Thanks for the video. It is worth mentioning to many people who decide they want to change out the cargo lights to LED, it will or might cause interference with your key fob to act up especially when the cargo light is triggered. I purchased the same ones he mentioned and although they are nice and bright, my key fob was acting up. Doing a little research online on the 5th gen Ram forums it seems many of the folks who also purchased cheap LEDs off Amazon for the cargo lights have the same issues with the key fob, especially when you hit unlock and the cargo lights turn on. When they go back off the key fob works fine. Having said that, most suggest getting better quality LEDs for the cargo such as Diode Dynamics (made in USA if you google them) or some other brand. Just thought I would come back to this video to let you Ram folks know having gone through the trouble of finding out the hard way. Either way, i will still pursue the LED swap to get rid of the nasty halogens and will also attempt to tap into this for the LED strip light project for the truck bed. Definitely a project now. Also worth noting that for my 2021 Laramie the cable routing seems a bit different than the dude in the video, not sure what year his truck is but the good thing is, it's still that same white wire with the tan on it. Good luck folks!
I have a 2020 1500 Laramie that has all LEDs except the third brake light. I swapped with cheap LEDs from Autozone. After installing, I had the key fob issue. Did you end up swapping yours with the Diode Dynamic and did you have any issues with the key fob?
Not gonna lie, i've been binge watching your channel because the production/camera work/ editing is on point and Of course I'm interested in the Ram 1500. Thanks for the vids!
If you use an electrolytic compound on your solder joint before you install the shrink tube, it will ensure that no water can get into your joints under the shrink tubing. Nice install, looks good.
Just finished up mine. Ended up tapping into power from the trailer plug and used a plunger switch under the bed cap so the light comes on when the cap is up. Super bright now!
I would like to thank you. I have completed a lot of the same upgrades on my 2014 Dodge Ram and your videos have helped out so much due to your attention to detail. Please keep them coming. Cheers buddy
Just out of curiosity, the wiring process could be used with putting led light strips in the cab, right? I want to do so they come on when I open the doors and unlock the truck.
so i been watching your video off the blue ray player on tv... there awesome ... most over my head ... but i am learning something .... i just purchased a dodge ram 1500 tradesman ...2015 ... i really do like it. thanks for sharing all your knowledge..
This is great. Did it on my 2014 and works great. thanks. I do need to get the LED for the cargo cab light since there isn't enough amp to run the led and the regular 921 bulbs.
I installed my led kit the same way man looks great but I would like to be able to use the on and off button that came with the kit too did you ever hook yours up
BoostedMotorsports I've always wanted to do that but kinda cautious to start messing with the wiring knowing what the warranty people are like here up in Canada
I like the way is hiding the lights from eyes, I did the same way mine and it does only illuminate the cargo area not the eyes ( Good job there), but I would run it from battery with fuse of course (home run) and with dedicated switch on the bed that way I wouldn’t need to go to the inside cabin to turn on/off lights on bed. Also I would be able to turn those lights whenever I want without having to turn on the other lights or the truck ignition key on. Just my opinion.
Great video. Was thinking of putting led lights on also but gonna hold off till the spring time too cold up here and I don’t have a warehouse like you lol!
Kinda confused on the fuse, you do the wire tap and the fuse connects to wire tap then to battery or to the back? And you just ground the led strips to the chassis and connect the positive to the fuse or wiretap?
Hello, Thanks for this video! I followed your tutorial to install a led strip in the bucket of my 2014 RAM 1500. Problem: when I press the switch, the lights (the original one at the third brake light and the led strip) s 'come on for one second then go off even if the indicator light on the instrument panel remains on. Can you tell me how to solve this problem? In advance, thank you for your answer!
