Blessed to find this video. My mother hired a shade tree person to do her bathroom floor. He put it off till later. Thanks to you I’m gonna do it myself.
Vinyl flooring is such a great stop gap. I am going to eventually get engineered oak parquet floors from the Natural Wood Co. They will cost me about £4,000. Until then, I am going to have workmen breaking down walls, pouring cement and plastering in the entire house - vinyl will protect my floor AND look great while the rest of the project takes shape, for a fraction of the price. Really love that I can now also do it myself to save money for that oak!!
Just plan out carefully and take your time before cutting. The old standby rule... Measure twice before cutting once. Count on some unexpected snags when doing the work, just simply count on it. It's rarely as smooth and clear a job as show by pros in videos, particularly for first timers. Enjoy your new floor.
I recently laid sheet vinyl in my kitchen, and I can relate to everything you mentioned! I used a utility knife, and keeping the blade sharp was crucial for clean cuts. I made sure to vacuum thoroughly before starting; even small debris made a difference. Acclimating the vinyl for 24 hours really helped with fitting it around the sink pedestal. I faced some challenges with uneven floors, but using a leveling compound beforehand made a huge difference. I also sealed the edges with silicone sealant, which not only looks great but prevents moisture issues in case of spills. Thanks for sharing this detailed guide; it’s super helpful!
Thank you for the tips. Now I know how to go around a toilet, sink etc. Watching you cut the vinyl was very helpful. I like the caulking you used on the edges. I have seen too many floors laid without the caulking and yes, water does eventually get under the vinyl floor. :)
I have no idea how I got here. Happy I did. This dude is super cute!!! And he's pretty proficient with his tools. I'd hire him! Spray adhesive is messy and a pain in the arse to clean up. Use cardboard or scrap material to shield the wall while spraying. When using the adhesive tape alone, clean the surface with alcohol to ensure no oil or residue prevents a positive bond. When caulking for the first time, use painters tape to get a crisp clean edge. This step shouldn't be rushed as it is the finishing touch on your project. Tape the floor and wall 1/4" from the joint. As stated use a tool or wet finger to smooth out and push the caulk into the void. Try to do this along the edge in one stroke. Using a wet finger you'll have time to smooth it out completely. As you can clearly see in the video their caulking is terrible sloppy. No crisp, clean edges. It easy to see they rushed this vital and visible step. If color matching caulk isn't available, use a clear caulk for best results. When using clear caulk any jagged or slightly short cuts will be visible. As always use the proper caulk for the job. They're not all equal. Always cut away from yourself. Ensure nobody is within an arm's length and a half to ensure any slip of your cutting doesn't result in the injury of another. I've seen first hand someone slipping and slicing the hand and arm of someone working next to them. There was a lot of blood, sixty stitches, scars all totalling over 14 inches, nerve damage, and two additional surgeries to fix tendons and ligaments. In total it took Janette over 18 months to recover most of the use of her hand. All because one individual was careless. That was over fifteen years ago. Janette never fully recovered. She is still coping with the permanent damage and physical scars. Cheers from Seattle!!!

Thanks for the upload... I'm laying vinyl flooring in my kitchen... didn't know u need to leave it for 24 hours b4 gluing also using the spray glue and double sided tape together... thanks 👍
Cracking good video thanks. When your cutting around a sink/toilet, I found easier with a steel edge, such as that from a combination try square. Flat on the floor and pushed against the edge of the pedestal makes for a more accurate cutting of the slots. The try square, still pushed against the edge, makes for clean cut around the pedestal profile. I used a Stanley for cutting.
I find it easier to remove the sink and toilet. I also don't pay too much attention to the overall cut and just nail down some shoe to cover the edges.
wow thank u for this informative vid; I was going to cover up old and dirty tiles that I tried using but I guess it is better to get that all cleaned up first, its a mess and I hate carpets; vinyl flooring looks gorgeous.
At 4:12, you hold up a vinyl cutter. I have looked everywhere, including the B&Q site, and can find no such tool... What, exactly, is it called, and where can it be purchased?
Watching again since I need to lay more sheet vinyl and I'd completely forgotten some of this info. I have since acquired a toilet jack so the toilet can be moved out of the way rather than cut around. I intend to caulk around the flange where it meets the sheet vinyl to make sure no water goes underneath. Instead of knee pads (which don't seem to fit me right) I'm going to use an anti-fatigue mat that can be moved around.

