    One thing I like about your video you are not speaking to fast and you speak clearly.
    And you don't play music and no grate production intro you just get on with it.
    For me that's good.
    Well done for helping me.

    I sure coulda used this video 6 months ago :) Well done, though. I definitely learned some new things. I think I'll stick to my naze32 boards for now, but if I'm ever building something different, I'll refer to this video to consider my options...well, as long as we can still can LiPo's here in the states at a reasonable price. I have a feeling we're about to get screwed even further in this hobby over here

    I haven't tried them all but having tried CC3D, PowerCube, Flip32(naze)
    1. The CC3D never gave me the same ESC calibration twice and was unable to load cleanflight on it so never got it off the ground.
    2. Powercube was a really clean build. love the format. Doesn't have a barometer and can't use MINIMOSD and the PowerCore for onscreen is totally lame. Flight modes are very aggressive. Good board but I want ALTHold
    3. Flip32, easy setup, worked flawlessly and OSD was easy, ALTHOLD is great, on Angle mode it is PERFECT for a beginning pilot. So this is the one I fly now.
    Having seen the capability of APM, I ordered one. Can't wait!

      +goofyfoot2001 Thanks for the comment, if I may make a few comments too - 1) If you want CF, I'd always use a Naze32 or clone, or even better a STMF3 based FC. 2) PowerCube is all about the racing so not a surprise. Things like the KISS don't either. There are better choices if you want those modes. 3) Glad you've found one that worked for you (see point one ;). Happy flying!

    Thanks for all your videos - very helpful when I started with the original Pixhawk!!! This comparison was expensive: growing demand for a new FC :-) (Pixracer)

    The NAZE32 is heavily underrated! With the NAZE32 Rev.6 7DOF board, which costs $18, you have a barometer on board. As with Rev.6 SCL and SDA contacts have moved now from the board to pins, one can easily add a GPS and an external compass. And then your are absolutely ready for GPS flying and GPS modes.With the iNAV Firmware, which was mentioned in the video, one can do all GPS modes, like RTH (including Auto Landing), Altitude Hold, Position Hold and Waypoint Navigation using the EZGui ground Software and an Android tablet or cellular. Conclusion: With Rev.6 the NAZE32 became absolutely competitive with the APM or PIXHAWK FC concerning GPS modes. The only deficiency in the moment is that in waypoint navigation the waypoints are stored in the volatile memory of the NAZE32 and not in non volatile memory. But that will be changed soon with the iNAV Firmware.

    • @HLMAX
      @HLMAX 8 років тому

      +Juergen Stremmler , you should really give some of the GPS modes on the NAZE32 a try. Other than providing GPS information on OSD, it is unreliable for position hold or RTH. It could be that the electronics are pack too tightly together in a small quad, causing interference. Maybe an external compass would solve the problem. I would not trust the RTH to bring my quad back.

    • @mkolesnik
      @mkolesnik 8 років тому

      +Juergen Stremmler , were you actually able to connect external mag to SCL and SDA? I did connect the following combo:
      www.readytoflyquads.com/mini-ublox-m8n-gps-w-35x35mm-mounting-backplane-and-compass
      cleanflight shows that all looks good, compass seems to react to yaw (north is not quire there)
      Naze however will not ARM in this configuration and i suspect this maybe issue with all external mags connected to naze acro (my old setup had identical issue).
      In general i think the issue with Naze and GPS is all about getting the external compass working (i haven't seen anyone on-line reporting any success with it). Without a reliable compass GPS hold and RTH simply wont work (as painless360 demonstrated i one of his videos).
      Naze32 full comes with built in mag which due to its location on the board and all the electro-magnetic forces flying around is just an expensive waste of real estate :)
      cheers,
      -m.

    • @juergenstremmler2286
      @juergenstremmler2286 8 років тому

      +HLMAX I talked about Rev.6 of NAZE32 and 7DOF !!!! with only barometer on the board and iNAV 1.01 firmware!!! It allows safe waypoint navigation, safe RTH, safe PosHold. And of course, because 7DOF has no compass on board you'll need a comined external compass and UBLOX M8N GPS which you can buy for $19.90 at banggood. And last but not least Rev.6 of NAZE32 has SCL and SDA connections (you need for connecting an external compass) on pins !! So you don't have to solder anymore to connect the external magnetometer. And as the board itself does not have a magnetometer theier are no interference problems.

    • @juergenstremmler2286
      @juergenstremmler2286 8 років тому

      +mkolesnik 7DOF has no compass and no magnetometer on the board!!!! SDA and SCL are with Rev. 6 on pins. So the only thing you have to do is to install iNAV 1.01 firmware and connect the external compass to SDA and SCL pins of the NAZE Rev.6 DOF 7 board!

