means is the car needs to be checked out further in that area to find the circuit problem to repair the circuit.
unfortunately what that means is there isn't just some specific part to just buy and replace with a specific dollar amount to handle the problem. you have to have a qualified mechanic check it out further to even know what its going to take specifically to fix it.
its been 6 months what ended up happening?
I just bought my 2005 Nissan Murano and not even had a month. It was driving fine. Than I went to leave my in laws and it wouldn't move. Once I can it going it will than start to shift and go faster. Is it in limp mode. Do I need a new cvt
It is hard for me to make an accurate diagnosis by writing. How many miles is on your vehicle?
173 k miles. Not even had a few weeks.
Ciara Piper it needs to be taken to a shop first to verify a bad transmission. What part of the country are you in?
My 09 Nissan Murano won't get out of 2nd gear. Could that be a speed sensor or is it definitely a transmission problem?
If it is a speed sensor, you need a mechanic with a scan tool to check it out. Most of the time, It is in the transmission though,.
questioning3 my 07 nissan versa cvt transmission loss reverse gear what do you think I changed all the solenoid and I still have the same issue I'm thinking about the step motor
Also Where are you located? How much would you charge to "rebuild" a transmission?
+chris123church I don't rebuild this transmission. I only repair it. Now, the reason I tell customers that I repair only is that I cannot get every part of this transmission new, new solenoids, reman valvebodies. If I could get everything new like I wanted to then I would call it a rebuilt unit. Right now, the aftermarket is trying to make some things available, however, they are still slow. As a result, I only repair to get the vehicle running again.

But remember, the parts are hard to get.
p0725, p1701, p0420. what are these codes, and which needs to be fixed first? (04 Nissan Murano)
well, the p0725 appears to be a crank position sensor code.
I have a 2004 Murano, drives like its stuck in LOW gear. What would i have to do to avoid putting in another used CVT?
Thanks!
+Stephanson Tieu You have 3 options. One, put in a dealer reman unit. Two, Repair yours. Three, put in a used one that has low miles, if you can find one with low miles.
Hey I have a 2012 maxima the RPMS over Rev from 2000 to 4000 rpms when I try and pass a car up going 60 mph . .Once it over revs it only goes back down 2000rpms once I let go of the gas for a couple of secs how ever sometimes it stay over rev for the whole ride as in im going 60mph and the rpms are at 4000-5000 instead of 2000rpm any advice? it also over revs when I try to gas the car to make a quick turn or run it for while . . .However if I pick it up slowly I can go up to 65 miles for a while until it over revs on its own maybe 20- 30 min drive or so . help!!
How many miles are on your vehicle?
questioning3 86 K cvt transmission are soo pricey to rebuild :/
I have a 2012 Nissan Altima, when cruising and acceleration the car a bit slows down and pushes again for two or three times but not heavily, only I notice it cause I drive it. that's one
two, when I remove my foot on the pedal but in low speed (30-40 kph) I feel like the car breaks and stops itself but it doesn't happen when I shift to N but happens while it's on D.
changed its hydraulic yet the problem persists :/
what could be the problem?
+questioning3
hi
i have nissan teana 2010 , xtronic cvt , and i have the same problem
Sorry, I have not experienced this sort of situation before. My suggestion would be to take it somewhere to have a mechanic scan the computer system to check for codes. Also, you may want to see it the braking system is malfunctioning.
+questioning3
l check by scan devic and nothing , is this problem from CVT system ??
Check all the computers on the vehicle. See it any can detect a problem.
Hi all, looking for some opinions on CVT noise - high pitched, whining
noise after 30min driving or so. The car was inveloved in rear end
accident - quite strong one. I have stopped on the lights and then car
hit me from the back at around 40km/h... also i was on the full break as
I just stopped - the car was pushed about 1 meter in front. since then
the high pitched, whining noise started. Now the insurance company
questions this and suggesting wear and tear... is there any thing
connecting and disconnecting when the car is stopped and can this
mechanism be damaged by heavy impact (rattle like) in the accident?
thanks m
That is hard to answer here. Noises need to be hear by the ear of a mechanic. It is best for you to take it to a shop the the mechanic can do a test drive. You may have to leave it for a day.
Marc see step motor it is
or can I just replace the pressure solenoid. (If I can just replace the pressure solenoid where is it located?
I guess the easy steps are trying a solenoid or a valvebody (if you can get one) but forever keeping it in the back of your mind that you may need to fix or replace the transmission itself.
questioning3 177k
Wil C If one can to the shop with 177,000 miles on this transmission, I would not hesitate to do a full transmission disassembly based on what I have seen at 155,000 miles. What prices are you getting for used ones, good used ones with low miles?
P1722 code on a 2004 Murano is transmission related or something else?
This is a vehicle speed sensor code it seems like. However, this is something that will have to be taken to a shop because testing with wiring diagrams, scanners and meters will come into play for diagnosis.
You are one of the honest Techs.
what would you say is the cause of cvt failure? design flaw in engineering, bad parts, complicated mechanicals not proven yet?
All transmission fail. I don't think there is nothing wrong with the cvt transmission. It works, it will get over 100,000 miles. The problem is when it breaks, no new parts by design of the auto manufactures.
this was so helpful but ? were did u find the other cvt
+Ladydee38 It's all Good you can find transmissions online or in auto salvage yards.
The manual valve won't break it will simply just slide all the way out. Use an impact on the top nut. Then the bottom nut. No wrench required
thanks very well.
Do you have qashqai cvt transmission repair

