Thanks for the review! The 925 and 725 have been my favourites (200lbs+ rider) but I've been riding the MA1225 with a chopped 232 (no shim), 50 fuse and it's honestly been a revelation for SUP foiling and general winging in swell in anything from 12 knots to 35+. I wouldn't believe it had I not experienced the range and speed of the foil myself. It definitely has a draggier feel than HAs but I'm hitting the same or better speeds than my 925 since the 1225 such good pitch control. This has been really surprising. Found the same on the MA1000 (205 surf tail and 60 fuse). Aggressive turning on swell or boosting jumps feels really good on the MAs. Breach recovery feels much better than even the HAs to me as well. I think to get the most from the MAs you need to stay "busy" on them, turning hard, and riding pinned. They just offer so much reactivity ridden aggressively. I could see how someone might find them a bit sedate compared to the HAs, but again, they want to be pushed. The more you push, the better the reward. Sometimes I feel the HAs get a bit squirrely when trying to force a tight turn while the MA just grips and rails with zero fuss even with the tip out. The HA925 is a special foil for sure and I'll keep it, but a MA 1000 may need to be ordered for the good wave days. The 205 tail felt really good to me on the 1000 that I borrowed. Waiting for my 235 and 205 tails. I sold the HA1125 which was a great glider and really fun but not a friendly foil for ripping tighter turns. The MA1225 brings less glide and pump but the fun factor outweighs the down sides. Ultimately we choose what tool works best for us in foiling and we all have different needs and tastes.
Awesome to read all this, thank you!! I do love the 1000, and I’m patiently waiting to try that 1225, I figure I’ll totally love that thing. Interesting you are hitting similar speeds to the 925! I find the 1000 drops out a good amount when underpowered and going slow, but just like you said, you gotta work it and it likes to be active. I’m starting to get used to that, and that’s a great thing, making me charge more and inspired to turn harder. It’s a fun foil, and fun process for sure. My 205 comes in to the shop today, so I should have it in hand by the weekend. Stoked. I really hope it improves all the little issues I have with it.
The biggest difference I've found between HA and MA foils is when the water is chaotic, the MAs have so much more stability and predictability. I went back to my HA foil in some waves the other day and kept getting surprise lift and had to really stay on top of the foil the whole session, I got exhausted a lot faster. The glide and pumpability is great but I also really appreciate the predictability and comfort of foils in the 6.5-7.5 range, I feel like I can push them harder because I won't get any surprises due to rough water.
Right on bud! I do love these MAs, and I think they are awesome in roughy water. But I don’t like riding them when I’m on the underpowered side, especially in the chop. I don’t love the way they get on foil compared to the 925. And they are dropping out on me at lower speeds, which has been kind of annoying. So at least with the 1000, I’m going to try to ride it in adequate to overpowered settings, or basically rigging big. I hope the new tails change that like everyone says. I bet I could shim the tail so it doesn’t drop as bad but then the low speed takeoff will be trickier. So far I’m still loving the 925… I honestly don’t feel the surprise lift and to me they are more predictable in more ways than the 1000. BUT I really do love this 1000. Im just discovering what situations I will gravitate towards using it I guess. New tails should show up this week! Stoked for those. Is that what you are using?
Juts had my first session with the 205 tail and 800. Oh man!!! Incredible. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had in 3-6ft waves. It’s so surfy and loose but with so much stability. I put it at the same position as I put my 795/60/725/195(one red shim) setup. Got thrown off twice in the first 10 minutes but then got used to the extra front foot pressure. Armstrong appears to have refined the manufacturing process as well. The 205 is really flush with the fuse.
so stoked to hear this! I really hope Armie ships our 205's soon. I know I could get one online but I like to stick to my local wing dealer. so you are riding the 205 with a red shim? good to know. I may try that first. so far I ride the 1000 at the same position as all my other Armie wings, I'm glad that's how it turned out, since you hear so many people in the last 2 months saying they ride the 2cm forward. let me know how that 800 continues to feel! I'll get on one soon. I'm so curious if I'll feel compelled to get one or if I think it's too similar to the 725. you have a 725, right? how would you say it compares?
