Kael'thas is one of the most tragic characters in Warcraft lore. Him and Arthas... and Sylvanas... and Illidan... and Jaina... and you know what? Forget it... Warcraft is a tragedy; everybody dies. Shakespeare at it's finest.
Kael'thas: "MONSTER! You killed my..." Arthas: "Yes, yes, I killed your father. What is it with you elves anyway? I killed my father too and you don't hear me whining about it!"
Thank you. We all know Arthas' story is like Darth Vader's, but he is also like M. Bison in the sense that he killed his own parents and destroyed his good side, turning into a psychopath with no regrets.
I completely agree! A lot of characters have been twisted into becoming villains just to turn them into bosses... I'm honestly kind of disappointed from what's been happening to the lore after WC III
Disagree entirely so. While SOME things can be seen as "disappointed" in a couple cases, I would easily say the Lore has VASTLY improved and MASSIVELY expanded AFTER warcraft 3 entirely so for the better with a few bad spots here and there as the expansions DO improve on ALOT of things like WotLk, Mists of Panderia, Warlords of Draenor, Legion, and even some of Battle for Azeorth HAS improved on the lore MUCH better than what was happening after "WC III" entirely so. It's just been kind of hard managing it all with a MASSIVELY expansive MMO world that's there by combining lore with gameplay for players to play through completely so!
@@Gadget-Walkmen not realy... WotLK: do you remember those lore charackters that had a very big connection to Arthas? Yeah lets place them at the entrance of the Final raid and do jackshit while some suddenly cool paladin dude kills the Lich King after chilling half the fight as a popsicle. MoP: lets take that one easter egg from wc3 and make an xpac out of it while making Garosh an irredemable asshole because the only established big bad left is Warcraft Satan and some old gods WoD: what if outland still had Orcs and Dreanei? Also we must revieve some villians we are running low on them. Legion:actual good ideas but now we killed the og big bad.. also remember that cool paladin that killstealed the Lich King? Yeah he died and took a lava bath. WoW had its cool moments for sure but honestly most stuff was "remember this from the rts? It now drops loot"
@@Blutwind Yes really I’d say completely. Yes while some characters were inevitably got turned into gaming villains characters for gaming reasons. They did the best they could for those villain characters to be the end game villains to face off against. If you mean Arthas’s body guards, yeah they got wiped out easily by Tirion but they didn’t have THAT big of a lore connection as you say they do as what ELSE could you have expected them to have done? For them to get taken out out by Tirion or the characters makes sense at the final raid at ice crown. They’re not THAT hugely important, they’re mainly arthas’s minions and that’s about it. Making a whole expansion out of those panda Easter eggs overall was greatly done as most people didn’t have a problem with it after seeing how great the expansion really was. Most people love Mists of Panderia now and how the pandarens now. No at all any issue with that. Garrosh being an irredeemable asshole makes sense, there was absolutely no way that guy and his pride would ever do the horde justice in the long run. And there was nothing wrong with making him the final villain in MoP either. The final remaining big bad villains like Sargeras and the Old Gods were obviously going to be faced off, Sargeras was ended off pretty well, but the Old Gods could have been done much better as N’zoth could have had an entire expansion for himself as well as Queen Azhsara, really wished they did that for them. As for “WoD”, Outland already had Orcs and Draenei for the longest and we were just going there because of Garrosh’s time manipulation plot for power and we had to stop him. There’s nothing wrong with brining back old villains as long as it’s done well and ALOT of people were hyped for that entirely so for Warlods of Draenor for the Warlords to be the new villains to face off against. The time travel stuff was HYPE and full of potential as a lot of people loved the Warlords of Draenor expansion potential and build-up towards it all but everyone knows how WoF ended up and it didn’t meet it’s fullest potential and ended up being disappointing for a lot of people playing the game. As for legion, Legion was great expansion as a whole and did illdian’s character justice and they didn’t “kill off” the big bad, they just sealed off and away and how he was handled story wise for the titans to seal him away forever and Illdian to be his watcher makes perfect sense for his character and a great wrap up for his arc, I’d say as most people agree as well because no one realistically believed that they were gonna fight and kill of Sargeras at all, that’s just nonsense to even think of to do ingame so how it was handled in Legion overall was overall very well done in a satisfying way. Tirion making the one in lore to kill off the lich king makes sense entirely, no idea on why you want to make it seem like he “killstealed” anything at all as he WAS there for the final raid along side the players. Yeah Tirion should have gotten a VASTLY better death and end entirely so, I completely agree with that within a cutscene or anything because he was too important in order for him to be taken out that easily. I’m not saying everything in WoW is perfect, because it’s OBVIOUSLY not, but they did pretty well off for gaming reasons as best they could within a MASSIVELY expanding world like Warcraft online! Yeah obviously it’s easier to tell a story within a RTS game like Warcraft 3 instead of a MASSIVELY expansive world full of player characters that you NEED to find characters to fight against but I’d say as a whole the devs did the best they could. Obviously they could have done better for a couple characters but not ALL of it was simply done just to “drop loot” at all as it was well lore-wise. That’s what I’d say.
kael'thas is my favorite character in the warcraft universe. still upset that they kind of butchered his character. they could have done something really cool with him. some how hope they bring him back as his former self.
