- How to Connect TV to Surround sound receiver system setup using HDMI ARC input port, must use 1.4 hdmi cable, TV & AV receiver must both have Arc, then turn on Hdmi ARC or CEC audio setting, This setup is Vizio LED TV and Sony Bluray surround sound combo receiver But these Steps apply to Samsung, LG, Sony, Vizio, Pioneer, Onkyo, Denon, panasonic, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Also if you see New "MHL" near "ARC" inputs MHL is Mobile High-def Link ( connecting Phones & Tablets ), and ARC means "Audio return channel" ( TV sends audio to receiver ), CEC means consumer electronic Control, HDMI means High definition multimedia interface, Home theater service tutorial guide controls audio sound volume and TV will turn off and on AV receiver. this is "how to connect surround sound to tv" and "how to connect tv to surround sound" and "how to connect receiver to tv" hope this helps.

You're a legend I had it all connected but my problem was I was looking to fix the arc through audio settings instead of the TV master settings right down the bottom. So easy if you look through all the menus it's almost impossible to miss.

OMG!!! I was searching the internet looking for this!!!!! You answered the 1 simple question I couldn't find anywhere!! I have a Vizio E601i-A3.........Just bought a cheap RCA bluray HTIAB with only an optical input (only bought it bc it was REALLY cheap from a pawn shop), it sounds decent but I have to hook up the optical directly from the Xbox, because it sounds like crap with the optical coming from the Vizio TV....I heard that you get better surround sound PERIOD through HDMI then Optical........The simple question I had was......If I bought a newer HTIAB like the Sony BDV-E2100 (bc my apt living room listening area is only 10X10)......hooked that up to HDMI 1 (ARC), then hooked my Xbox one to HDMI 2, would I still get my TV and/or my Xbox game's 5.1 through the home theater system?.......
Thanks, it was helpful. I finally got the Samsung devices to collaborate. Thanks again.
Thanks!! I got my LG surround sound to connect to my Hisense TV no manual gave me this info👌👌

Thanks for the video this was very helpful this was driving me crazy thanks again
Turning ALL power off on systems worked. It was not recognizing my soundbar in the CEC arc settings until I powered off everything and allowed the Ram( read access memory) to be reset
+M S good job fixing your system 👏👏👏👍
Unfortunately, the tv is losing the ARC setting in the menu. The only way to get it back is to power off everything for a min then reboot. It seems to lose the settings after turning the tv off then it cannot find ARC ONLY soundbar again.
thank you,it did help!
OMG THANK YOU!! I WAS SEARCHING FOR THIS EVERYWHERE AND ALL I FIND WAS A TUTORIAL HOW TO CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO TV WITH BLUETOOTH! THANK YOU ALOT!! :DDD
Thanks much. Nice fix! (I've recaptured hero status in the eyes of my wife.)
thank u, I managed to do what u explained and it worked x
The problem with the surround coming from the TV is that they will try to give you only stereo. Personally I think that, especially with a game system, you're better connecting it directly to the AV Receiver. Many receivers allow to output any type of connection through HMDI, whether it's composite, S-Video, or component. Lower quality connections will get upscaled though.
Thank you! Worked perfectly.
thanks so much this was really helpful
man this video helps my problems thank you so much
Thank you so much. Just what I needed...come to Kenya and I give you a safari for free..
When you use the surround receiver's remote do you see a display on your tv screen for any and all adjustments that are on your surround receiver, as in treble, bass, subwoofer level,
Sound mode ?
Thank you for the info on how to set sound bar
Thank you so much it worked immediately!
you sir are the man..thanks for this
Yamaha RX-V379 receiver; Insignia TV. HDMI ARC compatible. AV2 default input for TV sound. Always worked over a period of two years. I never heard TV audio, not even once, through the TV speakers. Not a TV watcher here, but once or twice a year. Been six months since the last time I pulled TV audio through my sound system. Now TV audio won't play through the Yamaha. In between times, I hooked up our old VCR so my wife could watch a Xmas movie. I used AV2 as the audio hookups. Obviously, I have disconnected the cables to the VCR! I've gone through everything: Yamaha Setup to make sure HDMI is "ON", ARC, AV2, the TV speakers "OFF" (the Insignia says to turn the speakers off when using external speakers; but I have tried both ways to no avail). If my hair were not butched I'd have pulled it out by now.
Showing the settings is very helpful
HI
LG TV, HDMI(ARC) on HDMI-2
Samsung SoundBar to HDMI out (ARC)
Anynet+ must sill be turned on, even if going to LG TV?
thanks
I don't know if you can help. We just cut the cord and watch over the air TV, Netflix....We have a Yamaha RX-V577 and an LG 65UB9200 TV. We connected the ARC from receiver to TV and made all the changes in receiver and TV but no sound. We gave up trying and then was told to do the optical. We did that and now have the surround sound. The problem is my husband is close to deaf and uses a Sony wireless headset. We have an optical splitter but headset won't work.we have tried the RCA cables from headset to receiver and nothing. I moved headset and connected to another TV and it works. Are we screwed with now not being able to use it with the LG? We did use them when we had cable. Thanks.
Thanks ur video solved my problem
I am having trouble getting sound and audio at the same time when I plug my blu ray into my tv. They are both Panasonic. I bought an HDMI to RCA converter but I can either get picture no sound or sound no picture. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any hell would be great
It worked great. Thank You!
Straight to the point. Thanks,
Vary interesting. Took mine all apart for a new cabinet. With all the wire I'm so confused. Your video I think will be a great help EXCEPT I want to run the TV without the Amp and everything else with the amp. Can you tell me how to do this.

