How The 1999 Kargil Conflict Redefined US-India Ties Blaming Pakistan For The War?India News | World

  • India completed the eviction of Pakistani intruders, from those icy heights around Kargil on July 26, 1999. The Kargil intrusions across the LoC in the summer of 1999 took everyone by surprise. America continued to fear that if pushed beyond a point, the Pakistani Army might use its newly acquired nuclear weapons. This was also the veiled threat that Nawaz Sharif had given to President Clinton when he made the uninvited trip to Washington on July 4, 1999. But Clinton refused to be blackmailed and insisted that only a complete Pakistani withdrawal would be acceptable to the US. And Vajpayee's decision to limit Indian military operations only up to the LoC, was really the turning point in India's favour.

Vajpayee always blunders in his foreign policy weather it's Chaina or Pakistan. One can easily understand the emotions and sentiments of Kargil Martyrs Family when ceremonial reception given to Parvez Musharaf at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Vajpayee was trying to settle things once unlike vote bank parties. He was a human beings and forceen the values of lives regardless of which country the belong unfortunately our own vote bank politics against it. As simple as that and will go on forever until unless our votebank decides for humanity instead of their Muslim brotherhood.

@@TrendSuresh No. Vajapayee was trying to achieve personal greatness. To be known as this great statesman who solved the Kashmir issue. Such stupidity does not work in realpolitik. This was shown initially by Modi too when he went to meet Nawaz Shariff before his Machiavelian instincts kicked in soon after the Pulwama incident. Of course Modi is one hell of a strategist and the people around him are realists too - so it isn't easy to fool him as the other nut cases in the Indian political sphere. So the best way to deal with Pakistan is to ignore it and let it stew in its own juice. The solution to Kashmir issue is, no solution. Paki army exists with the sole reason of painting India the bad boy - otherwise there is no reason for it to exist in such numbers. Therefore there is no need to try for a solution.

That one thing with Vajpayee inviting mushyrat to India as a "head-of-state" was not a good thing. Vajpayee didn't have the fortitude to withstand the pressure from the Americans to invite mushyrat to keep things calm on the sub-continent. That was a major blunder on the part of ABV that had long-term consequences for Indian security and prestige. Who invites an enemy that back stabbed you so blatently while you were on a peace mission to that country? As you've said it sanctifyed the pakistani dictator who had his hands stained with the blood of Indian soldiers, shaking the hands of the Indian leaders was hard to swallow. It would've been advisable to cut all ties with paksitan and let the architect of the Kargil invasion stew in his own juices. If that was done, mushyrat would not have stayed in power as long as he did even with the impending era of the American "war on terror" in Afghanistan next door.

India was denied all help by the USA during the war. Pak army was provided with maps made by US companies. USA always trained pak army in mountain warfare.

USA did not have any relation with pakistan after the end of cold war 1991.. USA openly supported india in kargil war because of LOC pov.. Pak army was trained by CCP and mujahideen not USA..Your news is fake..

The truth , galling, however remains that Pak troops occupied kargil heights on Indian side without firing a single bullet. The Indian troops used to vacate tose heights during winter to escape texteme cold. Musharraf was myopic in not being able to assess that Nawaz Shareef will not sheepishly follow Mushrraf in victory. EErie though that Musharraf so tactically superior to India was tpossessed o translucent financial credentials. His assets, some in partnership with his prime minister shukat sprawl across Pakistan.

US did not side with India at all during the Kargil. They were Pakistan's side. Even when India asked for GPS of the location from US as only US had access to GPS system, US denied it. When Pakistan lost and looking at Pakistans state and image today, US wants to push the narrative that US eas on Indias side but its not true!
