    Installed a Rogue oil cooler. Same as the oil cooler in the Altima recall cooler kit. It has a thermostat bypass built into it!! It will not cool oil until its up to temp. These after market oil coolers do not do that and always cool the fluid. Maybe yours works where you live in Florida, but other climates it will create a problem. Also, their is a small trans FINE filter on the side of transmission that is replaceable. You can see its housing in your vid, 0:45 mark. The return line you touched goes into the fine filter housing. The housing is mounted using 4 small screws. I did a lot of research and other car makers use the same cvt trans and show the filter as replaceable. Some more research and cross referencing and this is the filter: Nissan 31726-1XF00 or Mitsubishi 2824A006. Nissan does not sell the correct oring for the fine filter housing. Mitsubishi does: Mitsubishi 2920A096. The crush washers for the return line going into the housing are Nissan 21626-32U00. I did a write up of this a few years back on a nissan forum. Best of luck to those that own a pos cvt.

    The explanation is straightforward, clear and understandable. Sure, the visuals aren’t as clear as the explanation, but if you are looking closely, you can still figure it out and follow along. It is worth watching over again if you didn’t catch it all on the first watch. This is about helping you give your car a longer life. Don’t be afraid to ask! A lot of the Nissan issues are certainly from too much heat and early failure of trans fluid. I think the issue with the older CVTs using NS-1 or NS-2 (based on described failure modes and what Nissan has changed over the years) is hydraulic failure of the fluid when it burns (get's black). There's some Nissan techs that have posted that the NS-1 and NS-2 fluid had a tendency to foam and cavitate as it wears. Some part of that is CVT design but mainly CVT fluid failure. This is why Nissan spec'd NS-3, which is full thinner and allegedly performs better under duress, more similar to traditional synthetics. CVT whine is likely foaming/cavitation happening at higher speeds, indicating hydraulic failure. Slipping and shuddering is usually a sign of viscosity issues and/or non-slip additives being spent. Meaning, the fluid is no longer in spec. Long story short, fluid drain and fill is the most basic preventative maintenance. A secondary cooler is a good idea too but simply extending the time between intervals.

      @DaftknightLP 2 роки тому +2

      So then question, is it the heat that causes the cvt band to stretch over time, already had to replace one cvt, trying to get this one to last a bit longer

    • @erickeith1466
      @erickeith1466 2 роки тому +2

      @@DaftknightLP CVTs don't really stretch in the way dealers describe. It's more heat fatigue and wear. I had zero problems with my Infiniti CVT after I settled on partial fluid changes every 30-40K. I also use synthetic CVT fluid, not the OEM. But only do something like this if you're out of warranty.

    This seems to get-around the design defect: Keep 'em cool as many ways of reduced coolant/distilled water ratios, both filters and best cvt fluid each 30k, allow set overnight or allow 8 hours for full warm drain to obtain around 5.5 quarts if not flushing, seal all air leaks of radiator plenum (Time -consuming), keep radiators clean. Ok, so you are completely by passing the radiator?? You are not fitting the cooler inline with the radiator. My '12 Altima went into lump mode (30 mph,a self protection mode) going over the 'grapevine' grade in SoCal. I need to keep it cool. But I need to understand how you routed this fix. SERVICE KIT-COOLER ASSY 21606-ZX59A 1*
    NS-2 CVT Fluid 999MP-NS200P (1)
    I think this is a great idea. If there are other issues, solenoid / pump / pump-valve for the transmission are also suspects. The idea behind the CVT is pretty sound otherwise.

    I've been wanting to do this myself. My fluid is frothing after a couple of months. The first time I changed it it only lasted 10k miles (I'm ok changing the fluid yearly since I do. It myself). Last time I changed I made the mistake of mixing different brands of fluids (I was low on fluid and had to drive, when I realize it was a really bad idea while driving, I used another qt I had in the trunk).
    I just changed it again and used only one brand (amsoil). If it starts frothing again, I'm gonna have to install this cooler and hope that's what making the fluid go bad so fast.

I changed the CVT fluid yesterday, and the car was running fantastic until I took it down the street. It's holding back and hesitating, I believe the transmission is overheating.

      it is the latter as described, but i wonder if the first way you mention would be better. If there is a concern of the fluid getting too cool (like in the dead of winter at highway speed) it seems that having the radiator after the cooler would work better and still the cooler would ensure the oil isn’t too hot.

    Second, the radiator coolant is in the 185-205 deg range all the time. Transmission fluid generally is lower than that right (165-185 deg I am guessing). Therefore running the trans fluid through radiator is actually heating it up instead of cooling it? Am I wrong?

    I found out when a cop hit my car they replaced the radiator with a non cooling port for the cvt fluid. So I have had my transmission fail 2x and nobody figured this out til my brother looked and asked where the cooling line went. I drive 15 miles to work thats it and had a failure under 10k miles 2 x. Would the valve body still be good if its a fluid overheat issue. And would the gears be bad. Just wonder if its worth trying to solve this still.

      @@huggiebear1122 Thank you for the info on that. My nissan did not even have the fluid flowing through the radiator, just a bean can sized cooler mounted to the block. I had to get a replacement for that part that has 4 tubes, that allow fluid to flow out from it to an external cooler which I also installed. I was asking around in the net trying to figure out which of the 2 fluid ports on the block mounted cooler was the outflow, explaining I wanted to run fluid from bottom of external cooler to top, I could not get an answer or people would say it does not matter. But I wanted to follow you advice, I finally figured it out after finding a Nissan service report meant for mechanics on installing the units and it turns out it was bottom tube on little block cooler was the outlet. so if any of you are installing the little 4 port cooler and an external cooler, just remember it is bottom tube to bottom of your external cooler and top of external cooler to top tube on little block cooler. Bottom to bottom, top to top.

    NISSAN WILL HELP U... but you have to make them.
    My warranty covered me until 100,000. At 65k my transmission began failing/slipping. So I drove it out until 89k to get as much life out of it as possible. They installed a new one for free. Now at 112k my warranty is over and the new transmission is failing after only 22k. I opened a case with Nissan consumer affairs and said this is ridiculous. They responded agreeing to help me outside of my warranty by paying half of the quoted $3400 CVT replacement job so $1700. I respond saying that I will only pay $1000 bcs the CVTs are garbage. They happily accepted my offer and helped me outside of warranty and will even provide a rental car. They are already being sued for the CVTs so they are trying to step up and help ppl. The consumer affairs rep was very honest and helpful. It’s one less person getting in the class action lawsuit so it helps them in the long run I guess lol. Good luck, just be respectful and stand your ground.
