Out of all the sequels, this was the only one that actually tried to move the franchise forward while keeping the classic vibe of the first one. It could definitely be better but it's very solid imo.
I enjoyed this movie and I was really hoping The Predator would be a direct sequel to it but unfortunately it wasn't the case. I would have loved to learn more about the Yautja factions.

They were going to do a plot like they did the fourth but decided against it which I was glad. The fourth I feel killed the franchise and that ending 😒

The planet they were dropped on is a game preserve for the predators to hunt. The predators took the people from earth and transported them to the hunting planet and then dropped the people there. This movie was definitely a pleasant surprise for me. I enjoy how each of the first 3 movies are different and not just copycats of the 1st one.

I think the main criticism for this film is Adrien Brody just doesn't have the physical presence as he's never been an action star like the previous actors, personally I think he did a good job going for speed over brawn.
danny glover wasn't the traditional action star either, thing is adrien brody did a good job in King Kong only 5 years earlier. i think people just expected too much or that it would be a lot more similar to the first movie than it was. i think the supporting cast wasn't up to snuff compared to the other two movies before. although i didn't mind them, people have a lot of issue with topher grace being an action actor for one. danny trejo was underutilized compared to some of the less accomplished actors as well.
also perhaps the idea of a super predator was a bit cheesy/cliche.
Brody was pretty shredded for this movie, I watched a making of a while back and he went through extensive workouts and combat training to accurately portray a special forces operator.
I appreciated the storytelling with the swordfight. After being manhandled in the pocket, Yakuza guy goes for hit and run tactics. When those result in bad trades he goes for the killing blow regardless of his safety. It wasn't mindless swinging, I liked that.
That was a true samurai battle and death.
I don't believe katana would kill the predator. Third one survived 10 grenades and bullets.

A masterpiece compared to the last Predator movie.
The predators were abducting random killers from earth and taking them to a planet the predators used as a game reserve. Essentially a large park they use for hunting and they re-stock the game (humans) regularly. Every human character we see is some level of killer/combatant. Cartel muscle, Yakuza, Mossad, mercenaries, etc.
So the Predators are actually good guys....?

I think the newer era super predators like in The Predator may be "evil", but every other predator we have seen on film wouldn't qualify for either category.

Predators has a double-meaning in this movie. There's the Yautja species, and all of the people they captured could be considered predators in their own ways.
The Beserker Predator has an Alien jaw bone on his helmet
In the trailers they made it look like there was like 20 predators because in a scene it showed like 60 lasers pointed at the main character.

This movie and terminator salvation are both very similar in the fact that it was the only movie in the series actually trying to advance the story and take it to the next step but got trashed on for it. Very underrated

