- If you have no idea how a quadcopter works, but you want to, then this video is for you. I go over the basics of making FPV quadcopters, ( aka Drones or UAV, ) and explain what goes into making a quad for drone racing. Leave feedback, it's much welcome! This is my first try at this kind of video, so if it's hard to follow- please let me know.

I have been playing with electronics for many years. I thought I would watch this for hoot. Well, the young man in the video did a wonderful job of expressing the basic concepts.
Kudos to you sir. Keep the shiny side up!
I am 39 years old, and that young dude there is teaching me like a champ!
damn im 14 lol
Knowledge is an equal opportunity instructor.
i am 36, and i will pu together my first drone :D
Yeap!! I will make my own drone.. next project.... damn... I am 48
Holy crap, we're a bunch of old dudes having a really good lesson about drones. Knowledge comes from everywhere. Stay sharp and never close your eyes.
This video is 6 years old and is still the single best video on UA-cam related to beginner quad building. Awesome job man.
Coming from a 30 year EE, I really would like to commend you are your enthusiastic mentoring. Low-tech presentations take it home to the masses! Thanks to what you are doing.
Real teaching. Honestly I hope he becomes a professor.
As your spiritual successor, I hope to see this lad surpass my research in autonomous aerial robotics.
I could not leave without commenting.. You did a really great job at making this video and explaining everything!
Thank you!! I'm glad you liked the video.
Excellent simple explanation for someone like me who has no idea
yup same
It's the end of 2019, and I found this video as relevant and as helpful as it probably was way back when it was uploaded in 2016. Loved the explanation, the sequencing, and the clarity. You, sir, have my eternal gratitude, thumbs up and subscription, in that order.
Rock on.
This video is a masterpiece, and I mean it! I cannot express how important this video is to me but I have to let you know that I admire you from the bottom of my heart. Showing off advanced flying techniques is good, yet there are more people who want to get into FPV like me find hard to start understanding functions of components & basics of this hobby. Especially being that funny & humble in teaching is a real good time to me, it’ s not bored in the theories you explained! Thank you man, you have done a very good job! And you have helped a lot of people through this! Sad to see you break your arm & hope you get recovered soon!
Thank you .I searched many videos to find these basics but no one could explain as you do.You are the best.Simple and direct. Whatever you do may your career becomes successful.
Very simple, precise and right to the point drone concept explanations! Bravo!! Love your "cardboard classes lessons", you should do more like this!
Thanks
Dude even in 2021 you deserve a medal for this. I think you need to make an updated version, win.
I'm a complete noob thinking about getting his first drone. Without a doubt you just gave my a very clear and easy to understand first lesson. If you're educating people like this in 2016, you should be awesome now in 2020! THANK YOU!
I am a noobie, I listened to your explanation and went from "I haven't got a clue" to "now I understand this". You sir have talent, it takes talent to show people something that seems complicated and get them to understand by breaking it all down. Hell yeah make more videos ! Thanks for taking the time. Hope your hand gets better !
Dude thankyou so much i have been looking for a video just like this for three days now because im trying to get into fpv drones
Thanks, very informative! I like your editing and humor.
Dude I have been watching lots of videos on how to build a drone and so far you are the only one that has been able to dummy it down to make it very clear.
Thank you so much and keep up the good work.
Keep posting
This is the only video that simply explained drone layouts clear enough to where I actually learned something & now have a firm grasp on a drones basic components
You explained the concept step by step and easy to follow. Thank you.
No prob!
Single best explanation of what is going on with drones that I have found anywhere. Too many other videos presume a degree of electrical/drone knowledge that is very offputting for newer types like myself. Oh well, thanks to vids like this the future is droneshaped!
Thank you so much! I mean it man!
This video is incredible! I’m working for drone supply chain project for graduate school and I’ve been forwarding this to all my team members who aren’t familiar with how drones work.
Amazing job!
I just became a Commander of my Quadcopter Team in ROTC and at first I knew a little about drones, now I feel confident that I will be able to help my team.
Thanks my guy!
A fine gentleman....
thank you good sir. VERY well explained.
Out of all of the fpv videos I've watched this is the only video that had everything I needed to know. Thank you.
I've watched a bunch of these, and this was the clearest explanation I have seen yet. Well done! And thank you for the lesson.
dude ur awesome thanks for ur time
+Joe Eichholz Thanks!!!!!!
well explained dude enjoyed it lot nice info.
Thanks for watching! Glad that you found it useful. Let me know if there's anything I could do better
The way you explained it, is simple and genius. Even a money could build a drone after watching your video! Keep up the good work mate, cheers!