Do you too understand the deep seated pain i feel when remember how much i miss Kael'thas in Silvermoon? The true heir. I will never forgive Blizzard what they did to his story line. He easily could have betrayed Illidan for the Horde or better, the Alliance (story wise; also i feel that Blood Elves are displaced in the Horde but whatever) I want vengeance for him! He will be revenged. I would forgive Blizzard if Magister's Terrace was merely a setback and he would be good again. I know your comments are old but for the last few days my painful love for the prince is especially impassionated, so i ask for understanding ;P
@@glanni Elsa, the blood elves would have been even more displaced in the Alliance after the events of TFT. The blood elves both thematically and canonically fit better with the horde. But yes, they have to bring him back.
About blood elves, and green eyes..never understood it completely. When I started my BElf and knew absolutely nothing about lore, all quests were about ARCANE magic consuption and overdose. Wretched became such exactly because of overuse of arcane. I never ever heard the word "fel" during my questing in Quel'thalas once. Then I researched and learnt more. Glowing green eyes and all, and everyone on the forums were talking about FEL we consume evn in Silvermoon. They constantly refer to those green crystals, which according to the very first blood elf quest were therу even BEFORE the Scourge. I as a newbie was just like a real BElf survived in the war who didnt know about Kael or anything that happened, and I litterally did not hear or read anything about fel magic until I reached Outland. When I went there I was hyped like all the pilgrims, ready to find and aid my prince only to be forced to kill dozens of my own brothers and sisters and finally Kael himself. wtf
Arcane magic eh. That would explain why high elves have blue eyes. Arcane magic tends to be bluish color. Sometimes it veers into purple. The eyes have thier eyes change from blue to green. This shows them switching over to the fel.
Imagine how much of warcraft lore would have been different if Jaina and Kael'thas had a mutual interest in each other. Something tells me Kael'thas would have been treated with more respect, especially by the kul'tiras, and with the support of Jaina and Antonidas likely never even imprisoned in Dalaran or worse. This is all speculation of course, but I just feel like Jaina would still be level headed and Kael'thas wouldn't have fallen to the corruption.
I agree but with kaelthas he already was a "villain" in the end of TFT. But I do agree it went a little far. He turned into a weird corrupted magic junkie elf, that was dumb but I guess it makes sense cause kiljaeden influenced him and belfs are already known magic addicts
+DakuHonoo that's why I put it in quotes. It's subjective, he's a grey character. I'm simply saying he did not suddenly become a bad guy in WoW. There was a series of events leading up to that
+Kael'thas Sunstrider do you not see the quotes. I'm just saying his allegiance didn't suddenly change in wow. God people get so butthurt over there fuckin "MUH KAELTHAS SUNSTRIDER"
You know, guys...Burning Legion would be a perfect time to bring him back. KJ enjoys giving his follower's additional chances and by technicality, Kael'thas DID succeed and bring him into the world...only to be flushed back, but still. In addition, I do not really think Kael'thas betrayal in BC was a product of bad story telling. I mean, his name IS Kil'jaden the Deceiver; I imagine that KJ showed Kael'thas the exact same vision that Sargeras showed him, Archimonde and Velen: whether it be many applauding fans or many slaves basking at his feet, Kael'thas most likely saw a vision of him leading his people to glory and power, demonic or not still their birthright. After the Alliance betrays you, after Illidan betrays you and you are cut off from your home and people, what are you to do? To add on to that, keep in mind that KJ was coming for his revenge, to slaughter Illidan and anyone under him for his failure. To protect his people in Outland, he was only making what he deemed "the logic conclusion" by "switching pay masters accordingly". In any case, I believe Kael'thas just went down Arthas' past, hearing the dark whispers and heeding them. However, much like Arthas, he had good intentions and even after his resurrection I feel he had good intentions, until his final death where he cursed the world to burn for betraying him and his people. Even though not announced, I hope Kael'thas pops up again in Burning Legion, only this time we break him from his shackles of service to the Legion and he helps us and in the end he is re-instilled as King of Silvermoon as the new faction leader (no disrespect to Loth'emar, though).
