- This week I install the Silverholder led hood light strip on my ram 1500, and show you how i did it step by step, It has an awesome startup sequence!
Racing season is just around the corner so make sure to subscribe and hit the bell so you don't miss anything!
As with all these videos, do everything at your own risk! If you are not knowledgeable enough to install correctly, please have a professional shop help you out!
Make sure your fuses/fuse taps are inserted the correct way and not backwards! ALSO pick a fuse slot that isn’t important to the vehicle operation, like aux or spare, just in case the fuse does pop, you aren’t losing a crucial part to your vehicle running

Finally! An installation video that actually shows and discusses how to mess with the fuse box to light these up! Thank you!
Glad to help!🙏🏼
I definitely appreciate your simplistic explanation for installation. Thanks
Glad it helped!🤘🏼
Rock -N -Roll ...! Passion, Skill and Knowledge ... Great video and 1 less truck fire for me!
Dude great video honestly the best ive seen so far on this current subject and you even went in depth with the incorrect and correct way. Keep makimg content youre the real deal! 💪
I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!🙏🏼
Man this is a well detailed video. Thank you man. I just purchased. I haven’t installed yet but I will later today.
Thanks for watchin!🤘🏼
I just bought an LED strip like that for my truck and gonna get some other LEDs to go around the bed and two strips to go under the hood for better lighting there also and this video helped show me how I should actually do it
Appreciate the thorough walkthrough and link to fuse taps! Looks amazing man
Thank you for watching!🤘🏼
Mannn thank you so much for braking it down the way you did!! What a great way to explain this! For sure I will let you know when I get my lights thank you very much! You have a new subscriber here
Thank you I very much appreciate it!!
Great video! Would only suggest adding a little electric grease to the wire ends to prevent corrosion. Other than that, great step by step!
Great point about starting in the middle!
Thank you for a great video ...beautifully done.
I appreciate it, thank you!!🤙🏼
Thanks very much for a very easy and simple way to install these lights.
Happy to help!🤘🏼
Knowledge is magic thanks my man very professional!

You are the man, thank you for doing great video. Keep them coming.
Thanks, will do!
Excellent install video. Thanks now I will install mine
Thank you! Im glad it helped out!!
Great instructional video, thank you. It would've been nice to see the scanning light when you turn your beautiful truck on.
Thanks for the guide from Sydney NSW Australia 👍
Thanks for watching!🙏🏼
I watched a number of similar videos and yours is definitely my favorite. But for some reason nobody covers the little issue I had of not being able to close the fuse box cover with a wire sticking out from the fuse tap. I had to cut a notch in the lid for the wire with a Dremel so I could close it. Maybe this was obvious to others but I had to get over my OCD reluctance to "damage" anything on my new car. I reasoned "it's just a lid, who cares" :-)
I appreciate it! Yes, all i did was took a little file and just barely notched it so the wire doesn’t get smashed!
you could always locate where all the factory wires enter into the fuse box from the bottom and fish it in from there somehow
Great video, thanks from 🇨🇦
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!!🤙🏼
Thanks for the tutorial!!!
Much love from Texas bro
Thanks for watchin!!🤘🏼
This is sickkk
Great video explanation/demo. I just received my LED strip fir my Ram 1500 Laramie.
Thanks for the video. 👍🏾
Glad you enjoyed! I really like how it turned out on mine!
Not gonna lie, that looked sick as hell. I actually really like that. I did have grille lights on my front grille on my Silverado, they were a separate piece of plastic that came down the sides on the inside and across the bottom like 1/4 of the way through and I cut the sealant they used off like some kind of silicone or something and I took the white lights they had in them and replaced them with some other RGB led strips I bought off Amazon that were meant for the eyebrow lights and the had a switch back function too. I put it all back together and sealed them again myself, which I thought I 100% sealed them back, here in Florida we had a nasty week of rain and somehow rain got into the plastic housings and friend the LED strips because the strips I used came in the same rubber covering but I had to take them out to fit in those pieces for the grille. So now I’m on attempt 2 with different LED’s but actually might not use them after seeing this, what I might do is get 2 of these strips and make a whole outline around my grille, maybe take some of my green vinyl tint and wrap them in it so it gives off a green tint instead but hella sick. I totally dig it.
That sounds like a cool idea, let me know how that works if you end up goin that route!🤘🏼
Just gave your truck a huge funky unibrow
I can finally do mine thank u
I was able to get that nice animation on start up by fuse tapn my parking light fuse. It may get annoying seeing it every time you open/close doors but it doesn’t stay on the whole time and when you remote start it the lights are nice
Nice! Good to know!!
