15 audiobooks add up to 462 hours to hear all of the books. 13,000 pages and almost 3,000 characters…. You can’t get EVERYTHING THAT YOU WANT. I view it as reading the books is one experience. Listening to the audio books another experience and watching the tv series hard boil it all down to 8 seasons at 8 episodes per season so…. 64 hours. (64 hours compared to 462 hours!). There are 15 audio books and some of them are like 41 hours and 32 minutes for “The lord of Chaos” . Be happy for getting something. When I first heard that the Lord of the Rings films were coming out I wondered if one day we could get a Robert Jordan OR Raymond E Feist movie or tv mini series. 20 years later we are and this is it. ENJOY IT FOR WHAT IT IS. ALSO, I never read the Walking Dead comics but loved the tv show that was based on them. They followed the comic series so close that it was very predictable (going online and reading about the comic book series spoiled the next 6 years for me. When it came to Glen’s death from a baseball bat….. that was the most accurate thing to show BUT the wrong choice as overnight they lost a lot of their followers. Not because of him dying but how they portrayed it.
In the wheel of time they will have to conglomerate multiple characters into - a single character. Moraine loosing her power in the tv show this early means they are combining storylines and characters to condense down to 64 1 hour episodes Multiple storylines will be lumped together to where us devoted will and should have a problem with it but again what is the right way? It’s not 1 book but 15. 462 episodes at 8 episodes per season will take 58 years….. so what are all of you complaining about???

Of all the things they changed in the show from the books, be steadfast doesn't even come close for me LOL. I'm more concerned about how there are 4 ta'veren in the two rivers and it's not swarming with Browns studying every inch of the village (not to mention the extreme insult that puts on the accomplishments of the two women who came from there. All the significant and wheel shattering breakthroughs and accomplishments they have done can now be simply chalked up to the fact they are ta'veren), or how a fade can just be killed unceremoniously with a dagger to the Head.

I think for what it was trying to do narratively, the final Arch scene in this episode was actually better than the book. Granted, it was very early in the series, but the raw emotion of watching her lose her child trumps her just walking away from Lan.

I agree this version hit me harder than the book did. It was visceral. Plus the idea that she literally lived all of those years with her family only to have it ripped away so violently and abruptly

    • @feanaro8541
      @feanaro8541 11 місяців тому +2

It creates emotional drama for the viewer but it also creates a problematic issue with Nynaeve's character. If she lived all those years with her family and at some point realized it is just the accepted test, she should live all her remaining life questioning if she is still inside the arches. There is no way of telling if it is the real world or not and that would fuck a person up@@KritterXD

Her bursting forth from the arch with empty arms really hurts. I don't have any kids but we tried for years and her acting really hits. It definitely underscores just how barbaric the Aes Sedai are with there need for suffering. It's such an old-school way of looking at "training" and they highlight it perfectly with the repeated "your grief is your own" line. Heartless, cruel, but institutionally so.

After watching the first 3 episodes, Season 2 is SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST!! (And i liked season 1) I LOVE all of the decisions they made! I am actually kinda digging the surprises. This FEELS like WoT to me now.
Things that made my fangirl heart squee:
    1. Legit, all of the tower stuff.
    2. ELAYNE!!!! Omg, she's PERFECT! Brava Ceara Coveney
    3. THE ACCEPTED TEST, yes, different... but I loved it.
    4. VERIN SEDAI! I was surprised that they combined Verin and Vandene, but I'm here for it.
    5. Adeleas. She's the Aes Sedai representation of thirst I didn't know I needed.
    6. Elyas looks FANTASTIC.
    7. The Seanchan are properly terrifying.
    8. It may not have happened in the books, but I am HERE for Mat and Min adventure time.
    9. RAND'S. RED. COAT.
    10. Interesting direction for Rand, but I can see that they're lining everyone up to be where they're supposed to be for things to come. Also, SELENE IS HOT AF...AS SHE SHOULD BE.
    11. Darkfriend Social
    12. FADE FIGHT, BRO!!!!
There's more. I really like how they're adapting it.... and you can tell they have an eye on the WHOLE story instead of just seasons.

