- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- A few days in Dartmoor dodging the weather we still get to visit a few places such as Tavistock, Foggintor Quarry and Dartmeet where we find an inland beach. We also get to try some delicious flapjacks 😋 which are made locally.
We aim to publish a video each week, every Saturday at 7am (UK time). We also live stream on the first Saturday of each month at 4pm.

Hi from us in NZ. Great video really enjoyed it. Nice spot.
Thanks Karynn. Are you still allowed to have fun in your motorhome? 🚐🚐
@@HermanHitstheRoad Hi. Yes we are still able to have fun in our MH. Here in NZ we are in level 1 so the only restriction is our borders are still closed except for NZ'ers returning who by the way are the people bringing in Covid but luckily they all go into quaratine for 2 weeks. No community based cases. You guys keep well I see in the news your getting a huge amount of cases everyday. Loving your video's. Take care.
Hi Karynn, yes cases are rising here again. Only local town lockdowns in affect. We're able to still move around though. Stay safe. 🚐🚐👍
I always have another cup of tea with my cup of tea ☕
LOL Richard. It's a shame there isn't a cup of tea emoji 🍵🚐
spent many hours on dartmoor walking thanks for sharing your vlog
Thanks Grumpy Bear. Feel free to share and tell your friends 👍👍🚙🚙
Yorkshire teabag brewed for 3 mins with a dunked digestive! Very nice tour and filming!
Thanks Diana. Any chocolate on those digestives?
Herman Hits the Road Nope, don’t need the calories!
We were at that campsite last thursday....we left a day early as strong wind at rain forecast for next day and didnt fancy driving home to Penzance in it. Always worried about parking in towns but next time will look out for that Car Park. Langstone Manor is another good site and you can walk from the site onto one of the TORs behind with amazing views down towards Plymouth and the Tamar bridge
Thanks for the tips about the campsite, renault4mad.
We're not worried about driving in towns but we try and look ahead for parking. Supermarkets are good for parking, they are free and normally have plenty of room. With any car park you need an exit plan because you don't want to be blocked in. 👍👍😀
With the tea, digestives, dunked of course. Or, on highways , shortbread biscuits. With coffee as before but when we are home in France a croissant, also dunked. Any good English tea for us none of that scented stuff!!. We used to live in Plymouth before coming to France to "live the dream" so Dartmoor was our stamping ground. Have a bash at a good, locally produced of course, cider. Hairs on your chest etc, stand fast Zoe! Enjoy and stay safe.
Oh Frederick, we do love a coffee and a croissant, but dunked? That's odd but I'll give it a go when we are next having one. 👍🚐
Beautiful and peaceful place to discover.
Hi Jose, yes it was peaceful and beautiful. You'll need to check it out when you get your motorhome 🚐🚐👍
Good to see you out and about in Herman. I hope the weather gods shine on you for the rest of your holiday. BTW, those flapjacks looked lush.
Oh they are, Richard. We're glad we got them. We're on to the Salted Caramel ones now. It's still raining.

Can’t believe you are so close to my house and I’ve missed you both.
I know, sorry about that Richard 😣. Now we know we can have a better plan next time 👍👍
Thanks Adz /Zoe always a good watch.
Cheers Steve. Feel free to share and tell your friends 👍👍
I love your upbeat, real videos. Hope to meet you on the road 1 day.
Love from Heidi and her Hymer Harmony B694 1991 xxx
Thanks Heidi and Harmony. We hope to see you too 🚐🚐👍
A nice big slice of apple tart with my tea :-)
Very nice. What type of tea, Fergus?
@@HermanHitstheRoad At home here its Barry's Tea from Cork. Yorkshire tea when I'm in the UK.
You film everything! I never thought of filming a dump lol! Do you use a tripod! That one looked well-maintained ours are out in the weather! Just hose down...
