sweet car. make a cold air intake. the air filter right next to the exhaust manifold is just about the worst place you could put it. you'll pick up a lot of power.

I have been thinking of a Cayman and dropping a Ford Voodoo engine but this sounds more reliable. If I bring you the Cayman, how much would this build cost? Thank you for your time.

It looks like can style resonators in one shot, then Borla S-Type in another shot. What did you go with and how do you like the sound? I am currently doing an 87 911 Hot Rod Project using Renegade Hybrids conversion kit with the same LS3 376/480 495 HP engine setup your running and would like to know your thoughts overall! I just bought a front damaged 2015 Cayman for 23,000 with 180,000 miles on it. I put a GT3 front end and then I put an LS7 7.3-liter monster in it and a turbocharger with some extra upgrades all together 800 horsepower. 0-60 in 2.4 seconds a top speed of 236 or at least that is how fast I got it anyway. I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would buy a GT3 for 200,000 dollars when you can build my same car that is faster for 80,000.

Just my opinion but you ruined it.. Doesn't sound right.
If you had experience with this car you would know that this is basically the only reasonable way to keep the car alive. The 987.1’s have very fragile engines and tbh, they are relatively weak. If you drive it once or twice you might enjoy it but ultimately it is a sub 300 hp flat 6. The car is just not as interesting performance wise as any (working) rx7 or 2jz swapped honda. Eventually these 987.1 engines go, because they have fundamental drawbacks with age. Putting another high powered porsche engine in there from say a 997 is a quarter million dollar project. Putting another cayman/boxster engine in is underwhelming. The only realistic option to keep the car going is an LS swap. The sound can be manipulated to sound more like a corvette. Ultimately, the sound of a flat 6 NA engine is lovely but under 300 hp who really cares once youve owned the car for a year? LS swaps are how you keep this car on the road.

@@gordocarbo yup and honestly, i will revise my statement. If you can get a k swap into the porsche as well and tune it then thats amazing too. Whatever keeps the car moving

So, in your mind is this a: Porsche 911 RSR? or a more a C8 Stingray prototype? What's so interesting about your swap is that it answers what 911 and Vette owners have always always wanted to know: - What if a 911 was mid-engine and had the power it deserves? - What if a Corvette was mid-engine with all that LS power?
what are your RPM's on the Highway? How did the wiring go, did you make a separate harness?
gorgeous! i have so many questions! i am in the market for a 987.2 base cayman to do an LS3 conversion on. i fix people not cars so i need all the information i can get. thinking of going with renegade.
Hi Drone, I do not recommend a base car. Please start with an S car. Bigger brakes, better cooling, made to handle 300 hp. For the 495 hp conversion that I did, I sourced a 986 transaxle. The 986 has bigger bushings and taller gears. Renegade can provide the axles for that combo. They use 986 to gear box, 987 to car ABS end, and 930 turbo CV joints. A word on Renegade: Nicely made, beautifully finished, and proven parts. Use Renegade stuff. It is good. Please do NOT relay on Renegade for follow through help. You will be disappointed. There stuff is for a car builder that does NOT need hand holding. In this way, it moves the project along nicely. If I build another car: It will be a 300 hp LS1. I will use the 987 6 speed that comes in the S car with stock axles. I will not modify the cooling system. (no third front radiator) I will run std antifreeze approved for GM. ( No Evans Waterless) I would also NOT install the "motor window" again. (expense and noise) These mods alone would save about 12K on the build. I hope this is helpful. Best, Steve

@osp80 I agree with you. The 500 HP LS3 is a little overpowered, if there is such a thing. The S car is made for 300 HP. It would be a much simpler build to stay within this range.

More drivable than the stock Porsche flat six. The flat six is beautiful, but is a pig under 3000 RPM.
