You’re the Man Josh for finding the best solutions for sticky buttons without taking out a second mortgage to send them out to an expensive sticky button restoration shop to have them refinished. Kudos to Josh!!!👏👏👍👍😎🏎️
Oh man, that project came out glorious !!! Dude, so many trial and error on solvents for sticky buttons and you cracked the code !!! Every DIY'er should pay you a royalty fee !!! Great work, looks amazing !!! Cheers !!!
It really works!!! I had a car wash use a product on my fan speed and temperature control knobs on my 2013 Range Rover sport and made them sticky. Borax was unbelievable how well it worked. Thanks for the great tip.
Thanks for the videos Josh. I really enjoy the way you experiment and work your way through repair projects. Best wishes on your and Dan's gala grand opening for the shop.
I tried it on several interior parts on my Maserati. It works. Really. I’ve Tried absolutely everything else and this system of cleaning drying and re spraying works great. Tks so much.
Thank You so much Josh and Dan. Finally got time to tackle this project today on my 09 QP S and I can’t believe my eyes it actually works so well! Just have to grab some clear coat later!
Wow that looks fantastic Josh! I can see why it costs a rather high price to get like the fabled StickyRX or whoever it was I read about to fix it when I first looked further into the sticky button issue. As far as I can see from here, I'd venture to guess this could add some value to a car.
Borax to the rescue! Who would have thought an old, old, and even older-school cleaner would work that well. Great tip! Nice results too! That car has your name all over it Josh! You've gotta make it yours... FYI: sticky plastic not just a Ferrari issue, that process was used on most electronics from that era. I had a very nice component stereo set-up go so bad. And not knowing better back then, I just tossed it out.
VHT worked great. Have also used SEM primer and products with good success like u used also. Same situation here if my wife knew I was using the sink for a project like that. ;)
Nice find on the Borax! Great DIY video! Thanks for posting! Why repaint it at all though? How do you know that the VHT paint wouldn't become sticky just like the original Ferrari paint? It looked fine after you cleaned it. Probably good to wear some gloves with the Borax?
The Ferrari paint has something in it that breaks down, the regular paint that I used won’t as it is just regular automotive paint. And yes, in hindsight I definitely should have worn gloves.
I just started with the overhead console buttons. I used the VHT Satin Clear and sprayed 4 very light coats. The buttons are still slightly shiny compared to the other buttons in the car. Will adding more coats achieve the correct appearance? Or a matte clear may be better? By the way where in TX are you?
The buttons with lettering were only sprayed with clear and look great, the other parts were sprayed black first then sprayed with clear? Can you not just spray everything with clear and skip the black trim paint? Do the two methods end up looking different? Why the extra step?
Although, not as bad going to tackle the sticky buttons on my 458. Don't have the balls to take pieces off without a step-by-step tutorial on how to remove them so going to tackle it with rubbing alcohol and a gentle touch. (Wish me luck) Never seen this approach though, super cool.
Can someone explain me what BORAX is actually? cos i dont live in USA and i never saw it in my life..is that some detergent or something else...on which chemical is based?
Just curious .. I can see you're doing some amazing cosmetic work but are you going to show any mechanical work? Open up the engine or anything like that?
Awesome work Josh. But please don't be afraid of your wife, it's not like you're doing tranny flushes in the bathtub! Best wishes on your grand opening, and if I'm ever in Texas, I'd love to see the shop in person.

Happy to help!
The holy grail to clean the stickies has been found! Borax works amazingly well with minimum effort! Thanks Josh & Dan!
You are most welcome!
Great video josh! now we just need a video showing how to remove all the parts off the car :)
Hmmm yeah
Exceptional work! Patience is the key. My problem is I want to have patience, but I want to have it NOW!
Haha true
Oh man, that project came out glorious !!! Dude, so many trial and error on solvents for sticky buttons and you cracked the code !!! Every DIY'er should pay you a royalty fee !!! Great work, looks amazing !!! Cheers !!!
Heck yeah
i did my 360 with Armor All Car Cleaning Wipes. wipes out nice and clean no need to paint..
Interesting method
It really works!!! I had a car wash use a product on my fan speed and temperature control knobs on my 2013 Range Rover sport and made them sticky. Borax was unbelievable how well it worked. Thanks for the great tip.
You bet
Nice work Josh! Patience and a good playlist makes for better painting projects.
Yes it does!
Thanks for the videos Josh. I really enjoy the way you experiment and work your way through repair projects. Best wishes on your and Dan's gala grand opening for the shop.
Thanks, you too!
Amazing job Josh. Great results 🎉
Thanks so much!
Wow Josh, great job! So, if you could refinish these pieces yourself, what would be the point of sending these parts to Sticky-RX???
Right?
Nice job... you have a lot of patience to work through all those items.
Thank you
Ferrari still haven't learned their lesson, incredible this still exists.
Yup
I tried it on several interior parts on my Maserati. It works. Really. I’ve