+Alfred Ashford I would love to see that mate :/ Kael is my favorite character in whole Warcraft and It would have been amazing to see him come back as a King ...
I like your take on Kael's story. I also think he wasn't turned into a villain for the sake of a raid boss. More along the lines that he was betrayed by everyone, angry at everyone and Kil'jaeden turned his feelings against him. He was looking for a way to restore the Blood Elves' power. Though his means were questionable and cause divide among the blood elves. Too bad he never came back. Although I couldn't see it happening with him dying twice.
I have WOW to thank for pushing me towards learning english by myself. My mom used to bring me SNES cartridges when she went on her trips when I was very young, usually games like Mario Kart that didn't require much thinking or understand english to play. (Games didn't have portuguese translations back then, some would have a crappy spanish translation but very rarely). When I got my first PC at 10 years old she bought me Warcraft I and I had no idea what the game was about so I used to play it with a dictionary by my side, reading every - single - word out loud and their meaning so I could keep up with the story. And when I finished the first one I asked for the second one (I'd read on a gaming magazine there was a second one already) and did the same thing with WOW II. By the time WOW III was released I already had a vocabulary and basic comprehension that allowed me to just play it and understand it (kinda) without the dictionary.
As much as I like Kael'thas' lore and other characters backstories. When it comes to the end content of Kael this is typical Blizzard storywriting. To them it's all about the epicness and cool bosses that will all cause major destruction of the world while you are the only hero that can stop these events. They'll just bend the story to make it believable regardless if that character was actually good at heart or had other complicated issues to deal with.
Blizzard messed his Lore up so badly... he was never a Bad Charakter even when serving illidan he was still loyal to Silvermoon...he searched a way to handle the Mana Addiction from the Bloodelves but he never were Illoyal towards the remaining Bloodelves in Silvermoon. He even send Grand Magister Rommath to deliver the Message that there is Hope. when i created a Blood Elf why could i raid Tempest Keep? While the Heroes Killed Kael, Velen or one of their Naarus cleansed the Sunwell... when it is that easy why nobody does it in the first place? they shouldve called Kael back that his Mission is complete but no they needed to kill him then came up with some twisted lore shit that revived him on magisters terrace with demonic influence...and then this change that he only used Illidan for his own purpose.. i want to beat up that scum who wrote that piece of lore shit.
+CILinkzSpre3 Question is... why the fuck they didnt recreated Sunwell with stolen Naaru ? the Answer is easy "Raid". I think that the "real" Kael would have created new Sunwell and become the King of Silvermoon... THE END
Actually, if those racist pricks called night elves didn't send spies to sabotauge the stones that protect what was left of the blood elves so they could be wiped out by the scourge - and that was even before they joined the horde. The forsaken then helped them and one thing led to another and alliance has been racist to them yet again and they ended up with the Horde. Same with Nightborne now. Honestly fuck that thottie Tyrande.
Think about it had he not done this sylva is might have returned lorderan on Kaels instruction and they would be went at Martha's together.there would've been a better chance with the undead that had a free mind.they could've actually killed nerzhul forcing Sylvanus to become the new pics queen making forsaken stay in outland Karl would've been alive and an alliance member.
His lore could have been better, a good ol' honorable death would be nicer. But I guess this goes with the theme of his life. Universe takes everything from him, puts him in shitty positions, give him impossible choices, etc. Thank you Lor'themar for the kind words.
Made a new belf character, realized I didn't know much of the story behind the Dead Scar and the Ghostlands, found this billion-years-old video that explains it perfectly! Thank you very much
To be fair, the initial assignment given by Garithos could have been an act of mercy. He surely knew how devastated the Elves were, and wanted to spare them of extra bloodshed by allowing them to use their knowledge of magic and engineering to set up defences instead of fighting on the front lines. That said, he proved himself to be nothing but a PoS later when he imprisoned and tried to kill the elves for not really any reason.
God the ending to kael's story makes me depressed. I just think of what could have been...I will always hold him in my heart as a hero driven by vengeance and necessity. However, since they redeemed Illidan maybe there is still some small glimmer of hope.
Not quite, no. Most people know the Blood-Elves are the 10% of the former High-Elves that survived. But 5-10 % of the group that finally became Blood-Elves stayed Highborn. So genetically, they're the same, but the very few remaining High Elves never went into mana-addiction or Naaru-torturing for fun. So High Elves could be a viable option, even if there was an insane unlocking process.
I’ve really been enjoying these lore videos. I came home from work today and was gonna play video games or watch tv but then was like, “no, u know what, I wanna finish that lore video I started yesterday!”