Excellent Explanation. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for up close explanation of the fuse placement.
Lemme know if you have any specific questions! I might be able to help out!🤙🏼
@@DakotaNationRacing Appreciate that, brother. 🤜🏽🤛🏽

Appreciate it! Thanks!🙏🏼
Very good video and the music is amazing

Nice job
I have a Refreshed 2022 Silverado 1500 RST. I installed this recently on my truck and maybe can help someone out there who may have some questions on this install with the same truck. Firstly I installed it on the actual hood of the truck in front of the weather strip(just my preference). You cannot see the light at all from installing it in this location(tape the light itself almost dead even to slightly proud of the edge of the hood). I ran the wires through the hood and grounded it to the negative battery terminal with a crimped electrical eyelet. The positive(red/hot wire) I ran to the engine fuse panel and used a fuse tap into fuse #28 (Park Lamp Mirror/Grill) using a micro2 5 amp fuse. The light draws about 2 amps so you don't need anything above 5 amps. When installing the fuse tap(install factory fuse on the bottom then the new fuse where the wire is part is) pay attention to the way you pull out the fuse from the panel, you will want to install the new fuse tap in the same direction. The orientation does matter so the spades should all be following in the correct direction.(watch a fuse tap video if you are unclear of what I mean.) It can potentially cause electrical issues if you do not have this orientation correct even though it will "work" either way you put it in. Those of you who have this truck know that when you hit the unlock button there is factory dynamic light show with the blinkers. When using fuse #28 the led light strip WILL activate as well when you unlock the doors in-sync with the front blinkers. The dynamic LED light will NOT stay on constant with just the DRLs on during the day. When the head lights are on at night the LED light will do its automation when the truck is started and stay illuminated until you shut the truck off. Hope this helps!
Great points, thank you!
Thank you for the help
Saw a different video earlier labeled "simple" but he made it complicated. This was so much better. The brown step side looks sweet btw!
Appreciate it, glad it helped!🙏🏼 the rusty truck will be back at the racetrack here shortly!
Fantastic video
Thank you!🤘🏼
❤thank you👍🏽
It looks clean man nice .👍
Appreciate it!🙏🏼
Thanks for this! I watched this video wondering if it would be too challenging for me to install and I'm thinking no. I just need to get the fuse caps. Thank you!
Glad to help!🙏🏼
Very good video bro
Appreciate it!🙏🏼 thank you for watching!!
I just have a question please so if you using the fuse tap does the fuse have to be the same number as the one your stealing from ? And what fuse would you recommend you hook the tap up to exactly cause I’m trying but have no clue what to do fr
Now I can order me one thanks!!!
Glad you enjoyed!🤙🏼
Cheers Dude :)
Thanks for watchin!🙏🏼
Great video, precise and straight to the point! Would it better to attach the red wire to the day time running light fuse or just any fuse that has no power when the car is off? What about the Amp? Dose it matter since the fuse tap is 5 Amp? Do you need to find a fuse (no power when car is off) that is only 5 Amp or any Amp is ok? thanks. Subscribed and thumbs up
You can run it to your DRL fuse if you would like, any amp should be fine, if you bought the same one as me its already protected with an inline fuse so you don’t need to find a fuse that is only 5 amp!
Great video! Thanks as always for your content! Quick question... How bright are they during daylight? I have halogen DRLs and would like to add a more modern look to my vehicle. Thanka again!
Thank you! The strip light is just like a DRL as well, you can see it during the day decently well depending how bright it is and obviously brighter at night. They are just meant to give your vehicle a different look, they dont project enough light for you to drive with like a headlight does, it’s strictly for looks but i like how they look!🤘🏼
i have mercedes ben glb 180 . could you please tell me which Fuse should I remove and I bought also fuses and the cable . which one should I remove and should I insert
Great video!!! Finally found a video where you do it correctly unlike all of these stupid people inserting the wire right into a relay... I bought the same LED strip but mine has a turn signal option. Any idea on how to make it work with the turn signals?
Sorry I haven’t used the one with the turn signal option so im not quite sure!
Nice video thank you 6:48
Appreciate it!🙏🏼
what is the lenght of the led strip would you recommend for a ram 1500 - crewcab. awesome video by the way - just subscribed.