Awesome! Glad to hear you found this helpful

Yeah it's a lot of labor
Your patience is admirable, the result is amazing! Very well done 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
That looks Loads Better 👍 patience, persistence and competent execution always pays off 👍
Thanks 👍
Nicely done Josh, looks great!
Thanks!
Looks even better in person!
Agreed

Thanks for watching!
Well done Josh 👏
Thanks
Very good!
As soon as my buttons get sticky on my fantasy Ferrari I'll give it a go!
Haha yes
Nice job. Our old Porsche had the same problem.
Yeah
Nice job! Very nice tutorial
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice Video Josh! You are a very handy guy. Keep it up.
Thanks, will do!
Looks marvelous Josh!
Thanks
Thanks for sharing! Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Great job. Hope if you could shoot a video of how to remove the parts 🎉
Maybe someday
Love these DIY videos, keep ‘em coming!
Thank you! Will do!
Josh, you are a superhero for the borax! I tried it and UA-cam internet wisdom is confirmed.
Yes indeed!
I'm getting ready to do a few parts on my Ferrari California, how long have you had the parts on your car and are they holding up ? Thanks, Brad
Since the publishing of this video and they are doing fine
Turned out great!
Thank you
It turned out damn good.
Yes it did
Had to watch it a second time... looks amazing.... after you painted it, did you coat it with the satin clear ?
Yes
VHT worked great. Have also used SEM primer and products with good success like u used also.
Same situation here if my wife knew I was using the sink for a project like that. ;)
Good stuff
That is way easier than the old way. 👏 Josh. By the way, The Stub is looking fantastic
Thank you
Thanks for sharing. How do you feel about using Plasti-Dip (Black & Clear) instead of SEM Trim Black & VHT Clear?
I think plastidip is not very durable
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Great Result.
Thank you!
Does this work on the air vents? Those are really soft rubber material that gets sticky. Not sure if this would apply?
Yes.
Anyway you can provide links or at least the name of the black paint used to repaint the overhead console, cluster, and steering column cover?
amzn.to/3wHpYlu
Hope to see the rest of the wiring harness chaos.
Oh yeah soon
Came out awesome
Thank you

It's the soft touch coating from Ferrari that goes sticky
So I’m assuming the Borax mixture does not remove the white stenciling?
It did not seem to.
sorry one more question: would you recommend spraying the clear over the SEM Trim Black to prevent scratches to the black ?
I suppose
nice. I might try that.....
You should!
I think maybe you need matte? We're in Liberty Hill
@@normalguysupercar Ok thank you. I'm in Frisco.
How does the steering column clamshell come off. Just the 3 bolts accessible from the bottom?
There's bolts on the bottom, can't remember if it's 3 or 5. Then it pops apart in the middle.
@normalguysupercar I love you. I'll try to get it off today if the dash doesn't have to come apart I'll be ordering the carbon wrapped one.
Any idea where to get second hand LED carbon fiber steering wheel for 458?
Hmmm not totally sure
The buttons with lettering were only sprayed with clear and look great, the other parts were sprayed black first then sprayed with clear? Can you not just spray everything with clear and skip the black trim paint? Do the two methods end up looking different? Why the extra step?
It looks better
My experience with engine paint is that it needs high temp to cure. Does the finish feel like it hardened?
No not really
Does anyone know how to separate the faceplate from the knobs on the climate control?
I don't remember but it's possible.
SEM is absolutely the best spray paint product
Yeah
Get a plastic adhesion promoter and 2k matte clear
Ok
Although, not as bad going to tackle the sticky buttons on my 458. Don't have the balls to take pieces off without a step-by-step tutorial on how to remove them so going to tackle it with rubbing alcohol and a gentle touch. (Wish me luck) Never seen this approach though, super cool.

Can someone explain me what BORAX is actually? cos i dont live in USA and i never saw it in my life..is that some detergent or something else...on which chemical is based?
Yeah it's like a detergent thing
“ it is kind of pain, but no big deal” 😂
Lol
Do 488’s have sticky buttons problem ?
Yes
Is that a no time to die speedmaster?!!
I have no idea but Josh will know
Try left over COVID 19 hand gel. It's about 70% Ethanol and does a fine job. Works on computer keyboards as well.
Interesting
@@normalguysupercar I try to help and avoid waste.
That’s awesome. So dumb that Ferrari did that as we knew from a whole previous generation of cars that soft touch all turns to crap at some point.
Indeed
Just curious .. I can see you're doing some amazing cosmetic work but are you going to show any mechanical work? Open up the engine or anything like that?
Yes watch the other videos on this car
My 8 yr old daughter uses borax when making slime. It makes it less sticky!
Nice
Awesome work Josh. But please don't be afraid of your wife, it's not like you're doing tranny flushes in the bathtub! Best wishes on your grand opening, and if I'm ever in Texas, I'd love to see the shop in person.
Haha
You need 2k clear, 1k will never setup and ve soft for months.
Hmmm ok
How the ^&%#$ can Ferrari have this persistent problem with stickie buttons
Yeah I don't know
Has Ferrari solved this problem or are they still making this crap
Not sure
Awesome work Josh!!
Thanks!