The lore is found in the comics, the race name is Yautja, they are an advanced spacefaring race. They are divided into clans that are ruled by the greatest hunter, the small predators in this movie are lawless and clanless that's why they have a hunting reserve.
Brought together on a mysterious planet, a mercenary and a group of coldblooded killers now become the prey. Hunted by a new breed of Predators. There are multiple different clans of Predators with different traits. The Yautja (Yaht-Jah) is the Predators species true name.
The classic Predator is the most well-known Predator type. They prefer to use fewer weapons than other types, resort to little armor and choose to mostly hunt humans in the hot climate. They usually only use the shoulder cannon and wrist blades.
The Lost Tribe Predators were a type of Predators who hunted together in Los Angeles in the late 90ties. They had darker skin than the Classic Predators and liked to use different types of weapons to hunt their human prey. Their weapons included the disc, speargun and combi-stick. They were also more reckless and left some of their weapons behind for humans to find and use.
The young blood Predators are juvenile Predators who have not been blooded yet. This means they have not participated in an official hunt to gain them a blooded status. Usually, on this hunt the Xenomorphs are being hunted. When the hunt is successfully completed, the young blood Predator will blood himself by marking his mask and forehead with his clan symbol.
The elder Predator is a leader of a tribe or a clan of Predators. They are centuries old and have endured several hunts and gained many trophies. Generally more wise than their young companions, they choose to stay in the background and evaluate on the hunt in the end.
Elite Predators are experienced hunters who have not reached the elder status. They are blooded warriors who have many trophies and have gone on many hunts usually on different planets. When needed, they are sent on special missions like saving and teaching Young Bloods, clearing out Alien infestations or stopping Predator tech from falling into the wrong hands.
The super Predators are different subspecies of Yautja who are physically stronger and more vicious than the regular Predators. They have red eyes and more reptilian appearance. Their dreadlocks are more swept back and their face is longer than the regular Predators. When hunting, the super predators tend to use traps and Hell-Hounds to flush out their prey.
The Assassin Predators (also known as hybrid Predators) are a group of Predators who genetically enhance themselves from species on several planets, including Earth. This is one of the physically biggest types of Predator, even bigger than the super Predators and about the same size as the black goo infected Predators. They seem to fight other Predators and are able to do so easily due to their massive size. Not much is known about them.
The bad blood Predators are a type of Predators who are disowned by their clansmen for breaking the rules or conducting something criminal. They are often mentally unstable and tend to kill anyone or anything in sight.
The enforcer Predators are basically the Predator police force. Instead of hunting humans or Aliens, they hunt down criminal Predators who have broken the rules. The enforcers are known for their white armor and spiky helmet. They tend to be focused on their mission and are not distracted by other hunting opportunities.
The ancient Predators are a type of Yautja who are several centuries, some even a millennia old. They have moved on the from the clan elder roles and are basically doing their own thing in retirement. The ancient Yautja are also referred to for wisdom and knowledge by the younger hunters.
Thats the end of the lesson. Class is dismissed.
Also the planet was a hunting preserve that the Predators use. There are more hunters using this planet which is why there were more prey dropped there at the end of the movie. They communicate through hand gestures and snarls. They do also have a home planet where they live in a tribal way similar to indigenous cultures and are highly intelligent. They use high tech weapons, gear, and vehicles while incorporating their old native heritage.

@@nicolbolas8758 In a showdown situation, the scales are more in balance because both combatants are highly skilled. That's why the Predators take off their armor in those situations instead of doing the usual hunt-kill thing. It shows that they honor and respect the human's skill, so it's willing to put it's life at stake. They've done it in P1 and P2 as well

At least it was a nearby gas giant. This, being tidally locked and the outdoor breathable atmosphere make an interstellar trip an unavoidable conclusion.

This movie is really great, my favorite part is the duel between Yakuza and Falconer.
Many would complain that is more posturing and less action, but I love it because after two movies that tried the same but the build up was anticlimactic, Predators manage to make this duel a reality and second because both swordsmen take their time to know where to hit a killing blow to the other.
I learned from Yakuza games that they’re real snappy dressers.
This is probably my favorite Predator movie.

for me the best fact of the AvP Movies were the lore about the big Corporations Weyland from AvP 1 and Yutani Corp. in AvP 2 , so the Corporation From the Alien Movies Weyland-Yutani has definetely the knowledge of both Species :)

Like you, I thought that Edwin was there to be the groups' medic. That he ended up being an absolute psycho, even worse than an actual death row inmate like Stans, is a twist I actually didnt see coming.
And I'm probably in the minority here, but I totally buy Adrien Brody as a hardened mercenary.
I was wondering why he was there since all of them seem to be dangerous rejects of society.
I wondering what he did to be there, so I never trusted him, but I thought he would have turned out to have missed off teh wrong person or abandoned ppl

The predators abducted earths and other planets also best killers (good or bad) and took them to this planet which they used as their own personal hunting ground. They don’t remember because they were drugged knocked out etc. and woke up falling with the shoots already on them.
So, apparently James Cameron (director of Aliens and Terminator 1&2) gave some ideas to legendary movie creature creator to Stan Winston for the original Predator design.
Specifically the facial mandibles.