Question 🙋🏽♂️ you tapped into the white wire with tan tracer. Then connected one end of the fuse to the red wire from the (white/tan/red) tap. Where does the other end of the fuse go? It was just taped up under the dash. Bit confused on that part only
Love this video - thank you for showing the detail of the install! I now feel motivated (and confident) enough to go ahead and finally order a kit to do this on my '14 RAM. Maybe over the upcoming holiday weekend 👍
Do you still have access to the installation instruction? Also, did you have any trouble with your key fob after this installation? Just curious, I swapped the halo cargo light with a LED bulb and had some serious trouble with key fob. If you could help it sure would be appreciated.
have you done this with a dodge dakota yet? im buying nilight led kit for my bed and going to install it in my dakota. could you make a video with your dakota you have doing this?
man that look's bad ass bro nice job on the install to. love the videos man you are really knowledgeable about all the upgrades you have have done on your truck. nice and clean factory look to if you were to have that done at a shop you would have paid out of the ass for the labor plus you have the peace of mind that it was done right. ordering the same led's for my truck and doing the install this weekend . thanks again
Thanks brother I appreciate it! I agree a lot of these mods would be expensive to have done by a shop. I'm happy to share my build and projects with you guys though and hopefully encourages some people to tackle it themselves. I wish I had of documented all my past vehicle builds on UA-cam cause all of this is nothing compared to some of my old project but oh well have to start somewhere! Plenty more videos on the way! 👍
Thank you again for the detail in this video. I ordered the same kit and installed it over Memorial Day weekend. It looks fantastic! Was great in your video, but it is even better in person. One of the best mods I've ever done in any of my vehicles for sure. Instead of wiring mine to the cargo light, I ran it to a add-a-fuse in the fusebox, and then mounted the button switch near the tailgate with some 3M tape. Current for lights: Bed lights installed. Reverse lights, cargo lights, 3rd brake light, and fogs all replaced with LED. Headlights replaced with Innovited HID kit and CANBUS harness. Next up: High beam LEDs (need to do some Dremel work to get those to fit since they all have heat sink - have you considered it?), and going to mount a 42" 240W light bar on the front bumper. We go to Utah often, and at night there are deer and elk everywhere on those mountain roads and trails.
Thats AWESOME Conrad!!! Glad you are finding the videos helpful and putting them to good use! I try to keep them as honest as possible and never trying to sell or push anything just providing no BS content that people can use to see how some of these mods turn out! Plenty more on the way 😁
Just a quick question 8:40 into your video you show the plastic step sill removed.. how does that come off ? I need to get at the rubber seal notice some rust starting to show ?
The way they shipped it, it was a ground to the chassis but since he moved the fuse to the front of the truck, he used the chassis ground at the rear by the taillight. Hope this helped
Johnbrum26 yeah half the work is done for you on your truck John! Should be able to do that no problem. Worst case scenario you may have to run a relay if the computer shuts down the circuit from too much load but you won't have to mess with any of the wiring inside like I did 👍
I have a question, the cargo light you tied into for power has an auto shut off(if i'm correct) even if you activate it with your key fob it will shut off after a min or so. If you want full control of the lights in the bed you would have to find a 12v source that's always on correct? I do construction and I want to be able to leave these lights on for awhile so i can find tools or load my truck in the dark.
was browsing through your links and have a comment that may save some people a lot of money. Due to my profession i repaired it fairly cheap but.......INNOVITED HID KITS use great ballasts and bulbs seemed good also, HOWEVER DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE for adding HIDs to the loaded rams with the CANBUS systems. ESPECIALLY do no use INNOVITED CANBUS system. the standard kit will leave you with a uneraseable bulb out on your EVIC display. The CANBUS version will infact FRY your exterior BCM #2. *I used their relay kit and capacitor/cancelers the first time, then kept the harness and replaced with CANBUS resulting in module fairlure. However if you buy ONLY the INNOVITED HID KIT and buy a MORIMOTO STANDALONE CANBUS ADAPTER ($25) all you have to due is plug it inline with you factory headlight connector and that is it BY FAR the most simple and fully functioning HID kit for Projector low beams on my2013 RAM 1500 SPORT 5.7L with ( Turn signals illuminate )not the headlights for running lights. Did not have good luck with morimoto ballasts. so grab the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. HIDs made stupid simple! Thanks for the video and saving me time for chasing that wire!...my track is full up with AUDIO power and LC2i Power wiring.