Hi John, you don't have to put anything underneath the vinyl. However, when laying onto a concrete floor, you must do a test to check for any dampness. Please refer to 1:20 on the video for details 😊
Hi Angie! As flooring rolls comes in limited sizes, it would be best to have the join at the door, as you would do using different floorings. I hope this helps!
You have to get "vinyl flooring spray adhesive", make sure it's for vinyl florring. Many spray adhesives are for carpet only. I got some on Ebay for my existing flooring, but it's quite expensive. The Diall product in the video is no longer available at B&Q for some reason. Shame because it was dirt cheap.
I've just removed the old vinyl tiles in my bathroom to find a whole other layer of single sheet vinyl. Can I just put my new roll over that one? Or would it be best to remove all of it? Complete novice over here :)
Hi Roshan, you can do. Just be aware that if there's any bumps or tears in the old vinyl, this will show through the new one. In that case, it would be best to remove the old one and ensuring you have a flat clean surface to lay the new one on. I hope this helps!
Hi BQ I am going to go with vinyl flooring for my kitchen. there are two types. One is more and no "cork" backing. the other cheaper but I like the color better. What do you recommend. I want the cheaper one because of the color but I want to pay more for a better backing. What do you suggest? Does the "cork" backing make a better floor? thx.
Hi Mark, cork backed vinyl has a few advantages - Cushioning effect, thermal and acoustic insulation properties. The cushioning effect is more comfortable to walk on, although if you're planning to put a table and chairs on top, this may leave dents. The thermal effect will help maintain a comfortable temperature in colder seasons. The acoustic effect would be beneficial if you were laying it on an upper level as it reduces sound transferring between floors. As we're unsure what the "other cheaper" vinyl is backed with, we can't comment further. However, vinyl flooring itself has many advantages over other floor coverings such as, cost, easy installation, no underlay required etc. We wouldn't be able to suggest a preference on your behalf, but I hope this helps you make a decision 😊
You can take the pedestal out get some one to hold the sink while you slide it under. I did it plus i removed the skirting board its so much easier laying the floor
Hi, Zinnia. We'd recommend cutting around the toilet with a utility knife. You can see this process by skipping to 3:00 in the video. We hope this helps 😄

@@bandq No, not the sealant, the aerosol spray adhesive. It helped the double sided tape stick to the floor. Can you use just the adhesive for the flooring? I will be laying the floor over concrete. This time I am going to do things properly myself. This video was great, I had no idea about using the tape to seal it, I have a sealant gun and silicone, I was going to get some roll of paper and trace the shape out first and then use that to cut the vinyl correctly. Still, I think I will be way better at this than any carpet and flooring store was!!!
Hi Anna, as flooring rolls comes in limited sizes, it would be best to have the join at the door, as you would do using different floorings. I hope this helps!
Hi, Jaquelin. Thanks for your query! Unfortunetly no they cannot be used on top of carpet. The subfloor must be a levelled, hard surface that's clean and dust free. Hope this helps! 😊
Leave an inch or two up the walls, fold in half and glue the half with roller, fold other half back and glue Now to take the knack out of it.. just gently score the top of the sheet with the back of the knife to follow the edges tight, then you click the blade out 1 or 2 click and cut it - perfect every time
Thanks very much for the great video! You demonstrated how to test the dampness issue, but did not elaborate on how to rectify it (in a DIY manner), if there was one. Could you elaborate on that, please?

Can I lay this on very thin carpet tiles that quite frankly won't come off . I want to lay sheet vinyl in hall so got a lot to cut around is it best for spray adhesive or double side tape around edged also any tips . I'm thinking of making a template and trying to precut it
Very helpful video. I'm going to have to replace the vinyl laid down by my cowboy builder! I can only surmise he must have hand poor eyesight & measuring was not his forte ! Wish me luck 🤞
The whole point of putting the material in the area its going to be fitted in advance is acclimatisation so making sure underfloor heating is turned off 24 hours in advance makes no sense unless you're never planning on using the underfloor heating
Wishbid of done mine my self I got someone who has been doing our family carpets/floors since I was a child. And I'm not happy and he dosnt agree with me and won't sort it out. There's air bubbles in it and after watching this I don't think he did the tape thing or seal the gaps around the edges with silicone. No one anymore seems to do a job properly.
The preference would be to have it unrolled to acclimatise, however, it's not necessary. As long it's been in the room where it's being fitted for 24-48 hours prior to fitting, you shouldn't have any problems. Not allowing the sheet vinyl time to acclimatise can result in the flooring expanding or shrinking. I hope this helps!