Should check out (1) PREDATOR: DARK AGES - UA-cam award winning fan film from a few years back, I think it could be a great idea if they decided to go back and show the first hunts and do a series of movies leap frogging through time and across cultures covering major historical conflicts.
Apparently warner(Disney) is making a movie that is an exact rip off of that fan film, and in true Hollywood fashion the leaked photos look worse than the low budget fan made product
I do like how there's more than one meaning behind the title _"Predators"._ Not just because there are multiple Predators themselves, but that it also refers to the human characters being the Predators of their world.
Definitely the most clever thing these movies have done since the original.
I love this movie to death!!!! I was mad as hell they didn’t continue with this storyline. They have a sequel comic but it doesn’t really go far.
I really liked this movie when i first watched it but once I learnt more about the extended lore I wish they explained that the other predators were genetically outcasts which explains the regular predator being chained up.

When the DVD first came out there was a comic that came with it that explained. That light they said they saw was the predator shoulder cannon set at a stun capacity that knocked them all out instantly

Nikolai is played by Russian actor Oleg Taktarov, former UFC MMA fighter ( some of his fights are epic and brutal), stuntman and practitioner of Sambo and Judo. One hell of a nice guy who's very humble and friendly. He's been in a number of western movies, playing Russian gangsters, prisoners, cops, Spetsnaz,bank robbers you name it he's done it.Over 40 movies in total all over the world. He's also in a number of movies as part of the fight and stunt crew.
The setting the twist the fights I love this film I don’t get why people think this is a bad film it’s fantastic in my book.
You can thank the late but very talented Stan Winston for the iconic Predator design.

I hope you got the point that the title of the movie "Predators", referred to the humans and not the alien hunters. Every human in this movie was a predator. Sniper, Cartel, African Warlord, Russian Mob, Assassin, Yakuza, Serial Killer, Death Row.
Pretty sure the sniper was Mossad and the Russian was Spetsnaz. Brody looked like an independent contractor.

The Predator was the only sequel that tried to explain the backstory of the alien species more. Heavily bombed but i get why. Still a fun movie

I always thought this IS what the predators do in their free time, this is weekend hunting with uncle Billy, an escape from the boring 9 to 5. Can't be thrilling if there is not chance of a freak accident and dying.

I believe Alien VS Predator was before this one so some of the lore that was uncovered in that one will be unknown to you as you watch this one. Not a huge deal but best to watch in release order.

This is a safari planet for the Predators. The Predators aren't dropped there. They go there to hunt. Pretty simple premise.

Saw this right when it came out in theaters. Can't describe how awesome that very short scene was with the Asian man at night with the sword one on one with the Predator, night time, windy, tall grass, just enough light. What a beautiful mood.
Ok so for clarification. These “predators” are disavowed clan members. They broke the honor code so that’s why you find the classic predator strung up because he was probably sent to hunt them down but was beaten. This group is also a group of elites they were on track to be promoted before they broke the code. This is underscored by the fact that they hunt the unarmed and use a plant to keep track of prey. This “ game reserve planet” is probably a hideout too.

The way I think is that they scout worthy people on Earth to hunt. Which is why the serial killer(doctor) was there. Nobody knew who or what he was. But the Predators did.
As bad as people said this movie was, i actually thoroughly enjoyed it the first time i watched it. We actually got to see a lot more about the predator and the whole setting and storyline was fun. Definitely a step forward for the franchise whether it was liked or not. It'd be boring if it was just jungle, city, jungle, city etc but this one had a whole different feel given the circumstances
This movie is called Predators because they have shipped a load of criminal and sexual predators to the planet of the predator so the Title is actually referring to the Humans not the Predator Species
Well, the teory that most of the fans agree is that this kind of planets are designated to train the young ones before their challenge to adulthood, and that is the reason the older ones get them little targets to hunt, but everything changed with the inner war in their planet.
The Predators in this movie are criminals(who only make up 2% of Predators) called Bad Bloods who don't adhere to their honor code. The smaller one was likely a Hunter(Predator Cop) who failed in his mission.
The Predators have the best hunting preserves. A whole planet to hunt on? And those crazy alien hunting dogs.