      +Juergen Stremmler hi juergen. I missed the part that we are talking about 7dof. I wasn't able to find any information about it. what is it if you don't mind? what's the difference between naze32 Rev 6 acro and naze32 Rev 6 7dof?

    Thank you for all your videos. They are all very informative. Splendid!!! I'm new in the Quad racing build and still learning about the Naze32 flight controller.
    From my understanding, there's a new Naze32 Rev.6, but this is where it confuses me. There is a Rev6A and a Rev6B....... 6A doesn't have the diode and 6B does have the diode. They say if you connect your ESCs to the Rev6A board (w/o diode), it might ruin your ESCs. Unlike Rev6B board (w/diode), it will not ruin the ESCs. What diode are they talking about? Please shed some light. Apologies for such a long question. Thank you kindly in advance. Really appreciate for your help.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 років тому

      +Charlie Bronson We've not used a Naze32 here since Rev5. For Cleanflight/Betaflight we use a more capable STM32F3 board now. Sorry we can't shed more light on it.. Best of luck.

    Great video. Thank you for the comparison. Are the boards with a F3 processor better than an F1? In general a newer processor for pc, tablets, etc gives a better experience because of the computational speed gains. But how does is compare to an RC model's FC?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 років тому +1

      +Rodrigo G. Generally speaking, the newer boards have more memory, faster processors, more I/O ports and better sensors. With some of the older boards developers are looking at what they can sacrifice to still fit in their smaller memories and capabilities. If you want all the latest toys in firmware and a board that isn't going to be running a LITE version of your favourite flight code then F3 is a safer bet. Hope that helps.

    Hi painless, I cannot find a genuine fc that doesnt cost me less than the shipping (Im from Spain), the thing is Banggood just started to sell the Sparky 2.0 and it is the original one, you know, it is a F4 board which is very tentative, but there is no much info and reviews about this fc. Have you heard about it? Or do you have any opinion?
    Thanks for the video btw.

    your videos are the best!
    according gps features..
    im using naze32(baseflight) rth with great success
    the miniquad allways returns above home point, but only in ideal weather
    with a mild breeze its not reliable,it looses orientation and drifts away
    i have a second naze32 rev5 on the way,and im thinking of cleanflight for this one
    are in cleanflight p.hold and rth features better?

    what flight controller could I use to program routines I have an Pixhawk and a APM, the APM its easy to program since its Arduino base, Pixhawk (I dont undertand the board) its easy to modify the data with the mission planner. Another question: Do you plan on explain how the pixhawk work in the program and what you can program in it, and HOW. Tanks for the videos.

    • @Painless360

    Thanks for the video. Do flight controllers come with voltage protection directly on the board? I want to switch motors and props and will also need to step up from a 4S to 6S LIPO and also don't want to fry the board. It's a BananaHobby RC RTF plane so i'm not sure of the exact FC used.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 років тому

      Some do, many don't. The flight controller runs of the 5v supply, it used to be that this was provided by the UBEC in the ESC but today lots of the ESCs don't have those inside so you need to use a separate UBEC. See our build series on the channel for more practical examples.. Best of luck!

    Nice video as usual, but you have totally neglected the Eagle Tree Vector, which in the fixed wing FPV world, easily rivals the Pixhawk. It's also pretty solid on Quads, although I wouldn't consider it for a racing environment. I would also like to see you do a series on the vector. Thanks.

    I building a quad for my wife. She wants to use it for air photography. What type of flight control board would you recommend. She wants the capability like the DJI. If i am not mistaking they use the wii board. Since I would be setting it up, I'am looking for user friendly boards. For example like the CC3D. Any suggestions?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 років тому

      +Eric Ankudavicius Depends if you want the ability to 'park' the model in the air using GPS. If not then the CC3D is a nice board, if you do then the PixRacer/Pixhawk is a better idea. Best of luck!

    I started with the CC3D Evo 6dof, and it was junk. Once you got it in the air and tune it flew nice. but I could never get it to take off without the front right arm hanging down and then getting yaw glitchy as it started to level off. (yes i re-leveled it a zillion times and re-calibrated the ESCs more times than i can remember it would always have a glitchy take off.) I've heard of other people having issues with the CC3D. Maybe I just bad one, but I am still going to say it's not worth the money from my experience.
    I switched to a SPRacing F3 10dof, and it is amazing. It takes off like it should. The stock PIDs almost fly better than the CC3D did after tuning. I'm just loving this board. Where as the CC3D was nothing but headaches.