@@OCEANBOUND1 Yeah man I've been riding the 205 with one red shim. The speed with the 800 is insane. Almost as fast as a 725/195 combo. I was kind of disappointed with the 800/195 combo (as well as 1000/195) in terms of speed. The 205 makes everything super stable so I can hit higher speeds with a lot more confidence now. And quickly cut into a tight jibe or tack without worry of messing up. I can usually hear my tail and fuse kick out but no wobble or loss of stability. I'll still go 725 or 925 if the wind is generally light or on and off just so I can get the extra glide and ease of pump. The fun factor with the 800/205 is through the roof. Waves, small bumps, jumps, anything. The hype is real.
@@puddingpatrol coming back to this discussion after the new stabs have been released. Is the 205 outdated already? 🙂 Have you guys used the speed 180 or the dart 140 with a MA800 instead of the 205? Thanks for all the insight and vids @OCEANBOUND1
@@mh3530 The 205 is not outdated. It's the smoothest of all the new tails--great tail for getting into the MA foils. The 180 is faster and has great low end and glide (my light-wind go-to). The 140 is faster and more nimble--best for tight carving. It is smaller so it is a bit more pitch sensitive. Still heaps of lift.
On the 935 performance mast.(Love it) Only use the 195 rear stab no shim at the moment. The Ha925 is my go to foil. It’s all about the feel for me.Went out and purchased the Ma800 as my progression foil to improve my skills. Had three sessions on the Ma800 so far in 18knts plus and it’s blown my mind it’s so much fun to ride. It definitely hasn’t the pump and glide of the Ha foils which was to be expected.Felt very at home on it from the first session which l didn’t expect. Look at my foils as a surfboard quiver. You choose the foil according to the conditions your riding. Even used the Ha1325 in 30 knots with a 3,5m Strike and loved it to ride the bumps because of the glide which l never expected as it was purchased as my light wind foil. Still loving the f-one strikes with the soft handles in the 3.5m and the 4.2m. Light as a feather to use and brilliant in gusty conditions Had some demos on the 2023 units and ended up with a 6.5 m Dlab to replace my Strike CWC 6m l have blown the bladder on. Loving it as my light wind setup with the Ha925 instead of the Ha 1325 as the Dlab has so much more grunt and is more like a race wing being so ridged which makes light winds way more fun on flat water. It would be very hard to convert me over to Units in smaller sizes from Strikes which are superior to use to flag out , ride bumps and in the surf.
Awesome bud, I love hearing all of this. I'm stoked to ride the 800 someday, I assume it will be a more stable version of the 725, maybe with a little less speed. And I'm super stoked to try the new stabs, we've been patiently waiting for Armie to send them our way... everyone seems to say you need all that to really get the full MA experience. I'm down if that's true. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the MA1000 vs 925 if you get to try them. As far as the DLabs... I'm jealous dude! a 6.5m DLab would be my ultimate racing wing for sure, I do love the non-DLab version. Although I do feel like my 5.5m v2 Strike has about the same low end as the 6.5m Unit. They def pump differently, I'm probably still trying to get used to them. And I hear the DLabs don't swing around as much, which would be great for waves, but like you, the Strikes are so light and awesome for waves I see no need to switch those out. Great to hear about yr quiver... let me know how that 800 feels as you continue to ride it! We were thinking it'd replace the 725 but at this point I may just keep the 725. I'd have to be pretty blown away by the 800's stability and lower stall speed to get one, since I already have the 725. I wish you an awesome weekend bud!
oh man that's awesome... stoked for you!! I gotta try one of those, I'll see if my wing dealer has any in stock. i wish you an awesome weekend bud... I hope you get some wind to use your new ride!