Thanks for giving trick to hard reset @ 1.06 for HDMI HDCP handshake issue solved on My sony BDV 9200.. Thanks
I have an optical digital cable hooked up from my Sony home theatre system to my Sharp TV. Apart from that to get full 5.1 sound from my Comcast cable box, I have connected a digital coaxial cable from the Sony receiver to my cable box, and now it's all set! I also get full surround from Netflix as well. The Sony system is a Home Theatre In A Box Surround Sound system by the way. I just have to switch sources to cable/satellite on my receiver when I want to watch regular t v.
thank you it fixed my problems
I will call you. here after I try again and. well. my head hurts cause of this. LOLO THANK YOU. FINGERS CROSSED
Thanks it worked perfectly
I love you...I just got it to work. Wow just wow
All i did with my my insignia TV and my samsung HTS is just plugged in optical cable into the optical in on the TV and plugged the other end to the optical out on the HTS and than whatever i plug into the TV via HDMI plays in 5.1. for example, i have my cable box and my xbox connected and they both work in 5.1. that is the easiest way.
Brah much mahalos from the 808. Thanks it works
Thank you you fixed my issue
For LG tv, just in case you are stuck, you have to enable the "SIMPLINK" as well. Works like a charm!
I have a new Sanyo smart tv with UA-cam. I run my tv through my old surround sound receiver and I can hear all the tv sounds. But when I go to youtube on the tv I don't get sound through the SS, only through the tv speakers. I bought a digital to analog converter to run an optical cable in and R/L cables out into my old receiver, which i then run through a different channel on the receiver. Still no sound from youtube?
Thank you so much , I was about to return my home theatre to the store because it didn't have optical in , but There's a question , I made a setup for my friend yesterday with lg 55lb6520 tv and samsung ht-f450bk home theatre , Here is the problem , ARC works fine with any audio file except DTS so tried to use optical audio cable and DTS worked !
so What is the problem ?
NOTE : I found in my home theatre manual that it doesn't support DTS but why it can play it through optical ?!
mine dts works fine via Arc.... u try to select audio dts in tv's sound output option :)

