I remember the first time I heard Layne and Chris sing on the same song. The axis of the earth tilted by 2 degrees and the car in my front yard started for the first time in six years. Without a motor in it.
During “yeah here come the rooster” parts jerry is taking a lower harmony, other than that and the ooo’s at the beginning and end it’s just layne the test of the song, albeit heavily reverbed and layered but thats normal.
I do my utmost to ATTEMPT to match laynes, ive worked tirelessly on this song to the point i almost hate it…but the only part that trips me up is the first “ya know he aint gonna dieeeee” tricky run that goes all the way up to G4 cant recall if its sharp or flat but same damn note as man in the box which i fuck up constantly xD
It's amazing how accurately Layne was able to double track his vocals. Even his vibrato in each take matched up perfectly. Layne had insane control over his vibrato.

It fucking sucks that today's teens/kids and most adults will never have the honour to even know who Layne is let alone even hear his fucking incredible voice. I'm 20 and thank the Lord my dad educated me on true classic music
I’m 16 and my mom showed me Nirvana and punk bands when I was 11 , thank God she did because I’ve been listening to grunge and so much more ever since. It’s a shame that most of my generation prefers Cardi B over this
It's up to the older generations to keep this music going. My 2-year-old's middle name is Layne. He and his big brother will grow up knowing where that name came from!
Mesmerising vocal, and his control is amazing. He's the greatest rock singer of all time in my opinion, not just on record but live. This is where he has the edge over Chris Cornell, but in truth I think they're joint greatest - Chris has the edge in range and power while Layne has the edge in soul and depth.
@@therealmuthaphukkin.g Not ridiculous.. see beyond the wheel live 1990. Not that I think his vocals are better than Layne's but your dismissal isn't based on anything.
@@motorologist On par maybe. Only in the high notes. Layne has that uniqueness and talent that really not that many people have. He just has it. I am not trying to undermine Chris, I love em' both and I listen to them a lot everyday. It's just my personal opinion that may sound bias but I don't care, from the 90s Grunge era it is Layne's vocals that outclass everybody else's. But Chris Cornell is up there too!
Just messing around, holding back the power. A whisper here a couple humms there, then bang he opens up and it's a fucking storm. I love his voice, even at low levels. However I've always maintained that you can't even really hear his voice until his ribcage starts rattling. Just fucking brutal. The best vocalist who ever lived and it's not even close. Yeah there's Chris Cornell, Steve Perry, Geoff Tate, Christina Aguilera and a few others but seriously, it's a wrap.
Just messing around? Lol. He's giving it 100% all the time. Are you a practiced musician? If so that's pretty weird you thought he was like effortlessly performing his song.

This is actual vocal track they used in the mix thats why the reverb and delay is so clean. These vocal weren’t extracted from the song…. these are the vocals. We are so lucky to have access to the few songs out there with the actual isolated vocal tracks available. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I wake up with this song in my head I crank it up get my coffee and we’re rocking all day!! Amazing voice it never leaves you for sure!! It’s in your bones and soul!!

This track of Layne's isolated vocal is haunting; huge reminder of what we lost. At least we can still listen to him anytime we want
Can you even begin to imagine how much more great music he would have made if he was still here? RIP Layne 😰😰
