My 2002 Dodge Ram is a dedicated boat hauler. I installed lights very similar to these, but I ran a separate circuit and wired them to a dedicated switch. Super bright LEDs while backing up in a parking lot around here will draw attention I don't need. They are awesome when backing down a boat ramp in the dark. I also silicone sealed my cut outs and mounting holes. Been 3 years, and no rust yet.
when you tapped into the center pin on the trailer hook up how exactly did you go about doing it? did you splice right into the wiring harness itself and solder it together? use any fancy wiring connectors? any details would be very much appreciated great video !!
Very Nice! I'm looking to do the same with my truck for backing my boat down ramps at pitch black with no ramp lighting. Are you happy with the location you mounted the lights? I'm wondering if further to each side would be better with a trailer, as close as you can get to the sides of the bumper. Any feedback would be great, Thanks!
I want to do this with mine but I noticed there’s a curve to my bumper. It looks like yours has the same curve. Did it pull the bumper to the lights and make them flush once you tighten the bolts?
Finding this a bit late, but like the install. I am doing something similar but with an aftermarket bumper. Which wire did you hook up to on the trailer control? did you run power back with a relay, or were you able to get enough power from the trailer wiring harness?
@@AdventureOne hey, i have a 2014 aswell and the first wire i spliced into was the white with orange stripe but it didnt work... do you have to have the ground wires grounded in order for them to work? I didnt bolt the ground wires to anything when i tested it out, i didnt think ground had to be connected to complete a circuit. Please respond im frustrated and need help 🤣
Do you have a link for the lights that you used? Also since it was connected to the trailer hitch wires, that allowed you to skip wiring it somewhere else?
Just regular 4” flash mounted led pods of ebay . Cost about 20$ . Woke fantastic . Would be smarter to do while new wiring with the relay . But easy way I did is hitch wiring . Spliced in . Never had issues .
Nice work. Those blue crimp connects rust over time. Might be better off using a wire stripper to separate the plastic and solder like you did with the other wires. I would suspects it would take years for the cuts to rust on the bumper. A preventive is al thats needed.
MrN0bady no man thank you, i know you were trying to help but it is no use since I don’t even know where to start lol, i like that work a lot but i can do the all cutting and stuff and then i would need to quit as soon as i arrive to that point where i should need to do the hard part of it..if you could show me in a video what wire is the backup and if i do need to put some wire on the battery in order to make it work then MAYBE i could make it lol..
That bumper will now begin to rust where you cut and drilled. Only a matter of time before the crome begins to bubble and fail. Also the crimp connections underneath will corrode.
But if you connect the lights to your trailer auxiliary.. isn't that a constant draw?? How did you keep the back up lights from staying on when ever the truck was running?? Did you use a relay??
Weird question bro but I found this video when googling my problem... My reverse lights on my 2013 ram 1500 all of a sudden decided to stop working! They worked just fine a couple nights ago but last night when backing in my driveway I noticed I couldn't see shit in my backup camera so I checked them and sure enough both bulbs are not working... I know the bulbs are good because they are good quality LEDs I spent good money on... I went ahead and changed 1 of them out just to see and the new bulb is not working either... So so you have any suggestions or does anyone have any idea where to stsrt with this issue? I've looked all over online and can not find an answer... Also I've looked in the owners manual and there doesn't seem to be a fuse for my reverse lights, which blows my mind but therr is no lighting fuses anywhere in this pickup outside of tow/trailer lights... Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Never use Scotch Lock splices!!! You went through the trouble of soldering the rest of the wiring connections then used the least reliable connector known to man to splice into the trailer wiring. The trailer wiring insulation should have been skinned away and the light wires should have been soldered to the trailer wires and taped. Scotch locks ALWAYS fail, especially when exposed to the elements.
Can somebody explain to me were did he hook up the wiring ? Cause on the electric side I’m not so good, on the cutting , drilling end else I’ll be fine on my own, please a little help ?! Thanks
Oh yeah I’m about to order some now for my Ram. Got $20k in her now and always upgrading. Get out my channel, the cleanest Ram around baby, Howie C Stylez 👍
That is a badass idea, that will be the next thing I do to my truck! Thanks for posting.
SneakyWeasel Channel sure thing ! Thx
just make sure you use sealant on the bare metal or everything will bubble and rust like this fools will.
HELL YES , THAT LOOK'S GREAT...I WILL BE CUTTING HOLES AND YEAH SHE IS A 2017 3500 DUALLY SHE IS A BIG BOY WITH BALLS NOT A BABY ...LOL
Damn was hoping you showed more detail in the wiring part
It's a good job my friend, congratulations!
Good job - thanx for the concept.
Looks great. Very clean
Great job. Looks good.