This video is just what I needed to have my passion about WoW reignited! Currently grinding hard on a TBC server and fresh in all these events, I relate to it all so well that it makes me want to go back and play those heroics again with the renewed feeling of lore nostalgia :3 Thank you very much for your effort! :3
The High Elves were renamed Blood Elves after the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas. 90% of their people were slaughtered and after this Kael’thas renamed them Blood Elves in honor of all their brethren which were slaughtered during that invasion.
what blows my mind is how a 20 year old human warrior / paladin trained by a dwarf could outskill a 1o ooo year old night elf in sword to sword combat...............
I think twisting Kael'Thas' character was harsh and desperate on Blizzard's part. ANY boss could've been added in TBC for a raid. I think Kael'Thas was the most holy of holy and he had a pure heart. I think it was foolish and unrealistic to corrupt his character. Kael'Thas was smart enough to see Illidan was going crazy. So clearly he also would've been smart enough to tell that Kil'jaeden was evil.
I've recently rewatched all the Warcraft 3 cutscenes as I do about every two years, and every time I do I just get sad. Kael was such an amazing character in that game, and in TBC his character development was wasted, and then they just killed him off. Twice. Because one humiliation couldn't be enough. I would love to see how his story would have played out. I think the writers of TFT did a good job to set his character up for an interesting arc. If the same writers would have also written in TBC the story would probably look a whole lot different.
I love wow but i hate the way they retconned Kael'thas. (First and most fickle, but the book says he is perfect in his beauty, why did they make him a huge hulking ugly fabio in the warcraft 3 remake???? He should be slender and beautiful, it's Canon!) Anyway, here's my damn beef, Kael'thas was all into the Kirin Tor and his own father was on his butt about him paying more attention to his role as prince. He was a nerdy book elf who was studying in Dalaran when crap went down, came home to find 90% of his people genocided and ships of belf children drowned, and his father dead. He tries to step into his role of lord and strike back with his remaining warriors, and the racist Garithos who only valued human life tries to send him off to get killed and overwhelmed, so he accepts Nagas help and Garithos uses that as an excuse to imprison him and let him rot. Naga helps him break out and they go to outland because at this point what few are left of his people, who were addicted to mana, are now dying from magic withdrawal because the sun well is gone, so he's desparate to find a cure for his people. Then..... cue the next expansion, he is suddenly a mustachioed villain who enslaves his own..... WTF? You can see this when you look at the felo'melorn book too, it's first few pages are all in honor of how Kael'thas fought Arthas as the lich king over and over, but all we ever see is Sylvanas, then there is a clear break in the pages and suddenly Kael is a terrible villain. Then, they retconned him AGAIN in shadowlands to being a petulant brat who needs to be spanked in the afterlife. The only way i can live through the day, is to embrace my own head Canon that he actually made a doppleganger of himself to leave behind in wow and instead the real Kael'thas peaced out of this realm and went to DOTA as the Invoker Carl. I can't get over how sylvannas and tyrande genocide is just forgiven but when it comes to Kael'thas being retconned he has to be punished for eternity???? Yeah screw that, he's in DOTA as the Invoker.
Hahahah omg I thought he said "he asked them all to remove their *clothes*" And when he said Kael'Thas chuckled and removed his cloak I just thought, okay, this is getting really interesting...
The naga were enslaving Zangarmarsh, and Illidan's forces were using Fel Blood orcs to attack alliance and troll bases, and Kaelthas had attacked the Kirin Var in Netherstorm for no apparent reason. And let's not forget Illidan's line "I should have slaughtered you and your malformed brethren long ago" to Akama. So he was willing to commit genocide.
+Nobbel87 Will you ever do a lore piece that covers the Loa or specifically the Loa that Vol'jin has attached to him? Since that Loa basically makes him functionally immortal and gives him a crap ton of powers.
I hadn't known exactly how the blood elves and the night elves were related, but I could tell from their body structure and the nature of evolution that they had to be. Thanks for all the lore digging.
Great video. Im new to wow and wow lore and he has been one of my main encounter in wow since both of his dungeons drop mounts I want so ive seen him more then most others. Its cool to see he has such a deep lore in the wow universe. Keep up the great videos!
In the past I never played enough WoW to get to the real story, but as a kid I absolutely loved wc3. Kael and Illidan were two of my favourite characters. I recently picked up WoW again and honestly I am incredibly disappointed, I don't like what they've done to either of those characters. Neither of them we're crazy or evil, sure Kael was a little agro, and Illidan was always a bit morally grey. But in WoW they both kind of seem a bit down right evil.