I just recently got into FPV and have a few small quads. I have been wondering about building my own for quite some time and have watched many vids. Your Plain Jane tutorial just gave me the confidence to go ahead with my 1st diy! Thank you so much for your time!! Keep it up! 😎subbed!
This is the best video..I've ever seen..great work!
You deserve more subscribers..you earned my sub..
Thank you!!!! I'm glad you liked it.
THE POWER DISCIUBISCIONBOARD:. :D thank you, awsome video!!
The same here as I was confused by the dish-tribution board first :)
You have an approach to teaching that is extremely beneficial and rare. You did a fantastic job with this.
Thank you, that means a lot
One of the most to-the-point videos I have seen - Excellent video. Thank you so much for doing this! Love it!
Awesome. Thanks!
Np!
nice explanation..dude
Thanks!!!!!!
Dude, you are the only one on the internet that has done the most excellent job of explaining a quad copter on the internet, I appreciate the no QUAD PRO LINGO and you speaking to the beginner level on their level and I am going to watch YOUR videos from now on. Thanks again
Your explanation and conversation with the comment is very wonderful👍👍 continue
great video dude!! great help for anyone to start building!! keep up the good work!!
Thank you!
Simplest,perfect explanation.Thanks
You're welcome!
Why the hell am i getting this video after 4 years??? Your teaching is freakin awesome and crystal clear, great potential.
Wow, you are gifted in explaining and instructing, I was engaged fully constantly. Your speech was clear and the speed is spot on and so are the durations of the pauses. I did not have to pause or rewind at any point. I will be learning to present like you do.
nice work kid. really like your teaching style. this is coming from a teacher and coach...
Thanks Bobby! That means a lot! 👍👍👍
Bobby Dixon I need the schematic diagram.
Benjamineudeh@gmail.com
Bobby Dixon I looove how you think adding "coach" might make somebody respect you more. If you are anything like any coach I have met ever, then you suck.
This is a great how to video I am 61 years old and this video has given me the confidence to build my own drone BTW how do I get to the second video I subscribed to your channel.
i hope you are still alive, i see your comment from 6 months ago nobody willing to answer.
here are viseo of part two.
ua-cam.com/video/kQ9FvNB9sNA/v-deo.html
i wish you great life.
He ded
In 2021 I watch this video.. even without proper tools and just record in your room, you have deliver this very well.. nice job 👍
I just wanna say out standing job sir. I have watched countless build and explanation videos and haven't bean as clear as I am now after seeing what u did here with just cardboard pictures and sharpie. Great work good job man keep it up
instructions not clear, accidentally created a sentient robot who eats hand lotion
Graeme Baxter 🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤯🤔🥴
You should become a university teacher!
Its quite possible he is. Maybe he invented a youth regenerating processor?
Good explanation that covers a lot of material, you get deep while keeping the listener interested and on track.
Glad you liked it!!! 👍
I am an Electrical Engineer at Purdue and I just want to say that you do an excellent job at giving the basics of this. Hat's off to you sir
Your video is the best explanation video I have seen for the absolute beginner, thank you
Riley, Thanks a million sir! Your efforts are sincerely appreciated!! I’m definitely going to see if you have put out any more videos on this!!!!
This is great, dude. I'm 44, have had a drone for a while, but it's winter and I'm bored. Regulated boards, was searching like crazy, you answered my biggest question! Now to solder up something bigger than 11.8/1500mah! Word!
just starting out, this is very basic, kind of crude BUT it is all I need to understand the core concepts of WTF the quad needs to run. Awesome video. Thank you.
Thank you so much for making these videos!!! They're a great introduction; I knew nothing going into it but you made it really easy to understand from start to finish.
You're welcome! I glad you liked them!
I'm 65 and this video was one of the easiest to understand from this young guy. Top job. You will certainly go places.
please make a part two to this video. it was great information and i have watched it many times to clear the concepts in my head. thank you
Thank you, someone who put thing in simple terms. My interest are drone, flying ,fixing, moderfing and building them. I am 70 years and get real annoyed as I find almost all UA-cam posts are low on their advice Tahank you again.
hi I'm a beginner drone pilot and like most beginners wanting to build there first drone, is a little intimidated by all the wires and components ect. and you definitely did a great job helping me understand the process. To you sir, you have my thanks!
Hey! I know I’m 5 years late but what a video!! 🔥 you just killed it. The way you explained about the components was just fabulous. I’m so impressed. Keep it up bro 👍
I watched tons of videos about DIY drones and this is the best one by far. Excellent job sir!