+irfan shah On the murano, there are some speed sensors. I would first try replacing the output speed sensor. If you have a scantool, then, you can drive the vehicle with the scantool connected to see if there is a reading.

Hello friends this is CVT Gear Box?
yes
can i change the step motor with out dropping the transmission down
yes, you have to take the top pan off then you can get to the sensors.
questioning3 someone told me the step motor come all together with the valve body.
First , thank you for this best video post ..
I have a Nissan Rogue 2008 , which somebody wrongfully diagnosed and told me i need a new transmission . and i ended up buying a new transmission from a Nissan dealer , how ever the funny part is, my car didn't do any better even after the transmission swap . still have same problem . later i took it back to the dealer and they found out the TCM is bad ,
so my question is 1.
Thank you sir. . Am going to do that
Is it really that bad to no put authentic Nissan CVT fluid and use a regular CVT fluid?
i have used regular cvt fluid with no problems

I have a 2004 Nissan Murano with a cvt transmission an it has gone bad I was offered a 2007 transmisión to replace it.. The mechanic tells me it is a match so just want to be sure and buy the transmission as the donar car has low miles on it.
FREDERICK VON BELTRÁN you need to call an auto salvage yard and ask this question. They will tell you what will fit year to year. They have a book for this.
Seems like good work is done here and the man knows his stuff. Is this a transmission repair shop business? If so where?
rkgsd Hello, yes this is a transmission shop.

ZIMALETA HOW TO SHOW & UNBOXING how did you make out with the step motor? That’s what the issues sounds like.

I expect a higher level of reliability, and thankfully their are manufactures that deliver on those higher expectations.
thanks for what you do

Bills automatic transmissions in Cleveland Ohio. Regarding cvts, these transmissions are relatively new in the market for rebuilders. Although they are simple to repair, the parts are not always available (on purpose by the manufactures) to repair them adequately to be called a rebuilt transmission. As a result, I only consider it a repair. Furthermore, I only repair those that have low mileage. We have yet to understand what wears on these units at very high mileage, I mean parts that are not easily seen (valvebodies) or easy to get (electronics-solenoids and stepper motors).

cvt is a crap transmission
Quentyn73 Not true. Cvt is a good transmission if it is used within its ability. However, the manufactures are hogging all of the parts. This is what makes the situation bad. And because of the manufactures purposely hiding the parts, it is best to stay away from cvts. When people start doing this, they will stop their games.
Quentyn73"cvts will be gone soon". It Is best to live in the now then to speculate about an unknown future. Right now, we have a 2007 Nissan sentra in the shop that needs a transmission, and it is a cvt. So far manufactures are putting them in the later vehicles. So, it is best to be familiar with them and try to master them since they are here.
questioning3
There's no way to master a broken piece of metal.
Therefore, master them and make them better.
questioning3
Lasting but at what cost?
Thank you so much!
Hello I just bought an 09 murano. the car when I press on the has will not make the car go faster than 20 miles an hour at 3500 to 4000 rpm. So I quit driving it right away. I took it to auto zone and it came up with some codes. indicating Its the valve body. I was wondering is pressing on gas and getting no gear changing past first a symptom of a bad throttle body.
what were the codes?
questioning3 p1777
p0507
computer screen at auto zone said.
suggest replacing valve body.
Do i need drop whole transmission to get to valve body?
Mozart no
