    Excellent video.
    Tip for beginners, use double sided masking tape to help hold the straight edge in place.
    Also, don't move the straight edge if you don't have to, like he did on the first cut.

    Nice video. But why would you put glue over the tape, and not just pull the protective layer off the tape and press the vinyl onto it?

  • @LisaCunninghamLieveEnterprises

    Great Video! Your delivery is easy to understand along with your step-by-step instructions and video. Appreciate this a lot and will be following your installation steps as I install my rolled vinyl for a bathroom!
    Its funny when you go into the big box stores to purchase rolled linoleum, you ask them if you're going to need glue and they tell you yes, glue down any of your vinyl flooring. They do not share the fact that different manufacturers use different methods for their floor.

    Hi Excellent tutorial video. We just had a vinyl sheet laid in our laundry room after it was damaged by water leak. The guy who laid it did not do the preparations like you did. Did not remove the old glue no sanding so the floor is rugged. even though I mentioned about the floor. No underlay was installed even it's in the contract. I saw him just applied glue and laid the carpet. No ruler either. in 20 minutes he was done. Put back the Washer/Dryer right away. Just few minutes after he left humps and depressions were all over.
    We complained and 2 days later he wanted to rip the whole vinyl and move out the W/D. I told him no. Even the project manager agreed with him. We told the project manager that it could be seamed and we don't mind what's under the machines. He will send another guy who works on vinyl tile. I saw your video and maybe I will show this to the Project manager. Hope this will solve the problem.

    To roll the vinyl, I always cut the cardboard core (that it comes rolled up on) down to smaller length and just use my body weight to roll it out with that.

    • @thisisfutile
      @thisisfutile 11 місяців тому +1

      @bellinghamfpvI have a feeling you're joking, but for those that don't get the joke, I'm no physicist, but the rolling pin might not be enough leverage. With the cardboard core, they're probably 8 inches in diameter, so with my 240-pound frame, leaning on it will add considerably more pressure than if I used a rolling pin. The core also allows for longer, wider strokes of pressure. It will be hard to keep enough pressure on the rolling pin to get every inch of the floor. All physics aside, it's better than nothing. Although, you might be better off just taking small steps and walking all over the floor, allowing your entire body weight to do the work. HTH

    • @thisisfutile
      @thisisfutile 11 місяців тому

      @bellinghamfpv Come to think of it, we have a slightly bigger bathroom (4x7 maybe) and years ago when I put vinyl down, I didn't do anything, not even trowel. To this day you can see the bead of adhesive I put down, through the flooring. You can even feel it on your bare feet. I wish I had used a rolling pin. Anything would have helped, lol.

      Primer / sealer can work good, but it doesn't necessarily need to be sealed, just extremely clean for the adhesive to bond good.

      You can do a staggered cut with the wood plank design, but that will require some very intricate cuts. Flooring with designs like that are usually seamed in the other direction.

      Not really, about the only thing you can do, is use rugs/floor runners.
      But if this is something you're looking to do just temporarily, there is self sticking clear sheeting that comes in rolls or paper sheeting that comes in rolls, that you can protect the floor for short periods of time.

      @@D.I.Y._All-in-One concrete is newer so it's in good shape. The reason I ask is I was recently renting a house before purchasing the one I'm finishing and they had used vinyl sheeting for the laundry room and I really liked it cause it was tough but somewhat soft. I asked the landlord and he said he installed a vinyl sheeting that already had a padding on it but the stuff I want to buy doesn't have a underlayment and is only 2mm but I would like a similar feel. Is it just something I am best getting over or is there a way to approach it?

    • @D.I.Y._All-in-One
      @D.I.Y._All-in-One  3 роки тому +1

Unfortunately they were kind of vague, but I'm guessing that means anything heavy (bed, cabinets, fridge) or screwed down, like a toilet.