Very nice. I have a 2015 Ram Crew Cab Tradesman with the Hemi 5.7 liter no bells and whistles, cloth interior. Watching your videos has been eye opening so far. I'm looking to upgrade my Ram starting with 24" SRT chrome wheels. I've already installed a K&N filter which has improved the already muscular stock sound. I'm watching so keep them videos coming, Great Job!
Thanks Frank I appreciate your support! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and it's comments like these that keep me motivated to keep going! Plenty more videos on the way sir! 👍
Yes sir! I just snipped it off the harness located at the back of the truck and moved it to the front of the circuit before sending the power to the back of the truck.
Nice clean install and very well detailed step by step process and informing what tools, materials needed for installation. Definitely love the look and well placed. Wish I was wire savy enough to do something like that but I'm not 🤣 think you can come over and do mine 😉🤣 Looking forward for the super charger install!
It's super easy John! It's literally just a positive and negative wire! Follow this video and you'll get it done no doubt! I didn't leave any steps out strictly for this reason so people could do it themselves! 👍
BoostedMotorsports Thanks for looking out, I might go ahead and give it a try. Right now I'm waiting for my carven 5in tips to come in this Friday and I'll also be ordering some new brake light sets and there going to be smoked lens color. But I'm really stoked about seeing your charger install hopefully I'll be able to afford one some day as well lol. Btw, I wanted to get your opinion, I was thinking about painting my chrome bumper and wheel skirts black chrome colored since my truck is gargoyle colored thought it look cool having black chrome mixed with the truck color. Let me know what you think 😁
Yeah definitely! I'm not a huge fan of the massive chrome bumpers. I had them on my 2009 SLT and wasn't a fan. Painting chrome is a bit tricky cause its hard to get paint to not chip or peel without doing a lot of prep work. I would look into getting them wrapped with vinyl or even plasti-dip so that you can remove it if you ever change your mind or sell your truck 👍
Did you poke through the parking brake grommet do you have the wire running through the same hole as the brake cable? A can foresee an issue with wire chafing and a short unless you were able to also get the wire loom through the hole also. Aside from that, good install video. I plan on doing something similar to my 08 MegaCab
Some help needed here. I wire tapped to the white/tan cable in the loom under the carpet and got nothing. I tried to the #13 pin (yellow wire) in the green connecter and the power appears to be constant. I can’t find the switched power for the cargo light. Any help?
Great video. Have a question: One end of the fuse cable comes from the tracer wire, Where did you hook the other end of the cable to? I have that green connector in the same place as you. Thank you.
Hey Jose! The one wire with the fuse gets hooked up to the power wire for your light. The other wire just needs to go to ground so anywhere on the chassis mounted to steel will work. I ended up running it to the ground point on the drivers side near the rear wheel instead of running both wires all the way to the front 👍
Thanks brother I appreciate it. I personally don't mind it and just leave mine on. It sounds funny at times but I don't mind saving some gas at the pump if it means I get to spend more on modding the truck! It's really a personal preference on whether it bothers you or not. On the 8speeds you can just click it down into manual shift mode when you jump in the truck and it won't turn on. 👍
Its just a wire tap placed on the wire mentioned in the video in the door sill. I put the fuse up behind that panel for easy access before running the power back to the rear of the vehicle.
Hey John need some guidance. When you attached the fuse red wire inside the drivers door one end appears to be connected to the line you tapped into the white with tan tracer. However the video doesn’t show what you did with the other end bar the fuse. Did that end get attached to that green connector block?
Hey Robert! There is 2 wires coming from the LED light kit. For the fuse portion one end goes to that wire in the factory harness and the other side gets attached to the + red wire coming from the LED lights. The other wire from the LED kit (black - negative) just gets connected to a good ground somewhere on the chassis. 👍
BoostedMotorsports thank you John. What are your thoughts on adding a relay to the line? I’ve seen a number of guys doing that on their videos. Would love to hear your thoughts.
@@RSLWoodworking relays are better for keeping sensetive circuits separate, however I've noticed in my 2021 RAM, that i had to add a capacitor to the relay because of chatter.
So I installed led lights for.my running boards, so I can I see better where I'm stepping at night.. I tapped into the white/tan wire from the cargo lights, but they don't come on and now the cargo light doesn't either. ?? Any thoughts on what's going on? I unhooked and reconnect the battery. The cargo light came back on. But as soon as I unlocked the door with remote the led flash on and they were both out again. ??