I use a small tripod, Bill which is also a handle
Nice video guys Hope its not the last of the sun. 🤞🌞But winter is lovely too. Herman earned his corn on those hills lol ATB to you both x
We've had a text from the sun. It's not coming out until next year now 🤣😉. Herman needs a bit more umph on those hills I think. It would be worse if it was raining 🚙🚙
nice to see you out and about, nice scenery pity about the rain but better than sitting at home👍☔︎
Thanks Kieran. Yes, it's better than sitting at home 👍👍
Beautiful countryside, thanks for sharing. Right now I'm fixing a pot of Dunk'in Donuts coffee, that I always add cream to for my morning jumpstart. With a multi-grain English Muffin served hot with melted butter!
Oh yummy, Deborah. I might have to have some more flapjacks - finished the 2nd packet.
When you say flapjacks, do you mean pancakes? Pancakes are a type of quick bread fried in a cast iron skillet here in America, stacked and served hot with melted butter and drizzled with syrup. Stay Safe and God Bless.
Hi Deborah, flapjacks are made from oats, sugar and syrup which are tray baked. Here's a recipe
www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/mary-berrys-flapjacks
@@HermanHitstheRoad Okay! I'll do the metric conversion and oven temp conversion and try this recipe out. I have watched Mary Berry on the British Baking show on cable. She and Julia Child could run a race in cooking! Thanks.
Also, Deborah, I believe biscuits in the USA are different to the UK. Over here they are similar to hard cookies made of oats or shortbread rather than cakes. Google, digestives, rich tea, hob nobs or custard creams for examples.
That looked like a nice trip out .
Very nice, James but now it hasn't stopped raining. Feel free to share and tell your friends 👍👍
We are sitting in our motorhome in the rain watching you in your motorhome in the rain ☔️ !! One of our treats is fresh coffee made with an Aero press.
And I'm reading your comment of you watching us in the rain while it's hammering on the roof 🚙🚙🌧☔
Where are you camped, Jennifer?
Herman Hits the Road We’re in Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. A miracle has happened... we have some blue sky.!!!! ⛅️🌥 Just a little, we don’t want to get too excited. We are possibly going to walk part of the Pennine Way. But first we have the important job of drinking our first aero press coffee of the morning.☕️💕👍
Nice. Could you send some blue sky our way please? We have cafetiere coffee in the morning. Nice and strong 🍵🚐🌧
Herman Hits the Road Blue sky on its way first class post! 👍
🤣😍👍
If I'm feeling indulgent then its hot chocolate with squirty cream and marshmallows and I dunk chocolate hobnobs.💖💗🍪🍪
OMG Cara the van, that does sounds nice. Plain or milk chocolate for the hobnobs?
@@HermanHitstheRoad either im not fussy. Lol
Can’t believe I missed this video... we were at Tavistock in July. As we have family near Tavistock. Love it around there. Nice video too. We went up pew tour as we didn’t have much time. Vlogs on my channel. Cheers, Oliver.
Hi Oliver, Pew Tor looks great. I wish we'd done that. Shame about the weather. Do you have a link to your video?
@@HermanHitstheRoad ua-cam.com/play/PL3i8oBww3U2HwM5cjyVX9UYzQKRxIG_lO.html that’s the playlist Pew Tour is video 2 arriving is video 1 video 4 is a ride to burrator and my favourite, video 3 which is a drive to the seaside.
I'll take a look, thanks Oliver
Excellent brilliant vlog.loved it.
Thanks. Feel free to share and tell your friends
@@HermanHitstheRoad Already shared to Motorhoming Happiness Group.
Thanks 👍👍👍
Great video Ads & Zoe. Hope you’re planning on using Herman over the Winter. Thanks guys 👍👍
Thanks Phelix. No plans after Christmas but I'm sure we'll be up to something. Do you have any plans for winter?
Herman Hits the Road great stuff, with only having the van for six months so far I’m hoping to use it whenever possible but it’s maybe not as comfortable when it’s minus ten outside 😂. As long as I get my dose of Herman Hits the Road I’m sure we’ll survive 👍
Thanks Phelix. Thats very kind.
Depends on where you are but winter isn't all that bad. Save gas and buy an electric heater for use on EHU and wrap up warm when outside
Hi to you both, yet another fantastic video 👍. Ads I bet your well pleased you fixed your sky light, with all that rain. Think you were in the premier league with that flapjack, so I will have have to just eat my chocolate wagon wheel with my brew. Good think is it’s Bettys tea room blend.keep safe looking forward to next video.