yeeeeew bud hope your well loved this one I thought the video quality was great i always watch yours on big tv and i looked really crisp . Man when you knocked the wind out of you man it sucks i did it few days ago think its when you fall from the high point of the wave and up high on foil looked like thats what you did here as well . Interesting view on the foils it will be good to look back after a few months of using these and see how you settle and if you keep both have to see when your new stab arrives . thanks for the great content look forward to the next one speak soon Chris
awesome to hear the video looks good on yr big screen! the last few I've been changing a setting or two, so I'm mostly happy it doesn't look worse! but stoked it looks good. about the fall, couldn't not include that. it's weird, I think I've only done that once or twice winging, but it's funny that it happened and this is like the second sesh I've started wearing an impact vest. I'm gonna try more jumps this year, I really want to get a 360. And almost every attempt so far has resulted in a hit or a near hit to some part of my body with the foil, so I decided it's time to rock one. BUT I can't help but think this particular hit, which seemed pretty basic or normal, would not have been so bad if this padding wasn't there. I'm just gonna watch it, see if it happens again. I'd rather get a hit like that than impale myself with the foil! the MA/HA dilemma!! I'm so curious what future Jeremy will be riding more. I guess the new stabs make a big difference? TBD, I hope so. slightly underwhelmed by the MA compared to HA but it's only been 7 or 8 sessions. and everyone is different. and I'm a weirdo. hope all is well bud! I have a funny collab idea I wanted to see if you were into, I'll reach out on FB. I wish you an awesome weekend bud!
LOL I dunno but if they make it, I'll try it! I love riding my gear, but trying new things makes it all so much more interesting. I think there will be mid-high aspect wings, or they will find ways to pull more performance out of the HAs. I love the way the MAs work, but I think I'm a HA guy. Ask me next week and maybe I'll go in a different direction! lol.
Great info and thoughts! Thank you! I've got a 925 but will definitely try a MA if I get a chance. I hear the MA are more for prone surf? They supposedly recover better after breaching which happens more in prone surfing?
sweet bud! you can def get by without the MA, but it is nice. I def dig it but will ride it more when I'm powered up in my wing. this is the 1000, the 1225 may be nice to have for other reasons. you kinda have to work them, they want to go rail to rail and be pumped, which is fun to be more active, but you can stall too if you are thinking about other things. the new tails should be in soon, I hope it just makes me like them even more!
Forgot to mention that the 195 tail seemed to work better for me with a -1 or -.5 shim to help with reducing pitchiness. It made a big difference, but the new tails and even the chopped 232 feels better than the 195 from my testing.
Oh wow good to know. I’ve never reversed shimmed. I tried it once with plus 1 shim and I didn’t like the low end so much and getting up on foil, but it seemed to glide better. So I’ll prolly do that when I’m overpowered for more fun. In general I think I prefer riding the 1000 when I’m lit, and when average to underpowered situations I’ll be grabbing the 925. So stoked to get the new tails! I wish I didn’t sell that chopped 232 I had but it was a fatty v1 anyway so the new ones should be good. Stoked!!
Nice one Jeremy!! I am finally rocking my 925. And gotta say it’s working for me in the light wind. Haven’t tried the MAs yet but trying to figure out the next move for very light wind and Dw foil. Have been considering the ma1225 to replace my 1550v2…. I think there are many iterations when it comes to swapping around stab flavours. Have you ridden any of the HAs clipped?
Stoooooked you got one and dig it! I love that 925. For light wind… I sold my 1550v2 and went to the HA1325. It doesn’t turn like the 1550, but it’s faster and that’s what I need/wanted. Lift-wise it’s similar. I have only ridden the 1225 twice… I didn’t feel like it had the same lift as the 1550. I think you’d have to go bigger with the MAs… my MA800 is like my HA725 as far as lift goes, my MA1000 is the same if not slightly less low end than the 925. So maybe the MA1475 for you? I just got a 1675 and that has insane lift, but is awkward to turn so far. And I haven’t ridden anything chopped btw. Stoked for you bud! I wish you an awesome day!