You are pulling too much power off that circuit. You need to use the white/tan wire as a trigger, connected to a relay, which switches power straight from the battery, or a beefier source. I installed ground lights under my running boards as well. I used the lights under the driver side footwell as the trigger-to a diode-to a relay w/capacitor.
Technically a fuse will work anywhere is the circuit, fyi. As long as it’s before the load then whatever you are powering is safe in the event of a short.
Thank you so much for the video! I’m having a problem with the circuit. When I push the cargo light button the lights flash but than shut off. Both the cargo light and the bed leds flash than shut off. I tried this with the the halogens than bought leds and I’m still having the same problem. I disconnected the new wiring splice but my cargo light still flash than shut off. Can you please help.
Is your ram 5th gen?.. (2019+)... If so, make sure you don't replace the third brake light bulb with LED. Also, you probably have too much of a load on that circuit.
What I do find entertaining is the folks commenting on the warehouse lol.... while he has to go some where for that creature comfort I just walk outside to the 100x 150 pole barn out back which has tv Internet heat air and best of all a bedroom in case me and the dogs have to sleep in the dog house. Hell we prefer to stat there even when not in trouble
Pretty awesome man, love the video, good step by step. I want to do the same thing to my 01 Silverado, but I want blue LEDs to match my interior lights. Could I do it with just regular led light strips?

Niceee install I thought it was going to be too flashy but it’s actually classy. Like some nice under cabinet lights.
Very clean undercarriage. Very inspiring video deserving a hit in the subscribe button.
Great video man I appreciate you taking the time explaining thoroughly.
Great job bro! I like the end result. I’m doing upgrades and simple mods to my truck. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks brother! Let us know if you end up doing this mod and how you like it! 👍
If you use an electrolytic compound on your solder joint before you install the shrink tube, it will ensure that no water can get into your joints under the shrink tubing. Nice install, looks good.
Good tip! 👍
Looks nice and clean just like the rest of the mods you’ve done. Keep the content comming man. That pro charger is going to be bad ass !
Thanks Jeff I appreciate it! Plenty more content on the way and should be a fun build on the channel! 😁
Just finished up mine. Ended up tapping into power from the trailer plug and used a plunger switch under the bed cap so the light comes on when the cap is up. Super bright now!
Thats awesome! Definitely a good way to get it done too! 👍
Does this only work when the key is in the ignition, switched to ACC? Thanks.
Yes and a lot easier
I would like to thank you. I have completed a lot of the same upgrades on my 2014 Dodge Ram and your videos have helped out so much due to your attention to detail. Please keep them coming.
Cheers buddy
Thanks for your support Blair! Plenty more videos on the way! 👍
Thanks for the video, I have LEDlights on my RAM, but they leave a little to be desired, will probably add this to my truck !
Awesome video man! I am about to do the same and was curious how to tap into that button thankyou so much
Just out of curiosity, the wiring process could be used with putting led light strips in the cab, right? I want to do so they come on when I open the doors and unlock the truck.
wow ... what a amazing install ... great JOB!

Thanks man more videos on the way! 👍
This is great. Did it on my 2014 and works great. thanks. I do need to get the LED for the cargo cab light since there isn't enough amp to run the led and the regular 921 bulbs.
Any chance you can put the link to those Mopar instructions?
Thanks man!1
I installed my led kit the same way man looks great but I would like to be able to use the on and off button that came with the kit too did you ever hook yours up
Looks good John!
Thanks Jason! I was pretty happy with the results and was a pretty cheap mod to do! 👍
BoostedMotorsports I've always wanted to do that but kinda cautious to start messing with the wiring knowing what the warranty people are like here up in Canada
Well, you sold me these lights for sure. Awesome mod. Great video.
Thanks brother! It's a pretty easy install but just a bit labor intensive. You'll love them once you get them on though! 👍
Thank you so much for these Ram videos. Just did this job on my 2017 Ram this weekend! It turned out awesome.
Great video. Was thinking of putting led lights on also but gonna hold off till the spring time too cold up here and I don’t have a warehouse like you lol!