Such a good video Nobbel! Can't wait to see what Kael`Thas has in stall for us in the Shadowlands. Hopefully, he is redeemed, I do believe his intentions were good, but Blizz trashed him :P
Does anyone else realize how stupid malfurion is. Y illidan, it's your soul, all because he has goat hoofs horns and rams antlers... look in the mirror a bit. Botched about northrend going to be sunk. Think about the cost illidan. Completely ignores that he caused thousands upon thousands of deaths by stopping this destruction of a barren land full of nothing but undead and monsters. Also completely ignored his own cost of blowing up the entire world tree for a boss that came back 2 times after that for all the cost of the elves immortality and the destruction of the entire reigon. I mean seriously I think the only reason he gives his brother so much shit is he can't stand a little competition over tyrande. I mean really what has holiday done before bc that was so bad besides playing both sides like a double agent in any organization. Think of all the lives that could have been saved if it wernt for his incompetence. But malfurion has to think he's the hero. Chicken wings antlers and all but what of the cost.
The Nightelves exiled the highborn who fought WITH them The Nightelves turned against Illidan who was trying to SAVE them Conclusion: The Nightelves are kinda assholes.
I remember playing WC3 with my stepdad, when he bought the game for us at home i played through the campaign and thought the undead were the best... Then he bought the expansion, Kael'thas' campaign was such an unusual representation of elves in fantasy that he became a symbol for my favorite type of elf, evil and renegade elves. Kael'thas is sharing the number one spot with Arthas for my favourite Warcraft characters.
i really like kaelthas im sad hes bad, i would like for him to make a return and with the sunwell returned hed realize his mistakes and try to make it right
The SunWell was brought back by Prophet Velen, using the energies of the Naaru Mu'ruu. Lady Liadrin was the first to drink from it after it was restored. You can see this if you go do the " SunWell Plateau ". As for Kael, I fear he is doomed to a life of villainy. It is hard to see him redeemed, and he is dead ingame. I loved him though, but his descent into madness while trying to find a salvation for his people changed him.
I've been playing all of your videos to educate myself while I construct a WoW themed bedroom for my husband as a surprise- I love all of the information you give out- it's handy, easy to understand, helps me understand what's going on and what has been going on as I just start playing the series myself, and even our 6 year old sits in to listen and watch as he's already showing interest in gaming like his dad. One thing is bugging me though... where there heck is your accent from!? D8
At 12:47 you said he fought him with Felo'melorn, yet in the animation you used the Twinblade of the Phoenix, I assume it's because Felo'melorn doesnt look really like a fighting sword so much, and because the TBotP drops from Kael, but I'm interested
I was looking for a png of Felo'melorn, but the item itself wasn't added to the game until it became an artifact in legion. Took the closest thing I could find that looked like an elven blade
Could you do the story of Chen Stormstout next? A lot of people stopped playing WoW because of Pandaria, thinking it came out of nowhere. But I learned that Chen was in Warcraft, and I'd like to know his full story.
Wow. Awesome. I love the blood elves. They are freaking awesome. They are second only to night elves for my favorite WOW race. It is a close second at that. This really gets into the history of the blood elve. I especially like the part where it shows the beginning of the game for a blood elf. There is an arial view of Eversong Woods with a voice over giving a history summary. Wow. That just gets me in the feels, and I am filled with nostalgia. I actually started playing WOW during BC. Blood elves is one of the first races I played. It is the first Horde race for me. I have just as much nostalgia for Eversong Woods and Azuremist Isle as I do for the vanilla starting zones. There is an interesting part of history that the Sunwell blew up to take down invading forces, and the blood elves had to pay a huge price. I like to play male blood elves because they are so hot. I get used to thier emotes. One flirt emote said "Your eyes shine like the Sunwell before the explosion that doomed us all of course." This flirt refers to this event. One major part of the blood elves is the addiction to magic. There are two amusing silly emotes for this. One is where the male blood elf talks about having the patch for arcane magic. Another is where he tries to recite the Serenity Prayer. Then he gets frustrated. He said that someone should give him some magic before he kills somebody. I did learn something interesting about the blood elves in this video. They are associated with phoenixes. It makes sense once the video explains it. I wonder if that is why blood elves have large flightless birds as their mounts. This video is specifically about Kaelthas Sunstrider. It is interesting to see what his life is like. He is basically the blood elf that teamed up with Illiden during BC. I like playing male blood elves, because they are hot. It is nifty to have one