Do you know if this method will work on UHD 4K smart TVs? I'm interested in buying such a TV, but read reviews saying that if you hook up an audio receiver to such a TV, the audio receiver will not function properly because the smart features will take control of the receiver. If not, is there a workaround such as using an AGPTEK HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA audio extractor converter, to be able to use an audio receiver without the smart functions taking over? If so, this would be great news for those who still have 2-channel analog audio receivers like I do. Thanks in advance for any advice.
kokoleka808 if your reciver supports HDCP 2.2 then you can do it. both youre tv and reciver must support hdcp 2.2, but if you have an older reciver you can use optic cable
should help
Hi, I have Sony bravia 40w7ooc full hd smart led TV. How do I can connect home theater speakers and which brand to buy.
Thank u for this video it help a lot
You mentioned unplugging your tv and receiver for about a minute to reset. I'm assuming that's to dissipate residual power from on-board capacitors. Someone told me that if you short the plug(s) you also short the on-board capacitors. Is that true?
Thomas Schwarz yes if you unplug the power cord of a TV and use a metal screwdriver to bridge across the prongs of the power cord plug that would quickly release the stored energy in the circuit. in my video: 3 ways to reset a check engine light. I show this but on a car circuit.
Thank you ,nice simle educational video cheers buddy
Thanks for video explaining
Ok I did as u said but only my front right and left ,the bass but not the center and thr other two surround soun speakers ... they all work with the radio and movie
Thank you so much 👍
Almost gave up...Thank you…it's bn hours trying to fix my audio.
would you happen to know how to reset an i Live home theater system to its factory settings? The remote is broken btw so that's not an option.
I pretty much have the same setup as you in one room with a smart Vizio and a Samsung Blu-ray home theater system and HDMI 1 arc. and since they both have CEC settings or the other thing that Samsung calls it then anything I put in the remaining 3 HDMI ports all work through the surround sound out of HDMI-1 Arc period and now my other devices which are the Xbox One DirecTV mini Genie and the firestick they all can be used with their own remote or the TV or the DirecTV or the Samsung theater remote. which is pretty cool it wasn't always like that. the firestick and the DirecTV can switch from another source just by pushing a button on one of their remotes but I just wish the Xbox would do the same. the sound still goes through the theater system which turns on when the TV turns on but I don't know how to get the Xbox to do the same and I heard you can somehow and also control volume with the chat pad that I have on the Xbox One remote. so I'm wondering if there is some different configuration like putting the Xbox in HDMI 1 and somehow running everything through it? but my real question is do you know if it's possible to use the HDMI control setting with my other TV which is a TCL not a smart TV but only a couple years old with my Philips soundbar which is model htl3110b. the TCL has HDMI 1 with DVI in HDMI 2 with MHL and HDMI 3 doesn't say anything besides that it just has one USB and component and AV / 480 and 720 inputs along with cable/Ant/Sat in, and last a coax type black input that says spdif. the Philips Soundbar has every input that I know of including the HDMI ARC out AV, coaxial Optical digital also has Bluetooth and NFC now this is where the main DirecTV Genie box is which has the digital toslink thing also has the coaxial and in AV out that is not like the red and white it's that weird circle with a bunch of holes looks like the old Sega Genesis cord would plug in to it. so my question is even though I can use the toslink thing from the genie to the soundbar which sounds great when watching cable but anything else going through the TV can't use it and I was trying to find out if there is a way to make one of those HDMI ports on the TV work with The Arc control from the soundbar. sorry it's a lot of information but if you have any information that could help I would greatly appreciate it I'm wondering about that update method you mentioned how I could try it? thanks
Thaaaaaankkkkkkkk youuuuu!!!!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Thank you thank you!!!
Hi there,
I want to know if there is a difference between,
1.Optic cable from the source (Motherboard, PS4 etc) to Amplifier.
*VS.*
2.HDMI from source to TV, then optic cable from the TV to the amplifier.
Can the arc connection on the tv just be used as a regular hdmi for video playback? like the other 3 marked hdmi inputs. I have no need for arc at the moment. I do however need all the ports to simply playback video
Bro thank you you saved me
Good stuff i've been trying to figure out how all this works. too bad its not automatic
You need to have it plugged in the HDMI 2 (or the one with Audio marked on it). Then go to the TV sound settings and turn HDMI Arc on.
Thanks folks! You did not cover: Arc/ hdmi hookup will send on air tv sound to the receiver thru the arc/hdmi cable right? Are there tv audio settings that make that work?
In settings, advance features or audio video settings called CEC, hdmi control, anynet+ turn on. Also only hdmi cables 1.4v or later are compatible.
i buying a samsung dvd surround system just wanted to know i can connect just my tv to it just for audio only as i do not watch dvd player or any other box??
will connecting optical cable the sound subwoofer work?
Any advice on connecting an LG smart TV with a Samsung HT J5500w surround unit?
Nice I have the same Blu-ray player can I also hook up a denon receiver to play both at the same time?
For nearly three thousand years man has been searching for the lost arc .Thats not something to be taken lightly . No one knows its secrets
This did it for my Yamaha RX-V 481D & Samsung "smart" tv UHDTV.
Thanks!
You just answered my question I posted earlier. You see, I'm also interested in purchasing a Samsung UHD 4K Smart TV and I happen to own a couple of Yamaha receivers similar to the one you mentioned. Thanks for the reply!
