This *does* take place in a Jungle. The Urban Jungle. I don't know about you guys, but I think this was a brilliant move by the filmmakers to do that change in scenery.
And that guy is Bill Paxton, he was Hudson in _Aliens._
About the movie taking place in a city . In the director's own words give or take . The Majority of people live in town's and city's not in jungles. So he wanted to take the predator to where the majority of people live.

But there's a canon issue. In Alien Covenant we learned that an android created the Xenomorphs in the future, and this here is 1997. So Predators must be time travellers, or Xenomorphs weren't really created by David, but maybe recreated. Who knows.

The predator also has honour, in their society they like to hunt strong appointments and prove their warrior status. They won’t attack the weak or unarmed victims because they have honour. If someone was to defeat a predator in combat they are highly respected by them and are usually given a weapon or trophy by them.
What do they have against appointments?

Putting the Alien skull in the trophy case in Predator 2 (1990), was the idea of Director Stephen Hopkins, as a way of showing off all the different species and creatures that the Predators have hunted and killed. It was also a nod to the Dark Horse Aliens Vs. Predator comics.

And with these movie we saw the majority of the Predator weapons:
-The Plasma Caster
-The cloaking device
-The smart disk
-The combistick
-His thermal and different visions of his masks
-Arm blades
-Netgun
And among others; as well as their code of honor and traditions
I took the concept and added even more. It’s such an underrated movie.
In the last movie he has plasma guns in each element of his suit...god that one sucks.
The Predator in the first film is known as a hunter , the one in the second film is actually a warrior thats why he kills everything with a gun even if its not a threat plus he has the staff , blade disc & his helmet shape is different & a bit smaller!!!!! I learned this by playing AVP arcade game back in the 90's you could pick to play as between two humans & two Predators one was a hunter & the other was called a warrior
I like the breather that the Predator uses during the fooftop scene. It's like a half mask, and we can see it for a half a second 😂
The Predators (The Yautia) are a proud honorable clan based species. They hunt for sport primarily and live for the hunt. Anything that can pose a challenge or deemed worthy game is fair play, but they don't hunt/kill unarmed, sick or pregnant pray as you seen in the movie. For which breaking this code of honor they have, they'll be branded as "BAD BLOOD" and hunted down themselves. The lore behind the Predators is massive and to be blunt very interesting with the stories that come with it.

I like how that the only time we see the Predator cleaning the skulls and keeping them is the ones that stood their ground against him. Even though the Predator killed them, he respects them.

Best Predator Movie ever! I first watched this film growing up. Arnold Schwarzenegger was going to be in the movie, but turned it down because he didn't like the script taking place in the city rather than the jungle. He was too busy working on Terminator 2 at the time, do Fox wanted either Patrick Swayze or Steven Seagal. Seagal WAS going to be in the film, but Director Stephen Hopkins chose Danny Glover instead after finding out Seagal was a nut job.
This is a great movie for Predator lore.
Watching a fan film on UA-cam made want to watch a movie where The Predator is in Medieval Times On earth. Anyone else?

Fun fact the gun that one the Predators gave to the main character was supped to mean that The Predator species have been coming to earth for a long time and that the 3rd was supposed to be about how well The Predator would do against people and weapons of that era in time.

This movie wasn't great plotwise, but it was the start of a very rich lore for the Predator species. I think it's best to look at the AvP movies in this light.... that while each one isn't a blockbuster movie, each one adds another layer to the Predator mythos.
Predator's have tech and intellect, Aliens have the numbers and breeding speed. The history of how the two franchise creatures are connected is very cool. I remember seeing P2 in the theatre as I was working as an usher, and I was 'shocked' by the Alien skull on the wall. That was the earliest easter egg I remember seeing in a movie.
aliens are not dumb. remember aliens? they cut out the power. also the queen easily understand how an elevator work. maybe tho it's intellect coming from the human host themself.
@@unlimited971 Well there is a VAST difference between the concept of knowing that burning through a cable with your blood cuts the power, and the capability of designing and building interstellar spacecraft, optical camouflage tech, etc....
@@KeithDCanada first we don't know if that's how they did it. but come one. you have to at least admit they are not dumb. a drone is very agressive alone but can do almost insta the difference between armed threat and no threat at first meeting. on the other hand once you put the drone in a hive... but that would be for their number.