My truck is a 1500 crew cab as well and i got the 70”, i appreciate the support!!🤙🏼
Thank you🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Thanks for watchin!🤘🏼
I installed an orange one to match my clearance and mirror lights on my Ram. Told by an officer that the hood light is "not legal" to have as they are not DOT approved. 🙄Another great reason to be pulled over in VA. Have read of many people having issues with the light strip failing. When it does plan to go to single orange lights in grill like the Raptors have.
Thats frustrating! Those lights don’t project a ton of light out, so you would think if people could just see you better it would be better?🧐 i do like the raptor or TRX amber look though!
Great video! Just one question. I purchased the one that would work with turn signals as well. Any video or advice on how to connect those wires to work when turn signal is on? Thank
You in advance.
Thanks! I haven’t installed that style yet but i’m guessing you’ll just need a couple wire taps. Find out where your turn signal wires are and wire tap them to the wires on the strip light, hope that helps!
Nice. Now I just need to find a spot for my train horn on my 2019 Sierra.
Horn blaster makes a really nice kit that goes where the spare tire carrier
I’ve got a 2020 F-150 and I had the horns installed under the bed and the compressor bolted into the bed just behind the cab.
Hey quick question, I really liked the sound of your exhaust, what kind of exhaust system you got in your ram?
ua-cam.com/video/49tkLsFwwaI/v-deo.htmlsi=_nsgqjuMIkayw81q
Here’s a video on how i did my exhaust! Its just a muffler delete so its really cheap, i added a 3”-5” exhaust tip as well!
Great video just one question which fuse do u choose to use or how do u determine among the fuse inside the fuse box is there a specific one and how many amps
Choose one thats not vital to the vehicle running, i used my seat heater slot (even though my truck doesn’t have seat heaters in it). You want a slot that only gets power when the vehicle is running or your light will be on all the time. The strip light should already by protected by the inline fuse that comes with it, so just use a low amp fuse like a 5 if you got one
What do you do if you have to pull your grill out and change a headlamp
I would just pull the edges off the headlights and leave it attached on the grill! I have some 3m double sided tape id use to re-attach everything when i put it back together!
I don't know how but I've never taken off my grill to replace a headlamp on my headlights (RAM 1500) I can take off the whole assembly somehow without taking that big grill off
if I'm tapping to a 15amp fuse, what fuse would I use for the top slot? 15amp is the only size that fits.
also, I can't seem to get a snug fit while using the fuse adapter and the LED lights are very dull....any help is appreciated.
You can use like a 5amp for the top, the light should already have an fuse built into it. You might just have the wrong size? I didn’t have any trouble with the fitment, everything was tight for me, maybe try a different fuse slot! Also I haven’t heard anyone having any problems with dull lights, you might’ve got a bad light from the factory
Great video I just have one question what do you do with the negative wire when you have the fuse tap ?
The negative goes to the negative post on your battery
The one that JL auto sells is 4 leds instead of just one led strip
In person are you able to see each individual LED or does it actually diffuse and make it look like one light?
I know on camera it looks really nice and diffused and like one light but I've seen some of these things in person and oftentimes the cheaply made ones you can see each individual LED in person
It actually looks like one light! Unless you stand up real close and look for individual LED’s, you won’t notice. I’ve never noticed it but i just went and looked and im still happy with it for sure!
@@DakotaNationRacing awesome thank you
Hey loved the vid but newbie here still a bit confused on the fuse box install, the strip I bought says it’s a 12V and when I look up the fuse box amps for my 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid the DRL is a 7.5A so do I just plug the piggy back into the DRL port and put the old plug into the bottom of the piggy back and tie the wires together and it would work? It’s okay that the DRL is 7.5A and not 12? would rly appreciate your help thank you in advance!
Im not familiar with hondas but it sounds like you may just be mixing up voltage vs. amps? When the light strip says its a 12v, that just means its for a 12v system, like cars and trucks, etc. The 7.5A that your stock DRL’s say is just how much it takes to power those specifically.
As long as you use the fuse tap on an accessory slot in your fuse box you should be good to go! Its hard to explain over text, not sure if i made it more confusing or not but hopefully that helps!😂 It honestly might be easier to just go to your local stereo shop and have them help you out or explain it better!
great video man just 1 question is it on for the day aswell?
Only is on when the truck is on to not drain the battery
Hey bud i have question say i only need a small for piece for my hood vent which is like 16 inches or so can i use what i cut off and rewire it all together or once i cut the led its no good? I think i have enough to do my hood?
I wish! You cant cut these lights, I haven’t looked for one but maybe there a kind out there that you can!