Thanks for the feedback I really do appreciate it! 👍
Kinda confused on the fuse, you do the wire tap and the fuse connects to wire tap then to battery or to the back? And you just ground the led strips to the chassis and connect the positive to the fuse or wiretap?
Looks great I’m definitely doing that in mine too! You should install the Deezee tailgate assist
Yeah I saw some cheap $18 one I want to test for fun lol
Great job going the extra mile with the front wiring.
Hello,
Thanks for this video!
Very cool video of how to tie in LED lights to pickup bed light source fir power
Question 🙋🏽♂️ you tapped into the white wire with tan tracer. Then connected one end of the fuse to the red wire from the (white/tan/red) tap. Where does the other end of the fuse go? It was just taped up under the dash. Bit confused on that part only
Looks really good my man!
Thanks Jack! More videos on the way! 👍
Exactly what I was looking for.
Love this video - thank you for showing the detail of the install! I now feel motivated (and confident) enough to go ahead and finally order a kit to do this on my '14 RAM. Maybe over the upcoming holiday weekend 👍
Thats awesome Conrad! Let us know how you like it when your finished! 🤘
Do you still have access to the installation instruction? Also, did you have any trouble with your key fob after this installation? Just curious, I swapped the halo cargo light with a LED bulb and had some serious trouble with key fob. If you could help it sure would be appreciated.
How good is the longevity of these led bed lights; also are these led bed lights compatible with a bed carpet ? Thanks in advance
have you done this with a dodge dakota yet? im buying nilight led kit for my bed and going to install it in my dakota. could you make a video with your dakota you have doing this?
Great video! Super bright and clean. Great work💪
Thanks Dave I appreciate it! 👍
great video bud..just did this to my 2015 ram shorty..
looks awesome!!
Did it mess up your computer and does it show a burnt out bulb code?
Where did you find which wire to tap in to. I have a new ram 2500 and I was curious if it was the same wire
man that look's bad ass bro nice job on the install to. love the videos man you are really knowledgeable about all the upgrades you have have done on your truck. nice and clean factory look to if you were to have that done at a shop you would have paid out of the ass for the labor plus you have the peace of mind that it was done right. ordering the same led's for my truck and doing the install this weekend . thanks again

Thanks for this awesome video. Your recommendation for the power tap worked for me on my 2014 Limited. Thank you Keep up the good videos.
Thanks Terry! Glad you found this video helpful! Let me know what you think of the other videos for our trucks on this channel too! 😁
You do an amazing job!

Thanks for the support! Plenty of content on the way so stay tuned! 😎
Thanks for the great video. Like the beds lights. Now I need to do it myself.
Thanks brother you'll love it once you get them on! 👍
I have running board lights that I want to put on my truck, can I use the same method with those lights?
Thank you again for the detail in this video. I ordered the same kit and installed it over Memorial Day weekend. It looks fantastic! Was great in your video, but it is even better in person. Hey brother it just pops up with the speed clips. Just grab it with your fingers and pull straight up 👍
Where does the other side of the fuse go connected to after connecting to the white/tan wire on the bottom
Same thing I was wondering
The way they shipped it, it was a ground to the chassis but since he moved the fuse to the front of the truck, he used the chassis ground at the rear by the taillight. Hope this helped
Yup
Nicely done!
Nice, i have the factory ones that are near the tailgate. Wonder if i could tap those in for extra light
Hey bud i am gonna post a pic for you where my truck pic was of what i done to my wifes truck
Johnbrum26 yeah half the work is done for you on your truck John! Should be able to do that no problem. Worst case scenario you may have to run a relay if the computer shuts down the circuit from too much load but you won't have to mess with any of the wiring inside like I did 👍
This is an excellent how to video. Thanx for sharing
Dude that was cool, great install well hidden and seems to work well
I have a question, the cargo light you tied into for power has an auto shut off(if i'm correct) even if you activate it with your key fob it will shut off after a min or so. If you want full control of the lights in the bed you would have to find a 12v source that's always on correct? Then just go directly to the battery instead and make a switch button in the trunk
Awesome upgrades John! Your truck prob looks like a landing strip when pilots look down at night lol
Haha you actually can't see the light strips unless you are 4feet tall. They hide nicely under the bed rails so its a pretty clean look! 👌😁
BoostedMotorsports I just meant how much brightness your truck gives out with interior, cargo light and headlights and fogs lol looks great tho.