Cheers Anthony 🍻 aka penguin peter.
Ps do you like the motorhome logo.
Great logo Anthony 👍. Yes, no leaks from the roof lights - the rain made for a good test though.👍🌧🚐
We are away this weekend near Lincoln very nice ,we have wet weather, our favourite snack,it has to be Yorkshire tea and ,we usually have either chocolate Jaffa cakes or we buy some goodies cake from a posh cake shop as a treat, brill vlog Ads and Zoe 👍
Hi Chris, what's goodies cake from a posh cake shop? Sound interesting. 🍰🍵
Your camping chairs look like giant pairs of underpants have been left on them to dry 😂😂. Nice spot Dartmoor. Let's hope we get a bit more sunshine 🌞
Hehehe someone else said that, Alex. We never noticed before. 👍👍☔🌧
That quarry would be a great spot to use an underwater drone 😃👍🏻
Definitely, Mark. Sounds like an idea. Do you have one? I could have put my GoPro on the end of the 4 metre selfie stick - Opportunity lost !!
Herman Hits the Road, I’m afraid I don’t but I’ve seen them used on UA-cam to explore quarries in Europe to find discarded WW2 items 😌👍🏻
Great vlog guys! I'm off to Dartmoor next week 👍🏼 nice to see you are safe and well.... Oh Skull Crusher Coffee and a Rich Tea 😉👌
Hi JP, we hope you have a lovely time Dartmoor. I'm going to have to look out for skull crusher coffee. Thanks 🍵🚐👍
Herman Hits the Road I think they have a deal on at the mo with a free mug, it’s a good strong brew, sets you up for the day lol 😂
Yorkshire tea, industrial strength, a little bit of milk, and stirred anti-clockwise. Please 😎.
Either an All Butter shortbread finger, or a slice of Cherry Genoa cake. Please 😎.
I’m sure I’ve stayed in some adverse chambers, the ones in the crew hotel in Grimsby in 1994 were particularly adverse...
Good to see you out and about folks. Hoping to get a trip to Scotland this month (if it stays open!).
Hi John, good to hear from you again.
So, industrial strength tea? Do you leave the bag in while you drink it? 🍵
Got to be coffee with a chocolate hobnob ☕🍪
Sounds yummie, Alison. 👍👍
You should have had a cream tea at Badgers Halt, it’s the best and massive !
Hi Richard, where is Badges Holt? Probably not the weather for ice cream at the time though 🍦🚐👍🌧
Badgers Halt is where you found the beach and Zoe says I’m glad you don’t have to go up the kill. The cream teas are the best in Devon, and big.
Oh yes, I remember now 👍👍 thanks
Love Tavistock and fortunate to live quite close. Good to see the QR code. We were told by a warden at Totnes site the other day that you need to scan the code each day you are on site. And if you go off site and scan another QR code (eg at a pub) you need to rescan at site on your return.
Thanks Don. No one has said that to us.
Have you tried the Flapjackery flapjacks? We've just finished them
Herman Hits the Road not yet but will do now they look amazing. Where else are you planning on going? Plymouth is good on a wet day and motorhome parking at the park and ride - if you look at the location history in the NHS app it ends at midnight
on the rare occassion that I do have a cup of tea, I am a dunker. Difficult to pick a favourite. Ginger nuts, Chocolate digestives, Bournbon biscuits, etc.
I prefer to have cakes with hot chocolate.
No coffee ever, too bitter for me. Smells amazing though. :)
Which hot chocolate do you have? Water or milk?
Interesting about the coffee. Have you tried it with sugar? 🍵🍫
We're in out caravan in Beer, Devon and today its not stopped raining 🤪
Same here, Kelly in the Cotswolds 🚙🚙👍👍
Yorkshire tea dunking Hobnob x4. It's the law!