This video was great, I had no idea about using the tape to seal it, I have a sealant gun and silicone, I was going to get some roll of paper and trace the shape out first and then use that to cut the vinyl correctly. Still, I think I will be way better at this than any carpet and flooring store was!!!
You can do it 💪😊
Which glue is the best for installation
Hi Paul, the item used in the video is no longer stocked. However, you can use bit.ly/44AqVb7 as an alternative. Hope this helps 😊
Joins in large open areas?
Hi Anna, as flooring rolls comes in limited sizes, it would be best to have the join at the door, as you would do using different floorings. I hope this helps!
Thanks mate, I layed my toilet, bathroom/shower,kitchen,foyer,laundry and the dining room, best video to follow
Is it possible to add another layer if you already have sheet vinyl? Or do you HAVE to remove the old vinyl?
Hi there, you can lay sheet vinyl on top of existing sheet vinyl. However, it's not something we would recommend doing 😊
Hi found your video very helpful just had a questions can all the materials like double tap and spray still be use on top on carpet ?
Hi, Jaquelin. Thanks for your query!
Unfortunetly no they cannot be used on top of carpet. The subfloor must be a levelled, hard surface that's clean and dust free. Hope this helps! 😊
Leave an inch or two up the walls, fold in half and glue the half with roller, fold other half back and glue
Now to take the knack out of it.. just gently score the top of the sheet with the back of the knife to follow the edges tight, then you click the blade out 1 or 2 click and cut it - perfect every time
That's a great tip! 😊
Thanks very much for the great video! You demonstrated how to test the dampness issue, but did not elaborate on how to rectify it (in a DIY manner), if there was one. Could you elaborate on that, please?
@@bandq Thanks, Shaz!
how do you recommend cleaning vinyl floors?
Hi, you can use plain water and a damp mop or a multi purpose floor cleaner. Always check the manufacturers instructions. I hope this helps 🙂
Can this be laid over old mastic adhesive?
Hi there! Vinyl like this needs to be laid on a dry, level and smooth service or else it will show any imperfections that are underneath.
Great vid. My issue is my linoleum has not been stored well. Now that I'm prefitting it there are many lumps. How do I go about getting it flattened out when I glue it down? Any help is appreciated..
Please can someone give me a product how to clean vinyl flooring because I’ve got this in my kitchen the black and white square designs ones and it’s absolutely dirty I’ve tried lots of product to try to clean it and make the white squares clean but it’s getting brown and dirty please can someone give me a product that I can buy to clean it
Excellent tutorial .... respect from India
Great tips! Personally, i would temporarily remove the toilet and sink to put the vinyl under them to make a better water seal.
Great advice! 😊
Can you install vinyl sheet flooring over top a floor that already has vinyl sheet flooring?
Fantastic job done
Thank you 🥰
Not sure why it cut to the kitchen scene for damp before tiling or dose it have a link to laying lino?
You said cushion and non cushion. I can't find anything out there referencing the two types or finding it for sell under those descriptions. Explain please?
Hi there, you will find our range of sheet vinyl here bit.ly/3a7LzVO. Thicker vinyl will be cushioned and is noted in the product description. You can filter your search of thickness using the filter bar at the left hand side of our website 😊
Are you using any particular adhesive tape?
Hi there. You can use whatever adhesive tape you prefer. 😊
Great video, Just what I needed to do my bathroom. Thanks for sharing.
That is total non sense to use it in the bathroom
@@Noname-ni8qm Why?
Can you just use the old vinyl and use this as a template and cut round it?
Obviously, just make sure it's right way round.
I want to do a living room, a small kitchen and the corridors in the same style vinyl, if I bring in the measurements/floor plan into the shop will it be cut to measure?
Pepita Underthesun if there is a pattern be sure to allow for pattern match in doorways ie if plank effect so they line up nicely
Very helpful but didn't say how you fill gaps in wood planks underneath vinyl.
Can’t wait to get mines , I wonder if we could quick shine/ polish these ?
bandq Thanks so much ❤️
Can I lay this on very thin carpet tiles that quite frankly won't come off . I want to lay sheet vinyl in hall so got a lot to cut around is it best for spray adhesive or double side tape around edged also any tips . I'm thinking of making a template and trying to precut it
Hi there, we would recommend laying sheet vinyl on top of an existing floor covering.

Does anyone have a suggestion for how to apply a shine to this type of vinyl? My apartment flooring is so dull..
Hi, I would suggest checking the care instructions for the vinyl you have, for the best results 😊
Very helpful video. I'm going to have to replace the vinyl laid down by my cowboy builder! I can only surmise he must have hand poor eyesight & measuring was not his forte ! Wish me luck 🤞
yup I had the same prob done by a carpet and flooring store!! This time I feel confident to do a proper job myself, wish me luck too!!
@V Good Luck ☘️
can I use this on SHOWER ROOM ?
The whole point of putting the material in the area its going to be fitted in advance is acclimatisation so making sure underfloor heating is turned off 24 hours in advance makes no sense unless you're never planning on using the underfloor heating
Wishbid of done mine my self I got someone who has been doing our family carpets/floors since I was a child. And I'm not happy and he dosnt agree with me and won't sort it out.
There's air bubbles in it and after watching this I don't think he did the tape thing or seal the gaps around the edges with silicone.
No one anymore seems to do a job properly.
Sorry to hear this, Diana! Hope you manage to get it sorted 🙏
좋은 정보 감사합니다
You're welcome 😊
When you get your rolls of vinyl do the roads have to be laid out and flatten for 24 hours before you can do it
The preference would be to have it unrolled to acclimatise, however, it's not necessary. As long it's been in the room where it's being fitted for 24-48 hours prior to fitting, you shouldn't have any problems. Not allowing the sheet vinyl time to acclimatise can result in the flooring expanding or shrinking. I hope this helps!
what is the spray you used under the tape, i can not find it in any shop, could you please give the name/
Is there anything wrong with taking the floor screws out, lifting the toilet pan and sink pedestal, then sliding the vinyl underneath?

Thanks. I've learned to plumb with 40mm solvent pipe, tile and lay vinyl all in one go.
Not quite excellent but I'm satisfied with the end result. A ceiling artex repair job is next on the list.
Thanks for the video series.
Do I need to remove the old vinyl sheet flooring before I install the new vinyl sheet flooring? Thanks
We would always recommend laying sheet vinyl directly onto the subfloor 😊
what s the best product to clean this thing. fast and effective.