as a prominant character in the lore. I knew how the drenai were related to the BC from the beginning. They lived in Outland for a while. Then they escaped on the Exodar from the Burning Crusade. They crashed in Azurmist Isle in Azeroth. The blood elves are a bit tricky to link, even if the came in the same expansion. The lore in the starting zones, Eversong Woods and Ghostlands, talk about how the blood elves fought against the Scourge. It is very similar to the lore of the Forsaken zones nearby. This would fit in vanilla really easily. Now in recent times, I learned of the connection. There was a group of blood elves going into outland to seek magic from demons. It was a way to sate thier thirst of magic. So blood elves do fit in BC. Quelthas was the blood elf that lead this group. I think of him as a blood elf version of Illiden. I guess it fits that he was a major servent of Illiden in BC. Quelthas got upset because he lost in a love triangle. He struggled to fight against the evil forces. Then he eventually joined the Burning Legion. When I watch this video, I see how desperate Quelthas was. That would make for a very interesting character. Love triangles with elf guys can get odd. Jackson added one to his film adaptation of the Hobbit. I was oh so baffled by this. Why on Middle Earth would Tauriel be lovey dovey with Kili when Legolas is right the heck there. It makes no freaking sense. Legolas is really hot. He is hotter than any dwarf. That is for darn sure. My love of elves applies to fantasy in gereral, not just WOW. WOW has a similar situation. Jaina goes for Arthas when Quelthas is right there. This is a bit easier to justify. Both guys were hot at the time. Jaina is a human, like Arthas. Maybe it would have worked if Arthas hadn't become the Lich King. The Stratholm incident would be enough to push him over moral event horizon. Iguess the love triangle that makes the most sense is the one with Night Elves. Tyrande had to pick between two super hot night elf brothers. This could really go either way. Tyrande picked Malfurian, and this is due to Malfurian's great druid ability. It works well enough. Looking back I do get more attatched to Illiden. Maybe he wouldn't have turned to evil if he got love an cuddles. If Tyrande won't take Illidin, I would. He used to be real hot. Unfortunatly he got creepy later on as he looked like a demon. I feel the same way about Kaelthas. If Jaina won't have him, I will. Maybe love and cuddles would help him stay away from evil. He is even hot thoughout almost all the video. He only gets creepy at the last minute in Keldanas. Arthas was mean to Kaelthas. Garithos was even worse, the racist prick. It ticks me off as an elf lover. I see how the blood elves turned to the Horde and the Burning Legion. They were nicer to them. There is a great part when Quelthas fights Arthas with swords. Arthas speaks biting words and bullies Kaelthas. Then Kealthas has a great comeback. He said that Jaina hated Arthas too. Ha! Take that, Arthas.
let me get this right, the bloodelves turned against alliance because alliance spies attempted to sabotage arcane sanctums ,so after talking with sylvanas they joined the horde. But at the end of kael'thas' story after sending kil'jaiden back to where he came from Velen repowered the sunwell with the help of Muru ,so that blood elves can have their source of magic and light for the ways of being paladin. After this help of Velen why do they still stay on the side of the Horde?? also they have been in war against trolls aswell which also a part of the horde.
Kael'thas is one of the most tragic characters in Warcraft lore. Him and Arthas... and Sylvanas... and Illidan... and Jaina... and you know what? Forget it... Warcraft is a tragedy; everybody dies. Shakespeare at it's finest.
Thescott16 greek tragedy?
Thescott16 any their killing them all off slowly, i think it had a way better story telling aspect than the mmo.

They sacrificed everything for their people but got told to fuck off in return

Arthas: "Yes, yes, I killed your father. What is it with you elves anyway? I killed my father too and you don't hear me whining about it!"
Nice Street fighter refference
Thank you. We all know Arthas' story is like Darth Vader's, but he is also like M. Bison in the sense that he killed his own parents and destroyed his good side, turning into a psychopath with no regrets.
Well.... he had regrets but he killed them too.

But for me, it was Tuesday. "
nicely placed street fighter Line. i tip my bonet to you

Man Kael'thas character and voice actor was so much more badass in Warcraft 3 than WoW.
Gakgaming Strange, now that I think about it. I don't remember any traces of Illidan's invasion of Northrend from WoW.
It's the same guy, Quinton Flynn
LOL It's the SAME voice-actor, you're not making any sense by saying this.

Just as Grom and Garrosh are forever heroes in my mind :D
If only Kil'Jaedan had not focused so hard on turning Kael'thas into his pawn. Perhaps then he could have found new hope and remained our ally.
MoP: lets take that one easter egg from wc3 and make an xpac out of it while making Garosh an irredemable asshole because the only established big bad left is Warcraft Satan and some old gods
WoD: what if outland still had Orcs and Dreanei?
+FawtBalugaWhale He's still alive in the Dreanor world, yeah? :P
+BushBumper Kael'thas came from Azeroth.