I grew up oldskool RC. (Vintage RC). I built my own cars, was even sponsored here and there. I'm stunned when I think about it I haven't even touched a drone yet. Probably because I was awash with all the changes and components involved. Thank you for breaking it all down. Now, the rabbit hole of FCU's and firmware... lol. Thank you! Liked and subscribed.
Wow that's a induction on how to understand how a drone works 👍 going to watch Part 2 now. Thanks for shearing. 🙏
This is the best video I've watched so far about breaking everything down.
Good job
Excellent ! You explain better than most proclaimed Experts !
You did an awesome job simplifying a complex topic into something a novice could understand. Bravo!
Very cool. Good video. This is one of the only videos ive seen that actually break it down and just shows all the parts we need to build. Im still learning about homemade drones, have spent mant many hours already researching. i wish i had seen this first, i still find it valuable even after all my hours of watching i thought the power supply and the esc were all on 1 board.
One of the best explanations for anything so far
You really really are a good teacher buddy. Can't go watch part 2 without appreciating.
Great job man! I am 36 and just starting out. Super easy to understand and wrapped it all up nicely! Keep it up!
So incredibly informative; and clear and concise. You're a rockstar, Riley !
Great work young brother... I am currently undertaking an A2 CofC Course (Drone Pilot Licensing)
And, as a fresher, I find you 'Lessons' easily understandable and beneficial to my current studies.
Many many thanks and keep up with your fascinating presentations.
Dang man, this vid has helped me so much. I have been looking for a tutorial just on basic drone parts and how they work and what they do, just bought a fiat one gt m530 and I love it! Just want to make sure I know what to do if (when) I crash it 🤣🤣thanks
Dude well done video. Simple and too the point. Still helping people even 6 years after you made it
I'm impressed with this easy learning of 1st step. Thx, Riley
Holy shit this is exactly what I needed to get a grasp of what parts where and where they go, absolutely great job. I feel so much better after watching this.
I just want you to know that I’ve watched about 10 different “how to build a drone” videos and they all assume I know what ESC, VTX, etc stand for. This video has been more helpful than all the 30+ mins ones I’ve watched. Thanks so much!
+Michael Strack No prob! That was the idea :) get the basics in ASAP and you can get yourself flying in no time :)
Wonderful wonderful attempt Riley bro 😎
The kind of pain you have taken to enlighten us all with your efforts is commendable 👍🏻 wish you the best
The explanation was amazing, specially your artistic skills! xD Really helped me a lot to learn the basics! Thanks a ton!
I decided to do something like this for my senior project, you are a wonderful help in my research!
+connor jackson No prob dude, let me know if I can be of any help!
This is the only video on the World Wide Web that explains how a drone works in a way that i can understand. Thank you! Finally!!!
+Takle Glad you like it!
You have done a great job in explaining the fundamentals of drones, thanks.
I thank you for doing this.. You really break it down and don't assume the beginner knows anything. My students love your video. Great job.
Very impressed with your depth of understanding.
Really great, you really helped me on figure out the components and their functions. Now I'll probably go build one. Thanks mate!
I want to thank you for breaking it down for me. You did it very well, and Now I understand much better.
Gotta say, you sure make it seam realistic. Mr. Steel just makes me want to skip even trying a bnf, but just jump straight to rtf. You inspire the confidence to try at least.
This is the best introductory video I've seen and was exactly what I needed.
I'm just getting into FPV and this video is exactly what I was looking for ! Thanks a lot ! ;)
This was a great intro to something I’m curious about getting into. Keep up the good work
This video made everything make sense to me , it's so clear , so simple in explaining the drone basics in a very good way . Thank you man 👌❤️
The skills you demonstrate in this video will serve you well in life. Don't lose that spirit!
Young man you did an excellent job teaching this old guy the basics of drone function and building. I understand completely how they work now.
7 years later, getting interested in the thing, you made it really simple for me to understand.
Thank you so much for this video! You did a fantastic job of explaining the basics. Very informative, and now I know about the speed controllers (I was *WONDERING* how they did that part...). Can't wait to see the next video. Hope the arm has healed! :D
Wow.....
Outstanding job just what i was looking for, you truly dumbed it down.....
Thanks for the super step by step....
I envy your ability to keep such complexity so darn simple. Thks
this video is probably the best said information i ever heard. nice job
Bro, Mind Blown! Best tutorial I've ever seen... EVER!
I like the way you stay on subject and are very clear with the whole explanation of how every component ties in with one another. My simple mind didn’t wander once. Haha.
I constantly find myself coming back here. Kudos, man
Wow, this young fellow has a brain like a professor, he is really explaining with such a manner, that almost anyone could learn. Bravo!