No idea, i think it’s a great sequel, introduced so many things from the predator, changing one jungle for another, and Danny glover as the everyman that gets into a situation that was way over him.
Yes. I consider this an uncommon sequel that equals its predecessor.
The way I’ve heard it explained, this predator was a young one on his first hunt. That’s why he’s with a whole group, has a bunch of different weapons, and Mike is eventually able to kill him. Compared to the one in the first movie who is alone, fighting against heavily armed and trained killers, and only has his primary cannon and blades.
Yeah this one you can tell is younger by how he just didn’t have a fuck he showed up to take on a whole gang like he was Hype like that Teenager hype we have when we are in our teen years and early 20s this Predator was on his prime 20s lol
Also the skin on his face made him look 👀 younger like he had the clean mandibles and little black quills and his snake 🐍 pattern skin the one from the first movie wasn’t a Elder like the Clan Elder which had green dreads and white quills showing his old age but I think the jungle hunter was maybe in his 40s or 50s in human years and was a Veteran Hunter not Elite because Wolf Predator from AVP requiem now that was a Elite Predator you could’ve tell 2 shoulder cannons and a special Alien Tail whip the power punch 🥊 glove so on Wolf was a Elite and took on the Hybrid abomination the Predalien
29:32 I don't know anything about The Walking Dead or its spin-offs, but the character Danny is played by Rubén Blades (Puerto Rican, I guess) who is a great salsa music writer-producer, very famous in those years. The pregnant officer is played by María Conchita Alonso, a Cuban-Venezuelan, very well known actress in my country (Venezuela). She also starred along Schwartzenegger in "The running man". In the 80's and 90's there were few latin american actors in Hollywood, so their presence in those movies brought a feeling of pride to us in this part of the world. Rubén Blades, as a salsa musician, is very well known for most of his work are considered "classic" and "masterpieces". I'm not historian at all, so this I wrote is just my humble opinion.

The Predators, or the Yautja, are a nomadic, clan-based society. They possess advanced technology, such as plasma weaponry and FTL-capable starships, and can live for hundreds or even thousands of years; the Predator in this film was over three centuries old and in late adolescence, while the Elder who gave Harrigan the flintlock pistol was even older. The males(and a few of the females) travel the stars in their clanships, hunting the most dangerous game in the galaxy. Most of the females stay on the homeworld to oversee the daily minutia of things and raise the children, who are too young to join the rest of the clans on the hunts. Hunters of advanced rank have the right to take their own ships and go on solo quests, far away from their clan. They are a hard people, ruthless and violent, but they have a code of honor when it comes to the hunt. The prey must be able to defend itself through natural ability or possession of weapons. Children and pregnant females are strictly off-limits. The sick and the elderly are never to be attacked unprovoked, and only in instances where they pose a deliberate threat to a Hunter's safety. Only especially challenging prey have their skulls and spines taken as trophies, which says something about the fight King Willie must have given the Predator before he died. Suppose the Yautja is defeated in combat by one of its prey. In that case, they are to commit honorable suicide, usually with the self-destruct device in their wrist computer to prevent the Tools of the Hunt from falling into alien hands. If the Elder of the dead Hunter's clan witnesses the kill, then the victor is to be given a reward-a weapon taken as a trophy from a past hunt or even from the Elder's own arsenal. And if you want to learn about Dutch's fate, I would recommend reacting to the OWLF Tapes from the video game Predator: Hunting Grounds.
I love the immediate recognition of skill that the Predator had at the beginning. Like they both turned and were up at the same time. He's found his actual target.
The film recurved an NC17 rating for the strong graphic violence. There was 20-30 minutes cut from the movie:
Scenes showing the Predator skinning his victims.
A scene where Jerry Lambert, Bill Paxton, having his spine ripped out.
The penthouse scene is much more violent as the Predator impales a guy with his spear and throws him across the room.
An extended chase scene where Harrigan follows the Predator as it leaps from rooftop to rooftop.
Keyes explaining to Harrigan about Dutch escaping from an army hospital.
Keyes interviewing Ramon Vega's girlfriend, where she claimed the Predator was a demon from hell whom killed all of the men.
Apparently, there's also an interview w/ Anna Gonsalves.
All that has Me ready to sign a petition for a Director`s Cut .

You are mistaken about that because . The xenomorph skull was a nod to . Dark horse comics who published both Alien comics and predator comics an . A cross over comic line called Alien versus Predator starting in 1989 through 2020. An Predator 2 came out in 1990. So Dark horse comics did Alien versus Predator long before the movie was even considered. Possible they didn't even know if they could . Make the movie Alien versus Predator at all.

I actually prefer this movie, the twist of the predator being in the city was really cool, the predator looks cooler in this imo he has a cool red skin to him

The comics are amazing, there's one about how the Yautja got the Flintlock Pistol which you see at the end. Its very good!