Yeah its pretty damn bright for sure lmao!
They look great! To bad I don’t have to do this to my Rebel because it comes with LED’s in the bed already but I would totally do this.
Yeah you're lucky! These are definitely brighter than any factory LED. I almost bought the factory kit for mine but went this route 😁

Thanks Frank I appreciate your support! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and it's comments like these that keep me motivated to keep going! Plenty more videos on the way sir! 👍
Do an electric cutout, it'll make your ram exhaust notes richer, deep, and throaty.
Do you know the part number for the oem mopar led light kit ? I can’t find it anywhere only for 19 and up
Hello what k would you recommend? 6000k or 4300k?
For the fuse install, do you just cut above and below and attach the red wire you cut?
Yes sir! I just snipped it off the harness located at the back of the truck and moved it to the front of the circuit before sending the power to the back of the truck.
As usual excellent video, thanks again!
Thanks Tom! 👍
Awesome video thanks for posting!!
Thanks brother! More on the way! 👍
You'll love them on your truck John! 👍
Whered you get those tiressss 🔥🔥🔥
Got it. Thank you.
clean !! I just received mine and doing step by step ! 👍👍
Thats awesome! Let me know how you like them! 👌
Nice job!
Thank you good information will hang on
Hey man great videos! What are you thoughtson the MDS? Delete it? Tuned it off? Any thoughts or research?
Thanks brother I appreciate it. I personally don't mind it and just leave mine on. It sounds funny at times but I don't mind saving some gas at the pump if it means I get to spend more on modding the truck! It's really a personal preference on whether it bothers you or not. On the 8speeds you can just click it down into manual shift mode when you jump in the truck and it won't turn on. 👍
Great video. I'm a little confused on where you spliced in your power wire with the fuse though
Its just a wire tap placed on the wire mentioned in the video in the door sill. I put the fuse up behind that panel for easy access before running the power back to the rear of the vehicle.
BoostedMotorsports right on bro. Keep the vids coming. You're doing a great job helping out us DIYers out here
Cool videos. Have a 2014 5.7 big horn crew cab. Need to do this mod on it. Thanks.
What year is the Ram you did this to?
Question - how does the tape hold up to the heat?
Hey! Another great video, bought a similar set and will be installing soon. I’m wondering how well they’ve held up since your install.
Thanks Sean! Mine are still holding up great no issues and no CANBUS issues with tapping into that circuit either!
BoostedMotorsports excellent! Thanks for the info and the vids!
Good job, blue flashlight from harbor freight???
Sure is! 😂
Great video! What brand license plate leds are you running? And notifications on the dash for lights out?
Hey Wyatt check out the other video where I show which bulbs work and it has a link on where to pick them up for about $10. No light on the dash 😎
installed at the PDC?
awesome! Definitely doing it on my truck
You will love it David! 👍
BoostedMotorsports I finally did it and it didn't work
Technically a fuse will work anywhere is the circuit, fyi. As long as it’s before the load then whatever you are powering is safe in the event of a short.
That looks Great.
Thanks Garry! 👍
Also, you probably have too much of a load on that circuit.
lol funny disclamer..... great vid man!!!!
Thanks! 😁
Nice bro keep it up.
i would utilize the switch mount it on the side ez access
Looks sick man !! Do you live anywhere in southern California so you can help me lol
Great Vid!!!
Thanks Bill I appreciate it! More videos on the way! 👍
Yes.
I did it on my 04 tundra, but they were white. I'm going to do something to my 14 Silverado.
i need to know more about how you have a sweet personal warehouse haha
😆
I think the exact same thing every time I watch a video that's not at his house hahaha
Are you able to run a tonneau cover with these?
Sure can! Just stick them out of the way of your brackets 💪
If you haven’t gotten a bed cover yet, check out Pace Edwards, supper low profile, very happy with mine.
Thanks brother I'll take a look! 👌