Do you have a wiring diagram please? Ty
Can have your wiring diagram please? Thanks
That was awesome!!!
Looks good
awesome video
Daniel Martinez thx

Tyler Schutz he used taps. He literaly showed it in the video
Have you had any rust problems since you cut the chrome bumper?
Anthony Greco never had , it’s a stainless steel bumper
I thought about this but I decided not to cut into my bumper... I installed mine underneath instead looks just as good. But nice work man!
Ya I was thinking first then decided to do it for clean look
💂
Great idea! Will try on my ram later.
Do it , so much better backing at night
I install 2 round LED from a.co/bmLyAKf, when I switch from N to R, the bulb is blinking. Wondering I need new LED light?
I’m from Oregon too but I’m afraid to mess it up! I’ll pay for you to install mine 😂

It would be easier to add lights to the back of the trailer....

Daniel White yep. Nice and flush

Spliced in to trailer wiring . This led doesn’t take that much energy . So I never had troubles with it .
@@MrN0bady Thanks. That is what I ended up doing as well. White and orange center wire on a 2014 model.

Actually you can buy those blue grips water tight, they are filled with Petroleum jelly.
That is a great idea. Your diagram where you tied into the orange wire, is that a straight power or is it the Reverse light circuit?
Chuck Heinbaugh Reverse light wire
So the aux wire on the trailer plug is a backup wire
Tim Giesi
I’m pretty handy but not an electric type otherwise i would of done this on my truck but great video and great result !
Thank you

@@Italianborn U can google the socket pin map and you know where to go: www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx
anyone know why this is gonna rust out the bumper?
That bumper will now begin to rust where you cut and drilled. Only a matter of time before the crome begins to bubble and fail. Also the crimp connections underneath will corrode.
Two words: Shit work.
All that great work and you used a T tap?
Yes I agree ,they'll corrode and delvelope a poor connection
But if you connect the lights to your trailer auxiliary.. isn't that a constant draw?? How did you keep the back up lights from staying on when ever the truck was running?? Did you use a relay??
Ofcourse not , auxiliary back up lights comes one when in reverse gear .
Oh hell no, not cutting holes in my baby.
Why you hook them to the trailer lights when you don’t have a tow package
Kyndall Fennell I had Towing package in this truck .
I do the same as you, but it doesn't work for me when I put the reverse gear in.
Must not connected to the right wires

Check with with voltmeter if you getting positive to your bulbs , if yes then check the ground , could be rusted . But it is definitely wired problem
Fuse burned

Totally agree . But it worked for a while surprisedly . Went thru snow and long rain seasons we have here in oregon . Never failed .

I’ve wired it up to the original back up wiring that goes to the trailer outlet
MrN0bady buddy even if u show me that in a video I’ll have trouble following you..again I’m not so handy on the electric stuff
where you located in oregon?
Redskins 4 Life Vancouver 😁
Any rust problems with the chrome?
No it’s stainless
Bwaahhaaa...stainless Thats a good one. You dum dum.
@@maxpain1947 yes he will eventually have tons of rust in those spots. his bumper will rot off in a few years.
You guys do know a lot of bumpers are stainless right? My 2017 2500 is stainless.
How many inches are the lights? 4 ?6?
4”
MrN0body Im planing on doing this today since I’m off. I have a grinder with a cutting wheels on it. Do you think that will cut through the bumper?
you are from oregon can you help me with my truck i like your style

instead of putting mine in the back i will install them in front, my ram does not come with fogs
Ya mine didn’t have dogs too . Hate base models lol
The scotch locks are the worst thing you could have used.
It’s electric tape . But ya I it’s not the best way