Thank you for this video. I’m a bit confused on the fuse tap. Does the light wire go in the tail or do I create a fuse for it?
Also what is the name of the song in your video?
Yes you crimp the positive light wire into the tail of the fuse tap! The name of the song is: Bender by Dylan Sitts
My question is what size fuse (amp) do I need in the upper slot of the tap in order for the led lights to work?
Thanks!
If you bought the same strip light i did, you should already have an inline fuse for the light, if thats the case, the light doesn’t draw very much power so you can throw a small fuse in there like a 5 maybe! Again it should already be protected with the inline fuse on the light strip!
He said don’t do it that way but my Durango has been installed the lazy way for 7 months now
I have fuse taps and was going to use one in the slot where the lights are being used, but the tap doesn’t fit into that small space. Should I use another slot that is not being used for anything?
Ya theres a few different size of fuses but if you only have the 1 size fuse tap then youll have to try and find a slot that fits the fuse tap you have and just hopefully its an accessory fuse and not hot all the time! I have the fuse tap link in the description and that one comes with a couple of each size if you can’t get yours to work out
I have a Mazda 3 2009, the ACC fuses are on the inside, can you tell me which fuse I can safely tap into in the engine compartment. Thanks
Sorry I don’t have that car so i’m not exactly sure. You can always take it to your local stereo shop and they can help you out wiring it up, finding a good wire to tap into under the hood even, hope that helps!
Do you have a link for the ground wire eyelet or can you pick that up at any auto parts store? Is there a specific size I would need?
You should be able to pick one up at your local auto parts store! I don’t remember what size i ended up using (it depends on where you are connecting it) but i can check after work today.
We i used multiple fuse tap in one fuse
And that means the lights are on unless turned off manually, nice.
I tried using that same fuse tap but I did not use Two fuses. Do I need to use two fuses when adding that adapter?
You need to use both fuses to complete the circuits, otherwise you wont have power!
What size fuse do u recommend for 4 of them? I have the same truck but I think I might wire into parking light fuse if that’s a possibility?
If you have the type of light that has an inline fuse, you should technically be protected there, so maybe just a 5-10 would be ok?
I tried to follow your instructions but when it came to the fuse box, none of my fuses were an acc fuse, I tested all of them and they were all hot, so what am I missing or is there another spot where I can get power? My vehicle is a 2007 Honda accord hybrid.
Did you have the key on when you were testing? There should be some ACC for you to pull from that only would be on when the cars on. Unfortunately im not familiar with the accord platform, you might have to do a little research to find the correct fuse to pull from! Many vehicles have more than one fuse box, sorry I don’t have a solution but hope that helps!
Brother that’s awesome. What size did you buy? I have a gmc sierra ?
I went with the 70” on mine and had extra length! Pull a rough measurement and see what you come up with but im guessing 70” should work for you, thanks for watchin!🤘🏼
Hi. I installed mine and it is coming on but stays on, it wont turn off when I switch the engine off. Its just "on" constantly. I have red wire in 10amp fuse in fuse box and black wire grounded. Are they supposed to be connected to the lights or something?
Sounds like you found a fuse that has power all the time, you want to look for a fuse thats only on when the key is on, BUT not important for the vehicle to run in case you have an issue, for mine i used the seat heater fuse even though my truck isn’t equipped with them. It doesn’t have to be tied into the lights. Try finding a different fuse and let me know if that works!
How do you know what fuse to hook it to? I have an Audi q5 and just learned that all 3 fuses are in the car and not under the hood.
Unfortunately im not familiar with audi’s! You might just want to have a shop install it for you, wish i could help more!
How to find ACC inside your fuse box? I checked mine, none of the slots has ACC marking.
ACC won’t be labeled, it just means that fuse only has power when the key is on, i used the fuse that was labeled “seat heater” since that would only be on when the truck is running! Hope that helps!
With installing it on that top lip, does it make it harder to open to hood of the truck? I think it projects the most light from that location, but I'm worried about functionality going forward and opening the hood. How does it do with that?
I haven’t tried it for myself but i’ve heard of people doing that, I know on some trucks there is a weatherstrip seal right on the hood so without removing that you wouldn’t be able to mount it on the hood, sorry wish i could help more!
When using the fuse tap. You put the old one in the bottom but how much amps is the new one supposed to be ? The one at the top. Same amount as the bottom one ? Or more.
In this case, that little hood light doesn’t pull a lot of power, so you can put a small one in there, i think i threw a 5 in mine if I remember correctly!
