    This could really be of help to someone in need of a lawnmower, but cannot afford to spend tons of money they don’t have.it also keeps the landfills free of needlessly tossed out items. I have been inspired by your video. Thank you. 👍😃

    As i just learnt from watching another video on these engines, the 'pointy' end of the air filter points back towards the operator. It matches up with the angle of the motor body.

    GOOD SAVE!
    One less mower goes to the grave!
    That weather at the end reminded me of my typical British summertime. Very much like winter, but the rain is not as cold :)

    If they're not too beet up its fun working on these things. This one just needed basic repairs, better ROI than getting pushed to your limit by corporate thats for sure

    I gave $10.00 for one real close to this one , hadn't been taken care of. But after a carburetor diaphragm and clean the carburetor and getting all the water out , oil change ,sharpened blade , installed a new air filter . Let it run for thirty minutes in the yard - no grass to mow its winter here - it's ready for after it gets a little better cleaning after spring gets here . But on another note got a Troy-Bilt - Honda given to me , owner couldn't get it running , I did and all that was wrong with it was they didn't installed the carburetor in line with the choke lever . I'm tickled with , I've changed oil and shaped blade and decided since it's in the shape it is - I'm keeping it for a trim mower . Lucky you and me -thanks for the video ...

    Good job on saving that lawnmower I’m the same way I can’t see anything going to a scrap yard that starts up on one pull

    I've repaired by such an ignition coil using glue liked heatshrink tubing (aka Raychem heatshrink tubing) & it worked well.
    I wouldn't worry about the STP stuff & I only used the 20W50 oil in my 3 horsepower Briggs and Stratton lawnmower when it had worn piston rings,even then it didn't matter because it drunk 1/3rd of a crankcase full of oil in a couple of hours of mowing.
    I gave it a rering last Christmas & I used the recommended SAE30 monograde oil in it,after the run in period (5 hours) I dumped that oil out & refilled it with a mixture of 400 mLs SAE30 & 200mLs 10W30 multigrade oil & it doesn't use that much oil now.
    The air cooled engines do use oil when they get hot apparently,I wouldn't worry about the thicker oil unless I was silly enough to do the mowing on a 40+°C day.
    The mower in the video has the same CC rating as mine but mine was only able to be made to put out 3.5 horsepower so I wonder if they run a different camshaft or something ?

    Nice video I to like free finds. I got a whole bunch of stuff a few days back 2 Craftsman Riders, 4 Trimmers, 4 Push Mowers. 2 Push Mowers were junk the other 2 were 2002 Briggs Quantum Series. Got them Running used one to mow my yard with. Got one rider running its Briggs 11HP 252707 engine after fixing a stuck valve. The other needs a key switch and has a 13 HP Tecumseh on it. The trimmers I have yet to fool with but one looks like it may run. Great Video and I am from SWVA

    The problem with Murray mowers is the cheap metal they use for their frames. Every one that I've owned has worn out where the handle meets the base.

    Nice save but you're missing the governor spring so it's only running at idle speed. I see you have that damn ground ivy there too, that stuff gives me fits here in NJ. Very aggressive weed and hard to control!

  • @bronzechicken4437

    Yours is missing the governor spring though, ir runs way too slow.

    • @FixingWithPassion
      @FixingWithPassion  6 років тому +5

      Actually the Idle started to go up after a while. I was worried about a missing spring but I see no place a spring should go. The governor hooks to the back of the engine and works that way. But the idle speed now is pretty hi.

    All I can say is? People who don't know nothing or anything about Lawn Mower or Push Mowers are clearly just stupid and they assume the worse! It's no longer good?! They throw it away. Just like that and it ticks me off! I have owned a few Murray Push Mowers? Even a classic one from 1993 22" Deck Push Mower. Which had a Tecumseh 3.8 HP TVS90 Engine on it. Then, years later did a engine swap and brought a New Old Stock a.k.a. NOS Briggs & Stratton 3.5 HP Engine from 1986! Which had the original automatic choke Fast, Slow, & Stop feature operated by a Manual Throttle Control. I worked on a Briggs & Stratton and started working on a few second hand Tecumseh 3.5. TVS90 and 4HP Engines. I replaced the old Ignition Coils with New Ignition Coil more up to date with the Rubber Boot! I cleaned the Tecumseh Carburetors of The Float, The Jet, The Needle Valve, The Pin, and replacing the Rubber Seat with new ones! Great video Mr. Fixing With Passion 👍💯! I'm glad you saved this classic 22" Murray Push Mower with a Briggs & Stratton 4.50 HP Series!

    How many times did we fix a mower...by adding fresh gas. Gas goes dead if it stays in the tank to long.

      True,Usally at the beginning of Lawn Season was this a simple fix. We never charged for bad gas.Only if the mower or machine needed additional work did we charge for that.Thanks for commenting.:-)

    Sorry it was 158 dollars. I thought it was the cheapest model. It’s not because the deck is bigger and the cutting width Is bigger. One more thing. I noticed your mower idles at at a very low rpm rate. I noticed the governor spring is missing and likely rotted. If you replace that you will have a very nice mower with a quality Briggs motor. The new Briggs motors are jokes.

    • @FixingWithPassion
      @FixingWithPassion  5 років тому +1

      Yeah nice score. I love this type of Briggs and Stratton engines. Anything made in 2012 (some) or later are just poorly made. (Specifically the 125, 140, and 163cc engines). They have WAY too many plastic parts such as the carburetor, which are poorly made and give people starting issues, plastic recoil cup, plastic housing, plastic gas tank, plastic cam gear, and more problems. I’d save that mower, even if it does not look the fanciest. It’s really well made and should last some time if properly maintained.
