Painting free hand perspectives is no easy task. Doing it on a video for all to see ? Well, hats off to you Michael. Takes guts!!!
Looks fab and I’m sure the painting will be fab too. Looking forward to the next instalments of the process.

This is a great example of creativity at work. What I appreciate most is no need of fancy photoshopping or complicated software manipulation to come up with a possible/interesting comp. It's all pouring out from your plein air experience, from the 1000s of images stored in your mind. It's simple, it's easy to follow and I bet you'll end up with a powerful image. Thanks for sharing your process.

You're just mapping it out. Thanks again for another video. I appreciate the time it takes you to do these. I can't wait to see the rest of the painting process.

Michael, it's nice to see the methodical approach to your sketch. This is a bit of a departure from the coastal and city scapes, and a refreshing one. I am always keeping my eyes peeled for interesting images and compositions, and they're often just things that grab me in a fleeting moment. I expect it's the same for you. The light play and the geometry of the trucks are clearly what grabbed you but the surroundings do leave something to be desired. I am intrigued by the background though. Those large storage containers could provide some interesting abstract compositions, perhaps at a different angle. I look forward to seeing the painting play out.

The patience and accuracy you're taking with your sketching is really going to help scaffold and complement your loose painting style. It'll be interesting to see how the two come together.

I already love just the sketch... the semi truck is just awesome. I think I’ll hunt for one to paint this week too

Enjoying the drawing process . The camera was at an odd angle while you worked on it and I kept thinking , “ no , the back of the truck is too high”. But when you see it at the right angle it looked great. Next time this happens I’ll have more faith ! 🤪 Tallahassee

What I sometimes do to keep the proportions correct when I'm painting from a monitor image, is throw the 4 lines of the thirds in Photoshop and than draw the same lines on the canvas. Helps looking athe the bigger shapes in relation to each other and their location in the composition.

I have friend who does that. I don't have photoshop so I imagine the lines 😂

I think the composition is good, but I wonder because you are going to use a more simple, open background, painting the trucks about 30% smaller. Especially if it's a desert, or very desolate background might make it seem like it's a "last food for next 300 miles" or something like that.
That's kind of how I pictured it.

La forma en que haces el boceto inicial, toma de medidas y referencias, ya es una obra de arte en si Michael. Por mi parte prefiero hacerlo a carboncillo, me siento más seguro así. Magnífico!!!

What I’m yelling at the screen:
    proportional divider!
    Have you tried it?

    • @chamberlainpaintings

      Never tried one 😊

    • @kathyprince1608
      @kathyprince1608 3 роки тому

@@chamberlainpaintings it is very helpful even if you prefer to judge proportions yourself in order to challenge your drawing skills, you can quickly check your judgement with it. Keeps you on track. I will say that I think you have exceptional drawing skills. You seem to know how to take it all in, look at the big picture, preview the composition as a whole in your head. But you should try the proportional divider ( sometimes called a prospect). With your carpentry skills, you could make one in 10 minutes. You might like it.