+FawtBalugaWhale dont worry, they giong to resurrect him... someday. they do it with illidan, so why not? #Resurrectionsunday
Do you too understand the deep seated pain i feel when remember how much i miss Kael'thas in Silvermoon? The true heir.
I will never forgive Blizzard what they did to his story line. He easily could have betrayed Illidan for the Horde or better, the Alliance (story wise; also i feel that Blood Elves are displaced in the Horde but whatever)
I want vengeance for him!
Arcane is the gateway drug
This was so awesome! Who needs netflix when you've got Nobbel87?!
This is all speculation of course, but I just feel like Jaina would still be level headed and Kael'thas wouldn't have fallen to the corruption.
i really wish they didn't make him a villain just to have a cool boss
+Kael'thas Sunstrider yes i agree they completely spoiled the story of warcraft
I agree but with kaelthas he already was a "villain" in the end of TFT. But I do agree it went a little far. He turned into a weird corrupted magic junkie elf, that was dumb but I guess it makes sense cause kiljaeden influenced him and belfs are already known magic addicts
iller mills he was NOT, neither was illidan,
+DakuHonoo that's why I put it in quotes.
Alfred Ashford QQ
I like your take on Kael's story. I also think he wasn't turned into a villain for the sake of a raid boss. More along the lines that he was betrayed by everyone, angry at everyone and Kil'jaeden turned his feelings against him. He was looking for a way to restore the Blood Elves' power. Though his means were questionable and cause divide among the blood elves.
Too bad he never came back. Although I couldn't see it happening with him dying twice.
Welp, you got your wish for kael to come back, just not how you wanted it.
Damn that's incredible.
That is awesome! Gamification is an excellent method for learning other languages. American schools should take note 😊

I did not realize that this video was more than an hour long until I finished watching it. I enjoyed your storytelling Nobbel. Thank you.
"i feel edgy" - Prince keal'thas
What a sad and lovely story. Didn't realize him and Jaina were that close.
THE END
I feel like Garithos is the sole reason behind the Belfs siding with the Horde instead of the Alliance. haha
Andrew Dunlap thats a major contributor you gotta remember the horde helped the blood elves more than the alliance ever did
@Mihail Golubovic so your just gonna forget about the prince of the grand alliance?
Actually, if those racist pricks called night elves didn't send spies to sabotauge the stones that protect what was left of the blood elves so they could be wiped out by the scourge - and that was even before they joined the horde.
The forsaken then helped them and one thing led to another and alliance has been racist to them yet again and they ended up with the Horde. Same with Nightborne now. Honestly fuck that thottie Tyrande.
Think about it had he not done this sylva is might have returned lorderan on Kaels instruction and they would be went at Martha's together.there would've been a better chance with the undead that had a free mind.they could've actually killed nerzhul forcing Sylvanus to become the new pics queen making forsaken stay in outland Karl would've been alive and an alliance member.
badri nath wtf are you saying
i wonder how different the story would be if Jaina picked KT instead of arthas
Woa there buddy! Almost thought you were talking about Kel'thuzad.
Yeah, she would totaly 1000 years old guy that was also her teacher instead of young handsome prince.
Lrdstrkil19 jaina would be dead too
Bleflar kael during his time in Dalaran was basically a teen in elven terms and was like 4-6 hundred years old so not really that old.
Eww. Jaina and Arthas deserved each other.
Thank you for pouring your time and energy into the creation of this. Loved it...Kael'thas has always been one of my favorite characters.
His lore could have been better, a good ol' honorable death would be nicer. But I guess this goes with the theme of his life. Universe takes everything from him, puts him in shitty positions, give him impossible choices, etc. Thank you Lor'themar for the kind words.
Everytime i go to bed i listen to one of his warcraft lore stories...
I fall asleep instant... so calming
If only the accent didnt throw me off so much :*(
Made a new belf character, realized I didn't know much of the story behind the Dead Scar and the Ghostlands, found this billion-years-old video that explains it perfectly!
Lortheramar seems like the last decent leader of both the Horde and Alliance. If he wasn't a BE he would probably have a much larger role in the game.

God the ending to kael's story makes me depressed. I just think of what could have been...I will always hold him in my heart as a hero driven by vengeance and necessity. However, since they redeemed Illidan maybe there is still some small glimmer of hope.
We coped redemption into existence 😭😀
i reeally feel bad for him he had good intentions :( and now even his race hate him
Kael'thas Sunstrider *disagree
Kael'thas Sunstrider sounds like North Korea to me
Kael'thas Sunstrider okay...let me summarize, kael is a human who fell in love with prince Arthas before Jaina turned into lich king....right?
Kael'thas Sunstrider noooo...;)
alright im done, let's both move on with our lives
So when people are begging and crying about no high elf race. They are basically ignorant to the fact that blood elves are the remaining high elves?