Right on. Thanks yes. I’m stoked on the 925. I have been trying to make the 1675 work as well. It’s stiff winging with the 220glide but have seen comments to the effect that the speed 180 works well and someone saying they’re rocking the 140 dart with it but with noticeable loss in pump. I am considering a 1525ha to since one was offered to me for cheap…. So maybe I’ll clip it and run it with a whippy stab and short fuse…??? Armie did an interview at the AWSI and said that ma1425 is his go to foil at 95kgs…. Endless combos now - seems like quite a few guys are jumping on the pump foils… keep us updated on the 1675 😊 yeeew
awesome @@geogabara. I just ordered the 220 but I bet I'll get the 202 soon as well. like you said, endless combos... I have so much to experiment with in the coming months! cray. have a great day bud!!
@@OCEANBOUND1 Aaah yes I think there was a run on 1675s lol. I have one too --same experience with light wind winging with it--insane lift but a bit stiff with my 220 glide for turning. I am going to get a 1225 MA -hoping that to be my daily driver for winging light wind paired with the 925 for high wind . I am hoping to get more small surf action this winter and considering reviews by others think that it will be more forgiving for my beginner ass in the surf. getting back to the the 1675 however... this one is hopefully my "cheat code" for entry into DW paddle up sessions... I have heard recently of someone pairing it with a dart 140 and loving it.... so I kind of hope that the wide wing span stiffness can be over come by the right stab combos... I have yet to try it with my other stabs v200 and 212... will report back.
@@geogabara funny story, I ordered the 220 and the 202 was sent by mistake. I'm keeping it, it seems pretty good. 2 quick flatwater sessions so far and it got me closer to foil than ever before. It'll be interesting to see how it pairs with the wing. and the other foils too. I do not have a 140 but I have a 180 and I'll try that soon. I opened up pandora's box with this new setup, endless combinations to try, but exciting times!
Again, great video Jeremy. I really enjoy each of them. You rocks ! I've a question about HS vs HA : i've the HA1125, HA1325 and HS1850. My sessions are mixed between flat water and small to medium waves. In waves (15 - 20knots), considering my weight (i'm 95kg), i always use my 1850 because i don't feel good enought with 1325 in waves. I have the impression that it is less stable, and that it is more sensitive to vibrations than my 1850 (no problem in flat water). In an other hand, the 1850 is great, but a little too big in medium waves. In more than 20knots in waves, i use my 1125 and really enjoy it in any conditions. Do you think the HS1550 v2 will be better ? Or maybe the HS 1250 (but i'm afraid it will compete my 1125) ? Thanks !
sup bud! and thanks!! interesting question. I hear you, the 1850 is so nice but there comes a point where you have sessions and the waves start outrunning you. that's so frustrating!! the 1550 is def faster the 1850, and the 1250 is IMO only slightly faster than the 1550v2 but it's still a great option. I think as you get better the 1550 would replace the 1850. the 1250 def has overlap with the 1125, but they are very different. the lift on the 1250 is better, better staying on foil at low speeds. the 1550 would be more stable, the 1250 a little less so. I personally like the 1325 for little waves (like 2ft or lestt), because it's fast but also catches the waves better and is more efficient than the HS options. It's hard to "surf" little waves on a lot of foils. So to sum up, I think you would actually be equally happy with either the 1250 or 1550. but since the 1550 is close to the 1850, and the 1250 isn't as close to the 1125, I'd prolly go 1250 if I was in your situation. you may still find waves outrunning you, but you still have that 1125. I hope that helps a little, let me know what you end up getting!
@OCEANBOUND You made my day :) You totally right about the 1250 and the logic in my quiver. My unique doubt is about the ability of the 1250 to takeoff fast for my weight in medium wind (let's say 15 knots). In waves, my first priority in to get out of water as soon as possible, that's why i mostly use my 1850. But thinking of that, i can just use a bigger wing (my 6.5m instead 5m) to get out faster with the 1250. So lets' buy the HS1250 ! Many thanks !
Interesting to hear your thoughts. I guess there's no getting away from the fundamental physics that determines how a foil will work. A HA foil is a HA and a MA is a MA. You can blur the lines a little but I'm not sure you'll ever get a foil that's the best of all worlds. And who's best would you aim for, anyway!? Down to choosing the best tool for the job that day... Just need to learn when to use which tool! Ride on!🤙
I totally agree, nothing can do everything. Follow what makes you happy. I def ride different than some of my best wingbuds, there’s never one answer for all. I can’t wait to see which foil I’m riding more in 6 months. Thanks bud and I wish you an awesome weekend!