    • @borgquads4669
      @borgquads4669 8 років тому

      (SPRacing F3) One other thing, if you use the BlackBox feature a lot, you might want to use an external SD card addon. The internal memory won't log many flights, and it's really slow to pull the data off the board. I think it took me about 10 minutes to pull off 8 megs of BlackBox data.

    That was great . I am flying NAZA M v2 but am looking to build another maybe bigger than the F550 . It is hard to guess what to get when all of the better boards cost so much . I also had a bad experience with DJI's warranty , but I won't go into that . And DJI help does not know their own products , just let me say F550 works 1000 times better on 4S than the recommended 3S power system . All that said I want to try something else maybe the Pixracer/hawk set up . I do FPV to see what I am filming not to race so I want a board that can handle a large platform and has great GPS stability . There is a new board I am hearing a lot about the JYJI 2P does anyone know anything about it ?

    it's weird that the 8bit FC (Multiwii) beats most of the newer 32bit FC when it comes to features(Acro, Stability and GPS). I got three Walkera Runner 250 (MultiWii, CC3D and F3). It's fun to have that GPS feature and find out your GPS speed, Attitude and Altitude. But for most flight the CC3D and the F3 has the more "locked in" feel. Probably due to the processing speed.

    • @jurkust
      @jurkust 8 років тому

      +Ouel Hi Ouel, i have runner 250 (standard with Multiwii) too, with big problem, in stable mode after fast/hard bank turn drone rolls to opposite side and drifts for about 2-4 seconds, then it levels. Maybe you had this problem too and know how to solve it without changing FC? :)

    • @OuelPacla
      @OuelPacla 8 років тому

      +Tomas Jurkus - that is inherent with the design of the quad. it happens to all three of the model except the CC3D and the SPF3 responds faster which eliminates that 2-3 seconds drift that you're experiencing. Try banking a little deeper when you turn. I find the effect to go away when i do.

    which FC should i choose if i'm a beginner to the whole rc world trying to make a vtol from scratch . I'm down tp kk2, pixhawk , ardupilot and apm. i need basically stable flight and fpv. If gps is there, great!!! also it'll help if it costs less.

      +itchy robot As we cover in the video - these are the ones that we have personal experience with.. ;)

    •  8 років тому

      OK, thanks.
      But you really never picked up a NAZA? or a Graupner? Seems odd. Why not?
      They are very popular, far easier to add things on, more stable, work on any size or configuration of platform, have as many or more features, and they are quicker to set up than any of the FC boards you chose.
      I can't understand why you wouldn't have tried or at least checked out the NAZA or Graupner.
      If you think the boards in your video are good, you should definitely try them. They fit in the sweet spot in your diagram too... gives you and your viewers more choices :)
      Thanks again for another great video!

    What goes into the making of a flight controller, especially the programming? I've wanted to do an arduino based drone for years, I eventually gave up on it a few years ago just because there was no information to be found unless you searched for literally hours.
    I want an arduino based drone for expandability, some reasons being experimental and I could just take it apart or modify it easily.
    I have no background in programming, and I'm a person that learns with my hands and by doing, so programming isn't really my thing. But is there any open sourced flight controller software that I could read and try to understand how they work?

    • @Painless360

      +Xander Zoolander the answer is not easily. The most accessible code is probably Multiwii, you can see every line. Best of luck!

I want to know that which autopilot is available in the market for both the operations or we can use any board for hovercraft? So, do I need to have seperate autopilots for both? If not, how I can integrate both the functions in an autopilot?

    It is possible, when my drone lose gps signal, that my drone saves all route that it flight and with this route come back?
    sorry, i cant speak perfect english.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 років тому

      +Samil gülbaran that would depend on the software that you're running on the flight controller. The flight controller would still need a valid GPS signal in order to navigate back home and figure out where it was though.

    I didn't know about Pixracer. Now as I am looking at it, I really like it and I will maybe put it in racer.
    Board that I like most is APM. It is easy to setup and it is stable. Despite that it still gives you place for experimenting, unlike naza. For racer, APM would be waste, but for basic flying and UAV it is best.

    CC3D should have scored higher in the modes department. It is lacking in hardware modes but it sure gets it right when you want to configure flight modes. In the Google app configuration programs you are stuck with one set of rates across all stability modes. That sucks so bad. Not everybody thinks they are going to be the next racing champ, some want to shoot some video or simply go on a 'Sunday Drive' as it were. Yes technically you can changes rates on the fly with Cleanflight but I think you do it through some clunky stick combos. Really, during flight? Too bad the Libre pilot project seems to be stagnating in the hardware dept. I don't understand all the hate for that platform I think it's just not the 'IN' platform right now because all of you are going to win in Dubai, right?
