I just bought a front damaged 2015 Cayman for 23,000 with 180,000 miles on it. I put a GT3 front end and then I put an LS7 7.3-liter monster in it and a turbocharger with some extra upgrades all together 800 horsepower. 0-60 in 2.4 seconds a top speed of 236 or at least that is how fast I got it anyway. I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would buy a GT3 for 200,000 dollars when you can build my same car that is faster for 80,000.
So, in your mind is this a: Porsche 911 RSR? or a more a C8 Stingray prototype? What's so interesting about your swap is that it answers what 911 and Vette owners have always always wanted to know: - What if a 911 was mid-engine and had the power it deserves? - What if a Corvette was mid-engine with all that LS power?
The Cayman is such a beautiful format. It is an annoyance to the 911 crowd. 1/2 the money, better looking, superior handling. What could possibly be worse for them than "a bastard" GM powered 911 ass kicker...
sweet car. make a cold air intake. the air filter right next to the exhaust manifold is just about the worst place you could put it. you'll pick up a lot of power.

Hi Drone, I do not recommend a base car. Please start with an S car. Bigger brakes, better cooling, made to handle 300 hp. For the 495 hp conversion that I did, I sourced a 986 transaxle. The 986 has bigger bushings and taller gears. Renegade can provide the axles for that combo. They use 986 to gear box, 987 to car ABS end, and 930 turbo CV joints. A word on Renegade: Nicely made, beautifully finished, and proven parts. Use Renegade stuff. It is good. Please do NOT relay on Renegade for follow through help. You will be disappointed. There stuff is for a car builder that does NOT need hand holding. In this way, it moves the project along nicely. If I build another car: It will be a 300 hp LS1. I will use the 987 6 speed that comes in the S car with stock axles. I will not modify the cooling system. (no third front radiator) I will run std antifreeze approved for GM. ( No Evans Waterless) I would also NOT install the "motor window" again. (expense and noise) These mods alone would save about 12K on the build. I hope this is helpful. Best, Steve
@osp80 I agree with you. The 500 HP LS3 is a little overpowered, if there is such a thing. The S car is made for 300 HP. It would be a much simpler build to stay within this range.