Not quite, no. Most people know the Blood-Elves are the 10% of the former High-Elves that survived. But 5-10 % of the group that finally became Blood-Elves stayed Highborn. So genetically, they're the same, but the very few remaining High Elves never went into mana-addiction or Naaru-torturing for fun. So High Elves could be a viable option, even if there was an insane unlocking process.
Happily, I don't give a toss, because I'm Horde and happily waiting for TBC in Classic. :D

I’ve really been enjoying these lore videos. I came home from work today and was gonna play video games or watch tv but then was like, “no, u know what, I wanna finish that lore video I started yesterday!”
I wish there was a way to get Kael'thas back as the leader of the blood elves
This video is just what I needed to have my passion about WoW reignited! Currently grinding hard on a TBC server and fresh in all these events, I relate to it all so well that it makes me want to go back and play those heroics again with the renewed feeling of lore nostalgia :3 Thank you very much for your effort! :3
Liked the idea that Kael'Thas wasn't the bad guy.
ARGH, you lore king
You sir, are a Monster! Fantastic! So much work and effort given to the community. I salute you with great respect.
Holy god, this was an epic summary. Thank you 🙏
The more I think about it less I see Kael'thas as a villain.
The High Elves were renamed Blood Elves after the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas. 90% of their people were slaughtered and after this Kael’thas renamed them Blood Elves in honor of all their brethren which were slaughtered during that invasion.
That's indeed what he says in the video... what is your point?
It's stupid what blizzard did to him in WoW, he shouldn't had turn crazy & should had been the blood elf leader
feel bad for illidan and Karl the true bad guys are our heroes jahah

Just finished watching the whole video. Great story, thanks Nobbel!
Blizzards worst character assassination to date. Absolutely tragic what they did to Kael.
I do love the lore. So glad to see that someone know so much of the lore.
what blows my mind is how a 20 year old human warrior / paladin trained by a dwarf could outskill a 1o ooo year old night elf in sword to sword combat...............
Arthas is blizzards version of superman. That's y. Write him a new power he wins blah blah blah. It's more than a bit logically stupid.
Cody Waldrop took the words right out of my mouth bro.
Firstly, Arthas was 25 atm, he was in close proximity to the Frozen Throne. The Lich King even provided him with full power he could cluster.
bolog illidian was also locked up for 10k years I like to think he was out of practice
short version : he dun goofed
Ashes of Al´ar dropped at 59:20 , nice
Thanks for telling the story I really enjoyed it!
Hahahah omg I thought he said "he asked them all to remove their *clothes*"
And when he said Kael'Thas chuckled and removed his cloak I just thought, okay, this is getting really interesting...

Kael was not a bad guy. illidan was not a bad guy. Vashj was not a bad guy. In The Burning Crusade, WE were the bad guys.
mekkiepoo Kael left Illidan to serve Kil'jaeden, so he was a bad guy
Technically if illidan told his plan to Karl he wouldn't have left. Karl felt like he was shunned
They weren't bad guys, the writing just forced stuff upon them with no regard for their actual characterisation.
that cinematic with the high elves fighting the undead what is that from and where can I see the whole thing?

The writers in WoW aren't good with nuance.
You do an amazing job with these videos. Even when I fully know the life, I'd rather hear it from you

If you know Chuck McGill from Better Call Saul, they're both giving me similar vibes.
The Nightelves exiled the highborn who fought WITH them
The Nightelves turned against Illidan who was trying to SAVE them
Conclusion: The Nightelves are kinda assholes.

Perfect story telling! Gotta read that short story!
Dude, you are amazing@ Thank you for doing this.
i really like kaelthas
im sad hes bad,
i would like for him to make a return and with the sunwell returned hed realize his mistakes and try to make it right
The SunWell was brought back by Prophet Velen, using the energies of the Naaru Mu'ruu.
It seems Kael is the Arthas equivalent for blood elves.

But I learned that Chen was in Warcraft, and I'd like to know his full story.
wish they could done more with Kael'thas story :/
Thank you for the 3 part into 1 enjoyed it
And now you will have to do another part of this history :)
His story is almost like Revan's from Star War: Knights of the Old Republic, but without the redemption part.
Nah, Illidan is the Revan of WoW.
Damn interesting, glad I stumbled upon this! It's nice to finally know where the guy I farm weekly for a phoenix comes from XD
12:16 Where is this from?
I am thrilled to hear his story has another chapter in Shadow Lands.
Wow.
Amani Trolls aren't part of the Horde. Just like Zandalari weren't back in Pandaria which was why they were "evil"
