If your gonna go thru the aggravation of pulling the carb, may as well pull the carb apart and clean it, especially since that one had a ton of crap in the bowl, rebuilding is usually not necessary...90% of the time the carb jets are clogged...

Deal of the year! With Troy built and Honda, you can't go wrong. And like the others said, don't use ether. Get a little squirt bottle with a tube out the top and put two stroke mix in it and prime with that.

When putting this type of carb back on, put two wooden dowels in the bolt holes. Slide all the parts on. Then hold the whole affair against the block, pull dowels out one at a time and put the bolts in. Makes it a 2 minute job. Cleaning emulsion tube is a definate to do.
Honda carbs are usually less than $25.00. No kits available, have to get parts piece by piece.

Got a FREE Honda mower from a guy down the street that his kids used it to mow yards with. They said it just stopped running one day and would not start. I checked it out, added gas (bone dry) and checked the oil which was barely showing on the dip stick. Well not everyone knows that Honda engines have a low oil cut off switch so I added fresh oil and the mower started on the second pull. It still needs a bit of work on the controls and a replacement wheel but what the heck I got a free mower.

A much easier way to see if there is dirt, water or old fuel in the bowl, is to just loosen the bolt on the bottom. Smell the gas coming out to see if smelling right and look on deck for bubbles to see if water. If either is found let fuel drain till good gas comes out. I had a lawnmower I picked up with a full tank of new gas, but the bowl was full of old gas. This is the easiest first test after a shot of starting fluid.

Take carb apart always clean it and blow it out.
Now when ya try to start it full choke or what ever the manufacturer says some don't have chokes so ya pump the bulb. Doesn't matter how jot it is outside the motor is cold now after it warms up you won't have to choke it until the engine gets cold. 😊

  • @bayviewnick8791
    @bayviewnick8791 5 років тому +1

You were almost there! When you had the carb apart, the fuel delivery passage is up above the metering valve base and goes up into the throat of the carb. If fuel starvation is the issue, take the carb apart and clean all passages with carb cleaner and blow the passages out. Your issue happens to many, MANY people! It comes from leaving fuel in the mower (blower/chainsaw/whacker/etc.) over the winter. When the gas evaporates, deposits clog passages.

Underneath the main jet lies the "Emulsion Tube". That should be pushed out from the inside of the venturi and cleaned with the micro drill bits. The Chinese carbs also have a midrange-low speed jet which lies under the throttle stop screw. Remove the throttle stop, pull out the low speed jet, and run a #78 micro drill bit thru it.

Oil level does matter in those that have them, so it needs to be on the checklist.

Really nice job on that mower. All that greasy grunge on the deck can be as a result of the previous owner overfilling with oil, and GCV's are renown for leaking oil out the governor shaft, when overfull. Keep that level at the full or down 1/8"inch from full mark and you wont have that grunge to clean up. $10 and a bit of time, and look at the result, well worth it!!!

One man’s junk, another man’s treasure !!! Awesome job, process of elimination worked. Gotta love yard sales. I bought a “so called” junk pressure washer, carb was full of junk, cleaned it and it works fine. Paid $25.00 for it, sold it for $80.00, took less than an hour to clean the carb, BOOM !!! Slow down and look around, their “junk” can usually be fixed for just a little time and very little money. Nice Job.

every mower mfg tells you not to run at anything but full throttle when cutting grass. don't believe everything Tubers say

    • @matthewhoward6667
      @matthewhoward6667 5 років тому +4

@@johnmeynardie6356 you should, in fact, always mow at full throttle. Lugging the engine will cause early wear inside the engine. Idling down is for mowers with a blade break (when the blade is not engaged) or when you are warming up or cooling down.

      It's an experience to learn.
      Spark
      Fuel
      Compression
      Timing.
But if the bowl is full of
      Debris?
      Clean the Jets and vent
      And tiny passages.
Clean and Wash off as you
      Disassem.
Blo thru or use cheap carb
      Spray can to push thru
      Passages .
      Remove and clear the main
      Circuit..

Nathan or Nat, many would be too proud or embarassed to keep that part where the fuel had been turned off. Great job. I am praying my problem is not carburetor. 15 year old Murray 6 hp Briggs and Stratton...but also still have my dad's mower from the eighties. Too bad our manufacturers don't have the wisdom to design with longevity. I still have the large Panasonic Genius Microwave, and Moffat oven. I just replaced the baker element which is still available..flawless survivors that we can trust, instead of fragile plastic with important parts that crack or snap off making them totally useless...and parts no longer available, extinct...stinct?

What do I think.....Wonderful. You video was very entertaining for some reason. The fuel stabilizer can be a good thing to use. I have avoided a lot of problems by changing the oil, air filter and spark plug at the beginning of every summer season. Also starting the mower several times a week year round has really helped.

I would put a little Seafoam in the gas tank for the first several tanks to finish cleaning out the carburetor. I would add about one ounce in the first tank and half ounce in the next few tanks. I would also use premium non ethanol gas in it, too. Ethanol gas was the cause of your problems to start with. Why create more possible problems for the future?

John Clarke I invested in an ultrasonic cleaner. OMG! Why didnt I buy one of those years ago. I mix dollars store totally awesome cleaner with water 20:1 and run the cleaner about 20 minutes with heat. The ammount of carb cleaner I have wasted money on over the years would have bought me 10 of these cleaners! Not to meantion much healthier for you.

We use to buy lawnmowers Rehab them...push mower we got $40-50 Riding mowers we would $150-250. We took Trade Ins for our New mowers. We sold Snapper....they were really popular and we got a ton of trade ins.

Done in 10 -20 minutes, done it dozens of times.