I think it adds depth to what happens at the end of fires of heaven on the docks. It makes Moiranes letter to Rand bare more weight on the different outcomes. Episode 3 was easily the best episode of the show so far. Zoe Robbins is a powerhouse!! I think the way they did her Test was better than in the book, we got SO much Nynaeve characterisation here. Notice that in the third arch, the doorway appeared right as she was agreeing to go with Lan to the Two Rivers. This clearly tells us that of everything in her third test, what she's really afraid of is giving up. She'll pretend to hate it in the Tower and she does hate the Aes Sedai, but after seeing what the One Power can do to heal people, she's terrified of failure. She's scared that her block will never go away, and she'll 'throw away' this chance to really be a Wisdom and help people through healing. Brilliant stuff! If the rest of season 2 is similar in quality to this episode, I'll be ecstatic.

Liked and subscribed! I'm only a few books ahead of the TV show, so I'm fascinated to see how they adapt them and weave in later plot threads. There's so much material in the books, they obviously have to leave out a ton in order to squeeze it into 8 hours of TV, but at least we had a nod to Aludra and the illuminators. Plus they had to deal with unexpected issues like Barney leaving the show partway through S1, meaning they had to write a whole new storyline for Mat...
Poor Uno - especially as the actor's wife plays the Voice of Lady Suroth, that must have been kinda brutal on set! But I'm also a fan of Greg Chilingirian (thanks to Da Vinci's Demons), so I'm excited to see how they deal with Ingtar. I love conflicted characters who do bad things for what seems like good reasons!

I think the Seanchan guard picked Uno to swear the oaths first specifically because he was defiant; seems to me "pick the fighty one, who will refuse to swear, then brutally kill him and watch the crowd fall in line" might be standard Seanchan practice. 😬
I've seen a theory on tumblr that *Sheriam* sabotaged Nynaeve's test, and I like it a lot. Liandrin was very invested in getting a hold on Nynaeve as part of her faction, and she did seem upset about things not going as planned (though I'm reluctant to take anything with her at face value). Sheriam, though... sabotaging especially powerful novices seems like it might even be in her (secret) job description, and she clearly doesn't like Liandrin's "cabal" intruding on her territory and trying to force a promotion.
One of many sisters of a certain kind who will catastrophically underestimate Nynaeve al'Meara.

Each episode keeps stepping it up! They seriously established the Seanchan as absolutely horrific with how they treated Uno. I can't even imagine how Egwene's arc is going to hit if this is just like a small snippet of the Seanchan's brutality. And that Accepted test! I think this was even more powerful than the books! Can you imagine the trauma of having the memories of living at least 6+ years and having a child and family and then all gone in an instant?! I think the reveals in the next episode are going to ramp up the crazy and the stakes this season. Wow! The writing, editing, costumes, lighting, everything has been notched way up! I love how each episode got better and better, imo. I’m watching this with keeping in mind that it’s just a loosely based adaptation of the books, and I’m honestly loving this season way more than the first. There’s more book Easter Eggs, the visuals (the color of the weaves & the look of how the power is used) is absolutely stunning and a huge step up. The actors seem to be more experienced and I’m just loving it honestly. People need to understand there’s going to be vast changes because it’s NECESSARY… We may not always agree or like them, but the writers are thinking in terms of creating a show for an audience that’s mostly unaware of the books, and must work within 8 hour seasons, for 8 seasons, to cover 14 (15) novels. Deal with that fact and all the book lovers who hate on the show might just start to enjoy it a bit. I’m a die hard, but I like the show too. This is waaaay better then Legend of the Seeker doing Sword of Truth 💯!

It seems like they gave the wolves Hurin's power, that's what the seeing "visions" is, I really wish they didn't do that, but since its there I'm interested to see how they handle it. I just realized watching this how badly Mat has been burned. (Liandrin, however magnificent Kate Fleetwood is, your eventual downfall will be such a pleasure to watch.) One of the only things I really loved about S1 was that Mat was deeply empathetic. He was beautiful with his sisters. One of the other EF5 was hurting? Here comes Mat to do whatever it takes to make them smile. Everyone's riding along all droopy and glum? Mat looks around, sees the state of them, and starts a singalong. So Mat coming up on Egwene sobbing her heart out - and *walking*away* ... that hurts in so many directions. I hope he never finds out Min was playing him even a little. Stop hurting Mat!

I read an interview that they wanted to show us that people we like can die. Kind of so many shows have done this since the first season of Game of Thrones. I remember one of my favorite characters on Bones dying (Sweet) and when I read it was because of this I was so angry.
I think if a show, whose story is already written, WoT, they better be thinking how it affects everything until the end. Stilling Moraine. Killing Uno. Whatever that was in the last episode of season 1 where they appeared to kill like 5 of the long lived characters- then just ignored it in the first episode of 2. (Seriously, what was that???)
I understand they want to show something but some of this is to shock book readers. If we haven't formed a real relationship with the character, killing them doesn't tell any non-book reader anything. And sometimes it alters the story in ways that don't appear to show that the show runners know what they are doing.

