Marc, I finally fixed the flickering OSD on these boards. I take the power directly from the battery and bypass the power rail on the board. It works fantastic now!
Very informative. Thank you!
Nice review. Thank you 👍
Excellent review; thanks Marc! I would have liked to see a separate buzzer pad on the board itself so I could use my Vifly buzzer.
One thing to note about this FC is it’s lack of BEC for the VTX, specifically for digital video. The f405-wse has a 9v bec specifically for the new digital systems. Hopefully a cap will help clean up the video feed.
What is BEC?
The funny thing is that i circle around this board (to purchase it) but the 16Mb "blackbox" memory size it has seems too small for ardupilot logging.I contacted Matek to see if i can solder a larger NOR flash chip on it so to increase the available memory. But something tells me that they going to direct me to the 405 TE controller with the SD card adapter!Time will show 😊
Nice board
Great review can you do a review setting up in Inav from start to flying as i am in the process of setting mine up, I am not new to Matek but for the life of me cannot get power output to the servos s3 and s4. Im set up as a wing no tail, s1 motor, that runs from the Tx (DJI) thru DJI air unit all servo tabs in configurator work fine, model sensors respond to model picture in configurator but I cannot get ail and ele servos working. I have been flying this plane with a conventional rx and flies great but now want auto launch and return to home. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Wayne
Good informative overview. Appreciate the closeup view of component layout. For future FC reviews, you might want to mention of the online data sheet, or include a reference link in the description. Matek always has very detailed reference info.
I'm in the process of deciding between F405-WMN and H743-WLITE for my next smaller wing build. (F405-WTE is off my list as has built in receiver, which would be poorly located in my build).
Like you, I would have liked to see more flash on the F405-WMN. I see many advantages of the F405-WMN vs F411-WTE and F411-WSE.
For additional PWM outputs, I believe one option may be to use a Matek's CrossFire-to-PWM board. This should allow connecting a Crossfire (output) via one of F405's UART's for the extra channels. Have not verified, to ensure INAV can handle, and may require some channel (re)mapping in INAV to ensure some channels not duplicated.
oh good point with the link to the matek page. I will add it as soon as I get to my PC. thanks
What for current divider value did you use? In INAV the default is 317, but I found that 257 was more accurate.
hello, my osd gone on this FC even when not armed, any ideas of this issue?
Hllo ,can I connect the F405-wmn to lipo 3s 10000mah + ESC 50 A?
Thank you.
Thank you for the review! Could you please tell, why do i have massege in inav "no dataflash chip found"? This FC has 16mb flash memory, ist t it?
I assume you flashed the wrong target. You have to make sure to flash MATEKF405TE
@@MarcFPV Thanks, i will try so
Hi, will this FC work with FS-IA6B receiver?
yep no problem. Just use iBus on any UART Rx pad.
Sorry for dumb question, but newbie here. What makes difference between F405 MiniTE and F405-WMN except convenience for soldering pins? Can we use MiniTE for fixed wing just fine too?
the Fixed Wing optimized FCs have integrated dedicated Voltage regulators to power your servos. The MiniTE doesn't have that so you need an external BEC to power your servos. If you try to run them from the 5V of the board, you will very likely fry the board or cause it to reboot as soon as the servos move a bit faster.
@@MarcFPV Thanks a lot !
they're getting smaller, in line with the smaller planes on the market I guess.
shame because I actually prefer the standard size F405-WING board because they're less fiddly to work with.
I fly bigger planes so going tiny is the opposite of beneficial to me personally
Yeah there are very mixed opinions. The pads and pad distances are the same but more spread out on the old one. On the other hand, this is NOT a successor or replacement of the current F405-WTE. The WMN series is a new line of FCs for small but full capable planes. So the WTE will stay on the market for a while aside of the H743 high end line and the F411-WTE "budget" line.
I bought two and both seem to lose OSD output at throttle up. Not understanding this as yet
You have to install the Capacitor that comes with them on your ESC or alternatively to the ESC Pads on the FC. NOT to the battery pads or leads.
@@MarcFPV did that with all my installs, still OSD drop out and horizontal lines. I decided to drop in another working board F765-wing, and no interference whatsoever. I’m wondering if this new board has a shielding issue for the OSD chipset? I have two of these I can’t use.
@@MrVasmikey The WMN Indeed lacks a bit of filtering but in my Case it can handle it well in 2 planes now. If it is still that bad maybe think of a different ESC on these planes. What ESC did you use?
@@MarcFPV I will have to check. One T1 dual ESCs and the other a single generic esc. All three work ok with other boards.