The invention of THE EASTER EGG which created the comic version and then the movie because FANS wanted it.
Dark horse comics published the alien an predator comics .As well as the cross over comic book series Alien versus Predator . Long before this movie was made in 1990 . Dark horse comics publicist Alien versus Predator comics . Between 1989 an 2020 the only reason they stopped. Is because Disney get the rights to both alien an predator. Then fired Dark horse comics. The xenomorph skull is a nod to Dark horse comics.
One of my favorite predator weapons next to the plasma caster is his capture net the capture net works by tightening each time the person moves so as the person was fighting to get loose the net will basically cut through you. The more you struggle the more it'll cut you deeper
(At 23:36) like I said Kevin Peter Hall played two characters in both prayer to movies. On the first one he played the Jungle Hunter and the black helicopter pilot at the end of the movie. On this movie, the City Hunter and the elder Hunter with the sword, Gray Back, who is also played by Kevin Peter Hall.
Great to finally watch you react to Predator 2. And since your reaction at 6:46 wasn´t " Holy Shit! Murtaugh and Mr Joshua are back again!", you are going to love "Lethal Weapon" (1987).
Also captain Murphy from Lethal weapon 1-4 was at the beginning as a Sargent in the gun battle
Danny Glover was a boss in this one. He was doing some major damage. Lol. I think he was the lead character because Swartz was shooting another movie at the time. He did a great job substituting. He could’ve started his own series of action movies after this movie.
there's a ton of lore behind the Predators. the predator in 2 is a younger(but still proven hunter) one than the first movie, hence why its less picky about its targets. the pistol given to harrigan at the end also has a backstory that was covered in a comic book- a predator teams up with a pirate captain vs his mutinous crew out of respect cos the cap. is a bad ass.

I always liked this one more than the first one. I liked the fact that it expanded the mythos a little, gave us a glimpse of something bigger with all the different alien skulls and the old trophy pistol, and also established the predators behavior as something more than just a movie monster, with the group's behavior at the end. I really like it so much.

The whole story around the cartels and the Jamaicans that was an actual real thing in LA. So to take a SCI-FI element like the predator and mixing in a little reality to it made the movie a lot better to sit through

That’s Bill Paxton at @7:15 ! He played Hudson (“Game Over Man, Game Over!”) in Aliens and was also in Terminator, Twister and Titanic to name a few other films he’s been in 🙂
Fan theory on Jerry's bullets not being effective is that since he was cloaked, the electrical force to make him invisible creates a "force field" type of thing.
Pred cloaks are energy shields as well that's why the bullets bounced off and the shotgun didn't.
RIP to Bill Paxton. He stole the show everywhere he appeared. Hudson, Simon, and Chet (from Weird Science) are some of my all-time favorite movie characters.

City Hunter Predator was one of my absolute fave characters in movies as a little kid, loved everything about him especially all the weapons. having both pred head movies on one vhs as a kid was amazing times and entertainment : D

Predators are honourable hunters/warriors
In the Predator lore that was expanded in comics, there are two types of Predators, warrior and hunter. In the first movie it was a warrior, the second its the Hunter. Hunter dont catch prey that are female pregnant, the warrior never use superior weapon in the end, thats why he challenge Dutch to fist fight in the end.
I forgot Jayne Cobb is in this 😂. If you haven’t definitely watch Firefly, it’s a cult sci fi western show that only lasted 14 episodes (and a movie sequel) but it’s so good!

The "Hero of Canton"??
These days people are used to crossovers, cinematic universes, and inter-related characters, but back in the day seeing an alien skull in this movie blew the minds of nerds everywhere. In the lore (comics and books pre Alien v Predator movie), queen aliens were the ultimate prey for predators.

I always figured it was the considerable power between a 9mm bullet & a 12 gauge slug that was the difference to the Predator getting messed up in the meat locker & not on the subway.
He did earn their respect and when you defeat one of their own, there is an obligatory "Hands Off" code they all adhere to in that individual hunt.
By the way, that was just one particular clan there.
The actor that you think you have watched him in Fear The Walking Dead does in fact appear in FTWD. His name is Ruben Blades.
Fun note: Bill Paxton is the only character to be killed by a Predator, an Alien and a Terminator. This is why the man is a movie legend. Oh an let's not forget he averts death from a tornado by the skin of his teeth in, "Twister". You should react to that for sure.

This Predator has a completely different vibe to the first one, he's a more young, tribalistic warrior compared to the one in the first movie who's a veteran hunter who uses technology to kill enemies while this one prefers melee weapons.
Most of the juicy lore for the Predators is in the comics and novels. The canon for those is that they are in the same universe as the xenomorphs and hunt them as a rite of passage.

When cloaked, Jerry was only hitting around the outer edges like shoulders and helmet area. Not center mass like Harrigan.
If you got "Back to the Future" vibes at the beginning, it's probably because Alan Silvestri, the composer for the first two Predator films also composed the scores for the Back to the Future films.

I love Predator 2. It respected what came before in the original, expanded on the lore and weapons of the Predator just enough, we saw more of the Predator, Kevin Peter Hall (RIP) played City Hunter differently from Jungle Hunter to give him his own distinction, great cast, very well done action scenes, awesome setting having it take place in the city, cool take having it be a detective story, etc. Stephen Hopkins did a very solid job with it.