If Moraine can't channel then how is she to have her place amount the wise ones? Are they going to speed Nyneave's arc this much faster? Have they thought what that means to the story? How will it affect Moraine's fight with Lanfear and the shock we have when she is rescued from the tower and so much weaker when we have already seen her stilled? Why do they want to change all these character arcs? What is their plan?
I guess I still don't trust them. I have waited all these years to see this story brought to screen. When changes are made that are so drastic, it makes me worried.
Things like the Seanchan kidnapping girls, that isn't a change from the books. It is what I expected and hoped they would do. Bring things we know were happening to the screen to illustrate who the Seanchan are. Killing Uno wasn't necessary. The scene was already horrific.

For example I wouldn't be surprised if they removed much if not all of the Tanchicho story and move up the meeting of a particular character to a different location and time. It wouldn't be a change I questioned or disagreed with. Uno's death just came a little too early in the show - 11th episode after some other changes, some mentioned, that leave me untrusting that the show runners aren't writing their own story. You are right that Uno's story is not important enough to be considered a "fixed event" borrowing a phrase from Doctor Who. It will take a very talented and devoted team of writers to pare down the books to keep the meat and get rid of the fat. And to add seasoning that keeps the same story while showing us stuff not in the books. Such as watching Seanchan kidnapping the channelers. I just don't yet trust them to do this after seeing what happened with the Witcher. And seeing Moraine stilled.

No, no, no, no, stop it with the cop out of its another turning of the Wheel. If that was the case, by book lore, everyone should have different names, locations wouldn't have the same names, etc...
That said, this may have been my least favorite episode of the series so far. While I'll agree that it's nice to see nods to book material appearing in the show, in most cases, it's presented horribly, in my opinion. Take, for example, Rand burning the invite. This was a major subplot in the book, spanning multiple chapters with a coherent set-up. In the show, it's essentially a throw-away line. Whereas in the book, Nynaeve has a throw-away line about learning the sword from warders and receives an entire scene in the show based around that.
As for Nynaeve, if the show actually respected the source material, she's dead. In the book, during her third arch test, the portal does fade away, temporarily, before she focuses on bringing it back. But notably, there were Aes Sedai standing outside the arch, keeping it active when she did this. In the show, most a day (if not longer) has passed since the Aes Sedai stopped channeling into the arch. There's no possible way Nynaeve should be able to open the portal. Furthermore, no one but her should even be aware of it. This was nothing more than the writers giving Nynaeve a third fake out death scene. At this point, it's just lazy writing.
As for Rand, meh, complete meh for every scene he's in. He and Selene crash a party of nobles, how? He talks to Logain, who should be under constant guard by warders and Aes Sedai in the Tower, who sends him on a pointless errand. So yeah, meh.
Mat's character assassination continues. I feel like the writers despise the entire Cauthon family at this point.
Perrin and the Shienarians, they could have done this so much better. For example, they could have stumbled upon this village as the Seanchan attacked and subjugated it, while remaining out of sight. They could have witness the Seanchan demand an oath, kill those who refused, and collared women who could channel (which btw, the show can't even remain internally consistent. The damane is clearly sensing the ability to channel in these women, but when Nynaeve was surrounded by Aes Sedai in season 1, they either couldn't sense her ability to channel or pretended not to, I suspect the former). It's not until after the oath is given that Perrin and the Shienarians are spotted and during their forced retreat, Perrin and Elyas become separated from the group.
So go ahead, call me a book cloak, but most of my disdain for this season comes from the poor writing decisions and internal inconsistencies.

Logain seeing saidin around Rand in the first season is problematic. First of all male channelers can't tell if another man can channel if the other is not holding saidin and at that moment Rand wasn't. Lets say they changed that. He still shouldn't be able to see because at that point in the series (not in the books) he was gentled by Liandrin. In the books he sees ta'veren aura around Rand not the saidin. One of the important things that makes this book series unique is the magic system and strict rules that define it. They shouldn't change these basic things just for an easy narration

It's fully possible that this is a case of Unreliable Narrator. Logain THINKS the glow means the man can channel, but it's ACTUALLY just his Talent for seeing Ta'veren. It's not like it has been possible for Logain to study and learn all the different aspects of channeling the One Power. Half the drama throughout the books comes from characters believing something that turns out not to be true. Makes complete sense for that to be established in the show.