That last bit with the fuse tap: you put the fuse you took out of the fuse box in the bottom slot on the tap, do you have to add something to the top slot on the tap or does it still provide power to the wire?
Yes your top slot needs to have a fuse to power your light, if you leave it empty then your light wont work
Thanks!@@DakotaNationRacing
What was your center on your RAM? I have a 2018 RAM. Where did you measure from on your truck? The other thing is what size of lights did you get? 59 inches, 70? One more thing, what fuse did you use for the top fuse tap? Thanks 👍
Ill have to go measure my center, I can’t remember off the top of my head. I got the 70” light and i ended up tapping into the “seat heater fuse” (even though my truck didn’t come with headed seats its still an option in the box) hope that helps!
@@DakotaNationRacing Alright good! So that's where I would want to then? I don't have them either. But, as far as the lights go, do the 70"? I'm very picky on how I want my truck to look. I don't want wires & stuff all over the place. I have a 2018 & it looks as good as the day picked it up at the dealership. I do appreciate you reaching out!👍. Semper Fi
what about the factory weather strip thats right at the edge of the hood? will the light still show or does the weather strip cover it up once the hood is closed??
I just installed it on my 2015 1500 and the weather strip does cover it up.
think i just keep missing it, but did you say what length you got?
No worries, i got the 70” one!
so i recently bought a product from hoodflare, but it doesnt come with thag inline fuse u said, it just has exposed cables at the end. any help as to how i can connect it?
With no inline fuse you'll need to add your own fuse. He has links to fuses and fuse taps in the description. He also shows how to use both products at the end of the vid
Yes^ Without an inline fuse yes you’ll want to make certain you use a fuse tap with the correct fuse for your application so you don’t have any issues!
What if you have to manually turn your headlights on and want the led strip to only light up with the headlights?
You can tap into your headlight wire and then they will only be on with your headlights!
Would it work with a bug deflector? Is it going to be as bright or it might act the same as if you used a black electric tape?
Good question! I’ve personally never had a bug shield so im not to sure how much gap is left once you install one, it might depend on the style of bug shield you got, I would think as long as you still got some gap there, light will make it through, sorry, wish i could be more help!
I have I guess OEM deflector you can get at the dealership. It’s the one that goes just on top of grill.
There is some gap so I’m assuming it should be ok.
I like the way it looks and it’s not expensive at all. Great idea.
Thank you!
Yoooooooo. Very nice video... wanted to know if i had 2 strips, can i merge the wires together to get the same power source at the same time? Or use separate power source for each strip?
Im not sure! You’d have to just try it out, i haven’t tried it!
Ok. Thanks !
Awesome video! Which red fuse did you tap into when installing the fuse tap?
I appreciate it! On my truck it was “F96” which is the seat heater!
How to find ACC inside your fuse box? I checked mine, none of the slots has ACC marking.
Great vid thx! I had seen these LED's pop up on my IG and came to YT and found your install. Loved that I'm installing on the same truck (2500) and doing their multicolor as an insert on a Purple 68' Charger.
U can check ur handbook for the fuse layout and ideally go for DRL lights or like mine I went with front fog lights, that way I can turn it on or off anytime.
Thanks for the video.
Now, maybe I should get one.
What do you do if you connect it but it won't turn off i have it tapped into my headlight fuse in my Honda Civic but when i turn my car off completely strip stays on? What can i do to fix this
It obviously must always have power, you need to find a fuse thats only on when the vehicle is running, i would think the headlight fuse isn’t constant power, but maybe it is! Try another fuse and let me know!
Attaching to the negative side of the battery and I placed a fuse tap into the fuse that operates the radio...is that good?
Sure! I would just not put your fuse tap on something important for running the vehicle, you dont want to get stranded in a worst case scenario! But the radio should be fine, as long as the light turns on and off as you like👍🏼
@@DakotaNationRacing hey thanks for replying the radio fuse tap didn’t work the lights stayed on, not sure how to do this now, any suggestions? The vehicle is a 2017 Camry I’d be grateful for any assistance u can lend.
What do I need to search for the type of eyelet you're using? Everything I am finding is different.
You can use all kinds of different styles but if you look up “spade terminals” online, that’ll point you in the similar direction
Can you wire this so it comes on when u unlock your car with fob
Some people said they were able to wire into the headlights since they typically come on when you unlock the truck but I personally haven’t tried it!
so what happens when you have to replace the headlights don't you have to remove the grill to replace the head lights?
Yes, I’ve already removed the grill a few times, I just use double sided tape!