Plain chocolate hobnobs 😙 or anything with chocolate really. 👍👍👍
Tea with custard creams biscuits
Oh Peter, custard cream are another favourite of mine. A dunking biscuit they are not but still delicious in a cup of tea 🚙🚙👍👍
Well that was a CRAP start to the VLOG LOL!!!!! Tavistock looks a really nice place, another place we have drove past many time but not stopped. If we venture that way again it looks like we may have to stop off just to get them Flapjacks
The flapjacks are a must. You could probably park right outside. 👍👍👍🚙
Hey guys you should travel across Dartmoor to a place called the highwayman inn it’s one of the oldest buildings In Britain and it has some interesting decor check it out on google, and there’s a beautiful place just down the road called bearslake inn that’s does lovely roasts and there’s a stunning walk linking them both along the old railways line that goes across an amazing viaduct.
Oh Lee, that does sound great. We saw the Highwayman Inn between Oakhampton and Tavistock. It looks like a boot! I'd have liked to have seen the viaduct.
Thanks 👍👍👍
Lee Dryden The Highwayman is local to me (I’m in Lydford) the actual pub has been closed for a while now, not sure why !
Waggies Travels I know they said there shut till end of September until they have things in place to keep people safe with the guidelines
You need the internet or some movies on days like that at 11:35
Haha or a good coat, Bill
Hi we are in Tavy too staying at woodovis park can recommend this site
Woodovis Park, my local site. Sophie the owner is lovely. I did a review from there a year or so ago, it’s only three miles from my house ......
Hi Martin, did you have a good time there? I hope the weather didn't spoil it? 🌧👍🚐
@@HermanHitstheRoad Hi had great time leaving tomorrow after 3 weeks
That's great, Martin. Did the weather get any better after we left?
We went on to the Cotswolds, then Longleat, Cheddar and now we are at Devizes for our last night before going home tomorrow
@@HermanHitstheRoad no weather been raining most of the time but still a nice break
Does the no drone rule apply to the whole of Dartmoor do you know ? Saw you managed a bit of drone footage.
Hi vintage vantics, the no drone applies to the whole if Dartmoor. I didn't use a drone in this video. 🚐🚐
Herman Hits the Road you have some fancy selphy stick action going on then!
It's a 360 camera on the end of a 4 metre stick. The camera removes the stick. 👍👍
When you pay for your spot on a site can you drive on and off each day and still keep your same spot on the site?
Hi Dianne, yes you can drive in and out and you keep the same spot but they normally ask you to put a sign out too.
I hope that helps? Are you new to motorhoming or caravanning?
@@HermanHitstheRoad years ago we had a touring caravan but often wondered if camper vans had to stay on site to keep their pitch. Thanks for answering my question
Vanilla Rooibos tea + a hob nob or similar
Vanilla rooibos tea? I didn't even know that was a thing. I may have to try that, Brian. And does your hob nob have chocolate on it? Just reminds me of the Peter Kay hob nob sketch 👍👍
@@HermanHitstheRoad Well, a choc Hobnob is the ultimate biscuit but not for dunking. I get Dragonfly Vanilla Rooibos from Waitrose (yellow box) well worth trying and have it without milk.
Ok thanks 👍👍
Don’t tell everyone but try Bodmin Moor, Minions.
Tell us why Robin.
@@HermanHitstheRoad much quieter, loads of parking, standing stone circles and the Cheesewring
First time I've seen someone empty their loo on UA-cam. NT will be after you if they see the drone footage, but I think it helps the video👍. Don't worry, they're too busy being woke. Funny thing about the countryside though, it does seem to have a lot of trees and boulders...
Hi CheshireRing, I'm a bit confused. A drone wasn't used in this video and Dartmoor isn't owned by the National Trust.
Thanks. 👍👍👍
@@HermanHitstheRoad Oooh OK... You must have had a very long stick at 2.55 then. And I'm not sure that the National Trust agree with you about ownership, since they appear to be claiming parts of it, see www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lists/days-out-on-dartmoor . But no worries, it doesn't bother me who owns it so long as I can access it, and I think a limited amount of drone footage adds to the video.
Those "drone" shots were actually a 360 camera on a 4 metre selfie stick
Do you have a view while in bed??? We do in #AngelaMerc and did in #Helga2004, but that meant less room than you have in Herman!
We don't have an outside view from the bed, Bill. It's dark up there 😉