I like your reviews since I mostly came to same conclusions myself unlike many other "sponsored" reviews. Been using the MA1225 lately thinking the MA1000 is to much overlap over ha925. The 1225 jumps up on foil almost so easy to ride, what I like most is jumping it, the 1000 should be perfect for jumping since the 1225 is a bit big in landings. You can land jumps on foil, mindblowing and its a total game changer if your into freestyle. Also ride it with HA195 tail trying to limit gear and its fine if you ride it back to back with the HAs but now after riding the ma1225 more I feel like i need a more stable tail, I think this foil allows me to sail more casually so start to relax to much and then you get that sudden drop in pitch. Not a big deal tho, I like the glide wirh the 195 but probably order one of the new tails sooner or later. Not sure if 205 or 235 is better?
Sup bud! Glad to hear you are digging the 1225! I’m stoked to try one, much more interested in that than the 800 at this point. I’ve heard people say it’s close to the 1550 in lift, that’s hard for me to believe so I’m just patiently waiting for my turn. I personally imagine using it in the summer for flat water sinker jumping sessions at my home spot. The 1000 is also kinda big on the landings, but stays on foil pretty good. I just need to get used to that feeling, another hundred jumps should do it 😜👍 And same situation here with the tail. I’m tempted to do them both but leaning towards the 205. They arrive at my wing dealers shop today I think so I should have them in hand soon. I’ll let you know what I think! Thanks bud and I hope you are having a great week!
rock on Jem,defenetly honest review, what about breaching the tips? if you made it,what is comparison?difference? my quiver is HS1250,HS1550,Hs1850,HA1125, at 92 kilos cover me all conditions.I was thinking to buy MA,but after your review I will probbaly not.The difference is to small. Often I take my wofes quiver Nortfh sonar MA1350 and I experiment.Maybe I will buy Unifoil Hyper2 and new Progression. will see.Enjoy wind and keep us happy with your videos.Aloha from Slovenija
what up Slovenija!?! I think you have a great quiver there. you do weigh more than me, so I can't really do an exact comparison on what I ride vs what you ride. but speaking just on breaching the tips, the MAs are totally comparable to the HAs, and both being waaaay better than the HS line. I can think of 3 specific instances in the last 8-10 sessions I've had on the MA where I cranked a turn, breached more than I usually do, and was like "whoa, I can't believe I made that" so it's good. I don't want to say the MAs suck, I really do love them. for me and my weight, the HA925 is my ultimate size, for you it's prolly that 1125. so if you wanted to go for a MA, maybe that 1000 would be good for you and different enough from you 1125. or the 800. but the 925 really is my favorite in the lineup. Let me know if you end up with! And I wish you and your crew an amazing weekend!

Rickster, height and weight please?
5’ 11” around 77kg and on a 77litre Ensis Rock and Roll.
Looking good dude! Got my new fanatic 65 board and love it!!
oh man that's awesome... stoked for you!! I gotta try one of those, I'll see if my wing dealer has any in stock. i wish you an awesome weekend bud... I hope you get some wind to use your new ride!
@@OCEANBOUND1 excellent, you too, wind was perfect yesterday over at Cline spit
yeeeeew bud hope your well loved this one I thought the video quality was great i always watch yours on big tv and i looked really crisp .
Regarding the MA vs HA.
Or the stabs.
Or the masts.
Is clear and simple dinâmica.
Wonder what/when comes the big next… 😊
I def dig it but will ride it more when I'm powered up in my wing. this is the 1000, the 1225 may be nice to have for other reasons. you kinda have to work them, they want to go rail to rail and be pumped, which is fun to be more active, but you can stall too if you are thinking about other things. the new tails should be in soon, I hope it just makes me like them even more!
and btw, I wish you an awesome weekend bud!
Balance is the word.
I just need to get used to that feeling, another hundred jumps should do it 😜👍
And same situation here with the tail.