The issue with the Predators is that the more you know about them, the less scary they are. That is why the first one, regardless of whether or not any subsequent film is made better, will always be the best one because it maintains the mystery pretty much to the end. Sure you gradually find out he is an alien but even his motivations remain mysterious until the third act. This is a good movie but it is about as far as they go trying to expand the mythology.

Honestly, this was my first Predator movie I saw when I was a kid. This film hands down was my my introduction to the films in general, and this was my favorite Predator film.
Yes, nothing beats the first one, not even Prey. But let's face it, Predator, Predators and Prey, are in my opinion, the best films in the franchise. Including the first AVP film
This would be the fifth Predator film, since the Alien vs. Predator films were set in the Predator setting.
I like the fact that the "dogs" were called back because she was about to self terminate........that's why they called them off, that and they got DT and killed him.
Fun fact the russian dude in the movie is spetsnaz elite special forces like navy seals in the US but there training doctrine is even more intense then the navy seals stating to overcome any enemy or adversary at any cost including ones own life. So by detonating the grenades killing himself and the predator means he fulfilled his mission. kind of like the klingons from star trek motto (Today is a good day to die )
Most of the Predator lore is found in comic books and novels. The 4th Predator and the AVP films do go into some of their background and lore, but not very much.

So the Russian in this movie, Oleg Taktarov is a former UFC Champion. He won UFC 2 after a grueling 30 minute single round fight. Dude is legit.

I enjoyed this film, I thought it was a good homage to the first film. Adrian Brody really surprised me, I never expected him to actually be a decent action hero. A 5th film is currently in development.
If you watch the commentary on you'll find out that they gave the actor that plays the convict's wife PTSD. She had nightmares for weeks because she was on set when the character was killed and saw the dummy look alike of her husband get his spine and skull ripped out.
The predator species is called Yautja and the super predator may be a member of a subspecies or just an genetically enhanced form of predator. Their species may spread to many planets and have been around long enough to begin evolving to adapt to other worlds. They are also capable and willing to manipulate their own genetics.
I really liked this movie. Very interesting characters and Predator lore.
Since Disney bought fox studios the own the predator and they are planning on a reboot for the franchise

Based on just the films, it looks like there are different tribes of Predators and they all have different goals and they fight eachother. I think the traditional Predators like humans and are the ones that keep coming to earth (and building civilizations like in avp).
Also, beautiful casting of Eric Foreman there.

It's still a much better movie than the 2018 movie. It's more in keeping with the spirit of the original, with great special effects and predator designs, and no dumb humor.
The Predator and Alien vs Predator spin-off novels of the 1990s go really in depth on the Predator culture and lore, I think you’d love them a lot if you’re still looking for more on the Predator culture and back story. Most are out of print now, but you can get in-print omnibus collections of them from Titan Books that collect 2 or 3 books each. The Alien ones are stellar as well, but I always preferred the Predator and AvP ones just for that extra look into Predator culture

It added a new phenotype of Yautja, with several fun twists on their tech and weaponry

Predator 2 also took place in the jungle. It's called the urban jungle.
The super predators are bad bloods that have captured a member of the jungle hunter clan ( there is a Blood fued between the Super Clan and Jungle Hunters) and have taken up residence on a planet and set up a game preserve to hunt prey under the radar

When Predator 2 came out, me and my cousin were walking around at our hunting camp and talking about the Predator movies. Ronnie said that they're going to make a couple more movies then they're going to send the survivors from the previous movies, Arnold, Danny and whoever else, to blow up their home planet. Well....we was close, sort of.
